My husband and I had the most amazing and relaxing weekend at Garth Woodside Mansion. We stayed in the Dowager House and were able to bring our puppy along, too. Each morning we woke up to a delicious breakfast that was so clearly made with love. The house itself and the cottages and property around it are gorgeous. I felt so at home here I felt sad to leave. I can’t say enough good things about this gem of a place. If you’re in Hannibal, Missouri you absolutely MUST stay here.
They have nicely maintained artefacts and furniture from 18th century, its a paradise for history/ architecture/ art lovers. Inn keepers John and Julie are sweet and friendly and they make you feel home. They offer great homemade breakfast (including homemade butter!!). Oh and the best part is the outdoor hot tub (which was a bliss in gloomy, windy 45°F outside).Would definitely love to visit again..
Mark Twain slept here. And so did I, in the very same room. For me, that was the highlight, but there are many other things to like about Garth Woodside Mansion. The historic architecture. The period-correct furnishings. The sprawling grounds. The unexpected and entertaining animals. The friendly couple who runs it, who bend over backwards to please their guests and who I really enjoyed talking to. Then again, Im a fan of airplanes, as well as Twain, so getting to chat with a former Air Force officer was also special. So, to summarize, the overall experience was memorable (in a good way) and many details of my stay will also stay with me. For example, attached is a detail of the vanity that has been in the Samuel Clemens Room since Samuel Clemens was there. This close-up shows how dovetail joints were made way back then: irregularly and by hand. Traveling to Garth is a little like traveling back in time, but without the disastrous consequences always associated with such fiction--even by Twain himself.
I would just like to thank Julie and John for such a wonderful get away at Garth Woodside Mansion. We stayed in the Samuel Clemons room, it was delightful. The room was beautifully and tastefully decorated, very clean and the water was wonderfully hot.The breakfast was very tasty and well presented. Julie and John made us feel as though we were visiting family. Thank you for making our stay such special event. Chuck and Joyce
We stayed at one of the wonderful cottages in this just off the beaten path B&B. We were jminutes away from downtown Hannibal yet felt like we were way out on the boonies. The main house was exquisite, the food spectacular and the grounds cozy. Our cottage was very private with our own hot tub and the grounds had adorable lamas and alpacas. It was a very quiet, relaxing trip and the owners made us feel very welcome. Thanks for making our trip so special.
My husband and I stayed here after our wedding for a quick getaway. We both love history and exploring small towns so this seemed like the perfect spot for us to stay somewhere historic and be close to downtown Hannibal! Julie and John, the owners, are amazing. They are both exceptionally knowledgeable about all there is to do in Hannibal and neighboring towns. They truly make you feel like you are one of the family! The mansion is exceptionally clean! The details are gorgeous! The food was fantastic! And you have to go meet Francis, the mini donkey! We truly enjoyed our stay here so much that we are going to make it a tradition to go back every year for our anniversary.
Wonderful place to stay! Julie and John are awesome people. Very friendly, quiet, and well kept property. Breakfeast was excellent too. The location is very handy to all the things to see in Hannibal. Will definitely go back!
Great find! We were so happy with all the welcome touches that John and Julie provided us when we choose their B&B. They delivered all that they promised on their website and more importantly, we were happily surprised with the grounds and the feeling of timelessness while at Garth Woodside Inn. We highly recommend it! We plan on going back at the first chance we get. Book your nights, you will be pleased you did!
We stayed 2 nights in this wonderful cottage and John and Julie were such fabulous hosts. Everything was so perfect...the cottage was like a spa including the hot tub, huge walk in shower and jetted tub..and they delivered breakfast each morning and the presentation was amazing. I never do ratings on anywhere I stay but this place deserved it!
My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary here in the John Garth room. We enjoyed the in suite jetted tub and privacy in the large home(mansion). John and Julie were excellent hosts. They shared the history, interesting local information and recommendations for visiting the area. Our two night stay included wonderful breakfasts served with delicious coffee, Garth Juice, and service. I think this B&B could meet the needs of many generations...this would be a great venue for family reunions!
Julie and John were the perfect hosts during our visit at the Garth Woodside Mansion. We stayed in the Dowager cottage that offered a soft cozy bed and outside hot tub. It was spacious, clean and the breakfast was homemade and delicious! We highly recommend this country retreat!
My friend and I stayed here as part of a girls weekend getaway. We had our eyes set on a cute B&B to relax for the weekend, but the Garth Woodside Mansion far exceeded those expectations!! We decided on a private cottage where we were spoiled with amazingly comfortable sheets, a luxurious hot tub, a lot of amenities, and (my favorite) a heated towel rack. As if that wasn’t enough, we were treated to a delicious breakfast every morning of our stay. The homemade red raspberry butter was to die for. Breakfast was always completed with a view of flowers and llamas. It was like a scene from a movie. What really made our stay incredible was the hospitality of the owners- kind, genuine people who made our days a little brighter. I would wholeheartedly recommend a stay here!
We celebrated our 25th anniversary here and the stay was almost perfect. Covid postponed our tour of Europe but we stayed in our state and discovered a hidden gem in Garth Mansion. Be sure not to leave anything behind!
The Garth Mansion is so beautiful. We truly enjoyed the hospitality from John and Julie. This place is truly a site to behold!! We had the entire 2nd floor to ourselves while we were there. Very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was great..I still cant remember what John made us for breakfast but it was so good. LolMy wife and I smiled and laughed on the way back to Chicago Julie was just so much fun. This is a place you should consider staying! Perhaps go to relax and grab some good laughs with Julie and appreciate the rich history of Garth Mansion. Well see you guys again soon thank you so much.!
We just returned from a short getaway at the Garth Woodside Mansion. We stayed in the Dowager House private cabin. It was a great stay. The house is lovely, full of numerous antiques. There’s so much history on display. Our cabin was so private. We had our own hot tub, huge walk-in shower with body jets, and a large jacuzzi tub. The fireplace in the bathroom is a nice touch. My husband also loved the large stone fireplace in the bedroom on the chilly mornings.Breakfast was delivered each morning and set up for us. I love the private interior door, which allows us to stay in our PJs. When breakfast has been set up, they flip a switch letting you know, and they quietly leave. The place made a perfect 10th anniversary romantic getaway. It also didn’t hurt that Julie gave us a batch of hot from the oven oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for the road .
We stayed the weekend in the Sam Clemens room. John and Julie are very hospitable. They made our visit great from when we first pulled up to our last morning. Breakfast was served promptly at 8:30. It was delicious. Julie had a 4 course spread both days. Fresh food and ingredients. Room was very clean and they were very open sharing things to do and places to go in town. One of our favorite places to go and we will be back!
We had an amazing time! Our cottage was beautiful and the food was top notch. We will definitely come back again.
This was my husbands and Is first stay in a bed a B & B together. It was our 15 year wedding anniversary and we could not of asked for a more warm and pleasant feeling the whole entire time! The innkeepers are fabulous. We could come and go and move around the house without feeling like intruders or as if we were being watched and the mansion....well it speaks for itsself!! We stayed 3 nights. Breakfast came with the room stay and all 3 mornings it was fabulous! Our friends that accompanied us enjoyed every minute as well. We have decided we will be coming back annually it was just that good! Kudos to John and Julie! We will be back!
Such a magical gem in Mark Twain land! From the chocolate chip cookies waiting upon arrival to the old-fashioned nightshirts hung ready for bed, the whole experience was a delight. The hosts were darling and my only regret is not spending more time in a rick chair on the porch.
This was a very neat place to stay. Price was reasonable and the mansion was very clean. It also had great amenities. I would recommend to anyone who is wanting to visit Hannibal MO.
This is the place to stay. Beautiful mansion. Clean indoors and out. Friendly hosts. Breakfast was amazing both days. Short ride to attractions. Highly recommend. We will be back!
This was, by far, the most awesome B&B I have ever stayed in. John and Julie were super nice. The rooms were very clean and well put together. They were receptive to dietary special request were needed. The tour prior to heading to our room was informative about the history of the mansion. The intern who was on premises was friendly. We will be back.
Great host they made us feel like family. My wife and I have been to many B and B and this was the most enjoyable experience that we have had
Reservations and check in were super easy, accommodations were great! House was beautiful, great food, staff was over the top great, clean and turned down our room every day and talking and getting to know the owners was probably the best part! Very easy to talk to, made you feel like friends or part of the family. Will definitely be recommending to others and will be visiting again!
Great place, great people! We went to the Garth Woodside Mansion for a weekend getaway. Let’s start by saying, The property is absolutely beautiful. You will feel like you traveled in time. We stayed in the Avies room. The room was immaculate and every attention to detail could be seen throughout the entire mansion. John and Julie were amazing hosts. They made sure we were well taken care of. They would hang out and sit with us and talk, making us feel welcomed and we had plenty of laughs. It was truly a magical time. The food was amazing, the presentation, the taste, every little attention to detail was there. We fell in love with Julie, when she found out I did not eat much fruit, she went out of her way to get me things I did like!’ She even got me to try blueberries and a half a strawberry !!!! ;-) we could not recommend this Bed and Breakfast enough. We will be sharing it with our friends and family but most importantly, they have gained regular customers with us. We have already started thinking about our next trip!! We would definitely recommend this place. If I could give it 100 stars, I would.
The mansion was everything and more than promised! It was a beautiful place to stay, both inside and out. The featherbed felt heavenly! The hostesses were lovely, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, complete with fresh fruit and juice. The llama was a special treat!
Hosts are very welcoming. Interesting off the beaten path locale. Delicious coffee and little extras very appreciated. Top quality sheets and towels very appreciated.lots of stairs. Enjoyed rocking on the front porch.
The house and grounds were amazing! The ladies who took care of us were fantastic, attentive and accommodating! Our room was gorgeous, our breakfasts amazing and delicious! will 100% be coming back!! Thank you so much for our wonderful weekend!
My wife and I recently stayed here in the Woodside room. The house and grounds are absolutely gorgeous, and both Julie and John are absolutely wonderful people and hosts. Many other hosts seem like they are just phoning it in or putting on an act, but you can tell these two are genuinely personable and enjoy what they do. Also, Julie, you now have me hooked on the peach pecan whiskey! Thank you both so much for making us feel welcome, and Angie and I truly enjoyed getting to know you two!
My husband and I recently spent the weekend at the mansion. We were searching for a quiet getaway and that’s just what we found. Our favorite take away was for sure the owners, they made our stay absolutely wonderful. We highly recommend it!
We had an amazing stay at the Garth Mansion. The owners, John and Julie are very welcoming, you will feel like you’re family by the time you leave. Hannibal is a nice quiet laid back town and Julie knows all the best places to eat etc. we are looking at our calendar to plan our return visit!
Place is fantastic. Stayed in a private cottage and it has everything. We will be back!
We stayed in a cottage. It was amazing. The staff and the owners are very kind and accommodating. We would love to come back in the winter for a nice weekend getaway. Beautiful place to have a wedding.
First, Ill say that if youll be in or near Hannibal, MO and want a place of some luxury, then this option is by far your best option. Here are the great things about the place:1. The house is stunning--the workmanship and the historic details are gorgeous.2. The substitute hosts we met were welcoming and warm.3. The interiors are clean. Here, though, are a few less great things:1. We were there in early August when Hannibal, MO was considered a hot spot in the Covid-19 pandemic--and my companion and I were the only ones wearing masks or attempting social distancing during the three day stay. The hosts greeted guests, served breakfasts, and checked individuals in and out without wearing masks. None of the other guests wore masks or were encouraged to do so.2. The grounds have been let go at least in the past year or so. The gardens needed weeding, there were bits of rusted hardware lying round, and wasps had built a nest on the grill on the deck of our cottage and on the front porch.3. The breakfasts were fine, but they were neither creative nor unique, not what one expects with a $300+ per night stay.Another note of interest is that the website suggests that children under 13 will not be on the grounds, but at one breakfast, a family with three young children was present, which altered the tenor of the place. Adults exchanged a metal knife rest (they are clever, animal-shaped rests) with one of the children, as he preferred a horse to a lion--again, this exchange occurred without any awareness of Covid, how its transmitted, or the then-current situation. Finally, I was asked to leave a tip for the B&B host, which seemed odd--not for the housekeeper, but for the host.If youre in Hannibal, stay there. On the other hand....
My husband & I spent our wedding anniversary at Garth last week. Everything was picture perfect! John & Julie couldnt have been more welcoming. The house is gorgeous & while quite grand, felt very comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing, too! We stayed in the Garth room which I highly recommend for the Jacuzzi tub alone! We will, for sure, be back.
This was the best stay I have had in a long time. They really did treat me like family!!
Wonderful getaway, beautiful Mansion, excellent hospitality and attention to detail. Breakfast was fantastic. We will definitely stop by again!
Wonderful setting. Wonderful owners. From reservations to first class breakfast to the enjoyment of the old fashioned rooms that were extremely well maintained, everything was a effortless process. I will be returning.it was exactly as advertised and even better.
Reservations and check in were super easy, accomodations were great! House was beautiful, great food, staff was over the top great, clean and turned down our room every day and talking and getting to know the owners was probably the best part! Very easy to talk to, made you feel like friends or part of the family. Will definitely be recommending to others and will be visitng again!
I have nothing but fantastic things to say about this B&B and the owners. My wife and I were planning a small courthouse wedding and one week out the CoMo courthouse cancelled all wedding services. In a panic, my wife and I reached out to numerous local venues, churches, restaurants, etc to try and find an alternate option. On a whim, she called Garth Woodside Mansion and had the pleasure of talking with Julie. Right from the get-go, Julie treated us like family and set plans in motion to host us a small elopement ceremony at their beautiful mansion. From start to finish everything was very smooth, and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner after the ceremony. I would highly recommend anyone from Mid-Mo to Central Illinois consider having their wedding here to enjoy a beautiful venue with great help from the owners. Thank you Julie!
The property and the owners are gems. If you want to experience luxury, history and great food, book your room now.
Jukie is a FABULOUS host! The food was amazing, cottage was adorable, and the grounds were beautiful. Cant wait to go back.
I would highly recommend the Garth Woodside Mansion. Both Julia and John were fabulous and very accommodating. The cabins were amazing and the attention to detail was on point. Well worth the money.
Send my Son and Daughter (in law) to this place over Labor Day weekend. They loved it and not im trying to fit in to my schedule
Very relaxing in a beautiful cottage. Going home to Illinois and stopped here just to relax. Really loved everything from the beautiful cottage, breakfast and Jacuzzi outside on the deck overlooking the pond. Cant wait to return.
Excellent stay!Very friendly owners - in fact, upon our arrival to the Garth Mansion the owner personally opened the front door and welcomed my wife and I in. He then gave us a tour around the mansion, (nothing like it)! Breakfast is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with a little entertainment as well! All in all, this was our first stay at a bed and breakfast and it was a great experience. Thanks John & Julie or should I say, Julie & John.
Had a girls getaway weekend with my daughters and booked the Woodside Trail Cottage. Everything was amazing! Highly, highly recommend
Gorgeous Victorian mansion with updated conveniences, yummy breakfasts and utterly charming hosts! We loved it!
Great house B and B with a fantastic gourmet breakfast.
Had a great time at Garth Mansion. This was our 7th time there and it’s absolutely fabulous each and every time. Julie and John are great hosts and the food is spectacular.
Such a romantic and relaxing stay! John and Julie were so accommodating and the food was delicious.
What a wonderful place to stay for business and pleasure (2nd trip here)! We stayed for a business trip and relaxed at the same time. The cottages are clean, and very comfortable. The owners are a delight to be around. They take care of any issue about your stay promptly. They are always courteous and make every effort to get to know you as a guest hoping to build a friendship. Breakfast is always delicious and Julie always encourages you to have more. We will be going back for sure! Pictured below are some of the friends we made that live on the property.
An awesome B & B
My brother Austin and his now wife Taylor got married here this past weekend. The mansion is gorgeous, scenery and landscaping is beautiful. Great place for a wedding. The cabins for the bridesmaids were spacious and very homey. Oh, and a heat towel rack, which was the best. ️ Julie was absolutely amazing. She didn’t let some rain get in the way of coordinating this wedding! The reception was so fun! I loved the bride and groom shoe questionnaire. So despite the rain. We all had a wonderful time!
My wife and I stayed for our 20th wedding anniversary. The cottage was great and the staff left us alone while continually catering to our needs like unseen elves. This was a great place to get away, unwind and enjoy life.
My wife and I were traveling from Colorado to Ohio. My wife found this place as a point of interest along our way. The building, owners, grounds, food and accommodations far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in one of the cottages on the grounds near the llama enclosure. The cottage was pristine, with ample space and private hot tub. The main mansion is beautiful and maintained with so much care and attention to detail. While searching for dog friendly hotels our search was very limited, and those we had found we underwhelming, until we found this gem. We can not recommend enough!
Interesting home. Era authentic. Entertaining helpful hosts. My husband was not feeling great and Julie got him some special soothing tea. Rooms are private. Lovely hospitality. Would like to stay late spring or earlier in the summer to see their lovely gardens at peak.
John and Julie are two of the friendliest people youll ever meet. The mansion is gorgeous, we stayed in one of the cottages for a little more privacy and the hot tub but will definitely stay in one of the mansion rooms the next time we venture north. Julie is an amazing cook and breakfast was light and tasty, make sure you try the Garth Juice, not sure whats in it but its delicious. Make sure to visit with the Alpaca and Llamas, Julie even has carrots for you to feed them. Wonderful place with the friendliest hosts youll ever meet.
Excellent! Excellent! Beautifully appointed rooms in this historic home. We felt perfectly at home and SO comfortable. The owners took very good care of us. We were spoiled! We were in town for A Weekend of Mark Twain, and couldn’t have selected a better place to stay. Our meals were delicious, and the scones are to die for! I highly recommend the Garth.
Great place, excellent service.
Had an amazing time at a wedding they hosted. The bride and groom had a wonderful night. The staff did everything they could to accommodate the weather, and the ceremony didnt lose any of its romance. Just an absolutely beautiful evening and location.
My first time staying at any Bed and Breakfast but my stay here has my wife and I excited to stay in one again. John left for a golf tournament so we only saw him when we checked in. Julie was a great host. She asked our Breakfast preferences when we arrived. I dont like eggs and both mornings I was there she made me a breakfast with no eggs. Including some of the best waffles Ive ever eaten in my life. I would go back solely for the waffles. She also made delicious muffins each morning from scratch. You need to take a gravel road to get there. Its a nice secluded property. Also keep in mind this is an old house not a new hotel. They have newer cabin options too I guess. I recommend you check it out even if it is for no other reason than to try Julies cooking.
This is our favorite place to stay on the general area of Hannibal and Quincy. John and Julie are wonderful hosts and keep a beautiful b&b. They fix the best breakfast around. We came here the first time right after getting married and will continue to return.
This place far surpassed my expectations. Not only was every little detail thought out, but Julie and John were so kind, even took into account my food preferences for breakfast! They knew I loved the llama and alpacas outside- so they cut up carrots for me to feed them! Not to mention the mansion is in stunning condition, and sits on a beautifully maintained piece of property. I cannot wait to come back and stay in all of the rooms! Worth a trip to Hannibal for sure- just to get away from it all!
What a gorgeous place and lovey team! Julie was super helpful over the phone and sent me a very helpful guide to the area. Thank you!
My husband and I spent the weekend here in the Woodside room. Julie and John are phenomenal hosts. They were both very caring and have wonderful personalities. I had a wonderful time and I plan to revisit soon!
A wonderful romantic getaway--quiet setting, delicious breakfast, very comfortable bed, beautifully decorated, and owners are very hospitable.
This was a magical, special trip with my father. He and I both will cherish the memory of being at the Garth Woodside. Our hosts were lovely and super fun. They sent us a wonderful personalized guide with suggestions of what to do ahead of time. My father stayed in the room Mark Twain had slept in and will be talking about that for a long time. My room was also gorgeous. We are coming back in September and bringing a group!
My son and daughter in law had their wedding here this past weekend! Even tho it rained, and it all had to be moved indoors, the venue was immaculate! The staff was great! Thank you so much for making their day as special as they imagined.
Enjoyed our stay, will certainly visit again!
My wife and I truly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful bed & breakfast. The Samuel Clemens room was cozy and romantic with a remote gas fireplace, and breakfast each morning was amazing! We cant wait to go back.
Have been coming here quite a lot since last year; John & Julie are wonderful innkeepers; I usually stay in one of cottages; breakfasts r very yummy; I had a health scare while visiting & they treated me like family. Plus u get to feed carrots to Rachel Ray, resident llama & Colonel, baby alpaca. So overall a 5-star expérience.
Very neat experience! Stayed in the Samuel Clemens suite and felt inspired to finish my book:) We woke up the next morning to a wonderful breakfast and good conversation then took a stroll around the estate. We would recommend staying there to anyone!
Walking through the door opens to warm smile and cozy magnificence throughout this mansion, a true peaceful experience from check-in to check-out; will be back.....THANK YOU!
Lovely people, wonderful stay. We will be back!
We stayed at the mansion for our 1 year wedding anniversary and it was absolutely amazing!! John and Julie were very accommodating and the mansion is just beautiful!! The breakfast is to die for!! We will definitely be back and I will recommend to all my friends and family..thank you Julie and John for the wonderful experience!!
Outstanding Victorian era mansion turned B&B complete with a couple of llamas and alpacas out back that enjoy carrots. Great hosts one of which is an expert martini maker. Highly recommended!
My wife and I spent our 5th anniversary and we could not have had a better time! John and Julie and their staff took care of all of our needs and wishes. The facilities are amazing and John and Julie make the stay feel like home! We will definitely be back and cant wait for our next visit!
The best ever. The owners are awesome.
Went to a beautiful wedding there. Every detail was covered. Very classy.
Beautiful place and very relaxing
We have stayed here 8 times and each has been a wonderful experience. Thank you John & Julie for making us feel so welcome and for sharing your beautiful home!
My husband and I had a great time relaxing and rejuvenating at the Mansion. We stayed in the Woodside Room and enjoyed the wine, jetted tub, chocolate covered strawberries, and especially the Breakfast! If you have never visited, you should and stay a while; John and Julie are so nice!
Go back in time but with modern amenities
Great place to stay if your visiting and wanting a more private homelike setting w slot of history behind it
Quaint and cozy! Perfectly preserved antiques and comfortable setting. Feels like nothing has been changed since the time this Victorian estate was built. Loved the fireplace and jacuzzi in our room. Very inviting atmosphere and super friendly owners! Breakfast was delicious! A quiet wknd getaway and welcoming change of pace from the city!
This was our 2nd stay and it was as nice and pleasant as the first time. We will definitely go again. The owners are the nicest people and so friendly. They made it even more enjoyable to stay. The dowager cottage is fantastic. Would highly recommend staying here if you plan to visit Hannibal, Mo or Quincy, IL. Thank you Julie and John. It was especially nice visiting with the both of you.
We had a wonderful stay! So comfortable and welcoming! Breakfast was amazing!
Julie and John have done a fantastic job in preserving a real treasure. Also, the breakfasts exceeded my expectations. House even looks spooky in broad daylight. I can see us returning for our next trip to Hannibal, MO.
16 years ago my fiance and I first stayed with Julie and John at the Garth mansion and had a wonderful weekend. To celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary we went back this past weekend and it was like stepping back in time, both to the 1800s setting of the beautiful architecture and to 16 years ago with hosts just as welcoming, gracious and funny. Julies home-cooked breakfast is delicious and the rooms are comfortable and inviting. Well definitely be returning sooner this time.
The owners were friendly and made us feel at home! The house is everything you could want in a B&B- authentic furnishings, lots of history but with modern bathrooms!! We had a great time
John and Julie were extremely friendly and helpful. The mansion is beautiful and in a peaceful location yet close to downtown. Really enjoyed our stay there.
Atmosphere is amazing. Cabins are cozy. Main house is magical.
My wife and I stayed at the Mansion for just a quick get away. We could not have been happier with this property! The Mansion was beautiful, the staff was fantastic. Prompt responses by the owners and staff on every need we had. Would recommend staying here to anyone! Great place!
John and Julie,What a lovely, lovely stay we had at your place. You are both so kind, funny, and sweet. Your statement online that with the Dowager Cottage you have tried to anticipate every need was achieved. Mary is one of my BFFs, so we were not there for romance, but we appreciated not wanting for ANYTHING. When the internet was not working (we had some things that required it - sneaking away to get caught up was part of the plan for retreat), Julie fixed it in TEN MINUTES. We had reservations at first about the cost, but it was well worth it.Everything was a 7+ stars out of 5.Best,Theresa (and Mary)
Garth Woodside Mansion was the perfect girls trip destination! Our group couldnt have been happier with the charming cottage, and the hot tub was a huge plus! John and Julie were wonderful hosts, and we are still talking about how delicious the breakfasts were. We loved getting to explore the mansion, feed the alpacas, walk the grounds, and of course take an excessive amount of pictures of this beautiful place. Would highly recommend Garth Mansion to anyone who is looking for a getaway or change of pace on a property surrounded in rich history and natural beauty. Wish we could have stayed longer!
We were attending a 3day group tour of Hannibal. Our event coordinator booked an formal evening dinner with Victorian attire and a tour of the home with lunch for 120 guest. The menu for the dinner included a glass of lukewarm ice, salad with three lettuce leaves and 3 shamal pieces of tomatoes, 3 green beans, a small chicken leg and thigh, mashed potatoes. No seasoning on the food. No salt and pepper on the table. No bread and butter. The entertainment required a PA system which was not provided. The next day the owner stopped by our table and asked how was everything. We told her about the formal dinner. She was extremely rude to us.She even suggest that she could ask us to leave. She asked what could she do to make it right. We asked for a cup of ice. She left and complained to another guest about the ice. This man approached and started an argument with us.Be Ware if you plan to use this facility for an event.
I called at 8:48am. Phone was promptly answered, I said that I had an odd request and would like an option, meaning that I am have an unusual request, but am wanting to make a reservation. The gentleman interrupted me, told this was a bed and breakfast and said he was serving breakfast and hung up on me. I thanked him for being rude as he hung up. I did not know he would be serving breakfast, and if he was busy why not let the voicemail answer the call? Of course I knew it was a bed & breakfast, that’s why I was calling. I wanted to arrange a special stay for my mother when we would be passing through. This looks like a wonderful place to stay, but I am heartbroken that I was so rudely interrupted and treated that way. If that was an employee, I would think he could be trained on some manners and for Pete’s sake don’t answer the phone if your serving breakfast. I would have much rather left a message for them to return my call when they were not serving breakfast.
