Nice trails tucked right in a residential neighborhood. Our dogs loved it and finished with a nice swim in the creek.
I adore this place because I used to live a few blocks away. I spent the large majority of my time fishing is the creek here.... Im not sure if thats allowed anymore LOL but I did catch some surprisingly large fish for such a small body of water. Theyve recently added trails that allow you to explore more of the beautiful wooded mountainside. Its a lovely little taste of the woods in the center of suburban Birmingham
I really like this little park. I rarely see others there. To get to the trail, you park in the lot which is behind houses (ONE HOUSE HAS BEE HIVES WITH BEES THAT ARE ACTIVE IN WARM WEATHER SO PARK ON THE SIDE OPPOSITE HOUSES IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC OR HAVE KIDS..) and you walk across the bridge on the side and climb over the railing. The trail is a loop but you can start off by going up to the top trail and then returning on the lower trail or vice versa. The trails tend to have muddy spots, nothing you cant go around but if you jog you may want to be prepared to get wet! The elevation is pretty intense, the trail is clearly marked with signs, and the trail is around 1 mile.
Nice little park with dense wildflower populations. ~1 mile loop on a bluff alongside Shades Creek. Park is squeezed into a residential area and from most of the trail houses or yards are visible. Trailhead is blocked by a guard rail on Elder Street but neighbors installed helpful steps to get over the rail. I was very pleasantly surprised by the abundance of wildflowers (early April). Lots of trilium (I saw only cuneatum), rue anemone, woodland phlox, red buckeye, some blue-eyed grass, violets, jack in the pulpits, yellow, white, nd pink wood sorrel, little brown jugs, ..
Hidden gem! Incredible asset to the neighborhood. During the 20+ years I lived in the neighborhood, I spent many hours walking the trail and was so very surprised how nice it was that we had this hidden nature park right in the middle of the city.
Beautiful area with nice trails. Convenient for a quick walk during lunch. Easy parking access
Didnt go through the camping area, but the lake is very nice inside the park. Not the largest state park in AL, but clean and well kept!
Lightly visited, its a scenic trail through the woods and along Shades Creek
Love these hidden trails!
It was amazing
This is a hiking trail. Given no lighting and in residential neighborhood, probably best to plan on daylight hours.
