Beautiful antique furniture with a great history told by a wonderful tour guide. Must see!
Oh my gosh this place is a gem! if youblike history please do yourself a favor and visit this beautifully preserved historical home. the curator is ironically southern and gave the best tour. engaged with those taking the tour and answered all questions....she should serve her sweet tea after the tour when giving the kitchen building viewing. admission only 5.00 (cash only) but would easily pay 10.00. I loved visiting this home! will bring out of town guests.
The 10:30 tour is totally worth doing. The director of the museum gave it. She was very knowledgeable about the house as well as Huntsville itself. She is also a very good story teller. I have middle school kids who learned a lot and really enjoyed themselves.
I attended a free event here with my girlfriend. It was really neat getting to poke around a historic Huntsville home! I really enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates historic homes/architecture.
This is a museum in the private home of artist and poet (Maria) Howard Weeden. The cost is $5 and the tour is about an hour long. I found it to be a fascinating glimpse into not only Weedens life and art, but also the early history of Huntsville and North Alabama. Like many private museums, Weeden house has had to branch out to make ends meet so they rent the place out as an event venue as well. This means that Lynn, their lone employee is stretched rather thin as tour guide, event coordinator, curator and hostess so you should make an appointment for the guided tour. Nevertheless, she was as gracious and informative a hostess as you could wish for. Word of caution- there are stairs so if you have mobility issues you may miss the upstairs part of the tour.
Good place to learn about the old history of huntsville, also really great architecture for that old of a house
Officiated a wedding here back on Dec 15 and the house was beautiful. Perfect for a picturesque wedding or reception. Very intimate.
Has an expanded exhibit for the Alabama Bicentennial. From February 1-March 7 2019. The home, furnishings, paintings, etc. give a good sense of life before and after the Civil War. Great way to learn more about local Huntsville area history. Guides knowledgeable and helpful.
It is part of history. They had live music the night of the Christmas tour of homes
Our wedding and reception was in the back yard of the Weeden House. We had lots of questions and requests, and their event/property manager was incredibly flexible and responsive. It was a magical event, and the Weeden House was a huge part of making it feel special.Note: its one of the few facilities in Huntsville that does weddings but allows you to bring your own alcoholic drinks. No forced catering!
My Granddaughter had her wedding held there. It is a small place with pre-civil war features about it and has been held as so but with modern emenities. It was a hot evening 90°F. However it was comfortable under the huge pecan trees there.nice for a wedding.
Beautiful home for hosting a Reception.
Absolutely stunning historical home!
Could not have found a better place for our wedding. The museum director was wonderful and helpful.
