Beautiful park, great camping sites, great views of the lake from most spots and plenty of spots. The spots are large. There were some Halloween candy wrappers on the sites and some trash in the fire pits, but not to bad. There must be a military base nearby because occasionally you can hear helicopters and some kind of gun fire or mortars. Not to bad or to late. You can hear road noise, but not bad. The lake is beautiful great for kayaking or paddle boarding. Lots of folks were fishing. We were here in November, not many motorboats and the campground wasn’t full even on the weekend. Verizon cell service 3 bars.
Paul B Johnson State Park is a great place to slow down and enjoy the natural beauty of South Mississippi. There is an entrance fee of $4. per vehicle, up to 6 people. The lake is large enough to have swimming areas, boating areas and fishing areas. There are plenty of pine and oak trees providing shade and quite a few picnic tables to enjoy a leisurely lunch. Theres even a small playground for children and the Splash Pad, a water playground, which is an extra fee.I just enjoy watching the birds and being outside, and occasionally fishing or hiking.A hiking trail is kept clear and theres a short hike option that most people can likely navigate. Over the years, Ive really enjoyed the quiet serenity of these deeply wooded trails.Covered pavilions can be rented and theres an air-conditioned Visitors Center with many amenities.Lots of people come by for the disc golf.Theres also cabins that can be rented and many campsites, full hook-up as well as primitive, that are often filled well in advance.
Such a huge park! Plenty of camping sites, RVs, cabins and tents. Nature trail was nice but early morning very full of large spiders, Thats nature for you. Lake is beautiful and they have tons of picnic tables and small pavilions. They also have Disc Golf with some challenging targets. Great for a weekend or just the day. Family fun for all.
Very family friendly and pet friendly. Nice bath houses throughout w/laundry facilities. Tons of outdoor activities and walking trails in the woods. Great getaway for you and your family.
Great place for a family!! We spent the day here enjoying the lake, fishing, and walking the grounds. The kids had a blast swimming in the roped off section. You can get your fishing license on grounds. Wish it wasnt so expensive to use the splash pad... We opted not to do that because of the price. The cabins by the lake are really cute. We plan on returning to stay in one soon!
Libby is AWESOME!! She LOVES her job and you can tell. We come back often and she is one reason why
Beautiful park! Decent covered picnic pavilions (use by reservation). Ample parking but poor surfaces. Well maintained bathrooms- but no paved pathways from parking to aid accessibility.
Nice park. The sites were space far enough away, but no privacy between them. One site near us in a tent had 4 dogs one barked all the time .
First I love the peaceful environment. Second plenty of air conditioning. What not so great is the lack of incomplete towel set. Wait.... there are incomplete set of cooking pots, only one skillet, no can opener, and what I really need to let you know is that there are no security chain on the door. Your child could get out, you have to open the door when theres a knock, and there were a few bugs(roaches) . We bought some Raid. This was once a wonderful place. Its going down. I pray that they get it back up. No real fishing. To many boats in the water. Speed boats. You may live this place because it still has some peaceful things to do hear.
The cabins were clean but need some updating. Couldnt find a working can opener between three cabins. If you want to doAny cooking.... Make sure you bring everything to accomplish that goal. We enjoyed the stay
Primitive camping review....Nice secluded spots, a little crowded on entry, bathhouse a good ways from primitive camping, and hot water isnt working in shower. Great value for the price. Swimming area nearest to primitive area could use a little cleaning or at least cut grass.Enjoyed our stay, would give 5 stars if not for hot water and swimming area.A solid 4 stars for me folks.
Friendly, helpful Staff. Arrived after dark, got turned around inside the park. Heather (Assistant Manager) found us and got us to our spot. A very pleasant evening of camping then followed. Thank You, Heather.
We had a beautiful waterfront site. Arrived during the week and stayed until the weekend, when the park began to fill. Many guests were locals who camped for the weekend to enjoy water sports. Surprising for a park this size and a large building that housed the office to check in, there was no store and no option to purchase any thing to remember the park by. Further, there is no wifi and no cable and Verizon for us was weak. Wifi and cable were not important, but a park this size that charges what they do, you would expect more. If you leave the park and head North on the main road you go to Hattiesburg. Local Walmart that is very outdated and some eateries. If you go South, you go to Wiggins about 35miles and many more options, super Walmart, nicer restaurants, etc. We camped at Paul B. Johnson State Park in a Travel Trailer.
Absolutely beautiful scenery. Great people wonderful setting for family fun.
Had a great weekend with the family. Couldnt have had a better time.
It is a very beautiful and amazing place. We stayed for 3 days in a cabin and took our boat out.We also was in the water quite a bit swimming. But when we were leaving the park we saw an alligator in the water where the water comes across the road!! I really did like the park but after seeing the alligator and knowing that there probably is more than just the one we saw I really dont think that we will ever be going back!! That really scared me thinking of all the time we spent in the water!!
We stay for two nights in the cabin during the middle of the week and had some couples time. The cabins have two bedrooms, kitchen and small living room. Bring food, a few utensils and food. There is a skillet, pot, plates and glasses. There are lots of wildlife ducks and geese that will come up and eat out of your hands.Great StayBarry R Jones JrMelanie Mahaffey Jones
Beautiful park, great RV and primitive camping sites.
Beautiful place to hang out and enjoy nature. I enjoy playing some of the disc golf baskets as well. We made friends with some geese, ducks and even a turtle.
Beautiful, peaceful little park. Employees and other campers were very friendly, lots of wildlife.... Unfortunately, no fish to be had by anyone fishing. We were there during the week and campers were minimal until Thursday-then as expected, the traffic flowed in. Sites in back are very spacious and green. Pull in spaces up by office are very close together. Each camping loop had a little pier at its lake access point. I have it 4 instead of 5 stars because showers closest to the new back area are in need of updating. They are old and worn, this appear dirty. The shower I used had a blocked drain and almost immediately I was standing in drain water. Also, unlike other places weve stayed ot is one big open area. there is no separate floor area that stays somewhat dry, no hooks to hang anything on-not very functional.
Absolutely amazing park! Will definitely be going back. Had a spot right on the lake. Staff was really nice and park was clean. Spots are large and paved. Overall a great place.
Beautiful park, well maintained. Some lovely rv/travel trailer sites right by the shoreline.
This a a beautiful park with rv utilities at each site.
Place is beautiful and it has everything. Even a splash pad for the kids
Recently attended a family reunion at the park. The park is large and plenty of spots to cookout, camp or just hangout. The lake is a really nice size and had room for plenty of skiers. The park was well maintained and clean. If I lived closer I’d definitely visit again!
Enjoyed our stop over here. It was a nice park. We stayed in the pull through sites which are a little tight but it worked for us as we were just passing through on our way to Destin.
Nice place to take the kids on a hot day. The public restrooms could use some attention.
My Wife and I spent 5 nights here at the end of Feb. 2020. The campground loops are well laid out. The roads and park pads are in OK condition but could use some reconditioning/patching. We camped on site 78 and it has a large burled oak on the drivers side with quite a slope to step down onto from the passenger side doorway. We would try and stay on sites 17, 18, or 20 on our return. The bathrooms are clean with heat and plenty of hot water. We did not use laundry machines ($1.50 ea) but they were in good working order and clean. The campground office has a a game room with a nice pool table. Hattiesburg is only 15 miles away. We really enjoyed our stay and will return next year.
Great lake fun park frindly staff ok cabins
We enjoyed our stay and would go back again.
If you go to fish its not good!!! We had jetskis and big boats coming by all day making wakes in no wake zones and had people intentionally try and make big wakes when they saw us on our kayaks fishing
Love Paul B. Been going here my entire life. Its home to me.
This park is HUGE. Its main purpose is for a weekend getaway. They have tons of cabins & RV parking. We only visited to check it out. I had no idea there was a disc golf course here. Not much to do if youre just a visitor. I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 b/c the trails were quite short. Still beautiful.
Such a beautiful Mississippi State Park, very clean and managed very well, the park ranger was super friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back to this campground in the future!
After a nightmare of a week, we spent 3 days in a cabin on the lake and it was so beautiful and relaxing that I didnt want to leave. Simply amazing. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The only suggestion I can make is perhaps some spider repellent around the door frames.
We will camp here again. Pull throughs for overnight stops were easy with water and electricity. Camping sites on lake are nice.
I love this park well kept family safe great rest room . I go every other day !!!
Nice state park. Easy hiking trails. Fun splash zone. Great for the family.
Quaint and not busy. Camp sitescare relatively clean and spread out in the loops.
Wonderful. For all ages. Fish off the bank or with a boat. Swimming and camping along with picnic tables and grills.
Its amazing, vast greenay and open space, The lake is really beautiful. its in Geiger Lake Rd, Hattiesburg, MS . People can have fish catching experiences and board riding here.
1st time there. Really enjoyed the park.
Great park. Access to a lot of things. Camping, fishing, cabins and a large lake are on the property. Security is good, lots of room, tables, restrooms and lots to see. $4 entrace fee to get in.
This park is awesome! The lake is great for fishing or water sports. Very beautiful views especially at sunrise, the lake is very awesome, Gods handiwork!!
Great place if you want some peaceful time alone or with family.
Great Scenery - basic amenities. Cheap entrance fee (I think its $4) and allows leashed dogs. We bring our dog on off hours to swim in the little lake.Has a path around the entire small lake to bike/walk around. Appears there is camping available, however, we have not camped there only day trips.
It is a nice place to fish and walk the dogs.We had to make sure we werent anywhere near the cabins with the dogs, but we found a beautiful place by the little dam. We were out of town, and visited the park quite often. We had fun fishing both sides of the dam. Topwater frogs, poppers, and whopper ploppers worked best for us at this time (just about all of June). You have to either use strong test, or just be careful. We lost a couple jigs/ lures in the lily pads. Frogs on top of the lily pads were the best. I tried a ned rig on the outside of the lily pads, and didnt even get a bite. Plus, the algea is super thick on the bottom, also.It is properly surveilled. We had a park ranger or police officer driving around at all times. Didnt have to worry about people parking near us, like they do in other places, doing all kinds of crazy things.Only 4 stars because there was not a bathroom near where we were. I have a bad knee and cant walk very far. The closest bathroom was up the hill on the other side of the dam which water overflows into, so walking in tennis shoes is a DONT. You have to drive to it. Pretty inconvenient when there is a line waiting to get across on both sides.
We come for Easter most every year, my girls love it. This year we camped in the fall and stayed in a cabin. Never disappointed, We love this place.
Kids love it and its a great place to swim plus lots of fish tho sometimes those fish bite while ur swimming.
Great lake. More of an RV park. Stayed in primitive camping. Really good time. Excellent lake for kayaking, and boating. Didnt fish, but I will go back to.
Great place that is well-kept. The bath houses are clean daily and they have a nice size Frisbee Golf Course.
What a great place! Beautiful lake and friendly people. Will return.
Great place to go camping for the weekend. Shower houses were clean.
Famous do no reason. too many weeds, and not enough bites
Beautiful spot for a night, wished we would of had more time to explore.
Nice campground..big sites with fire pits(most), water, sewer and electricity...easy to get to and nice lake and splash pad for kiddies. Frisbee golf is fun too.
Excellent kept park. Down at the fishing pier Mr.Moose caught a fish.
Great weekend getaway. Dont forget to browse the 49 flea market.
Awesome splash pad for the kiddies!
Give the bath houses an overhall
Great place for family and all to enjoy the beauty of nature...
Beautiful and peaceful place.Myself and my quilt group use this as a quilt retreat every year. The staff is very accommodating. We love Libby. Shes very knowledgeable and can help in so many ways. Thanks to the staff we love coming.
Pros: Nice, well kept / clean park. The playgrounds were nice, everyone was very friendly, the lake was a beautiful setting. It was a decent drive from New Orleans for a quick 3-day weekend getaway. Disc golf course was a hit with our friends.Cons: The womens bathhouse needed work as the showers were constantly running which made everything damp and steamy (mirrors, floors, counters). We camped on sites 30, 32, and 34 which were marked as full shade on the booking website. That was completely false and made for difficult naps for my two young kids. We were also butted up against the main road which I did not realize when booking. The wind direction did cause us to hear the interstate.Other than the actual campsite location we had, it was a good, family oriented park. Next time, Ill be sure to grab a different site or go to primitive which was well shaded. We will visit again primarily because its a nice park for a quick getaway to the outdoors which is what we were looking for.
We love Paul B. Johnson. The campground is clean and spots are level.
Awesome time, nice and clean.
This was great park for our week long stay. Plenty of sites right on lake and several trails to walk with dogs. Park was nearly empty on our weekday arrival but by Friday afternoon was crowded and busy. Sunday afternoon things quieted again...proximity to Hattiesburg makes it a weekend escape spot for locals. Spots had good space and views...only recommendation would be to avoid pull throughs. They are essentually zero lot line spaces and I saw a few rigs whose awnings met the neighbors slides. Outdoor living space at those slips is at the front or rear of your rig.
Great use of time with the family.
Beautiful lake with lots to do.
Great area we enjoy camping here clean and everyone who works there is friendly with great service
Love this place
Very nice park and beautiful lake. It was $4 for one vehicle. Lots of restrooms, a few playgrounds, camping, spraygrounds, picnic tables etc. The camp office was air conditioned with restrooms, a sitting area and pool table and video games. We stopped and walk around to get some fresh air on our trip to Shreveport. A nice diversion. You can take the back entrance to get back on the Highway.
This is a beautiful place!!!! It’s family friendly and the front office personnel was really nice and helpful. This was our first visit and we loved it!!! However the bath houses are AWFUL!!! Half of the showers didn’t work and some stalls didn’t have hooks so you had to throw all of your clothes over the door. The showers fill up with water. They are also not cleaned on a daily basis. They need to hire a plumber and invest in a power washer for the bathrooms and bath houses. I would have given it a 5 star rating if it wasn’t for the bath houses.
Me and my children and other family came out here for our vacation of the Summer and spent 5 days and 4 nights having so much fun great swimming hole nice nature trail accessible bathrooms and showers even has a washer and dryer if you need it! He will definitely be back
The park is right on the lake lots of trees building place to go and cool off I love it.
Beautiful park and campground.
Love this place! Great company, fun activities
Paul B is one of my families favorite campgrounds. Lots of great features including the cabins on the lake, several beach like swimming areas, splash pad, disc golf, fishing, and waterskiing. At only $3 to visit for the day( plus an extra fee to use the splash pad) its a great place to bring the family.
Love going here for the fireworks.. never a disappointment!
A beautiful park with room for big rigs. I walked and took many different pics. The road in is very narrow. Go slow.
Great place Right now with the pandemic going on there was very few people there.
I always go there to visit I love it there has fishing, splash pad, swimming, camping, game room and laundry area, etc.
Had a full service site by the lake. Beautiful view and everyone was friendly.
Had an amazing time
Nice park with camping, cabins, boating, fishing, and nature trails.
This was an amazing place to enjoy the most beautiful scenery in South Mississippi. Watching the sunrise and sunset at this location was breathtaking. If you like to hike, camp, swim, boat, fish, feed the geese, play disk golf or just soak up some sun and enjoy the view, you will not be disappointed. This will be our routine camping spot for the foreseeable future.
This is a nice unique park. I like that there are pull-through RV pads with full hookup and 50 amp service.
Beautiful camping on the lake. Very quite and well kept. Hardly a bad site in the park.
Beautiful and a lot of fun for the kids!
Great place to kick back and relax with family and friends. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
We were in a pull through site on the main road. These sites are to close together. There isnt room to sit outside in front of your camper. Next time we go it will be a site off the main road.Staff was friendly and helpful. Beautiful lake, with nice splash pad, good play ground. And plenty of space for children to ride bikes.
Nice state park located south of Hattiesburg on a beautiful lake!
If you see a negetivite rating for this place, that person just wasnt going to be happy anywhere that day. Its a very decent park, simple and tranquil. The rest is up to the visitor. Nice lake, clean, kid and family friendly, pet friendly, rated PG.... Being snacks and drinks and have fun type of place!
Beautiful, peaceful park. Love the camp sites on the lake.
Quiet and peaceful. Definitely gonna camp here again
