We had a lot of fun at this escape room! Our game master was helpful and really made this a wonderful experience. We completed the Captive room which was well-decorated and we had a variety of clever and interesting puzzles to solve. We will be back the next time we are in Houston to try one of the other rooms. (Arrive early to find street parking, they are across the street from a popular cafe)

Our team came here on a Thursday afternoon, and we had a blast. When we arrived, we checked in using the three iPads at the front desk. The two young men explained the escape room process, and after we chose a room, we began our journey! We chose the Black Gold room and made the leader board! It is a small escape room venue, but we had fun.

It was so fun and look forward to trying another room!

As an avid escape room lover, I really wanted to love this place. Ill start off by saying the staff were great. They were friendly, attentive, and briefed the stories well. The rooms, on the other hand, were merely okay. We played Black Gold and Captive, and both left me feeling dissatisfied and frustrated, and not at all wanting to play their last room (we did win both, with about 20 minutes left on each, so it was not a matter of losing). Some of the puzzles and props were incredibly creative and unique. However, there were so many red herrings (aka locks that arent a part of the room and extra props that distracted from the solutions) and puzzles that were either such a time-draw or couldnt be figured out without a clue, it really detracted from the experience. If its your first escape room, you may have a great time regardless.

Ok. I went in this place with zero expectations. In fact, I booked the place just to appease my date. Folks let me confess, it is the perfect place for first or second date. You will learn so much about your potential partner. Youll either never call them again or head straight to Vegas. Oh, and the staff is amazing!

Took my team here where we had a blast and completed the challenge! We did the captive which was well thought out, requiring lots of team work and communication. The room was set up very realistically we had lots of fun, I highly recommend it!

So the room and props are not of the quality I expected vs the website pictures. I frequent a lot of rooms and the theme vs the actual puzzles felt lacking. It was nothing more than solving 4 digit combinations over and over then solving a 6 digit combination with lockout. While difficult the room lacked the asthetics to lead you to clues and immerse you into the environment. The puzzles seemed almost detached from the theme. All in all I would not recommend this location as there are escape rooms in Houston with way more detail in reality that actually match what is advertised on their website.

Very nice experience at Cipher Escape room. The games were interested and we loved the concept, we had a great time with a team of 3. Maybe one recommendation to reach the 5 stars will be to give a bit more scary atmosphere when preparing the team for the game before entering the room.

We went there with a group of ten people. They have amiable staff. They have three different kinds of level. Pro tips are to work together. Highly recommended place to visit.

This place was so much fun. It was my first escape room experience, and I didn’t think it would live up to the hype but it exceeded my expectations. Very well planned out clues, and definitely very challenging, but my team of 3 still managed to make it out, so we left feeling quite proud of ourselves. The staff were delightful and engaging, which I think added a lot to the quality of the experience. Planning a return visit soon!

The Heist with the squad went as planned! Well, maybe not as planned, we got to within 10 minutes left, not good enough for the wall of fame. But man, it was fun!! Very interactive and smooth clues and guidance provided made it great, however throwing in some extra detail to make sure you focused on the trail was a nice and welcomed touch! Ive done a few Escape Rooms, and this is one where I will be going back to. Gotta try captive next! Highly recommend this with a few friends for a fun and intriguing hour or so!

I went as a group of 2 and just so happened to book the HARDEST room they offered, Captive. My friend and I do escape rooms on the regular. and we always make it out. This time, that was not the case. It was by far the most detailed, creepiest, and darkest room Ive been in. Without giving too much away, it puts you in an odd situation that makes you question your own morals. The directors were also amazing, I cant recall the young mans name, but he was so quick to the point and stayed in character. Once again, this place is absolutely amazing and I would love to come again. Thank you Cipher for such an awesome time and giving me MORE than my moneys worth!

The best escape room I’ve ever experienced. The puzzles are clever and creative. Our groups have had a great time. The staff couldn’t be nicer. I can’t wait to go back and try their new room about old Texas oil. Go here. Bring your smartest and most fun friends.

I love escape rooms and do them all the time. This one--Captive--fell totally flat for my group. The puzzles were easy, but the difficulty was determining what was a puzzle and what was the material you needed to solve it. Once you had actually gotten those parts done, the actual solving was painfully easy. Everything about this room felt arbitrary, with no thematic or logical reasons backing up the solutions. Im less concerned with production quality than good puzzles, but that was mediocre at best also. We did not escape, but we came very close, despite spending about half the time just shrugging because there was no indication of what we were supposed to do.

Right next to my favorite coffee shop, staff are very kind. Took my employees here for a team building event!

Went here for my birthday and it was great! We went through the Captive room and it was really nice. A LOT of attention to detail, and the atmosphere immersed you. Plus the price isnt completely crazy, and its completely worth it.

Totally loved this place. It has a very small inconspicuous entrance which only makes it even more exciting! The staff was very courteous and they help you by answering all your questions. They prep you well before you enter the room. So make sure you listen to their instructions keenly. This will help you proceed in the right path after you enter the room.

This was great fun! I highly recommend participating in an escape room activity at Cipher. The place is hard to find, but the alley is well-lit. Recommended for work groups, friend groups, or anyone really!

Ive been here twice and done the Heist and the Captive.The Heist:We did this with just 4 people and got out with time left. Overall, not very complicated, but still very fun. They have a cool monitoring system with a radio for this room to give hints.The Captive:Quite a bit more complicated, and we ran into an issue with one of the locks. Again, cameras in the rooms with a red phone mounted on the walls to hand out clues. The Captive was a bit harder, but I would highly recommend it.Overall, the folks here are very nice and try to stay in character on the help lines. They have a third scenario that they said was easier than the Heist, so there are rooms for people with all different experience levels.

Definitely worth the money!! We were handcuffed prisoners trying to free ourselves from the murderers lair. Dont ignore the clues right under your nose and work quickly!

We booked the Heist with 12 people for my husbands birthday. Apparently the breakout rate is low. We finally got out with 42 seconds left. I was surprised there are multiple safes and doors to unlock before we can get out, overall it was fun.

What can I say except exceptional experience. Truly deserves a 5 star review. Great team great experience great puzzles. Will be visiting and giving it a go again!

We had a birthday celebration that started with Cipher Escape Room and ended at LaGrange for dinner/drinks. I forgot the name of the room but we were cat burglars trying to find an artifact and get out in time or get arrested. It was very fun, cool, and interesting. We found the artifact but didnt get out in time. So unfortunately we lost but got a lot of cool pictures from it.

Awesome experience! Micheal helped me hide my boyfriends gift within the room to make it an ultimate surprise and experience . Loved everything about this place. A must go. Thank you for end our night awesomely. Michael was great!!

I grew up playing point and click escape room games on the computer, so I was excited to try an escape room at Cipher. Cipher didnt disappoint. The employees were professional, and the room we chose (Heist) was lots of fun. We did not get out in time, but still had a good time. Parking in the area is hard to find, so its a good idea to get their a few minutes before your scheduled time. I will be going back again soon to try Captive.

I went with my family and some friends and it was really fun! The captive room was put together well and the story was creepy. Be careful not to have too much fun there! I want my boyfriend to come and try out with me when i come back into town.

Ive been to 4 Houston area Escape rooms, and this is by far the best one Ive experienced. My group did the Captive room...the decorations were fantastic, and the puzzles were creative, challenging and fun. We escaped with only a few minutes to spare. I cant wait to go back and try their other room.

Had so much fun here last week! Would love to come back. Yes, there is fake blood and bodies but it wouldnt be much fun without a little drama! Puzzles were well done and we all had a great time!

Had an absolute blast here with my family. We did the medium difficulty room as our first room. We almost made it out. We have no other escape room experiences to compare to but for this being our first time it completely met our expectations. Wish they would give returning customers a discount or something but they don’t. They do have cheaper prices on the weekdays I think.

Everything about my experience was fun. The staff were very professional and made if fun by really getting us into the escape mood. we did the captive room and if I could do anything different, I would try and make it a bit scarier.

Great place! Awesome staff, very helpful. Listen to the clues. The more people you have the easier it will be, also try to split into groups and have each individuals work on something to advance faster and get more done.

Loved The Heist! Even the entrance is a bit of a search. Would recommend for a team building event, group of friends looking for a change in the usual night out, families that love each other so much they want to be locked in a room together for an hour tearing stuff up!

Very enjoyable time. You get to choose between Heist and Capture, where youre captured and have to escape. We choose Heist, where you break in to steal a treasure. It was very fun. The challenges take a great deal of work but its worth it and so enjoyable!

Had a chance to attend one of the VIP nights and try their first room and it was AMAZING. Our team wasnt able to get out but we had a blast! I cant wait to try the other two rooms!

I did this for my birthday and it was the most fun Ive ever had!!Cipher is located off of Westheimer, diagonal from Agora. Theres a really cute alley way with lights and a yellow sign designated for Cipher. I bought all the tickets for the Captive room and invited all of my closest friends. We actually escaped with 4 seconds left!Really thrilling, well thought out, detailed puzzles. The game master fit the theme perfectly. My friends want to do the other room next time. 110% would recommend!!!

Very cheap setup (walls in a warehouse - just locks - no secret rooms - no gadgets of any kind), poorly designed (group of 9 and half of us had to just stand there because there were so few things that could be done at the same time - would have been better with fewer people), game master seemed to just be going through the motions (launched into briefing without any change in voice or explanation of what she was telling us). Having done more than a dozen of these across the country this was easily one of the worst.

It was our first time doing an escape room and had no idea what to expect...it was so much fun! We finished the Heist with just seconds to spare! The game was well organized and the staff was really friendly, we will definitely be going back to do the 2nd room! Thanks for an entertaining night!!

My friends and I had a terrific time at this place. We attempted to escape out of the Captive room, but was gassed. The staff was super nice. The money is worth it.

My soccer team came to the Cipher Escape Room for team bonding. When we got there, our team member who registered us realized she had already done the room that we were signed up for (heist), but it was no problem. The staff allowed us to do the Captive Room with no objections. The plot was amazing and the immersion was so much fun. We didnt make it out but it was such a great team bonding experience!! We are all determined to come back and get on the leader board!!

My wife got an invite from work to their grand opening - it was AWESOME!!!! Our team made it out with seconds to spare. We will definitely be back to try their other rooms!

This place was awesome! We did the art exhibition room and it was fun. I wish our group was big enough to have it to ourselves but it was still super fun.

Fun experience. I went on a team building experience there.One strange thing ... They are hyper hyper vigilant about not using your cell phone for any purpose in the room itself. Ive been to their competitor, Escape Room, and they are indifferent on the same issue. Your cell phone comes in handy as a notepad and flash light and doesnt take away from solving the puzzle in my opinion.Location, signage, and parking is not great for this location so give yourself an extra 10 minutes to navigate these 3 logistical issues.

This is our second visit to the escape room on Westheimer. We had the same family group of 10, so had the hour to ourselves, including two preteens. Everyone had a great time trying to find the hidden clues that worked combination locks. This time we finished with four minutes to spare. Last time we probably would have needed another fifteen minutes. You get a game master who can help if you run into obstacles. We had a pulley get stuck, for example. An intense and fun hour. There are three different rooms, each with different goals and methods. Try it!

Went for a friends birthday April 2016 and it was a perfect experience. Our group was small and stretched thin trying to figure things out. We didnt make it, but enjoyed every minute! Our attendant was great, she offered the option to show us the rest of the puzzle. Will return to try another room!

This place is great!! Went in not knowing what to expect but had a blast. The more people you have in your group the easier it will be to escape!

First time ever visiting an Escape Room. The staff was very gracious and kind. Be prepared to reserve online because the rooms fill up fast. Our group of 12 was split into two rooms which was a setback--both rooms have teams of 12--but the hour seemed to fly by! Go to the Heist room first if youve never done escape rooms. Much higher success rate and the puzzles are extremely difficult in Captive. Room 319 is an upcoming room to look into.

This was so much fun! The people were very friendly and accommodating.

We played The Heist. Some of the puzzles were challenging and others werent, but as a whole it was a nice experience. However, a very subpar lock on the door separating the two rooms within The Heist prevented us from escaping - we had the correct combination (GREEN) and turned it into number form, but we were sitting there for 5-10 minutes trying to get the door open because the lock was so arcane. We didnt get out in time, but the game master let us finish because we had 5 of the 6 digits left on the final door. We were just one minute shy of getting out, but because of the arcane lock on the separation door, we were prevented from doing do. Overall, great room, but the lock on that door needs to be changed.

Went here with some of my family and ended up doing two rooms in one night. The rooms are set up well and the puzzles are varied and challenging. In our first room, we were paired with some strangers to fill up the room and I do think there were maybe a few too many people in the room. Some of us ended up just standing around while others finished up puzzles. We did manage to escape both rooms, but it definitely wasnt easy. My only wish was that they had more than three rooms. Were definitely coming back to finish up the last one.

We had a great time! The escape room was well designed, good atmosphere and a fun challenge for our group.

Tons of fun, very cleverly set up. Ours was extremely hard, or maybe we were just bad... Either way, my group had a great time. My only complaints were it was relatively expensive, and I felt like my room (kidnapping one) had too many people to where we couldnt work effectively.

Had a blast with the Heist room! The number and difficulty of puzzles just about filled the time we were given and was it was satisfying to solve and finish! My one complaint would be the number of people in the room at a time... it did feel a little crowded at times and more than a few instances of too many chefs in the kitchen

I had a wonderful time escaping from their challenging brewery rescue situation. It took all of our minds to barely escape with the secret recipe but it was so much fun!

Great teambuilding activity that I was not really looking forward to. After getting there, the staff was great and escaping the room really helped me learn some work styles and behaviors of my colleagues.

Ive been to bigger escape rooms this was small and could have been scarier. The clues were really hard to get and you could barely hear yourslef.
