Absolutely worth a look if you’ve any disposition towards Irish history and emigration from Ireland to the US and elsewhere around the world. Worth a look!

Amazing good little museum. Worth a detour for trip to get here

This museum is haunting and beautiful. A lot of thought went into this museum. Be sure to find out about the design of the museum itself and its correlation to the Hunger Ship. I could see traces of Game of Thrones inspiration in this history and artwork. I also appreciate how this museum not only tells the history of Ireland, but ties in history of England, India and the Choctaw tribe in Georgia. A Scottish man who felt the plight of Ireland so deeply that he became an Irish citizen painted a gorgeous painting expressing the grief of many, even the Holocaust. As much as I like to stay in a happy and positive environment, this museum is rich in history and I was glad I visited it. It was also nice that they displayed some happier art from before the famine.

Two hours spent in this museum was a very moving experience. One of the best museum tours Ive taken--our guide was very knowledgeable about history and offered additional background info on various pieces in the exhibit. Artwork is arranged in thematic sections, and the informational panels are interesting and succinct. Theres even a panel explaining the significance of the wall tiles in the restroom! And its free! (Do leave a donation.)

Tour guides are extremely knowledgeable about The Great Irish Hunger. The exhibits told the whole story in paintings, sculptures and videos.

Our LAOH group went here and received a docent-led tour of the museum. She was excellent and pointed out the many beautiful sculptures and artwork from both current day and art produced during the Great Hunger (1845-1852). Prior to going, I did not realize the historical impact of this tragic event.

I didnt know what to expect before going, however I was blown away. Some of the most moving art work I have ever seen. The creators of this should feel very proud at this accomplishment. Everyone should visit here.

A really moving place. You start by watching a film that documents what lead up too, and how the famine was handled. It brought me and my family to tears. when we visited the permanent collection was traveling, so in its place was a temporary exhibit that had drawings from the Civil War. It is small, only two stories. Took us about 2 hours to see everything. They did have a video for kids which my son watched and liked very much.

Go for the guided tour. Its well worth it and those women know what they are talking about and will give it a depth and meaning like you may not have expected. Its a small space but packed with important and varied material.The video at the beginning explains a lot if your not familiar with the famine, but its a very moving experience overall.

I love history and Im part Irish. I love learning about my Fathers Family History and hunger in general. I volunteer many hours on a quest to end world hunger. I was hungry as a child. Ta, Ta, Great Place!

Great little museum in our own backyard! Smallish place, plan on an hour if you like to read all the descriptions.

Everyone should know the story of Irelands great famine. This museum is so well designed with many meaningful details, not only in the exhibits but in the architecture as well. The parking lot entrance is right on Whitney Avenue. Dont follow the Waze directions that tell you to turn onto Woodruff Street like we did. Theres a handicap ramp and donations are accepted. Its two floors of exhibits that include videos, paintings and sculptures with a small reading area. Even the restrooms have an interesting detail to read about. Allow yourself some time to visit Wentworth Ice Cream just down the road for a treat. I had the pot hole ice cream - Oreo ice cream with a Nutella ribbon...SO good!

Only saw 1/2 of artifacts. Need to go back to see the rest of it.

Very moving, very well curated museum about the Irish famine. Everybody needs to visit this museum, to see what happens when governments turn their backs on their people. A lesson that never gets completely learned, apparently.
