Perfect way to send home my daughter. Sleep in peace my babygirl#JUSTICEFORMAKEDAMakeda Serenity died tragically on Lake MacBride June 7th. She went under water and was left to die by her coworker James and other persons who felt she didnt matter to receive help. She was left overnight and found the next day where she went down. No one informed her family until 22 hours later when police walked in our home and blurted out, SHES DEAD! infront of my 3 year old and 15 year old.
It is awesome! You get to see the old Capitol building. It is really cool to just walk around and look at all the cool stuff here. Awesome way to kill time. A must see in Iowa City.
This is certainly a definite stop for all visitors to Iowa. The preservation of such a historic icon is essential to understanding the greatness of the state. It is also such a humbling fashion to see how our branches of government work in conjunction with our federal counterparts. This building has gone through not only some great preservation but also restoration from their recent fires just about 10 years ago. The grand staircase is amazing and both the exterior and interiors are prime examples of the period architecture that is of the 1800s.Used both as the state capitol and a vital part of the University, the significance of this building is grand.Be sure to visit the basement to view the original bell that was saved from their fires.
We loved our visit to the Old Capitol Museum and learned a lot. Its on 3 floors but a perfect size. The staff was friendly and helpful. ● There is no entre-fee, but you can donate at the entance. The recomended amount for adults was $5 but $1 for students. ● On the ground floor was a special photo exhibition
Great exhibits! Definitely a must see for anyone visiting or living in town.
I give it five stars because it is excellent for a free museum. It isnt the type of place you will spend all day exploring. Youll view everything within an hour or two. Still, considering how small it is, the exhibits are excellent and really give you a feel for life back in the 1800s. If youre in the area, you can easily spend an afternoon exploring this and the natural history museum next door.
Usually a nice place to sit and talk to someone, or take pictures. Great views too!
Really good place to study. Gorgeous interior and friendly and helpful staff. Many of the high class campus socials tend to be hosted here as well.
Beautiful and majestic but no bathroom on top floor.
Pretty cool place. Lot of history. Well laid out.
The Natural History Museum is a great place to go. Check it out
Beautiful building in a great location
From the back steps, overlooking the lawn you can see a Castle, the University Hospital, in the horizon during beautiful sunsets. Be the change you want to see in the world ;)
Very cool place, big plus is that it’s free. A really awesome place to go if you find yourself bored in Iowa City! Contains lots of originally furnished rooms from when it was the state capitol
Good museum for all ages, see, how Iowa changes through decades and more. Excellent location close to bunch of restaurants, Cafe and other places. Very clean inside, including restrooms and all other facilities. Friendly atmosphere around, old generation employees working together with young as one experienced team.
Beautiful building. Sorry we didnt get there earlier in the day.
Great time and learning experience! Wouldnt take young ones there as they tend to lose interest quickly andwill be tempted to touch . The service is nice seeing that there is only a greeter, and walking through the museum is independent.
Very well preserved/restored old capitol bldg. Also a lot of high quality old wood furniture. Definitely worth going to see.
Really nice museum showing the history of Iowa City and Iowa in general. The renovation process shows on how clean and neat the building looks. Best part is thats free. There are some nice souvenirs for sale inside and the staff are very nice.
Nicely curated, no charge, centrally located.
Went here to hear a public speaker and had some time to waste before it started. The museum was really interesting. You can learn a lot about Iowa. And theres no cost for admission!
Ive been here two times and it was great, the staff were helpful and I really like exploring in here!
Pleasant surprise. Very cool museum.
Fun to visit. Free
I have class here. The museum is a really cool place to kill ten minutes between classes.
A brilliant setting with so much history to tell. Its one of the true icon of the city and worth the visit.
The Old State Capitol Museum is the excellently curated and preserved historical territorial seat of government of Iowa and sits at the center 9f The University of Iowa.
A fun, educational trip for the kids. Theres always more to see, the kids like to go back.
One of our family favorites. Fun for our children as little ones
Can we please get non-Asian restaurants? I love Asian food but muh god, add something else!
The old Iowa Capital suffered a fire a few years ago, but such a wonderful restoration brought it back to its glory.
Really helpful staff and a wonderful place for wedding pictures.
My husband and I just love this historic building. Be sure to check out the Iowa State Supreme Court chambers, some great law was created here.
Beautiful piece of history. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Beautiful place and free to visit!
The kids love to visit the old territorial capitol.
Great history!
Great spot to take visitors. Wish there were more exhibits like this around town to showcase the history of the place!
Worth seeing once.
Gorgeous building and beautifully described in the informational plaques.
Cool natural history museum with stuffed animals and such. Best is it is free.
Was disappointing after doing the Capitol tour in Des Moines. It was good to see as it is part of Iowa history but it was not that impressive.
Cool spot every student should check it out
Beautiful Space!
A beautiful, historic building in the heart of the city. Go now!
