We went there opening night to see The Mountaintop. It was a 90 minute play...no intermission. Two thespians had us riveted in our seats!! They were excellent!!We enjoyed ourselves!! Several times I had tears in my eyes, because of the vivid images the actors portrayed. The play pertained to the night before Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. was assassinated. It is one of the best plays TAG has sponsored!! The two actors should be nominated and receive The Best Actor and Best Actress awards.I do not know how long the play will be at TAG, but it is a must see!!
First time here in support of a friend who was in the Jackie Claxton play. Really enjoyed and loved the intimate, cozy atmosphere of the venue. A great space and would definitely return.
What a excellent cast of actors! My experience there, changed me from movies to watching more live plays!
YES!! I LOVE TAG!! Its an amazing place that shows amazing plays and I would love to Act here one day!!
Cinderella WaltzIf you’re looking for your traditional fairytale, you’ll find a few pieces in this play. If you like your fairytales with some fun twists, this is the show you must see! With the revitalization of classic stories at the movies, this take on a classic fairytale does not disappoint. The performers made you love, pity, cheer, and hate them. The script was witty and charming and delivered by the performers with almost perfect timing (there were some “extra” giggles but that added to the show). The set was simple, effective, and featured many fairytale and farm “cameos,” if you take the time to notice.Make the time to watch this show. You will laugh. You will cry. You will say “Aww.” Only 2 more weekends so get moving and get to The Brad Powell Theater and see this performance.
Always wonderful to watch the talented actors in a small setting. Great performances.
Nice, local group of actors and very interesting performance. I enjoyed it.
Loved the Thurgood Marshall one man show last night. I learned a lot.
TAG live performances at the Brad Powell Theatre are masterfully done in an intimate setting that has been recently refurbished. Each has been cast with superb actors, who are truly passionate about performing in live theatre, focusing on contemporary and thought-provoking issues. Each performance Ive attended has been a wonderfully ephemeral experience. Parking is convenient and is validated. Not to be missed during intermission - Joyces homemade treats.
Lovely intimate theater experience, specializing in off broadway plays
For years we have followed The Actors Group around Honolulu and are huge fans. They have settled in at the Dole Cannery on Iwilei Road in a sweet little intimate theater on the ground floor with free parking across the street at the movie theater building. I dont know how they attract so many amazing talented locals for their incredibly professional drama performances, but they continue to rival anything that we have seen in New York City. We confidentially support all that they do.Come! Hear! See! Experience great theater with The Actors Group.
Ive got to give 5 big stars to TAG for their recent offerings of Edward Albee plays American Dream and Zoo Story. This little theatre does big work. In American Dream the cast does excellent ensemble work. Some of the very best Ive seen since moving to Oahu from Los Angeles about a year ago. As a 30+ year veteran of the theatre and having seen some great productions of all sort of genre -- I have to say, that I found one of the best theatres on this island in TAG. Zoo Story offered up one of the best ever portrayals and interpretations of the play and the character of Jerry -- that Ive ever seen done. In both plays, the directors were very aware of the pace and subtext in the material, and in particular in Zoo Story. wow. I thoroughly enjoyed an evening out at the theatre! Each time I go, I get inspired!
Currently a cast member of the play Pocatello. Great show to be in and great theater to watch shows in.
TAG has the courage to select challenging material and allow actors to rise to a level of excellence. One of the best productions Ive seen in many years was Topdog/Underdog. The intimacy of the theatre space allows the audience to invest in the story and the characters. I highly recommend TAG!
Cozy theatre, the performers are SO IN TO IT.
I have never been a great fan of Edward Albee, but I love live theatre and I love TAG, so I volunteered to serve as stage manager for the production of The American Dream and The Zoo Story which ran from May 6-29, 2016. Both plays were cast exceedingly well and performances were superb! By the time the run was over, I have to say I have a fondness for both plays. All of the performances were stellar, but Jo Pruden (The American Dream) and Alex Fox (The Zoo Story) provided us with extraordinary performances. My hat(s) is/are off to TAG once again!!!!
The best plays, directors, actors, stage sets, costumes, comfortable seats, and intermissions fresh baked goodies! The Happiest Song Plays Last is 2.5 hours long with an intermission for Joyces goodies.
This is an AMAZING, cozy 70+ people theater, that never fails to deliver a TOP NOTCH production! Centrally located with FREE VALIDATED PARKING!Intermissions always have AWESOME refreshments too!QUALITY, LIVE entertainment here!!
Thanks to Eric Nemoto and Brad Powell, TAG has opened the door to original creative works and stimulating plays that otherwise might never be seen in Hawaii. TAG is truly a gift to thoughtful audiences here. Keep up the good work! If the theater is to stay alive, it needs theater companies like TAG.
Have never been disappointed. their casting, staging, and directing have always delivered for me. over time, tag has struggled with facilities and financing, but these challenges have not dimmed the excellence of their productions! from a variety of viewpoints, they are in a very good place now.
The Little Theater That Could...TAGs productions are consistently excellent and mind provoking. Mothers and Sons was a heart-wrenching, painfully real look at the world as we know it. Under pressure, (a leading man who went to emergency surgery, and an awesome woman who stood in for him as the male character), TAG once again demonstrated professionalism and talent worthy of note.
TAG is one of the premier theaters on Oahu. It hs always provided provocative and timely plays.
Awesome play, great service! Will come again!
This was a nice pleasant surprise. The acting was beautiful, the play was beautiful, and I had a great time! Keep up the excellent work!
Honolulus best kept theatrical secret ! Great productions of significantworks in an intimate theater setting. This may be Way Off Broadway, butthe quality of productions is first class......
Intimate venue.. Yellow Man production and actors were awesome! Very enjoyable evening! Mahalo
We are technically not closed Monday - Wednesday but those are the times we are working on other things such as set building. Shows are performed on Thursdays through Sundays. We answer the phone and emails anytime. I am the Production Manager at TAG and will be affiliated with TAG forever. I love my TAG people and am always amazed and proud of everything we put up. Exposure is what we lack Come and see something, anything, and you will know what we are talking about.
Thought provoking and well-performed productions at reasonable prices.
Probably the best theater on Oahu. The plays are carefully selected, well performed, and mostly straight drama as opposed to musicals. Also, you cannot pass up Joyces Goodies during intermission!
I love this theatre! Innovative art, passion, and creativity - one of the best theatre deals in town.
Great plays, the current play is Yellowman by Dahle OrlanderSmith. Starring Curtis Duncan and Wendy Pearson. Directed by Derrick Brown. This show runs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 7pm. Sunday Matinee at 2pm. Showing until Sunday 2/5/17.
Intimate theater, with not a bad seat in the house, producing some of the most interesting, challenging, thought-provoking, and entertaining works in all of Honolulu.
This hardworking group of actors and technicians create some amazing theatre in Honolulu. Underfunded, overworked and uncompromising: these people make some great art.
Count on TAG to do new, challenging and interesting theatre, with a real commitment to artistic excellence.
Good shows and friendly people work there.
Love the theater
Great productions!
Ive done several plays here
