The hike was hard and rewarding. Absolutely worth it.Difficulty: moderate-hard ( it’s a solid moderate hike, until you pass the “saddle” area, and then it gets tough, because you need to physically climb- use your hands to go up the rock cliffs and then go down.)The view is spectacular the whole time and the way down. I suggest taking your time. You can do this hike in 5 exhausting hours, or spend 8 hours to waddle up and down with relaxing breaks. I’m a relatively fit individual and we made it up in 3 hrs and took us about 1.5 hrs to run down. (Spent about .5 hrs at the summit just snacking with the view)

This is more a review of the hike itself. IT WAS AMAZING.Very important though: this hike is not easy. It’s around 7 miles, there and back, and you gain around 4,000 feet. Not for the faint of heart. For sure leave early, at least by 5am, or you’ll be cooking and hating your life, because there is no shade on the way back down. The views at the top were magnificent... definitely worth the challenging hike. Highly recommend! But be ready, and bring a lot of water and snacks.

Coming from a place that doesnt have a lot of mountains or even elevation change for that matter (Kansas), I thought it was challenging. The first couple miles were pretty straight forward but the last mile and a half or so, particularly the last half mile, are where the men are separated from the boys, if you will. Totally worth it to go all the way to the top.

Best trail ever! steep most of the up and a really good workout! My brother forgot to pack water! But we made it to the saddle and went back down! It has a beautiful view and you can see the mountain range behind mount Olympus! The whole valley! Next time I hike it I’ll make sure to grab more water!

Beautiful hike. We only went up about 2.5 miles before it got icy and snowy and without extra gear, we werent comfortable continuing. I would, at the very least, bring hiking poles if youre going in winter. Perfect hike to get out of the SLC inversion smog though. Will definitely be doing this hike again come spring time!

Review №33

I had a fantastic hike up this trail! Bring a lot of water as you can see there isnt a lot of shade and even when a cloud looks like its about to rain, that cloud is just teasing you.In some places, the trail can be hard to find. I noticed that it mostly split in two but would then join back one. Generally, one bit was a bit more gentle for prairie folk like me that call a speed bump a hill. I made it 2/3 of the way and lost the trail. It is a tough trail but just be smart. I went super slow and took many breaks. It was fine. Next time I will reach the top!

Nice hike. Definitely on the more challenging side and not for children. As others mentioned the first quarter miles is pretty steep but then is more manageable. There is toad noise for probably the first half mile but after that it quiets down as you get further up the mountain. On the way down at dusk we saw a good sized tarantula on the path. No Rattlers so all good. Its definitely a fun one if youve never done it before.

Fantastic hike. Beautiful scenery, wildflowers, a view of the whole valley. Only drawback is that you can hear the traffic the whole way up which detracts from the nature-y feel. I only went to the stream and took about 2 and a half hours round trip at a leisurely pace, but I did stop to eat some food I brought at the stream. The first quarter mile is killer but the pitch evens out after that

Great view from this trailhead, which is kind of a tease before heading out on the trail. Not a ton of parking available in the actual lot. Hot and steep in the Summer. Always will do Olympus at the first and last of the year as a fitness test. The last scramble and summit veiws are awesome. I do wish there was a restroom at the trailhead, but it is close enough to the city that it isnt a big deal.

What I like most about this hiking trail is how accessible it is. When many other trials still have snow on them, this one has melted, and its right off the highway. Climbing to the top of Mount Olympus is steep and strenuous, and there is not much shade nor water, so pack accordingly. The views of the city valley below are breathtaking.

This hike was awesome! It felt pretty long, as it was constantly uphill for a long time and there wasnt much shade. The trail was a bit confusing because there are some forks, but there are so many people on the trail that asking anyone will solve the problem. The hike was challenging but fun, especially at the top where its a rock scramble! That was really fun but also tiring. The view at the top is totally worth it and amazing though! There were snow-capped mountains as well as a view of Salt Lake City. I love this hike, but be prepared for a challenge!

Really easy to access. Really popular to go to do a hike. Summers are nice and warm, make sure to bring plenty of water. During the fall, the leaves change colors so make sure to bring a camera and take a lot of pictures. Also, its a good idea to have a friend or 2 when hiking.

Aa
Review №68

Personally, only experienced hikers should ever try to fully complete this trail. With extremely steep trails, slippy rocks, and if hiking in summer, only a small flow of water at 1/3 of the whole trail will be your only place to cool off, this is one of SLCs hardest trails.

Its a long hike, and a lot of incline, but doable. Took me 2.5 hours at a steady pace with 10 mins in breaks, but it was definitely a challenge. Highly recommended. Start early (before 7AM) so that youre not burning up in the sun. Hiking poles recommended.

Review №87

For people that love to hike and are looking to summit in Utah, this is a good place to start. You get a little bit of everything: beautiful trees, scenery, portions of steep grade, a scramble near the top and breath-taking views. If youre in great shape you can do it in 4 hours, but generally its a 5 to 6 hour hike for most people, so its definitely not a leisurely stroll. I take my kids when they are about 11 or 12...they whine a little, but they all want to go back. My wife doesnt want to go back...she think it was too difficult, but its a LOT easier than Twin Peaks, Lone Peak or Timpanogos (or even Pfeifferhorn) - with the satisfaction of reaching a summit.

Dont listen to the other hikers coming down the mountain. They all tell you youre almost there, and 4 hours later youve pulled off your brand new cowboy boots that you *knew* were a terrible idea to hike in, because your feet are covered in blisters, and youre maneuvering your way over giant boulders and small patches of snow in your soaking wet socks, asking God why mountains are so tall as the sunlight continues to disappear and you wonder if your boss will send a rescue party after you when you dont show up to work tomorrow- but youre replaceable and hes afraid of heights, so youll just die alone...The view was totally worth it.Take some water with you if youre new to this hiking thing, and dont do it in cowboy boots, with a barely charged phone and no flashlight.
