BCYC is jewel. Amazing location just off Boca Ciega Bay with easy access to the Gulf and Tampa Bay. Welcoming, friendly club members who make you feel right at home. A nice club building with a brand new covered patio right on the water. Wet slips in a fine boat basin and dry storage, too, for boat, dingys and such. A fleet of Catalina Capris, Sunfish and Lasers for club members to sail. Lots of cruising, racing, and other fun on the water. Parties and dinners off the water. Sea Scouts. Events with the greater Gulfport and St. Pete community like the St. Pete Boat Show and the Gulfport Christmas Boat Parade... and on and on. The thing that brought my wife and I to the club was the outstanding Sail School which took me from a land lubbber to being able really sail one of those Catalina Capris like a pro. (And its affordable, too.)

Wonderful asset in the funky little town of Gulfport. Way beyond just a sailing club. In addition to the very affordable Learn to Sail sessions offered to the public twice a year (which comes with a free 3 month membership including use of club sailboats, kayaks, paddleboards and lots of social activities), FREE SAIL SCHOOL FOR KIDS, there are activities and education for boat cruisers, boat racers, kayakers, paddleboarders, fishing club, Rhumb Runners Womens Club...always something going on!Maintained almost entirely by the members volunteering, this club has something for everyone to GET OUT ON THE WATER!!! Surprisingly affordable---monthly dues are less than the cost of renting a kayak for a couple of hours. Included in membership is free access to the clubs Capri sailboats, sailing prams, sailfish, kayaks, paddleboards and canoes. Monthly Club weekends include potluck dinners, racing, education, specialty meetings (Rhumb Runners-Womens Club, Fishing Club)....check out the website for more information about this gem of a club---laid back and friendly and all inclusive!

Joined the club just over a year ago. Met some very good people which have become good friends. Also have found that almost every one is willing to help and provide advice to novices like me. So why am I only providing two stars? As with any group you have to peel the layers to get to understand the dynamics . My problems began when a portion of the club decided that they wanted to change the bylaws to exclude live aboards as members (even though they had been accepted for many years and were not living in the marina). I was very vocal against this. In my point of view, they represent the true sailing culture. After this, After this, some people became openly hostile. I decided to ignore it - figured I had much more important things to worry about. Then, I started noticing that someone(s) had been on my boat when I wasn’t there. No way to prove it since nothing ever went missing, just often out of place. Finally the clincher. Someone decided to pour water in my fuel tank. Four gallons, thank you very much. After reporting it to the board and getting exactly zero response, it was obvious that I was not wanted. So moved my boat and stopped paying my dues.Considered giving one star, but really, the good people there are great. The bad, well...

Facilities are ok. But if u are a minoritystay away. I went there for the boat show and could easily see how differently I was treated. Not friendly at all. So if you believe in diversity stay away from that place.

Boycott this place. They are not inviting to Gulfport residents unless you meet their criteria.

I have been told repeatedly that, although on City Owned property leased for $1/year that BCYC does not allow any animals in their club house - including legitimate ADA service animals. I have filed a claim and I was told by a board member “we don’t like you because you are a pushy Jewish girl”. I cannot put it down as the “friendliest club” - if you want to sail small boats it is worth it to join and just use the boats, don’t get caught up in the high school type drama that plays out there. Do not be tempted to volunteer, go to their parties, or become involved in any of their politics or give opinions. There are some amazing people in there - and those people will find you if you live to sail and have a sailor’s soul. Unfortunately the hand of leadership / Private Yacht Club types is heavy handed and still 1950’s style. - This is a place to sail and go home- no matter how nice they seem- if you meet someone there who is part of the “we are a private yacht club” crowd: sail, smile, and move along (if you really have a sailor’s soul the Commodore will probably tell you to “move along” anyway). I wish it was the club it was when I joined 12 years ago. IMHO greed by the leadership has driven leadership to say and do anything to keep the club “private” while enjoying City subsidized rent.

Bless their hearts. They need diversity training. Sea scouts 10 stars. I would not recomend this club. They are not an inclusive group to the gulfport community were I have lived for 20 years. I was a member disenfranchised when the commodor anulled my families membership after 8 years. Pinellas county human rights is investigating discrimination by this club.

Cool spot. No pretentious jerks like spyc and everything is relatively inexpensive. Great place that I can certainly recommend if you are an active sailor.

It is a fine facility with boat ramp and storage. Older but charming. I would love to see a video of how they launch those Catalina Capri 16.5. Even though I am not a member I was helped and treated cordially the whole day.

I joined about a year ago, and felt very welcome at BCYC. I wish I could spend more time there. Really good people that have one thing in common, sailing. Very relaxed and casual. People vary from new to sailing, to very experienced. Sailing class was fantastic.
