I love this place! Its my getaway from things for a while when Im not zoning out on my aquariums. The guys here are very helpful and they always have great fish. Most of my stock came from them.

Steve, besides being very knowledgeable, is just a plan good dude. Wont over change you for anything, always treats his customers right! I go in most weekends just to talk to him and see what he has in stock that week. I think I have bought around 95% of my fish from him. The other 5% is from when indidnt know him. Hes honest guy to do business with. Anyone looking to get into the hobby, or decent selection of fish should go see him.

The facility was not clean. I should have turned around when I saw how dirty there fish aquariums were. I feel my fish was over priced and didnt survive 1 day! Called them and they were not apologetic about the service. Offered to test the water, but informed me AFTER that there were no guarantees on the fish. I wouldve felt better flushing $15 down the toilet instead of a catfish. Very disappointed!

Been around since 1976 in Hoover. Ive been going since the late 80s. Great selection of fish, aquariums, & supplies. Steve & Steve are knowledgeable, fun, helpful, & cool. Love this place for all my aquarium needs!

The gentlemen was very helpful and the prices were understandable. They only lose a star because of all the dead fish and tank conditions. I know its hard to care for so many tanks, it just makes me nervous to buy fish from them.

This place is AMAZING! I love that it doesn’t feel sterile lol- it feels like a place fish would want to be. The tanks were clean and the fish healthy. They have a large variety and are very friendly and knowledgeable. When we left, our van wouldn’t start and they came out and helped us get it started and told us where to go for a new battery (we are not local- came from Tuscaloosa just to come to this store). Great business- will buy from here again!

Steve is the reason i got 6 fish tanks in my house now after showing me the basic steps and he was always happy to help me and tell me what to do and even give me cheaper prices than online and wouldnt mind at all to help me to find cheaper prices if I could find. All he cared about is making people enjoy this hobby because its something you can only do for fun and he been doing it for long time. To be honest he is the only reason I still have my tanks and dont mind to buy more and more as long as he is working their.

Took my 15yr old daughter to the shop after her 20gal tank failed with pet shop fish. Steve was extremely helpful and offer some very important advice and lots of tips to help her succeed, but did not try to sell us anything, (although we did buy some supplies). Will be stocking the tank from their selection in the near future.

My first trip there in over 5 years and I was very disappointed. Almost no prices on fish, dead fish in numerous tanks and the tanks were dirty.The Birmingham area is sorely in need of a good independent fish store.

Ive been going there for 30 years and they have always been very helpful and knowledgeable about fish. One of the last great locally owned mom and pop fish shops still left where the staff have an extensive knowledge of fish. They might not stock a ton of freshwater anymore, but they will order anything and always have quality fish including some odd balls you will not find anywhere else.

My daughter loves this fish store but I dont understand why they let the tanks get so messy. Black algae is growing in almost all the tanks.

I would give Steve and Steve a bad review just to mess with them, but I wont. Ive been going there for more than 10 years. The fish stock is healthy and Ive never been disappointed. If you want a special fish, ask. They try their best to have high end products. I support local people and places as much as I can and I consider this my home store.

Ive purchased most of my saltwater livestock from Aquarium Imports over the past 10 or 15 years.Ive always gotten healthy animals and tons of great advice from the owners.The only reason they didnt get 5 stars is the state of disrepair inside the store. The lighting in particular is bad. Only a couple balasts still have working bulbs and the rest are uncovered and burned out.If theyd tidy up and make some minor repairs this would be a much more pleasant place to shop.

They have an okay selection of salt water fish but the tanks were disgusting as well as the whole store. Wouldn’t recommend unless u wanna contaminate your tank :)

Love this place dont have a wide selection but the sheer fact that he will order whatever you need makes this place amazing!!

I went in looking for some bottom feeder for my aquarium along with some plattys. I asked tge sales guy if he had any bristle nose pleco (I need a smaller species for my 45 gallon tank.) He said no, but I have a gold nugget pleco (its a bit more expensive). He told me a spill on how they coloration will change as they grow and mature. So I buy one for 20 bucks. I also asked for 2 platys (I didnt watch him put them in the bag, though I really should have. I just assumed he would give me healthy plattys. What he gave me was neither healthy nor plattys, but I will get back to that.) The pleco turned out to be a clown pleco (5 dollar fish), and when I get home I have two sword tails with a terrible case of ich. His tanks did not look great, though generally his fish seemed okay. He also had a red tail catfish in a tank waaaayyy to small for it. Not a baby red tail that would outgrow the tank, but one that was too big for its tank. I will never give this place business again. Not respectful for its fish nor its customers.

This place is disgusting, low light, snails everywhere. Would it hurt to clean the glass once in s while? To top it all off they have a big sign right when you walk in that states choose your fish carefully, no refunds.

Despite the array of fish species, the tanks are absolutely filthy and broken and just overall in terrible condition, as is the floor of the store. Maintenance much needed.

He was not helpful he sit there looking at us like was we not welcome in his store because we were black. Never ever will go again. Will tell everyone I know do not shop at this nasty place.

Absolutely the best selection of freshwater fish in the city. THe staff are knowledgeable, they have hand collected mopani wood and many other rare aquarium accessories. They sell salt water fish too. The store is a little run down but who cares. Staff are nice and will let you pick their brain about the hobby.

Dirty dirty dirty!! Went in after finding this shop on Google, and wow: what a mess! The tanks were so dirty, that there was slime and algae covering EVERYTHING. You could barely see the fish! Then, there were no prices posted. This tells me they price according to who is buying. The supplies are all old and by the look of their condition: most likely expired.Do not shop here. I have no idea how they stay in business.

GREAT customer service! BEAUTIFUL driftwood for only $7.99 per pound. Also, theyll order specific species/color varieties of available. Seriously, people - support your local LFS. Particularly THIS LFS. :)

I bought two clowns from the store 1 died I called them to let them know they said they would take care of it I decided I wanted a black white clown rather than an orange and white clown they let me upgrade at no extra cost very kind and very courteous

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!! I went in Thursday to buy my boss a salt water fish for Christmas, so I picked out what I wanted and came back Friday morning and picked it up. We put him in the tank and I went in the next morning to feed and check on him..Did the same Sunday morning. Unfortunately, he was dead on the bottom of the tank when I got there early Sunday morning. I tried to call everyday since Sunday but with the holidays they were closed. I went in today, Thursday (their first day back open) just to be talked to and treated like crap.I have kept this adorable little fish in a bowl in the refrigerator, just to be told I should have froze him, and that I should have brought some water that didnt have a dead fish in it. If I would have known the fish would only live 2 days, I might would have brushed up on what to do when someone sells you a bad fish!! I was told a fish has no warranty and that they dont know that I didnt leave it in my trunk all weekend. I guess thats why I came back to pick him up the next day on my lunch. Not to mention the fish tank cleaning guy there cant ever show up when scheduled to. He has been no showing at my office for over 3 weeks. All I wanted is for them to do the right thing and replace the fish that I had just spent $40 on Friday morning. Picked up Friday and dead by Sunday is just not right. They said it could be the water yet there is another fish thats just fine thats been alive for almost 6 years. Then it could be that the other fish killed it, the fish that died was four times bigger than the one thats still alive so I doubt thats it either. They talked to me like crap all because they didnt want to do the right thing.Then, as I am walking out the guy says so you still want me to come out to clean the tank tomorrow. PLEASE do yourself a favor and take your money and business somewhere else. I DEFINATELY WONT BE A RETURN CUSTOMER AND NEITHER WILL THE COMPANY I WORK FOR!! By far the worst customer service I have ever seen!

This place is great. I come here at least once a week to check up on what new plants and driftwood they have in. Low prices mixed with a vast array of fresh and salwater supplies. Whatever you need Steve can get. Best selection of fresh and salwater frozen food anywhere around. I highly recommend this store if you are into advanced aquascaping or are even just beginning the hobby. Steve (owner) is extremely nice and will give you whatever advice you need. I will continue to come here over other aquarium stores, it os the best.

I have purchased freshwater fish from them for over a year now all of which have died. Why did I keep going back? From time to time they had fish that I was looking for elsewhere, and I figured Id try my luck once more. Usually the owner (the short stout guy) was fairly reputable. Never offered me a guarantee for fish that die in a few days after purchase but would always take a little off of the same type fish I purchased. They often have sick and diseased fish and you can see this for yourself clearly if you know a little about fish and know what to look for...I googled to learn about the fish Ive owned via hard facts and forums. After frequently purchasing fish there I was surprised and irrate to recognise that the slim hillbillie with the beard would think to cheat me in the owners absence, quoting me a different price than what I ended up paying upon the owners return. The fish I purchased were once again noticeably infected with ich/velvet. I asked for a discount to no avail and was told there was no guarantee on fish. Often I would ask for a specific cichlid and the owner would always say that fish was on his order list and should be on his shipment the following Thurs. That was a year worth of Thursdays and I would always just miss that particular fish being sold to someone else. A tactic to get me in the store figuring Id buy something else. Anyway, needless to say my business apparently isnt good enough for them so Ill continue to get the exact fish I want shipped to my door from reputable breeders who give a guarantee on eBay.

They know everything. Wont sell you something you dont need. Ive shopped with them for 5 years or so. Wouldnt go anywhere else.
