Wonderful museum. Lots of interactive exhibits.
An experience you shouldnt miss! Give yourself plenty of time and remember thet the 3rd Saturday of each month admission is free!
Amazing information about Mississippi! The videos, the artifacts, the layers are great. I wish we made it earlier to see both sides of the museum.
Went with son for a field trip and was really surprised how cool and informative this place is. We both really enjoyed the day will def go back. The state capital building is amazing as well visit both!
Somebody put some very careful thought into the design and lighting. There are Interactive, interesting displays all the way down to child height. Slavery was not glossed over. The prehistoric data was a joy to behold and read. The same building also houses the Civil Rights Museum. If you walk out of that part without tears or at least feeling like youve been mildly gut punched, you completely missed the message. I seriously suggest a minimum of 3 hours for each side, then go back months or years later because the small details really make the experience.
Extremely informative but depressing after awhile. Museum itself is beautiful, very well maintained and clean.
Very nice museum covering the history of Mississippi. The museum has 2 floor with many different aspects of its history. It begins with the native Americans through the present. This museum is in the same building as the Civil Rights Museum. There is a free-parking building right next door. There is also a museum store right at the entrance. There is both an elevator and stairs to take you to the second floor. The museum is only a few miles off the interstate so anyone passing through Jackson should stop by. I would definitely recommend this place to others both young and old.
It was very informative and interactive best things to do in Jackson
Outstanding twin museums. They were worth every penny.
Great history lesson
Such an amazing friendly staff! Amazing historical ride!
Saw the slavery exhibit. Lots of reading but certainly thoughtful.
Well done! The museum is beautiful and they have so many interactive, multimedia exhibits. I learned several facts about Mississippi that I had not previously learned. This is a great place to spend the day.
If youre touring Jackson, this is a place you gotta visit!
Truly a well done museum. Ive been to quite a few in various states, and can say that this has a lot of thought put into it. The idea of the two museums together is neat, and both museums taught me a lot--and I dont consider myself ignorant of history. The civil rights museum gives a harsh but accurate view of what it was like for the oppressed in MS, and does it in an engaging and thoughtful way. I liked the tree of advertisements on the ceiling which depict the common, institutional racism--as well as the section on etiquette, which goes over the minutia of what black people were supposed to do around white people. There are small pillars interspersed throughout the early portions of the museum which list the names, dates, and crimes of those who were lynched. The Mississippi History Museum is also a thoughtfully constructed museum, which includes artifacts and tools/weaponry dating back long before statehood. I like that the native american stories included a version in the native language, and the artifacts themselves were fascinating--including a large canoe that was carved and burned from a huge log.
We had a small bag with us because we were walking around Jackson for the day (which contained lunch and water). The security staff were unfriendly said we cant bring it in. Okay fine but should have lockers or something on offer.
It was awesome.Didnt get to see everything but will be going back.
A Fantastic please to go to look back at history.
