Beautiful glacier. Took a helicopter ride to a few areas as well.
Theres a lot of Juneau capital city pride in every once of glacier.
Nice
What an amazing sight to see and experience first hand. If youre ever in Juneau this is a must see for you. You can imagine the power of the glacier as you see how the rocks are polished and ground down by the forces of the glacier. The Park is a great place to visit, the Visitor Center is top shelf, with interesting displays of the local animals and facts about the glacier. It was interesting to see that glaciers are not pure white, but covered with dirt, debris and boulders picked up as the move up and down the valley. Be sure to allow for enough time to enjoy the trails and sights of the glacier and Nugget Falls. We had a great time while we were there and you will too. Enjoy.
Because
There really are no words for how breathtaking the view is. The hiking trails are well maintained and the Park Rangers provided excellent info on the history and science of the area.
Amazing view of the Glacier and a beautiful waterfall nearby. We rented a car at the Juneau airport and drove to the park. Many people take tour buses. There are even taxis that can take you there from downtown. There is a small fee to get into the park. A short walk from the visitor center takes you very close to the glacier and waterfall. A must see when in Juneau, Alaska.
A beautiful glacier to visit with a beautiful lake below it. Take the hike and avoid the crowds. Most stay on the south lake viewing area which can be annoying. But all in all a very easily accessible natural wonder that has to be seen. Juneau in between monster cruise ship arrivals is very cool. Take the lateral tram up to the mountain top for spectacular views!!!!!!
My first time at a glacier and I was just in awe - Absolutely beautiful views. Cant wait to go back. The only downside was that the restrooms were closed for some reason and it is a public park after all.
One of the must stops in the Juneau area. You could spend a day here walking the trails and taking in the beauty
Absolutely amazing to see.
We moved to Juneau this summer. I love the Mendenhall Glacier Center. We walked to Nugget Falls yesterday. We plan to return for many more hikes!
We took a smaller cruise ship from our larger titan cruise. The mendenhall glaciers are a must see before it disappears. The smaller boat went almost 150 ft away to the actual glacier and was a complete wonder to behold.
This is a great place to visit while in Juneau. There is a nice visitors center (very busy) and several trails close by that will give a differing views of the glacier, gold rush falls, and plentiful wildlife. Be prepared for crowds if you stick close to the visitors center and the main viewing area. If you are willing to go for an easy hike, it does not take long to leave the crowds and encounter nature where it thrives.
This is a must see location! It was breath taking and beautiful. We did t have a lot of time there but it was stunning. Give yourself time to do the hike and if you can do the helicopter ride. I will be back to do it someday.
This was one of the many beautiful places we saw on our trip to Alaska. We stopped at the visitor center then took a short walk to see the glacier from afar. We then decided to walk the longer path to see it up close! I am so glad we took the time to do that. The walk is easy and serene - about 20 to 25 minutes. It was raining the whole time, but worth the walk. It was a breathtaking view!
This place is magical. I used to come out on the city bus and spend the day here when I lived in Juneau. I liked to take the short hike to the waterfall and explore all over. The ice caves are amazing too, but only go if you are experienced or have a guide, and never alone. You can even watch the bears fishing when the salmon are spawning right in the main park.
Beauty abounds. Waterfall is amazing the glacier is great also!
Amazing place. Beautiful all year round. Myriad hiking trails, great views, lots of pollinators and wildflowers.
When I was on a cruise, our ship stopped in Juneau and my family and I went on a tour to Mendenhall Glacier. It was stunning. Absolutely breathtaking. There were great trails, activities, and photo ops. That was one of the best trips I have ever taken. I highly recommend visiting at least one of Alaska’s very fine glaciers. This was an experience I will never forget. Nugget falls was cool, too.
There are better glaciers in Alaska. Another check on the long list of traps for the cruise ships
Contact with Nature away from everything
Views to die for. Loved visiting this beautiful place!
Nice glacier. Go there in the evening, when its less crowded.
Beautiful place. Glaciers are similar yet all of them have a few distinctive characteristics.
Not often that you drive up a road and then yo see a glacier coming p at a distance. Billed as the most accessible Glacier - it lives up to that reputation. The hike from the free parking lot is flat and barely 20 mins. Nugget falls is at the end of the hike. Other trails are longer for those more adventurous. At the parking lot, theres also a viewing trail for Salmon and bears. Its sad to see this glacier recede and hopefully its still here for years to come.
We took the hike to the visitors center traversing a beautiful forest.
When visiting Juneau this glacier is a short distance outside of town. As well as the view of the Glacier there is a visitor centre which has a selection of exhibits and a short video. Be sure to walk down to the waterfall. There are a selection of other walks as well. Rangers make sure you don’t take any food outside as it encourages the black bears to come out.
Beautiful - you can hike out close to the bottom of the glacier where it meets the lake. Saw a bear close up in the stream near the entrance. Wish we could have stayed longer
Amazing hike to and on Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau, AK. Thank you Matt our guide with Above and Beyond Alaska.
We enjoyed our time at Mendenhall glacier. Definitely no need to take a tour. Go by yourself! Don’t pay the extra fees with a taxi or tour! We simply got a Lyft ride For about $28 from the Juneau Library. No extra fees. We spent about 3 to 4 hours there. The Nugget falls trail was very easy and did not take long at all. The waterfall at the end was beautiful the trail was not overly crowded in the afternoon. Afterwards we did a the East Glacier loop trail / Trail of time that started behind the visitor center. It was in the forest and went to a small waterfall called AJ Falls. It was a beautiful sunny day in August we enjoyed our time here. We saw a bear feeding on some salmon. The visitor center is nice to visit. Don’t forget to get your stamp in your journal if you’d like to collect those from different National Forests and National Parks!
This was a once in a lifetime memory. It was an amazing experience for my wife and I. Although we did not take an actual excursion, it was not needed to have an amazing experience. We have been talking about this trip since we took it back in 2016, Well be back! There was also plenty of wildlife and Bald Eagles!
The majesty & magnitude of glaciers cannot be understood until you are in the presence of one. I can only imagine how much truer this is when you can walk on one. Ive been to Mendenhall Glacier a couple of times now & Im exhilarated each time.
3rd day of Alaska Tour; Mendenhall Glacier was spectacular.
We loved this place so much!!! We went on a Mendenhall glacier tour including canoeing and hiking to the glacier. We saw some iceberg floating on the lake. It was breath taking moment to see the beauty of glacier
A must!!! If you have the opportunity to walk on the glacier, you won’t regret it!!!! Astounding experience!
Stopped here during a recent cruise. Highly recommend doing the walk to Nugget Falls to get a closer view of the glacier.
This is a must see! The Visitor Center gives one background information before embarking on the 2 mile trek to Nugget Falls where one can see the Mendenhall Glacier close up.What a magnificent state!!!
Breath taking! One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
Beautiful place, great for a walk to the falls. A must see in Juneau
A truly memorable experience!
It was what it was a walk around a lake to a glazier. I’m guessing it’s not for every one but if your on holidays touring it’s a must see. It was a long walk around. The ice floating in the lake was a amazing site, the colour of the water was a cross between melted ice and water . This gives it the colour
Beautiful park with some wonderful hiking trails. Nugget Falls is a must see as well as the glacier. If you take the hiking path behind the visitors center, you’ll also get one of the best views of the glacier without the crowds of people. We visited in the rain and it was worth getting soaking wet!
An amazing view and a place everybody should visit to experience the beauty of mother nature!
Thid Glacier is amazing, and you can get to it by car to the viewing area. The glacier has a visitors center that is well staffed and will answer ány questions you may have about the glacier, animals, vegetation and waterfalls in the area. Be prepared to walk but the paths are easy to do. No food or drink is allowed in the area because of the black bears. Definitely a place to visit while at Juneau Alaska.
I used to live in Juneau Alaska fromFrom 1989 till 1990 I really love it thereI am hoping to go back there sometime. It is such a beautiful place to visit and to live there. When my family left there I was sadMy family moved to Guam for 2 yrs.All I can say Guam was a experienceThat I will never forget
This place is unreal. The massive Mendenhall Glacier plus the emensity of nugget falls really takes your breathe away. Definitely one of the most wonderful experiences of my life.
An amazing experience! We had the opportunity to walk on the glacier, and it is not something we will forget.
We went on the tour where you get to canoe to the glacier and then go into the caves and hike all over the glacier. It was the most breathtaking site Ive seen. I would recommend it to anyone and I plan to go back again. It was my favorite excursion Ive ever been on my whole life, and Ive traveled a lot. The guides were awesome and it was safe and fun. Everyone needs to experience it, you wont regret it.
The visitors center is full of knowledgable park rangers. There are also very nice hikes all around the glacier viewing area, depending on your skill level and time frame!
Just an overall amazing experience. Seen from ship. Awesome doesnt describe.
We went on a 7 day Alaska cruise and didn’t get a shorex at Juneau instead we took a public bus and walked a mile and a half each way to Mendenhall glacier. Along the way we saw several hiking trails and also the Nugget falls beside the glacier. Always bring an umbrella or a raincoat with you coz you’ll never know when the rain pours. We were lucky it was nice on the way but it rained coming back from the glacier.
One of the most beautiful places in the world!
It whfbznbreathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very pretty bring a jacket on account that your walking up to ice
Absolutely beautiful hiking opportunities! Works suggest going early to beat the crowd.
If you’re in Alaska, don’t miss this place. Very calm and relaxing environment. Amazing view and friendly place to go and spend the day with the family.
The majesty & magnitude of glaciers cannot be understood until you are in the presence of one. I can only imagine how much truer this is when you can actually walk on one. Ive been to Mendenhall Glacier a couple times now & Im exhilarated each time.
Very cool place! Lots of wildlife
Once in a lifetime experience worth doing!
The glacier and trails were fantastic. Definitely a must see. However, the visitor center was lacking - only two restrooms, no food or beverages, too little space to sit down. Gift shop is small and cramped. Not accomodating for the number of tourists. Sub par especially for a U.S. visitor center.
An amazing view and experience! Definitely worth checking out!
Impressive Glacier and one of the closest to town, about 13 milles and located on the Mendenhall Valley, can be closely visited by bus being dropped off at the visitor center in which naturalist will give you a more detail explanation about its magnitude and interesting information. There are guided tours around it and on the top, depending how you want to get there and how much you want to expend, the experience you will have will be unforgettable. From hikings around the trails until dog sledding, and trekkings, there are different ways to enjoy this amazing place that nature share with us to contemplate. Just enjoy and respect!
Beautiful view. Would be nice if there was more to do but hey...its a glacier.
I was there about 8 years ago, I just loved by it. If I was a fan of the cold, I would live in AlaskaMendenhall Glacier took my breath away.
Exceeding expectations!!!! Dog sled experience. It is worth every penny.
AWESOME ..ITS GODS WORK!!
Very good, pictures do not do it justice
Almost heaven, Mendenhall Glacierblue ice calving, icebergs in the water.Ice is old there, older than the treesYounger than the mountains, and the ice is always freeze.Glacier Spur Road, take me homeTo the place I belongMendenhall Glacier, glacier mama.Take me home, Glacier Spur Road.
Why would I ever want to live anywhere else!
Beautiful! If you dont mind a walk, use public transportation. Its $2 and has a stop about s mile from the actual park.
We were close to the road going towards the Mendenhall Glacier - not even inside the area and ranger Cat approached me along with another fellow ranger (another female whom I didnt get her name) and told us we couldnt be there because we were harassing the bears. We were taking pictures of fish... she then proceeded to harass my husband saying we were blocking the way for the bears who were trying to cross. Mind you there were NO BEARS in sight. Ranger CAT proceeded to tell us she was taking a picture of my husband because he was doing something against the law. There are NO LAWS stating you cant photograph fish, is there? That place is becoming a joke... more like a zoo, if you ask me. And all of the rangers will tell the crowd to stay quiet when the Bears are present but they proceed to get on their loud speaker and tell everyone how to behave.
Hiking in the vicinity shows you a true upper latitude rainforest
We took a canoe tour to the ice caves. The caves were beautiful and really worth going to see. Getting to spend a little time on top of the glacier as well was just icing on the cake.
We drove there and only looked around the information centre. It was still impressive from there and scenic. Theres also a large waterfall close by that you can walk to.
Worth the walk to waterfall and Glacier but take rain gear. Only 1 mi. But off and on rsin
It is hilarious to see the tourists asking stupid questions like, How high above the sea level are we? when they are in a boat, and Where are the igloos? The glacier itself is a bore when youve only been there 500 million times, at least 5 times every school year. I see it every day driving down the road and the tourists are runing our town. The only good thing about them is their stupid questions
A must see if you go to Juneau. Its one of the almost 40 glaciers in Juneau and its so beautiful.
Easy drive from port to glacier. Breathtaki g to see it even from across the lake. Walking trail to nearby Nugget Falls. Visitir center has great exhibits.
While we were in Juneau, the second port of call in Alaska, we took the tour bus to see the Mendenhall Glacier. It is simply breath-taking that picture does not do justice.
Such a beautiful place to visit. A must see when youre in Juneau!
Really cool experience
Spectacular. Once in a lifetime experience.
Amazing experience
Visited this Glacier as part of a Cruise that we went on. It was amazing to see!
Majestic!
One of the most beautiful places to go
Breathtaking.
I wish our tour have is more than an hour to spend here. The hike to the waterfall was itself estimated to be a 45 minute round trip hike.
Great place for famiky
I believe below this glacier there are tree stumps which was a Forrest before the ice age hit which would prove we are still coming out of the ice age.
Absolutely amazing and breathtaking
So sad that it is melting! Hurry and plan a trip there while you can.
Beautiful the tour was amazing
Go out early in the morning
