Clean and relaxing. And our 5 year old LOVES the animals.
Good places to go running, walking and do some work out
I really like this place. Been going for years. You only have to pay for parking. Everything else is free, unless you want to feed the sheep for a quarter. Great place to bring the kids. Lots of animals that are healthy and very close.
Go do yourself a favor and get the yearly pass. For $20 a year you get access to the zoo, nature trails, playground, and greenhouse. The actual zoo is great. It will take about 45-60 minutes to walk through. Its all animals that cannot be reintroduced to the wild due to injuries. Its a great time
Cute place. Nice view of animals. Parking fee in season but everything else is free. Bring money for ice cream truck in summer. Light show is cute during the holidays. Has a walking trail and playground.
The Brookhaven ecology site has an exhibition animals that cannot be returned to the wild due to their injuries, but it is a place where you can see a pair of bald eagles a mountain lion bears, all kinds of birds including peacocks and vultures. The facility also hosts Home and Garden exhibitions and has a lovely walking Track with exercise stations along the way for those who prefer their exercise in a natural setting rather than a gymnasium. There is no cost to visit or use this facility. There is plenty of available parking, and is completely handicapped accessible.
Slightly embarrassed to say that I just visited the Brookhaven Ecology Site for the first time.. Having grown up on Long Island I’ve always loved the many parks and nature preserves that we have access to but last week they hosted a small conference here that attracted my family.. If you’re a non-resident there’s a $5 parking fee, which was more than worth it for us since we spent the whole day here, using the playground and strolling through the ecology center to check out the animals.. There’s a massive parking lot so even though it was crowded when we went, there was plenty of parking.. We brought our own food but there is fast food onsite, hotdogs, burgers, fries, etc.. The playground is clean and well maintained, and it was packed with kids all enjoying themselves and playing together really nicely.. The grounds are also very well kept and the staff here was pretty friendly.. All in all this is a really nice park and well worth a visit if you’re looking for a family activity!!
Great place to bring kids to see animals, they also have a park. I love that it only cost $5 and the money goes to the animals. It has many summer programs as well!
Perfect place where to bring kids and relax, they have allot of local animals that needed to be cured and they never left. The park its free and includes a nice playground.
It was a cold day but we ventured out to visit and pet all the animals. The grounds were kept near and clean, all the dying flowers were being removed to make way for the next season. Christmas lights are going up and I cant wait to see them lit.
The light show was great for our child! We enjoyed it as well and it wasnt too long. We brought the stroller and were able to move around fine with it.
My mother used to take me here when I was young and if I have kids Ill be taking them here pending allergies of course
The best place ever
Great place for kids especially in the summer
Always pleasant to come here.
AWESOME food, service, place
Holiday light show was only $5 and well worth the price. In the warm months they offer free viewing of their diverse animals.
Always love this place! I always try and go to do the small walking fitness trail. As a kid i loved the little zoo they had there! Great place to relax and forget the stress in life. Would rate this place more than 5 stars if i can!
Love the bear and other animals..in summer there is a pay public pool with lifeguard. Playground . food and ice cream truck. wheelchair and stroller accessible
What a wonderful experience. Over the years I’ve frequented the ecology park. But today in particular, I encountered the loving working family of staff that answered all my questions, and genuinely showed love and care for the animals. It was heart warming, and made me realize how special such staff are and what they bring to our animals and town. Thank you to all the hard working staff for providing such care to the animals and the visitors.
Its just so nice to get out in the fresh air. Walking around the little zoo area. Watching my sons face while he looks at all the animals.
Very cute place to take the kids. Has animals and a playground. Also has a pool in the summer
We love going here for the paved exercise trail that is free from cars and has exercise stations. There is a $5 parking charge during the summer, but its worth it. The zoo is nice to walk through and has a sink (usually with soap) for washing hands after feeding the goats! Theres a playground and picnic tables as well.
Great place to bring the family.
Great little inexpensive activity with the kids. Beautiful flora throughout and a lot of cute animals. Nice walk through the park and interaction and feeding with the animals. Hope to come back again soon.
Great place to go for a walk. Theres a lot to see. The animals, the plants. Theres a nice trail for walking. Theres an excercise circuit you can do along the trail. Its a little hidden gem.
Outdated facilities, definitely apparent that the town isnt giving the center a ton of money to update. Animals dont exactly seem happy about being there... I really hope they are able to fundraise or receive some money to update their grounds... Has a lot of potential
I visited today. Great inexpensive place to visit. My complaint is the lack of water in some of the exhibits. Today was nearly 90 out and the animals were panting like crazy. Of course that’s normal for how hot it was but they should have more water in their exhibits or perhaps small sprinklers, or a mist. The bear has a huge enclosure and yet has water in one place far off from where it even was. If possible there should be a way for these animals to cool down besides going into their homes where it’s still hot. Perhaps baby pools for the animals that are safe with one, just something involving water to cool them down. Besides that a very nice place to visit.
Free place to take the kids that simply amazes
Brookhaven Ecology Center. A town run park that has a small childrens zoo and a walking/biking mile long track/loop. Its pretty small in terms of size and animals living here. They have paved stroller paths. Lots of shade. They have buffalo, goats, llamas, horses, mustang horse, cow, bear (which we could not see it correctly since it was sleeping just outside the shed). There were different kinds of birds were there. Hawks is big bird, two bald eagles are the huge mighty eagles sitting up on their area. Pay for parking unless you have a Town pass. They have section for free compost (free for the local).
Great site for kid to visit, zoo is free and plenty of parking space. Beautiful trail.
A great free zoo for all ages, which was much bigger and more diverse than I imagined. I particularly love Wilbur the enormous pig, but wish his pen had more enrichment or grazing. Animals seemed well cared for in clean habitats.
Beautifully set up for Christmas! The walkthrough was an amazing experience for the kids and the adults.
Great place for the kids
Great community place!
Went to see Santa arrive on helicopter and then come in w/ the Holtsville fire department to light the Christmas tree. Very nice set up for the kids!
My family and I love this place! Theres a great playground with modern structures and activities for little children and older kids as well. Theres an animal petting area as well as a zoo-like nature preserve with everything from foxes and bears to eagles and peacocks. Also theres trails to walk around the site. And during the holidays theres a huge guest center that they decorate elaborately and have volunteers in character costumes for the kids. Parking is only $5 and the rest is free. Its a great place for families
Such a neat clean place. They redid the parking lot so it looks even more neat and clean! Zoo is awesome, playground is great and between memorial and labor day you have to have a sticker.
Good place to take the kids, lots to see.Plenty of parking .
Great place to visit on your own or with the family! It will probably take you less than hour to see all the animals. The place is very clean and animals seemed to be taken care of. Definitely a most in your to do list.
Great place to take the kids. Our daughter loves to come here all the time.
I had never gone to the zoo and discovered that the animals had been rescued and are well cared for. A definite visit for all ages!
Its incredible so much to do so much to see
On a class trip the kids loved it
Took my 3 year old granddaughter there and she really enjoyed it nice activity to do on a beautiful day.
The animal part is fun but we went for the Christmas light show and it was very disappointing. Not worth the trip in my opinion
Always love bringing the kids here. We had a tour guide this time. It was great to learn more about where the animals came from and how they are cared for.
Going up the hill is fun
I come here a few times a year with my family when we just need to take a break from being in the city. This park is huge and the area is very quiet and peaceful. Theres a very long walking trail, a large gazebo with tables which is perfect for group BBQs or other gatherings, some playgrounds, and excercise equipment. Yes, this place has exercise machines along the walking trail. Of course its nothing that requires electricity, but it works and is much cheaper than a gym membership. My favorite part is the petting zoo. You can buy animal food for a quarter and feed llamas, sheep, goats, etc.
Free, awesome zoo, well kept. Wonderful place to spend a day
The Town of Brookhaven Holtsville Ecology Site is really a great place. Admission is free and you get to explore a wide variety of animals. There is also a childrens park adjacent to the preserve and a Town-operated swimming pool (very large) which has a small admission fee. Many schools bring their students here for field trips and summer camps are held at this location as well. You can ask staff about their educational programs too which are held during the summer.
Nice place to go locally to see rescued animals, it is a rescue facility and has no real frills, some complain about the food left out for predatory animals like hawks (rodents and such) its fine, when my son has noticed, it is gently explained educationally, hawks/eagles/owls eat rodents, sharks eat fish, etc. Seasonally there is an ice cream man in the parking lot, a playground area, walking path with workout circuit and then the town pool is on the same property so you could spend the whole day there. There are beautiful covered areas however, signs indicate use by permit only. I imagine they mean if you want to set up a party or something to guarantee your space, but, the spaces are pleasant to sit and enjoy a picnic, your ice cream or just each other especially during nap time.
Love this place....although it was closed for maintenance when we went there today
They had a whole bunch of animals. All you pay is parking price of $5. Icecream truck was there the whole time so my daughter was ecstatic. Good place to go on weekends if you live close by or even weekdays during the summer with kids.
Clean and well taken care of grounds. Affordable way to spend a day with family learning and enjoying the pool.
Beautiful well maintained park, walking trail and zoo. Great place to bring the family locally and for an inexpensive day.
Loved the animals, just feel bad that some are alone. So hope one day they can go free.
Inexpensive, quick place to go with little ones!
A GREAT PLACE TO VISIT! MAMY DIFFERENT ANIMALS & A GREAT WALKING TRAIL.
A great place to take your family, like a mini zoo good for small kids who wouldnt be able to tolerate going to a big zoo.
The Ecology site is a great family friendly place to go. There are so many animals to see and lots of things to do. Great place to spend a day with nature.
Cute place. Zoo is fun. Has town pool, picnic/bbq areas, restrooms and more.
Amazing little zoo. Such a sweet LI gem. Is it the Bronx Zoo? No but its right here on LI.
Great place for kids. Animals & park
A wide variety of animals. Very kid friendly.
Clean area to see animals and a nice place to eat lunch and use the playground
Its a great place to take children, a great place to jog, to do a little workout and they give out free mulch and fertilizer.
Love this place. Usually on the walking path but the zoo is exceptional.
This place is great for what it is, a small conservation site with a nice short walk thru to see some various animals. $5 for parking, or $15 for a yearly pass for parking at various other local parks and beaches (for Brookhaven Town residents). It was fairly hot the last time I went and it was an enjoyable enough experience. I did feel bad for some of the animals there, mainly the bear and the artic fox. I also noticed a lack of water for the animals on such a hot day, but perhaps it was just located where I couldnt see it. I will say, theres a nice fancy sprinkler in the back watering the flowers near the emus. Perhaps you could get a few more of those for the really hot days, Im sure the other animals would enjoy that too, the emus sure seemed to.
The kids love it. $5 parking during the season, free during the colder weather
Nice place
Fun place to take the kids. The bears are put away at 2pm. Nice playground.
Love walking around the big track and love to see the animals. Great place for kid and your girl friend to take a walk around
A great zoo and park. Also a nice trail around
A great place to bring your kids there are so many things to do between the zoo, greenhouse, and walk areas. There are also the park and picnic area.
Beautiful place. Family friendly

Bring my 2 kids all the time. They love it!
Everyone come here in the spring/summer time. Its the greatest place to be. Literally. From the Small Petting Zoo, to the playground, to the pools, to the cookouts - an overall GREAT family past time.•Con... the little pay needed to enter.Need a better pool to people ratio.BathroomsParking•Pro.. the pass is good for the whole day(say you were to leave and come back because you went to the store)Playground area, and petting zoo for the kidsLocalOpen for PublicWalking Trail
Great local place for seeing animals and a great place to play Pokémon Go and ingress. Dont forget to drop a dollar in the donation box to help feed the bears!
Small, pleasant, animals look well taken care of.
I went here a lot growing up. We would see the animals and go for a walk on the mile, but have visited it a lot less nowadays. Everytime I go, the bears look like they are going crazy from being locked up. They just pace back and forth a section near the fence and its sad to watch. I noticed since they made it so you have to pay to get in they have added a lot of new exercise equipment along the walking trail, but I hope the majority of that money is going toward the animals.
Great place to take the kids
Great little zoo that is free. Very clean and well kept. Very kid friendly.
Was fun for the kids just needs a little better viewing of the animals
Great place to visit.
