I have gotten two pieces from flying squid so far, fairly priced and very beautiful. Jeremy is very cooperative with your wishes and applies his own experience to make sure you get the best result you can. Very clean materials and skilled artists, I will do more buisness with them in the future.

Billy is ! He has re-done my inner arm from a previous tattoo artist, which came out crazy good . Since then has been my go to artist for my whole outer arm. Highly recommend Billy. Very professional, good quality, on time & excellent customer service.

Catfish is talented and did a great job but totally price gouged me during Covid. Went in for a quote. Told him what I wanted, gave me a price which was reasonable. Ended up taking 3 sessions and the price kept going up and up! I was stuck bc obviously I had to finish it so he had me by the balls and no matter what I had to accept the increase. The tat ended up costing me not double but TRIPLE what he quoted me! So yes it’s good work but he totally screwed me! He kept trying to give me all these excuses as to why it kept going up but dude that’s terrible customer service! Go somewhere else! Too many good tattoo artists around.

We came in as a walk-ins, had plenty of art/comics to look at while we waited. Good tunes, too. Worked with artist, Jeremy, to design a cover-up/fix-up for my father-in-laws tattoo. Artist took all our suggestions and gave valuable input, along with any other artists that happened to overhear us. Tattoo came out great and exactly what he wanted. Ill be coming here for any work I need done, for sure.

Extremely rude when I inquired about tattoos. telling me to leave and look online for info to set up appointed. Some large gentlemen that reeked had very little patience and I couldn’t believe such a small shop could so rude. Definitely would never recommend this place.

Absolutely love this place! Got my tattoo done by Jesse, who was extremely friendly and helpful. We had to reschedule a few times due to Tropical Storm Imelda, but Jesse was very cooperative, he exceeded my expectations and it was worth the wait. I’m so grateful for the work he did and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to get a tattoo. Awesome job guys!

Awesome place. I got a tattoo from Mel last year. We live in Nebraska drove all the way back 6 months later just to get more work done by her. We plan on coming back soon to continue to get more work done on my arm. She has a great personality and does AMAZING work! Great shop everyone there was very nice and welcoming. I would recommend this shop and Mel to EVERYONE.

Just an overall bad experience, Undecided of how I wanted the tattoo done, gave Jeremy an idea of what I wanted and free range in the design with no sense of immediacy. Paid my deposit and didnt hear from him for more than a month. When asked about how the drawing is going, took him 4 days to respond. He then shows a rough sketch (3 independent stencil copy and paste together [something you would do in 2 days]), and canceled our meet up.I think he wasnt into it or feeling it. I didnt even know where to begin so I left it there.Advice, if you see your tattoo artist is not into what you want, more than you, then just walk away even if you lose money.

I wasnt the one actually getting the tattoo, but I was very impressed by the quality of work done and the passion of the artist, Billy Ho. Billy took the time to show us that all tools were either sterilized or brand new, opening everything in front of us. He takes his work very seriously, while being 100% approachable and friendly. I am seriously considering my first tattoo thanks to him. Thank you Billy!

I had a phenomenal experience at Flying Squid Tattoo. I had read some great reviews online, and it definitely lived up. Jeremy was my tattoo artist. He was wonderful. I had a custom idea in mind and he drew it up perfectly. He was super patient as I went back and forth on size and placement and other slight adjustments. He talked me through everything. This was my first tattoo and it was on my side, so I knew it would hurt, but honestly, I think it was as quick and painless as it could have possibly been. I came in with a very simple request - a solid straight line down my back. Anyone that knows tattoos know this is no simple task. I met up with Catfish and we talked through thickness, placement, length.. it took easily an hour to get things where we had agreement from basically everyone in the shop.Two. Hours. He was thorough, careful and picked up quickly if I was getting too tense. Tattooing your spine is pretty painful and he was great about it. In that moment - little things like stretching or asking for 20 seconds makes all the difference between holding your breath and breathing.The result is bad ass. I freaking love it. The bonus - he told me I can come back any time to have it touched up! Catfish is the dang man!!

My wife went to get a tattoo and we both love it. Catfish, the tattoo artist, was very professional and the tattoo turned out exactly as we had hoped for. Definitely call before coming over to see if they have time. Also, dont expect a bigger project to be taken care off the same day, Catfish will take time to draw a draft and everything, which is totally worth the wait!

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Not only was Catfish over an hour late to an appointment that had been made 2 months prior, he was completely unprepared, had not drawn anything in advance, and then was prepared to charge me 210 dollars for a dandelion that is only about 2 inches long and took less than 20 minutes. After knocking off a few dollars for being late he then said that my 60 dollar deposit went to artist time for the drawing- mind you he had drawn nothing when he finally got there and scribbled something together in less than 10 minutes, and had the nerve to get upset with me when I pointed this out. I have been tattooed by multiple artists in multiple cities and never had as bad an experience as this. Neither myself nor my girlfriend will be returning to this place and I will make sure that no one I know does either, and I could certainly have driven a lot of business here had I been treated differently. I would recommend going to Gold Rush around the corner from here, or any other studio.

I didnt get tattoos I got piercings and she was great. Helped me with making the right decision on placement and made sure I was comfy. Clean place, helpful, good price. I couldnt ask for more. And they are happy to take your call if you have questions or forget things that you may have been told before. They cover cleaning instructions as well and make sure you dont do something silly to make sure the piercings are always clean and taken care of. I would recommend this place for any piercing and tattoos. The artist were cool to talk to as well and they have local artist art you can buy etc.

Got a tattoo and piercing here. The place and people were wonderful. The day I was supposed to get the tattoo done was one of the flooding days. They called me up said they didnt want me out in the rain could we do it the next morning. The owner/artist came in two hours before shop hours to get it done for me. I absolutely love this place and recommend it to everyone!

So, heres my experience with The Flying Squid:After Hurricane Harvey, I really wanted a tattoo that celebrated Houston. I am Houston born and proud. I put a call out to my facebook friends, asking if anyone knew of a tattoo parlor that might have been suffering in the wake of Harvey, that I could give my business to.A friend recommended Ben Perez, whom I believe is called Catfish, a wickedly talented artist who was donating half the proceeds of Houston-born tattoos to Hurricane Harvey victims. While my tattoo design was not the same one he was offering as part of his donation fund, when I contacted him about requesting the tattoo I wanted (an ekg heart line that phased into the Houston skyline, that then phased back into an ekg line), he was happily gracious about including my tattoo in the ones he was donating funds for Harvey.I gave him a small deposit so that he could design my tattoo, which would have to be created from scratch. He made the design and we set a date.Finally, the day of my inking came. I was so excited!! I showed up early to his studio, and was nervous (I love tattoos but hate needles), so I went outside to have a smoke. He came outside and showed me his design for me. It was everything I wanted!!! It was the right size and width. He had taken some liberties on a few of the distences between several buildings, making them further apart so that the skyline was more pronounced, which I LOVED. It was perfect. I WAS SO EXCITED!He laid me down in the chair and began. I had forgotten how painful a flank tattoo was! I already had one that was years old on my other flank, and I guess I had forgotten the pain of that one.My tattoo was only one single continuous line, but it was right across my ribs. The entire time he worked on me, Ben encouraged me, complimented me, and paused to ask me how I was doing and if I needed to stop. His hand was always steady, but he never hesitated to pause and check in on my pain level. I always felt in good hands with him, from start to finish. He would take a breather to ask how I was doing; to make a joke; to tell a story. He even shared his own experiences being tattooed. I was so grateful with his patience. I was able to forget the pain because Ben was so careful abd considerate with me. I was so grateful!My tattoo from him healed beautifully. It was only red for a few hours. There was no scabbing. It only itched a tiny bit. It retained all of the ink. He did an excellent job. Despite it not being my first tattoo, he still went over the caretaking steps with me, and offered any support I might have needed. And, he donated half of the proceeds of my tattoo to Hurricane Harvey survivors. Hes a true hero.I would definitely recommend him again. His artwork is beautiful and his hand is steady. Hes a true Houstonian that cares about our city, and a small business owner that needs lots of love and support. I have recommended that my husband get his sleeve finished from Ben, and my next tattoo will definately be from him!

I was visiting from out of town and decided that I wanted to get my conch pierced before heading home. So I did a little bit of yelp research and stumbled upon Flying Squid.. mainly because they were open on Sundays but I ended up extremely happy with them. Makana was awesome, totally professional and I barely felt any pain. My friend wanted to change out some of her jewelry but the tool Makana needed had to be sterilized before she could change them and my friend ended up getting her second forward helix. Makana gave her a few options of placement before piercing it and from what my friend told me she felt next to no pain as well. Next time Im in the area and looking for another piercing I know where Im going!!!
