Great place to go hiking. Wide, well kept trails. Bring water and a hat as theres not a lot of shade but a good breeze.

I love that Jax has so many nature parks. The good thing about these trails is you can bring horses. Its not close to water so the mosquitoes arent bad. And very rarely do I see anyone else when we come. The downside there isnt much shade so I would only go in the Fall or Winter. The scenery is pretty but not much to look at as its more tall grasses. If you love nature and want to escape the city for a few hours its a nice option.

One of my Top 5 favorite places to hike in Jacksonville, Pumpkin Hill Creek has a little bit of everything for the hiker. Wide open trails, check. Skinny trails, check. Abundant wildlife, check. Long trails, check. Water views, check. About the only thing this doesnt have is a mountain. Seriously, PHC is a fantastic example of what untouched Florida is like. Tidal creeks/marsh on one side and gorgeous pine land on the other and a lot of serenity and wildlife in between. I often have gopher tortoises trying to keep up with me on the trails and Ive seen a plethora of birds and at one point an eagle as I meandered about. There is also an abundance of flora to be seen, so bring your Audubon guide to ID everything. The trails are very well marked, fantastically maintained and easy to follow and you can even connect to two other preserves through this park. If youve never spent the day out here, you owe it to yourself to do so. Its a fantastic spot that I cant recommend enough.

Horse trails, biking, & walking trails are lovely! The park rangers do a nice job keeping up the trails. The only drawback is that after it rains, the trails are puddles. Bring bug spray, you will definitely need it!!

Not anything I would recommend: a group of horseback riders told us Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve was better known for those wanting horse riding trails, not walking. It lacks shade. Betz Tiger Preserve up the road is much more enjoyable for walking/hiking trails.

Nice park. Nice boat ramp. One side is concrete, other side primitive for kayaks and such. Shallow at low tide. The big open area directly out from the dock is a big mud flat. Never hiked I the park but it but I know there plenty of wild wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled.

There are several parking spots for this State Park. See a more detailed review of mine for Betz-Tiger Point trails and facilities. The first parking area just after the visitor center offers a port a potty, ample parking and some nice trails. The trails are sandy and offer little to no shade during the middle of the day. Also, this area offer little access to water. The other access/ parking locations offer better access to the water. There is a small shaded picnic area near the parking lot.Overall, the entire park is a wonderful place to visit and getaway.

Pumpkin Hill Preserve is located on Jacksonvilles north east side. It is large piece of land composed of open fields, pines, and oak hammocks. Some of the trails traverse the wooded areas and some cut through and around the fields which are covered in tall grass.Further along the trail the were two hog carcasses, one of which was almost down to the bone. It was difficult to be sure how they had met their end, whether by another animal or by a human. There is a small leg of one of the trails that provides a scenic view of the marshland.

This is in my top three favorite places to take my dog for a hike in Jacksonville. The trails are well maintained and wide. There is a port-a-potty on site that looks routinely maintained. While there are some portions of the trails that are shared with horse riders or bicyclers there are trails for just hikers throughout the area. There are a lot of trails so you never have to worry about seeing the same things. There are maps located at the bottom of the welcome board located at the trailhead, I recommend grabbing one or snapping a pic cause the trails are marked but it’s easy to forget which trail you’re on if you decide to veer off of the main trail.

We entered the park but didnt go any further than the parking lot which is great by the way for horse trailers. Its big. The trail looked like it was really bad sugar sand and difficult to walk on as far as our eyes could see.

Just left the boat ramp at before the entrance to the park looking for a ranger, there are multiple adult toys scattered at the entrance and a little further there was a duffle bag filled with the same items and some clothing . Not sure if I should have called police, Monday morning will be calling their office . Very creepy !!!

Hiking wise - its just okay. There are wild boars out and about, so do be careful. In general, the trails are not very well marked, unless you go across the road to Cedar Point Preserve, which is fine. Lots of cross streets can make the novice hiker confused, as they cut through the middle of the path.

Google maps didnt take us to the right entrance. We drove around until we found it and since it was a shady path, we walked it for about 45 minutes. They should put a sign at the entrance warning of the ticks! I pulled over 20 off us and our dog. Not worth it.
