Runway Park is top notch! Always so busy is the only downside, my wife says theyre gonna need to expand on it. That being said, its wonderful to watch aircraft while the kids play! It makes me so happy that that theyve used our tax dollars on this, if that is in fact the case. In any case, its a must stop if youre visiting or if you just moved here, or youve lived here 53 years.
Blown away by this little park at the end of the downtown airport. You can watch as little private planes fuel up and fly away. On one side is a cute little cafe and on the other is a war history museum with a literal ton of cool stuff. Cannons and half tracks Ive even heard rumors they might get a tank!!
The kids had a blast on the playground equipment and the equipment is all in great shape. Two restrooms are also inside the gated park. Papa really likes the Runway Cafe right next to the park. There were tons of parents and kids there so the community approves.
I went here just after Christmas in 2018 with my brother, two of my cousins, and my nieces and nephews. The park is, at this time, very nice and in great condition. The theme of the park is an airport, which can be seen in almost every aspect of the park. Many of the items are made from old airplane parts and the actual layout of the park is an airport with two (correctly marked) runways that intersect in the center. At the entrance to the park is a Cessna 310,mounted on a pole, about 15 ft off the ground, as if it were making a turn. The playground equipment is designed to look like a control tower, as well as other buildings. One climbing piece is in the form of a stylized hammerhead stall. The sides and middle trace the path the planes wings take when performing this maneuver. There is also a bench which has a top made from the wings of a small, light aircraft. I would also suggest that you take a few minutes to walk around the perimeter of the park on the walking path and take a few minutes to read the placards. These give information about airplanes, parts, operations, and the history of aviation, especially in upstate SC.There is a picnic pavilion with tables and a cover for parties and cookouts that is for food use on a first come first serve basis. Id recommend going here if your in the area, especially if you have children and are looking for a place to kill some time for a few hours.
Wonderful layout. Single entry inside and out. Wonderful track that goes around the park for bicycles and whatnot. The airplanes provide the perfect distraction for children every few minutes.
The park is great for children. They have bucket swings for little ones. They have a covered picnic area and a walking track around the playground. There is also a cafe beside the park. There is no shade that I could see.
Super clean and fun. The kiddos love to watch the planes come in and out. Nice paved walk ways and plenty of covered seating for sunny days
Great place for a childs birthday party! Lots of outdoor space full of fun!
Nice little park. The toys are geared towards the younger ages and air airport themed. There is a nice undulated walking path for the adults to circle while the kids play. Signage along the way explains about the Civil Air Patrol and various airport terminology. There is plenty of seating to rest on as well. Restrooms and a pavilion are also located within the park. The Runway Cafe is located adjacent to the park. Planes can be seen taking off and landing nearby.
Great place to take the family. The park is clean and well maintained, and always ready to receive visitors.
Awesome fenced in playground with a walking track. My boys love watching the airplanes and helicopters fly over too!
This place was awesome. A must visit if youre in the area!!
Im vacillating between three and four stars. The park is well keep and its fun to watch planes take off and land. The only draw back is the lack of shaded areas around the park. Theres a pavilion, but thats the only shade.
Love this park and the children do too! So nice to see the planes fly by!
Excellent place to bring my children to play and watch the planes fly
Well kept. Many planes coming and going kept the children entertained.
Absolutely the best park ever designed. My son absolutely loves this park.
Super cool park, thats spacious, yet fenced in. Right by the airport, so kids can see the plans taking off and landing on the runway. They have multiple areas for kids to play so they arent just stuck at one playground.
Fantastic park with lots of space to run and play. Covered area is large and perfect for lunch while watching the planes take off and land!
This park is good because its fenced in and has planes flying right there that the kids enjoy watching. It is very flat and doesnt have any trees though so it feels really cold if theres a breeze and the play equipment can be very hot in the summer time. Just be sure to dress appropriately and youll have fun.
Its alright, crowded in the evenings, not very much space to walk its really just s playground, cute though.
This was a small but fun smaller kids really liked that there was an actual runway very beautiful!!
Great place to let your kids run and play gated .
Such a well made park. The girls had a blast watching the planes come in.
Lots of parking, large eating area, sooo fun!
Great park for the young airplane enthusiast! Lots of play equipment for children from early toddler age all the way up, great views of the planes landing and taking off at the very busy airport, a shaded pavilion perfect for mid morning snacks or picnic lunches, water fountains, a clean public restroom with cant changing stations, basically everything a family could want in a park! Great place to visit and play during a stay in Greenville!
Very clean, equipment for all ages of children, with some education included. Very nice shelter from sun or rain.
Awesome park to take the kiddos and watch planes.
Awesome park next to the runway with multiple high quality play apparatuses and some additional space for other activities. The park was packed when we went, but it still had enough space/offerings for our young son to enjoy himself. Conveniently located near Haywood road and easy to get to using Google maps.
We love this park and drive an hour to come to it..the kids enjoy riding their bikes and playing on the playground while watching the planes take off and land. My only complaint is that more parents need to watch their children. On busy days there are alot of wild kids running around being rude to other kids with no parents in sight. I stay with mine, ages 4 and 5 and have more than once had to get on to other kids for being mean to them. My advice...go on a day during the week if you can so its not so crowed
My kids absolutely love this place and I do too!! Best park ever for kids 2 and up
This park has not only play structures but wide open space for children to play in. A nice fence surrounds the entire area. Parents can walk on a track while keeping an eye out on their kids. There was a lot of shaded space. A very nice bonus---planes landing and taking off. Good outside fun for all!
I took my brother to this park and ever since this is the only park he has been talking about!
Always a great place to grab a bite and let the kids play. Perfect for pilots.
Awesome park.. Great for all ages!!-
A great park to play Pokemon go
My daughter absolutely loves this place, and we do also!!!
Strange brothers is adding a new parking area and a miniature golf course. This place will be alot of fun and good times!
My kids like going here, but to me its too crowded. Lots of parents not tending to their children
Love this place! My kids enjoy all the equipment, and I can relax and watch them play. Also love the fact that it is fenced in!
This place is always a hit with the kids. You can watch a variety of planes take off and land. The cafe next to the park is good as well will a few choices for kids.
Nice place for a play date....and watching the planes take off n land.
Such a great family space and the food was affordable
This is a wonderful park. Lots of slides and places for kids to climb. There is even a track around the perimeter perfect for tricycles, strollers, plasma cars or whatever. The airport is busy and level with the playground so watching planes taxi, rake-off, and land is really easy and fun.
Had a blast with all the kids!
Great park, walking track, restaurant, bathrooms, covered area, play equipment, planes taking off and landing.
The park and cafe are great! Im looking forward to everything else that is planned. When they raise enough money, they will have a paved parking lot, military museum and more family friendly things moving in. It is going to get even better.
This place is always fun! From the park to the planes and a yummy lunch, we love it!
What a delightful gem! Setting & decor is fun even if youre not into planes. Play ground is well done for all ages with a walking path included. Our party of 4 adults each ordered something different & all would order it again. Personally had the Pimento cheese sandwich. Grilled to perfection. Homemade PC has a elusive sweet note amongst the expected tangy punch that defines a good PC! If we lived in Greenville it would fast be our go to place!
Great spot to bring kids to play and they get to watch the planes take off!!
This might be the best idea for a park Ive ever seen. 2 playgrounds, plenty of fenced-in space to run, a paved circle for scooters and skateboards and the like, a cafe right there with fried Oreos... All while small planes are taking off and landing all day. A perfect place to take an active kid, or one who cant get enough of planes.
The kids had a blast. Plenty of space for them to run around and play. Great experience.
Great & safe place for kids to play while watching planes take off. There is a cafe beside the park you can also eat at. There are two sets of play grounds so little & big kids have separate areas to play at.
My Granddaughter always loves this park! Lots of fun playground equipment to choose from! Only problem is there is absolutely no shade and on hot days some of the slides are way too hot to even play on! Great fun though watching the planes take off and land!
This park is fantastic. Well worth flying in to spend time at the park and there is a nice restaurant on the ramp. It ended up being the perfect place to watch the 2017 eclipse.
I visited here but eventually turned around because it was to many people
It is a nice place to see planes take off and land every few minutes. The park itself is nice as well, made in airplane theme. Kids really enjoyed their time there.
A wonderful little park with a nice walking trail. Perfect for families with very young children. Also, 3 Pokemon gyms and 3 Pokestops. And airplanes! Who doesnt love airplanes?
In my opinion this is the best park in Greenville. Not only is there ample space and playground equipment, there is the added bonus of being able to watch planes take off and land. There is the runway cafe right beside the park that serves great food as well. The restrooms at the park are always clean and the park itself is as well. I absolutely love this park!
Was the best park Ive ever been too! I cant wait to go back when I come back to Greenville! We live in Columbia. Ill bring friends!!!
The people in the cafe are super awesome. Great food at a good price right next to a clean and fun park. My kids love watching the planes take off.
My son’s absolute favorite park. It was so great for him to see several planes and helicopters land and take off nearby and there’s plenty of space to play, run, or ride bikes here. Love that it’s fenced in too with shaded areas for eating and public restrooms. I enjoy all the airplane inspired play equipment and decorations as well!! Such a creative and unique space, and worth bringing kids here at least once while in Greenville.
Great park! Airport/plane theme is cute and kids love watching the planes take off. Wish there was some shade over the playground area, very hot without it (Sept 29).
Great fun for the little ones and educational field trip for our homeschoolers
Great park to take kids and watch airplanes take off and just relax.
Great food and great service fun for the family
Fun for our kids and has two different playgrounds. Also fun to watch aeroplanes taking off!
Its a great place for kids. Parents have a safe place to enjoy watching there children play. My sons love this place. Just dont bring fido they are not allowed.
Was a great park for little ones. Our 2 year old had a blast at this park. The bathrooms were imaculate! And having the cafe next to the park made for an easy lunch.
My sons absolutely loved it here! The planes taking off and landing are such a joy to them! All the children played so well together and lots of parent to parent interaction. All around great healthy park atmosphere.
Sadly, Runway Park was a disappointment. The playground was adequate for about 50 kids but there is only one bathroom. There is a covered area where you can sit down and read, eat, etc. If you plan to have food at the park restaurant, plan on spending $9 for a hamburger. There is one sweet factor which is its located close to the downtown runway and if youre lucky, you can watch a plane or two takeoff or land. As a tip, maybe they could put some airplane-inspired playground equipment for the kids to play on.
Great place for kids of all ages. Lots of different playgrounds. Especially great if you like watching small planes and jets land and take off.
One of the most fun playground weve been to. It is usually pretty crowded when we go though. We like to take a picnic with us and both times the shelter was rented so we had to sit in the grass to eat. The kids love the play equipment though and it is a fun unique experience.
Great place for the kids and if you go before sunset you will get a beautiful view of it going down... plains flying in and out just makes it more entertaining..
Good playground. Clean restrooms and close parking. It is enclosed and they park the planes yards from the fence. It has a pavallion that can be rented. The kids loved watching the plans take off and land. The only draw back was that there was no shade on the playground.
Great, small park for children under 10
Little crowded but the kids had fun.
What a cool park!!! We brought our 1 1/2 old to this park and he had a blast. We watched planes land and take off all while sliding down slides. The idea behind this park was a great one. The family will have a blast.
Great place. Worked there as a line tech in 2004 and I got to fly in and see some familiar faces after 14 years
Love bringing the kiddies here to run around. The area is big and they can ride their scooters up and down till they wear off their energy
The best park in Greenville. What genius decided to build a park next to a small airport because I want to shake their hand. Kids can watch planes come in and take off while they play on three separated playgrounds or run or bike around the long track. There is a covered shelter with a ton of tables, but it can be rented. There are a few swings as well. There are two toilets, single bathrooms, and theres something you should know if you had kids who are sensitive to noise. The toilets are VERY LOUD. Its almost like they did it on purpose to simulate being inside a jet engine. So beware if your kid needs to use the potty or simply go beforehand. This place also gets five stars because theres a fun little cafe next to it with food kids like. Not to mention the Greenville Humane Society is on your right as your leaving so you could really make a day of it here. If you live in Greenville, take your kid to Airplane Park, and youll be glad you did.
Very clean. Enclosed huge park area. 2-5 year old playground is not tall for fall worries. Lots of slides and lots of benches. Shaded bench area. Restroom and water fountain area. Great place for multiple children park. Grass isnt real so no worries for bugs when sitting in grass and have infant crawl around in the grass. People are also very nice. My only concern is the two playgrounds are not shaded like the park near Greenville zoo.
My son loves this place. Always clean
I just wished it had more swings or more baby friendly playsets. Other than that it was great!
Great place to have a family picnic. Theres plenty of room for the children to run around.
Super cute, airport-themed playground/park by with a cool view of the runway with the planes taking off/landing. Very well maintained, with a nice little cafe next to the park for lunch, etc. Great playground equipment. Has a small track that goes around the entire park, which is fairly large, and has lots of open, grassy space to run around. Always has a great crowd, with lots of little ones of all ages for your kiddos to make friends with. Absolutely one of my favorite places to take the kids!
Awesome park!!! Family was there for an hour and we got to see no less than 4 planes land or take off :) I was just as entertained as the kiddos :)
Great park to take the kids. Bring a scooter or bike to take advantage of the runway track around the park. It gets busy, but occasionally youll find yourself there alone. There are restrooms and drinking fountains, but leave Fido at home; as there are no dogs allowed. Take note that if you reserve the picnic area for a birthday, you are on your own in hoping that there are tables available. While GMU posts the reservations, they dont reserve the tables, so you may have to be the bad guy and ask people to leave so you can have the room you need. It happened to us this past weekend, so I wanted to pass this piece of information along. Otherwise, have fun!
