Ive seen the area from my kayak and paddle board (see videos) but not from land (there were no tours on this part of the island yet). I can say that it looks like a forlorn, sad and deserted place from the water, though the buildings somehow give it all a sense of strength and order. I suspect it looks less so when you see a tour group passing by and through but that was not the case the several times I paddled nearby.
The hard-hat tour of the Ellis Island morgue and surrounding buildings is well worth it. It’s all very well preserved and the tour doesn’t hold back - it takes you into almost every decaying building there, including the really dark and creepy places like the operating theater, basements, the morgue, the insane asylum, etc. Very authentic and interesting tour.
Amazing tour. We all enjoyed the hard hat tour so much. The guide was very good. A lost place with a lot of history. If you are interested in this subject - go there.
Very nice. You can learn the American immigration history
Interesting history and a scenic place for lovers of abandoned or lost places
The Hard Hat Tour contributes towards funds to restore the hospital. Its a fabulous exposure to the unrestored part of Ellis Island. I enjoyed the the raw aspect of the hospital, before it becomes a renovated sightseeing site. The quality of the tour may differ on the volunteer tour guide. Our guide was informative and calm, but I wouldve appreciated energy. Cant deduct stars, though, for I enjoyed tour so much. Great photo opportunities. The tickets do not sell out as quickly as the Statue of Liberty tickets, but plan ahead and reserve ASAP. I went on the later morning session- gave me a chance to drop by Liberty island afterwards. Will be back for sure!
This is so awesome place . I got lots of information which is related to history of the USA . I enjoyed video clip & may more ..
Really enjoyed the tour of the immigrant hospital. Very interesting to see this part of American history.
Amazing tour with such a rich story. Our guide has been by far the most eloquent speaker with very vivid storytelling that sparks the imagination! ((ASK FOR Ryan R.))
Abandonned but beautiful. If you like ruins, history and places that are a bit creepy its for you! I did the hard hat tour and our guide was super informative.that would be cool a special edition of this in the evening or at night around halloween,Im sure there would be a public for it ^^ !
I’ve have never been there but I was WONDERING COULD THIS ISLAND BEEN USEFUL FOR THE VIRUS THATS GOING ON NOW??? Am sure nyc can use the space till they figure out what to do NEXT?????
This is the best museum ever. With a lot of history. Ideal for holidays
Tour was cool except for me getting smacked in the back of the head. Mind you I was at the end of the tour line so no one was behind me. Still cant explain it.
Hard hat tour of the closed off hospital complex very interesting tour guide Rob very informative.. Recommended
Incredible tour. Loved it. Highly recommend.
I joined the hard hat tour. It was amazing as I like ruins amd abandoned place very much. My guide Tom was very nice and explained history clearly behind.
I love it
I live old place s like that so much history
Good support
The hard hat tour is great, walking through the arrested decay of the Ellis island hospitals. What a great idea to preserve it in this state, rather than restore it to its original condition. Loved the tour and the grounds. A hidden gem of the statue tour, much more rewarding than taking pictures from the crown...
Take the Hardhat Tour for a fact filled experience. The majority of those who passed through this historic place when it was active, helped build and strengthen the USA. If your a US history buff, youll enjoy the tour a great deal. Put yourself in the shoes of an early immigrant while you tour the grounds and buildings, and youll come away with an improved perspective of the early immigrant experience.
Hard hat tour was good althoughOur guide was kinda stuffy - very stuffy. The whole place is full of cobwebs and needs vacuum and deep pressure cleaning. I felt like afterwards I needed an asthma treatment/ thank god they got rid of the asbestos. I would like to see it converted into a museum eventually though !
The hard hat tour is amazing. Lots of artifacts and interesting history. Highly recommend.
Hard hat tour is so worth a visit if going on Ellis Island.
The expo is very interesting. I recommend taking the audio guide they provide.
Unique tour that takes you to the other side of the island that is being restored and you can only access via this tour. Our tour guide Brett was knowledgeable and we saw and learned a lot in our 90 minutes.

Chock-full of history. Worth taking a private tour. Creepy, but worth it.Since its abandoned and unkept, you have to wear hard hats! ;)
A very creepy tour of a mostly ruined hospital but well worth it for the moody insight into history it gives you.
Excellent tour around this abandoned hospital. Lots of amazing creepy pictures!
