The Felt Estate is an absolute dream venue. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to get married there! I was really drawn to the multiple spaces across the estate which allow for countless options when it comes to staging your event. We opted to get married in front of the chapel (stunning!), have cocktail hour up by the mansion, dinner in the tent, and back up by the mansion for dancing. It flowed so well and our guests loved getting to explore the estate throughout the evening. The true gem of the Felt, though, is getting to work with Derrick and Holden. They are pros—there is no question they cannot answer. They guided us through changing COVID regulations proactively and with such kindness. On the big day, they were present to help but also hung back and just let us and our loved ones enjoy a perfect day. I would do it again 100 times if I could!!
My favorite park I’ve been going to for years! If you park at the first road you may have to pay a park fee if you don’t have the park pass on your license plate, but this way has bathrooms and picnic tables. If you keep going down the road you can park in the Felt Mansion parking lot but it does have a gravel parking lot and no rest rooms. This park has a beach when you follow the signs that show you the way. It also has frisbee golf at the Felt Mansion, a cute church by the parking lot, and great trees to hammock on. In the winter the hills in the frisbee golf area are great for sledding! They also have the Mansion open to tours or you can rent it for events or for a stay. That means it can be pretty packed in this parking lot most days. The beach is pretty big and allows you to be away from others if you would like, but the park doesn’t have a area to clean sand off after. There are tails of the melon heads haunting these grounds. But I myself have walked around a bunch of times even at night and never saw or heard anything. I can’t say for sure if the Mansion is since I have never been on a tour to see if there is anything spooky going on in there. Years back when I went they still had the jail still there and it was abandoned. Since then they have torn it down. See for yourself all the great activities this amazing park has to offer!
Very disappointed with my experience here in October 2020. Rented the mansion overnight 3p-10a for roughly $1200. Signs posted saying closed to private event but random strangers were walking the grounds and peering into the windows staring at my friends and family who were the guests. I even had a group of people taking pictures ask me to move out of their shot to which we responded that they were trespassing on a private gathering and they still didnt leave.Beyond that, the building and grounds are in a level of disrepair that very likely falls outside of legally acceptable for a venue that rents out to guests, especially one that is owned publicly. The cement railing on the rear patio was deteriorated to the point that if you sat on or leaned against it, it would have fallen in and collapsed. There was a water fountain broken and just leaking everywhere into the basement and ground floor of the carriage house. Several window latches do not work and are missing fasteners. The front entryway cement is literally crumbled to gravel and theyve crudely glued down a rug over top of it. The wood trimmed windows are rotted out.Lastly, they recommend a medium to enhance your overnight experience as the mansion is supposed to be haunted. Do not pay for this service. Somehow this person has found a way to significantly overvalue her time and amounts to little more than a third-rate tour guide to the house. You can learn more about the mansion and its history in 30 seconds of scanning a Google search result than in an hour with a feckless hack like the medium we hired.
Honestly probably fun to stay at or have a wedding at, but as far as tours go, it really wasn’t worth it. No info about the individual rooms, just one sign in the first room, no brochures, and I’m assuming no original furniture or anything since you can stay there. Cool old house but not really worth walking through as a tour.
The Felt Mansion made our wedding dreams come true. It was such a unique space, our guests loved exploring during our cocktail hour. If you want to have a dreamy, beautiful, jaw dropping wedding this is your venue. We had our ceremony on the steps of the cute little chapel on the grounds and moved from there right to cocktail hour spread out on the two patios of the main house. Our reception was held in the permanent tent on the back lawn. They recently laid concrete inside the tent and it made a world of difference. It looks so clean, light and sharp, its the perfect canvas for any kind of creative decor you can dream up. We couldnt be happier with our experience with the staff at the mansion. We planned our wedding from Denver, and they were quick to answer any questions that came up along the way and helped us figure out a lot of logistics. We couldnt be happier that we chose this for our venue, it was truly unforgettable!
Great place for Weddings, disk golf, and trail hiking.
The free bluegrass concert was very enjoyable ◇ They had just one food truck to feed all of the hungry people and it appeared there were only two people running it. The Two Scotts BBQ was on the salty side and the line was long, making the wait even longer. The beer line was running very well. They brought enough volunteers to help with that. It was a beautiful evening and there was handicap parking as well.
This place is BEAUTIFUL! We had our wedding reception here and everybody loved it! The ONLY complaint, (and why it didnt get 5 stars) was the ballroom is on the 3rd floor and our elderly guests had a hard time walking up and down several flights of stairs. Wish there was a way to add an elevator somewhere. Expect to pay a small fortune but well worth every penny as the majority goes towards continuous upkeep and ongoing restoration projects!
Neat place to see! Especially after a round of disk golf!
Beautiful location, awesome staff
Great Michigan Mansion now owned by the State. Wish they had some tours on weekends, especially on Sunday afternoons. But tours are top notch.
This is a hidden Gem. My wife and I got married here in the summer and came back to host a Halloween murder mystery party. We had such great experiences here. The staff are always beyond helpful, the house and grounds are spectacular. I would recommend this to everyone. It is a great place for a walk as well.
I was at the Holloween show and tour last two years and Shadow Spirit always keeps it real, and fun! Cant wait for this year! I think without them its pricy. They make you feel like you have been living there yourself. Love the history and the interaction!!! Cant wait!!!
Fun hiking and disc golf course
We were here for a geocache. This is a really cool historical place!
Five stars say it all. Our daughters wedding was August 3, 2019 and The Felt Estate was a dream venue. Its a special spot.
I enjoy walking through museum estates and this one did not disappoint. You actually get to walk through the rooms, not just look in at the door.
Using this place as our wedding venue next year! Took a tour and fell in love instantly!
Pleasant spirits
Shot a wedding there and was blown away. Totally beautiful venue. I recommend it to people all the time. 5 out of 5. =)
Such a lovely house and property! looks like there’s also dune access trails on the land? dope!
Cool place differently worth checking out.
This is a great thing to do in Saugatuck. Its interior is beautiful and it can teach you some history of the place. There are also plenty of walking trails that lead you to the beach in front of the house. The staff are always friendly.
Cool spot to visit. Love the trails in this area.
Nice place for a wedding.
Beautiful old mansion that has been totally restored. It is now open for tours during the Christmas season each year. It is also used for events and weddings. Check it out you wont be sorry.
Wonderful Venue for Wedding.... Wonderful Mansion.... Wonderful Overnight Rooms......
Beautiful mansion. Always being worked on and restored. This place has some amazing history! Can be rented out for events. Also can arrange guided tours or haunted tours around Halloween. If you like local history check this place out!
Beautiful historic building. The self guided tour was a nice little stop on our family vacation, even the teenage boys found the house and craftsmanship amazing.
Beautiful venue. Extreme heat(94) kept us from staying longer. Air in the estate worked great. But it is a long climb for older persons to make the journey to the estate for a restroom if the event is down below.
A great place to encounter spirits
Lovely trails to Lake Michigan and Free Disk golfing!
Unbelievable. Awesome. Perfect. The staff was very professional. Would highly recommend the felt for an occasion.
Beautiful place for weddings!
The property and buildings are amazing. World class disc golf as well. Oh yeah, dont let me forget to mention, the beach is right down a sandy path!
Very disappointed that someone forgot to update the website and so when we arrived from Grand Rapids, the place was closed. We also ran into another car load of people who had also arrived in hopes of seeing the mansion.
This is an old school mansion. Pretty cool to check out the rooms. However, the $15 fee per person is a bit steep in my opinion. Otherwise its a cool piece of history to check out.
Goregous place. Loved it. My friends got married here. Absolutely amazing wedding. Cute intimate chapel. Super awesome.
Awesome place. Its great for everything from a round of disc golf to creepy late night walks in the woods. Warning, the melon heads are real.
Beautiful area to walk or run. lots of parking. Be sure to follow road all the way back to mansion grounds.
Well worth a day of shooting scenic spots! This mansion is an extraordinary experience! Magnificently restored inside and out!
