Beautiful theater lots of great memories! My mother (Doris McKeever )worked there in the late 1930s for .10 cents an hour .
A fun night despite COVID-19
The ambiance in this place always gets me. It never gets old. Great venue. Parking is easy, entry was quick, and the concert felt close and personal. A great crowd.
I went to the Grease sing a long. It was do much fun! The theatre is beautiful! You can buy alcoholic beverages there and sit in the balcony. I would definitely recommend going to a show here!
I was almost surprised when I walked into this venue for the first time and I actually had to look around at all of the detail that surrounds it! Great theatre, but the amenities could be better, at our show time we were standing in line for an hour, and we did not expect this the first time, but overall; beautiful venue with a great booking promoter! As long as we have people to see we’ll definitely be back
Perfect venue to enjoy our favorite bands. Every seat in the theater provides an excellent view & brilliant sound. There is a full bar on all 3 floors. Our most recent concert was the The Dead South! WOW!! They blew us away One of our first concerts was Alison Krause & Union Station with Hot Rize!! It must have been 1988. As we arrived at the theater an old van pulled up in front of the theater. The band members jumped out & snapped photos of the marquee with their band name in lights. Alison was just 17 years old. It is our favorite memory from the many great bands weve seen at the State Theater over the years.
Beautiful old theatre. Sat in balcony. Had good sight line to stage. However seating space is very tight. Very limited space for legs and arms. Steps are not all the same size and height and makes for a challenge to climb in low light. There is no handrail in the section where seats are located. That is to be expected for a building that is 92 years old. Exciting the theatre from either the mezzanine or balcony seats takes a while as there is only one staircase. Just need to have patience.
Great venue, especially for comedy. Not a bad seat in the place. Easy to get a drink. Highly recommend.
Great place. They have done a great job keeping it looking good. Dont change a thing.
Beautiful old theater. If you havent been you should check it out. Attended a concert there and the sound was great. Bathrooms are very nice and clean.
Awesome decor! Truly a unique theater. Seats are on the small side, so dont wear too big of a coat!
Well the web site says one can buy tickets at the box office. What they dont tell you is if its for something like VIP seating thats not possible. Of course through Ticketmaster there is a massive convenience fee buy tickets at the box office that I was hoping to avoid. So I got to drive an hour one way to walk up to the box office and have the nice lady there tell me oh were sorry thats online only, oops!! Thank you State Theater. Of course the very nice lady boss offered her very profuse apologies but that doesnt really help her fix anything does it so be very careful when dealing with this institution what they say in their website and what actually happens are sometimes two entirely different things.
I have never been to this place. So cant write a review. Im sure it a okay place but again hard to say never been there.I can say this much Google maps who sent this request to review is not working well. I am about 200 miles away in another state.Sure hope this place is not paying Google for this review service. If they are I believe you would be in title for a refund.Three stars for you, Google review service get a -2 stars.Google please stop sending me these requests.
If you ever get the chance to see a show in this venue, its fantastic. Great acoustics and aesthetic. It reminds me of a mini Fox Theater.
One of my favorite theatres. A tad biased. Im from Kalamazoo. So many good artists play here.
Great view from just about any seat. Saw Goo Goo Dolls in concert. Beautiful and historic place. They serve wine and cocktails, with several macro brews and local beer.
Scotty McCrerry concert was excellent. And the Theatre was very comfortable and accessible.
Fun awesome venue. I saw a stand up comic here, it was amazing. They were funny, the venue was better. Very classic design, everything you would want from an old eclectic theater.
This theatre has age and character that makes a great atmosphere. I would recommend going here to see a show any time.
What a Wonderful theater with a great location around a city filled with great dining options along with plenty of hotels for people to stay at. Yet consistent failures on booking of quality music, whomever books the concerts for this venue please go out and find a new job and if this an ownership decision to under utilize this venue please sell it to someone that will book national acts on a daily basis or at least 3 shows a week. Oh once and awhile you do what I am asking you to do but certainly not enough and tribute bands come on there are enough original artists out there. If you need an example of what I am talking about please refer to the schedule for the riverside theater in Milwaukee This treasure to the kalamazoo community is so under utilized for music with the amount of colleges in the local area. Why are there not concerts and utilization of this venue every single night the community would come. Please find a booking agent or owner that will go out and pursue national acts and pitch the kalamazoo community as one that loves music. Signed Pretty Discouraged
Cool old theater, worth seeing a show here. Would get 5 stars but there on line ticket sales are not ran well
We went to the State Theatre last night to help celebrate its 90th birthday! Courtesy of Yelp, we got a backstage tour and learned much about the great safety and fire precautions, as well as the art, and the history of the theatre. It is one of only 15 Eberson atmospheric theatres left in the world! Weve seen a few concerts here - its so much fun. Dont dress warmly - theres no AC, and the theatre can get a bit hot. During intermission, walk around and look at all the artistic details - love!
Amazing time praising the Lord in downtown Kzoo! Go Radiant!
Beautiful venue but so expensive to host things here. Too bad it wasnt cheaper or there would probably be alot more shows.
Had a blast at the rocky horry picture show shadowing. It was hilarious actors were brilliant! Was my 1st time so i didnt know what to expect but i would love to go again
Ben Folds Rocked the house!! I had tickets in the nose bleed section and acoustics were perfect! I would rather be entertained singing and just a Piano than Dilton John
My dad was there in 1926 when they built this beautiful place with no power tools
This is one of the most beautiful theaters in the country. The sound is always on point and the staff are always helpful.
Great Black Violin show. Great music, good sound system, coud hear all the lyrics, and a whiskey. Life in Kalamazoo is indeed good on this Tuesday night.
Great venue. Not too big, but large enough for a good crowd. Well laid out.
Not a bad seat. Enjoy watching Warren Miller every year
The State theater is always a great time and fabulous venue for music. And we always meet the most interesting people.
Absolutely a beautiful, classic venue. Not a bad seat in the house!
A great venue with character. The interior is ornately decorated in a Spanish motif, with sculptures, sconces, faux windows, and sconces. The rising main floor and balcony provide great views from anywhere.Be aware that preshow you will be waiting outside and lines usually form for popular shows. If the forecast says rain, bring an umbrella. If you want to show up early, they are located next door to a local brew pub with great brews and food. (Tibbs)
I really like the aesthetic of the theater, it looks really classy. The show I attended was amazing so I have a better experience with the theater. My only complaints the seats on the balcony I was in was pretty tightly packed, not a lot of leg room at all.
What a great old classic theater. Great stage, acoustics...ambiance is awesome
Historic music venue in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo. Beautiful, ornate carvings and painting throughout.Smaller size of the theater makes it an intimate venue to see a show.
Gorgeous venue! The acoustics were unbelievable and we had the BEST time watching Blackberry Smoke and Ida Mae. The staff were so friendly and courteous. Will be back without doubt
Cool place to see a show, small venue to be close to the performers
Omgoodness...Black Violins was the best concert ever I am so glad we went to see them...I just love these guys and I hope they come back if they do I will be back too
Great show! Even though it was 90 degrees in there. Be back again.
What a beautiful venue. We will go back again.
Love the state theater. It was seating arrangements and we were still able to move to the music. Beautiful interior structure with great locations for vendors
Good show. Awful, slow security processing line. Rich people can pay $15 to skip to the front.
Ya know when we got there I was like old about this. But man what a place to have a concert Gary Allen helps too. Had a great time would go to watch another Concert again.
Such a beautiful venue and an intimate place to see bands.
Excellent venue for a concert. I dont think there is a bad seat anywhere. Definitely on my list to return to.
Wow! What a great venue. First time there, but very impressed with staff. Easy in - easy out. Will look to go back.
Seats and isles are kinda small.. So if you have long legs, its hard to get comfortable.. Had red marks on my knees from the seat in front of me
Absolutely beautiful love this place
Great venue and reasonable drink and snack prices.
Beautiful venue. It creates an intimate setting for various types of performances. Love it!
Always love the entertainment we get there.
Beautiful theatre, a relic of a another time!
Beautiful, historic venue. Well be back for sure.
Easy in and out, always good seats.
Great venue! Wish they had more shows!
Ive been here for a few different things and I always had a good time. they always seem to have something interesting going on here. When I was there it was clean comfortable and the staff was good. I was pleased with my experience and I would go there again to see something else. The Bob Marley Birthday Bash is always fun.
The heartbeat of downtown Kalamazoo. There is a twinkling night sky of little lit up stars on the ceiling. Easy to get to, easy to park, easy to grab eats before and after, easy breezy. Fyi, only teeny tiny pocketbooks and purses are allowed inside.
Beautiful and historic (some say haunted).Possibly my favorite venue. Acoustic are fabtastic. No food unless local catering is invited for certain shows. Bar staff is super friendly and helpful. Although if you prefer micro/craft beer just go next door to Tibbs Brewery before your show.
Great shows are always available in this Kalamazoo classic theatre!
Had Prom held here. Super fun! Only down side was that there was not a ton of room for dancing but the theater was amazing all the same
Great place to see a concert -
Built in 1927 as a vaudeville theatre, the State has hosted some of the best acts in the world. It is a beautiful venue designed to look like Spanish Courtyard, complete with twinkling stars and clouds that dance across the ceiling. 10/10, I love this place!
This place was awesome! I loved all the detail work! It was beautiful! The stars in the ceiling were so cool! My 6 year old son could not get enough he wanted to explore Everything! Would definitely go here again!
Cool building / theater. I would give it 5 stars but the seats are tiny. They really cram everyone in.
First visit ever, the husband and I won tickets from B93.7 to see Gary Allen and it was awesome! Thanks for a great time!
Great venue, balcony gets a little warm, but worth it!
The venue was really nice, it was really hot in there though. Other than that it was an amazing experience
Love this place. They always seem to have great concerts and the historical building is just a plus.
Great show will definitely be back
While I look forward to attending a concert at this theater, I recieved a letter from them telling me that the parking reservation that I had purchased back in January was invalid now because they had overbooked, and that I would be turned down if I tried to use the parking ticket they sent to me for my payment. They delayed 4 months to inform me of this. They did return my payment, but overbooking such and consequently canceling, forcing me to have to search again for this service is a travesty and terrible business ethics. Why sell more tickets than you have spaces? Doesnt this just require the skill of counting?! Bad form from Kalamazoo State Theatre, and terrible business practice.
Beautiful building. They always have great shows there. But just the chance to see all the wonderful details of this building is worth the visit!
Really cool old theater. You cant get the vintage vibe from any new theater. I love the decor.
Great show! Incredibly funny individual! They could probably use three bartenders per station you know just get people through!
Its a great venue with a friendly staff, but wow was it hot inside. Everyone was sweating, especially the performers.
Kzoo State Theatre is one of my favorite venues in the state of Michigan. Beautiful space. Plenty of seating. Drink prices could be better but not unusually high.
Super fun for concerts! Nice staff! Serves alcohol!
Beautiful venue! Going to see Black Violin tonight!!!
Awesome venue, saw BlackBerry Smoke in concert here. Up close and personnel atmosphere, best way to enjoy the concert.
This place is just great. The staff is friendly, the theater is spectacular, and the drinks were reasonably priced. A local gem in the middle of a booming city.
Great affordable entertainment!
One of Michigans jewels. You have to see the interior at least once. Breathtaking.
