This place has multiple trails that lead to various caves. We took trail #1, from the main entrace (office area). The closer cave was closed due to repairs needed. However, the trail itself was beautiful and worth the visit. The 2nd cave is about 3 hour round-trip walk, which we did not complete. Bring a FLASHLIGHT if you decide to go into the caves. The roads are narrow heading into the park, but there are a few patches where there is a shoulder to pull off into that you can back track to, if needed. I am an experienced driver, but someone newer might find the conditions difficult.
Pretty nice forest in general. But entering the forest was pretty terrifying since there was a thin road with a really big rock covering the other side. But when I went there was a lot of things still messed up from the hurricane and we went to the guards and they said we couldnt go to the cave since there was a lot of trees that have fallen there and they had a lot of cleaning up to do still which sucked.
Such a great place to explore. Well worth the drive, the roads seemed a little narrow. The trails are well marked and the sights and sounds are awesome. If you like to hike you should go here. Go see a cave, BRING A FLASHLIGHT. I wish I would have thought of bringing one ahead of time. Once you are in the caves it can be very dark. So light is needed to really explore. Also be smart, I have not seen all the caves but I am sure there are some you may be able to get lost inside of. Something you don’t want to do.
The cave was phenomenal!! Probably the best one Ive been to in Lares, and there is no official tour or anything like that, which made the experience so much better! I would recommend entering from the north side for better roads. The south side roads are very tight. If you enter from the north you will shortly find a place to park with signs and a map. There is a fairly well maintained path that leads to the cave, and the observation tower, and it is marked. Be sure to bring flashlights!! The entire cave is VERY dark, but large. We spent about 3-4 hours here, looking at the observation tower, cave, and the hike there and back.
Great hiking. Friendly park personnel, very helpful! Beautiful butterflies, bird songs, and mountain breezes!
Unfortunately very little help from Park service, we were unable to find the caves which was rather disappointing. The roads were super narrow even though it was 2-way.
Danger but beautifull. I recommended.
A hidden oasis! Nature at its finest unharmed and not molested.
Amazing place, full of wonders and rich in biodiversity.
I love this Place
Great place to hike trails and explore.Cueva del viento is located off one of the trails. Neat place!
I went a few months after Hurricane Maria. There were a lot of trees down and no way to get to the cave.
If you want to avoid driving too much on a small road, come from the north. If you are looking to do the Cueva del Viento, it is closed. Usually accessible from Trail #1.I have left a review on the Cueva del Viento landmark if you want to see how practicable it is.Their map is quite useless, you wont need it.
Not the same place since hurricane Maria.
Nature had its way to teach even after a hurricane
Great park. Easy hikes and the cave is a good time. Def need a head light or flashlight.
Access is bumpy and somewhat dangerous but worthwhile.
Hidden Gem. The cave trail is magnificent.
