We had such a phenomenal time! Really informative and fun for ages. Me in my thirties had just a much fun as my 10 year old!
A high quality, beautiful, and educational museum. The Museum of the Earth strikes and excellent balance between adult and child level education present a history of the earth as well as life on it, in an easily accessible format. The museum also makes an excellent wedding venue with helpful staff and an excellent floor plan.
A must see! Their exhibits are very cute and informative.
This museum was not on our list of things to do, but we decided to stop by because we were so close, and were leaving the Ithaca area to go to our next destination. We were a little worried it would be just for kids, but it really surprised us! We spent about an hour there, and we really liked the bee exhibit. Nice little museum, neat to walk through.
This is at the outset a small museum, but be brave and go in, youll enjoy it. With particular focus on fossils, and wonderfully informative scheme, floor plan and concise description, its a lot of bang for the buck, the microscope to enlarge fossils on rock was very interesting and should thrill most kids and many adults. They had a Bee exhibit which was awesome.
A great museum with lots of fossils.
A lot of neat stuff to look at. Bigger than it looks. Took about an hour to go through. Went with kids of the age 5 and 6. They were somewhat interested. A lot of rocks and fossils made up a majority of the Museum. My biggest complaint was the gift shop.... Very un organized and a lot of the items didnt have prices. The admission desk is the same desk to cash out. Also very overpriced.
Very informative and interactive exhibits. Accessible as I went on the local bus with a stroller and everything was very smooth. The only downside is the absence of a cafe.
Cool little place to check out!
I thought it would be bigger. Still an amazing trip. Would recommend to anyone interested in the earths history.
Really cool place. All sorts of very interesting things to see. The amount of fossils alone is staggering........and then theres the Right whale skeleton, which kind of defies explanation. Its massive, and interesting, and hangs over you when youre downstairs. Two things to note. One, theres basically no cell service, and no wifi, so be prepared, and two, the air conditioning isnt the greatest, so in the summer it can be uncomfortable.
Great museum to go with the family. Our grandchildren and adult family members enjoyed the hands-on activities. A good educational experience for all of us!
Nice museum! Plenty to see and do for a few hours. We loved the exhibits and had a great time at the touch tank (only available at certain times) and the fossil dig area.
It was very interesting but I wouldnt go back.
I took my kids to the museum. I loved how they have a kids area with toys and books and Hands-On activities. Absolutely wonderful we will be returning
Lots of nice fossils. Nice gift shop.
I was told.its a nice place for kids but honestly, unless ur really into fossils, there wasnt much to do to keep my 5 and 7 year old busy. The place itself is very small, only 2 small stories, and my kids had more fun running up and down the ramps inside. I dont want to hurt them with a negative rating tho, so I will just give them a 3. I do appreciate their research contributions and work.
Basically focuses on dinosaurs and prehistoric times. Keep in mind its museum, not a science centre, so theres really nothing interactive for younger kids, so its all reading and looking. You may spend about an hour, reading most of the exhibits.
Smaller museum. It has a nice collection of fossils, including many you can touch. The mastodon skeleton is quite impressive.
Admittedly, I was not expecting much from a museum in a town as small and distant-from-civilization as Ithaca, but I was extremely impressed. The building itself was in a beautiful location and had a fascinating design. The entire exhibit did an incredible job of telling the history of life on Earth. The way the story was told, I found it to be very captivating and thorough. I highly recommend this museum to anyone, whether they are local or itinerant. Loved this place!
Wonderful small museum. They usually have a special changing exhibit which is always cool.if you havent been to the area a lot and want to learn more about the area this is a great place to learn about the gorge and the ice age. Definitely worth checking out if youve never been before.
What a great experience. A terrific combination of hands on, video, and reading displays. From grandparents to toddlers there is pleanty to do. We really enjoyed the docents.
Nice but could use more info on displays and be more kid friendly.
I brought my granddaughters as they were on school vacation. They had a really good time! Very informative in a relaxed and fun environment. We plan on going back.
Exhibits that allow you to travel through time and experience prehistoric times. Great place for children and even adults to enjoy.
Nice museum very friendly staff. Kids had a blast!
Always a great visit with out 3 and 5 year olds
Went on a day when the admission was free. Im generally a huge fan of museums and their service to the community--however there is barely an hour or two worth of material to explore at this one. I cant say its worth the high price of admission.
Great hands on exhibits Fantastic museum! My 4.5 year old loved it. Lots to play with and see.
Very cool little museum, excellent section on bees.
Kids love it, theyd been asking to go for weeks, depending on the age an hour to several can be spent in here. If you head in early its usually pretty empty so you basically get the place to yourself.
Nice place to spend the afternoon with little kids. Ours were not interested in the movies but really liked the hands on activities and fossil displays.
Nice museum, fairly empty the day I visited. Grandson enjoyed playing in the kid area with toy dinosaurs. The ice touching exhibit he also enjoyed. Aimed mainly at older kids, needs a bit more for youngest kids. Nice gift shop. Lovely bones.
Lovely place without going overboard, Engaging staff. It’s a tiny museum size wise but good for patents of young kids and people interested knowing more about the Earth with actual samples. A geography class’s delight.
Great museum. My 8 year old nephew loved it.
Good place to visit with the family.
Lots of fossils and interesting displays. A good visit for a rainy day in Ithaca.
Very nice place, but could use a lot more things for kids to do. It seemed like nobody works on weekends only the gift shop and the front desk, so they can make money...
Very informative facility for people of all ages. The staff is knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. Its a great, facility and an asset to the area.
One of the most welcoming and engaging facilities I have ever been to!
Educationally enriching place to visit for people of all ages! The descriptions are easy to understand and the exhibits cover a wide range of topics including environmentalism, biodiversity, paleontology, evolution, and more. There are also interactive activities such as videos and drawing/coloring. The museum also has live specimens on display including fish, Horseshoe crabs, cockroaches, snakes, starfish, etc. My only wish is that there were more full-sized skeletons of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. The Mastodon (wooly mammoth) and stegasaurus are impressive, but I was hoping to see brontosaurus, sharks, and of course the ever-popular T-rex. As a recommendation to future visitors: take your time in exploring the museum and be sure to come with curious attitude, otherwise youll breeze through the entire museum fairly quickly.
Great visit as always. Their latest temporary exhibit is worth seeing.
Its nice but plenty of opinion based articles about climate change. Its pretty small but good place to bring younger kids
Spent about 2 hours with kids 2 and 4. We all enjoyed it!
Really fun, not the most interractive or interesting for under 4 years old.
A great museum. Love the whale skeleton in the entrance and the different hosted events.
Attended my cousins wedding hosted here, it was a great environment and an awesome museum.
If you love fossils amd dinosaurs, you will lpve this place.
Nice place for the kids. Small, but cozy.
We had our wedding reception here and it was so awesome!! Such a unique venue and all of our guests loved it. It was perfect for dancing and people had fun interacting with the exhibits too. The staff was also great to work with. It was the perfect venue for our event!
This museum is the best kept secret of the Finger Lakes! Brilliant staff, amazing exhibits and a wonderful learning experience.
Its ok, but cmon! You got two rocks, one your dating at 378 million years old, another at 398 million years.....yeah I believe that you can tell the difference...not.No genetic material is ever added, and mutations are not added material. This is scientific fact. Thus evolution....is impossible......i didnt see any posters about that. And among all the fossils I didnt see any mid-evoluted species. In fact no one has ever found any....But it was all cool to look at!
Great place to learn and experience the past!
Awesome natural science museum for adults and kids alike. For children, there are a lot of touchy-feely type exhibits. Adults will enjoy the huge variety of specimens as well as educational videos and exhibit. The admission price was only $9 for an adult which seems quite reasonable. I would budget about 2 hours for this Museum. Maybe this museum is not as big as the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, but having been to both I still think this one is definitely worth planning a trip to see.
I was a little disappointed overall. Ive had the good luck to see some amazing natural history museums, and relative to my.experience this one is small and doesnt have a lot of spectacle. Favorite parts were the fish tanks and the painting alaong the entry ramp.
This is always a family favorite!
Learned A LOT!!! Definitely worth a visit. Well be back.
Very interesting exhibits. Very child friendly. My Granddaughter enjoyed it as much as I did.
Very cute museum with plenty of interactions for kids.
Nice small Natural History museum
Fun place to take the kids, who doesnt like dinosaurs!
Interesting museum covering all geological time periods. Not super in depth but a good amount of information. Good educational videos as well. Recently renovated and it looks like theyre getting some new exhibits. A great way to spend the afternoon learning.
A neat little dinosaur museum. I just wish it were larger.
Learned a lot, recommend catching one of the tours.
Amazing museum for a small town like Ithaca, several stations just for kids, dont forget to dress like dinosaurs or take home a fossil
I was lucky enough to be able to stop here for the Ithaca Loves Teachers event. My colleague and I really enjoyed ourselves while walking through time. I will definitely visit again and will recommend my students visit as well!
Lots of information about our local area, perfect for the kids.
Has some neat Dinosaur fossils
Awsome time, lots to see and do
Lady at the cash register was clearly stoned. The rest if the museum was nice.
Such a great museum! Detailed with wonderful displays and lots of information! Loved it!
Many great, interactive exhibits. I took a 17 year old and we all learned things and had fun.
I was surprised how many things are on display. Definitely worth visiting!
Wow! Who knew there was such a great museum just outside of Ithaca. Definitely coming back.
Small but well done.
Good place to know about the history of earth. The museum itself strives to mix science with fun activities but is on a somewhat smaller size.
Very nice please. Get your learn on, man! I was disappointed they didnt have any dragon bones....I KNOW THEYRE REAL!
What a cool museum. My wife and I visited there a few years ago and enjoyed our time. Not only did we learn about the area but about the geological history too. A very interesting place to spend a few hours!
Really pretty grounds in the summer! Also there is an exhibit of these weird prehistoric dioramas from the Smithsonian in the 50s where they point out all the inaccuracies, so if youre into weird science irony thats worth checking out. I think the exhibits overall need a little updating though.
Great little dinosaur and Earth history museum. Look for your own fossils and touch a simulated glacier.
Interesting
Excellent! The displays and videos, plus hands-on kids activities are very well done. There is much to learn here, including practical steps we can all take to addressour changing climate.
Awesome! Kids and adults loved it. Really great aquariums and some hands on stuff for the kids.
Great if you like fossils and dinosaur bones. But that is all they have. Could have had a little more variety.
We have fun
A small museum that is very kid oriented. Lots of stuff for small children to do. Friendly staff.
