Heritage Hill Was absolutely amazing for our big day! They were professional and personable through out our whole day. They allowed us to set up early and gave us privacy when needed. During these crazy times it felt like life had stood still because they were as accommodating as possible to make our day feel as special as anyone would wish it to be! Thank you so much to everyone there for your smiles and positive attitude and bringing us a day to remember!
Normally, Im quite sure I would have given this place five stars. They have a great selection of buildings, and I love historical buildings and culture. However...In an entire morning wandering here among the (some) original, (some) restored, and some replicated old historical buildings, all the buildings were closed. Understandable amid a pandemic. We could see in windows on a few buildings. At least they had the park open. Thank You! But, on the 40 acre site, which normally (non-covid) has volunteer re-enactor interpretors, there was one map sign and a total of 6 info signs. All these were at the Ft Howard site, were one of the original buildings, dating from the 1830s, is the oldest standing military hospital in the country. A few other buildings had plaques identifying them, but no background information. In the downstairs of the guardhouse was a one room display room about the fort too.I believe that it would probably take one employee or volunteer only a week to create, print, laminate, and post some information signs around the park. It would add so much to the education, experience, and quite possibly donations! Oh yes, there was also a sign not to disturb the chickens and one small map posted on the bathroom door to the womens restroom. However, no one saw it because the other sign on the door was easy to read from a distance and said closed.
Great place to walk and learn a little. Right now (October) you can walk the grounds for free, however none of the buildings are open. Only a dozen or so buildings but they have room for more if they get them.
Lots of fun. Great hike. Will be nice when they can open completely
As a place to take the whole family and have a great day exploring the amazing history of the state of Wisconsin, Heritage Hill cant be beat! There is something for everyone to see and do all in one park. Maybe you want to spend the day wandering around reading all the historical information you can find and listening to the historical reenactors. Possibly its the farm animals and hands on, interactive displays that interest you most. You could also be drawn by the architecture of the old buildings and the interesting daily living arrangements of those years gone by. Well, its all here for you to see and so much more too.You can easily spend a day wandering the grounds and taking in the sights, sounds and smells of days long gone. Its a great way to teach kids that they really have it quite easy now-a-days and to give them a good dose of history while doing so. I have been to the park many times and learn something new each time I go, often a number of things in fact.My favorite things are the smell of the Fur Traders cabin on a warm afternoon with its tobacco drying, the scent of warm bread, just out of the oven, cooling as you walk through one of the kitchens and the realization I dont have to chop wood enough to keep my house warm each day!
Great walking place, lots of beautiful scenery! Fun playground for the kids!
Have always loved the history here! Great events all year. Walked through while buildings closed, still amazing!
Great park, everything was locked, but the urinal and henhouse. Masks arent required for entry and we saw no one cleaning the most used area of the parks public spaces. I was concerned of how sanitary anything was. An employee there asked us to stop skateboarding and that there was a sign posted by the front gate about how there was no skateboarding allowed. From what we saw on the way into the park we checked to see if it was ok and there was no sign posted. We also checked on our way out after he asked us. So we were disappointed by the lack of understanding with the rules of the park.
I brought everyone out on a field trip to heritage hill. Everyone had fun
Cool historic site to learn about the fur trade, first Cathic Church in Wisconsin, and an early US fort.
This is such a charming little historical park! Im not from Green Bay, but I always make a point to visit Heritage Hill whenever I come into town! I love seeing the live demonstrations in the print shop and blacksmithing shop when they happen! When the weather is nice, I can spend all day walking around and looking at everything!
Was here for the Booze and Cruise event to benefit Hopes House. Was a great evening for a good cause. Happy to gave been part of such a great fundraiser!
My brother and his fiance were married here. It Was the Best day of My life and of theres Also Im sure. They were married in the church there. It was Hot. BUT it was Beautiful!!!
While I love the beautiful location and the historical experience we had for my kid’s school field trip, a few of the presenters were very unfriendly, and gruff with the kids. I was disappointed with how curt they were in talking to the children. Just to be fair, the sweet lady who did the school presentation, and the guys who ran the guard station and the fur trading station were all awesome! Fun, friendly and in character! (Also the gal who did the medicine grinding was sweet too)
Excellent family attraction. Unique events that are family oriented and rich in local history. Also a cool venue for wedding or business party. The place made a mark on me when I visited it 30yrs prior for a field trip in grade school.
Such a wonderful park for a family outing. History and fun for all ages. Lots of fun events and just a great place to spend the day
Been going there since I was very young. I absolutely love it. I’m getting married in the chapel this year. It’s a dream come true.
Went for luminary walk event there.. It was fun. Tasty supper made from wild rice!
Great visit seeing how Christmas was done in the past and how other traditions came to the US from legal immigrants! Lots of Christmas carols while walking the grounds. We took a horse wagon ride and enjoyed the beautiful winter day.
Very informative and the volunteers knew everything and made sure that everyone understood and answered any questions you had. Fur trade center worker had a very good sense of humor, made the experience worth the long walk
If gone more than once and it’s always a pleasant time.
Great exercise! Many places to warm up & nice warm bonfire. Poor lighting in the trade shack though, not enough lanterns, could hardly see the furs
My Little Brother and his fiance were married here. I was able to see tons of My Family!! It was One of the greatest days of Our Lives!!!
A very educational trip for all involved. With more funding this place could truly come alive but sadly they have to rely on volunteers. Due to this, many of the exhibits remain closed almost year round because there just isnt enough people to work everything. Highly recommend for anyone interested in our countrys history.
It is a good place to bring kids to and u can learn a lot of things about the past
An amazing State Park.We toured the Park on one of the days (check the website) on which interpretive volunteers held demonstrations ranging from blacksmithing to printing to daily life in a fur traders post. There is an entrance fee for the Park, but it appears that a State Park sticker is not required for parking. An added bonus is a small trolley that circles the grounds, making it much easier to access all of the buildings.Again a super park, well definitely be back.Support all of your State and National Parks.
Attended a wedding at the old church it was beautiful
Great museum, great information, workers are awesome, music performances in the summer outside make for a great summer day!
The Black Smith guys are awesome! And will answer all of your questions there quite knowledgeable and are very good artists. The park also quite beautiful.
Very interesting, great interpretive guides and well kept even with limited funds. We spent 3 hours there and could have easily stayed at least another hour.
The overall atmospher is breath taking. There is a chapel for weddings, a barn, and the reception area to die for. The bar was lacking in the ability to take care of the guests. Food was marginal based on the menu selected
It was nice. We all had a good time. Alot of people there.
Loved the Christmas actors and great to see the areas real history!
Our family had so much fun exploring the park. The kids fort is amazing!! We will certainly be back again this summer.
I loved it. Would so take my family here!!
The history of the buildings and the energy they give off is AMAZING!! Love it!!
Awesome Halloween activities.. have been going to this for years!
Small park that should let you walk around any day of the week. It was the Saturday after Spring that I went, and their Fall & Winter Hours said they were closed on the weekend. Being closed on the weekends doesnt make sense to me, and locking the gates so you cant walk around makes even less sense.
I love this place, so much history. I met my husband here 14 years ago, we got married here 8 years ago and today we brought our kids here. It has changed, but all for the better. I love the interactive buildings and all of the historical people know their stuff. Today they also opened a kods playground which will be great when we come back. I highly recommend this for all ages.
Great stop for East-WI history, set up is for education, kids, but also satisfying for adults.
So interesting. Historical, narrators, authentic. Whats not to like?
Our daughter and son-in-law got married at the gazebo yesterday (in over 100° heat index) and it was a great location. Very nice! Rebecca, Jenny, and Larry were so nice and helpful and accommodating. It was awesome that they had a tram service to transport our guests in the heat. I would definitely recommend it, and I hope you have cooler weather than we did!
Wonderful place to see. So much history and a nice place to go through. Would recommend.
The staff and dressed actors at the park are very knowledgeable how about the area and the park itself are more than capable than asking any question you have each section as well as the park. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 to $7 for children and parking is free at the time of this posting. I do recommend going if you are interested in and would like to learn about local history and will be going again myself.
The halloween event was so much fun!
Excellent experience, sons wedding was fabulous, and staff was perfect wonderful evening. Early our coordinator and slash bardener was the greatest tented to everyones needs. Thank-you again
Great staff, no restrooms near th church...making it tough on the wedding party and guests.
Heritage Hill is a 40 acre site in Allouez, just east of the Fox River and across the river from the National Railroad Museum. An outdoor museum operated by the Wisconsin DNR, it is a collection of historic buildings that were moved to the site for preservation rather than be demolished in the name of progress.
A lot of buildings and history to see. Kids have a play area. Events throughout the summer.
Super fun and interesting. Great info and history here. It is a big place but they provide free transportation around the park. They also have wheelchairs for the disabled. Everything is very interesting and you can go inside almost every building. Many of the building have actors who are very friendly and informative.
A very historical landmark that is known around most of Wisconsin and all of green bay. It contains very old fire houses and houses from the age. A kid friendly place and places to eat as well. There is also an iron worker you can watch as well. Schools send field trips here often as well.
Thank you Early and Larry for making our daughter and new son-in-laws wedding day at the gazebo in the park very special! Both of you were so helpful, we couldnt be happier. Thank you again, you both hit it out of the park!
Great historical park. Take a trip back in time and see a place rarely seen by the new generation
This place is really beautiful. I went to the Civil War reenactment of Antietam today. They have great parking for handicapped, also a shuttle 4 anyone that takes you 2 the site. People there were very friendly and helpful both on the phone and at Heritage Hills State Park itself.
I really enjoyed my visit, wish I could of spent more time there!
Great place to visit, the only big downside is that you cant always see or learn about all the buildings as they are heavily dependent on their volunteers who cant always be there. On our last visit their were several buildings we couldnt go into which was disappointing.
My son and new daughter-in-law had their ceremony and reception at Heritage Hills. Kathleen was the event planner and Yvonne was our contact person for the actual ceremony. These women did an outstanding job and I would highly recommend this location for any event. Yvonne and Bridget went out of their way to transport people around, answer any questions for our guests and took total care of all of us and the wedding party. It was a fantastic day and one we will never forget! Thank you so much Heritage Hills for all you did to make for such a beautiful day!!
Great Laura Ingels Wilder presentation, wish we had time to do all the stations
I used to love going here because it felt like I was immersed in the past but now theyre changing things up and adding more technology and I feel like thats just not the point of a historical park.
On select Wednesday evenings in the summer, Heritage Hill offers concerts on the big lawn. Its a family-friendly event, with an audience of all ages. Food can be carried in, but not beverages. Both are for sale on the grounds. Parking in the Heritage Hill lot fills up fast, but theres on-street parking in nearby neighborhoods. They pass the hat, but whether you contribute is up to you.
Or field trip was fun and educational.
I loved attending puppy yoga, they did a very nice job with this event
I had such a great time wandering into all the houses and learning about the history of the region. I have been to Colonial Williamsburg and Mount Vernon and I found this to be more intimate than those settings. The volunteers were all enthusiastic and it was impossible not to pick that enthusiasm up. I went during a week day so there werent very many people around. Great experience!
Very accurate period destination with cool buildings, displays, and impersonators. Have a lot of events. We went to the civil war reanactment. The groups were really good but they seemed understaffed - which I understand most of the people are volunteers and I appreciate everything they do, there unfortunately just werent a whole lot of them. They did have food trucks and even beer at the event which was a nice plus.
We saw a Program about the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth Rock and beginning to build there settlement. It was very good and presented in ye old English, with props and Period clothing that the kids could try on. They all enjoyed it very much especially the old toys and travel conditions or lack of considering modern day travel. Thanks!
Very interesting historically and staff were most helpful and accommodating even though we were there a bit out of season
This is a beautiful historical village that took many, many years to come to fruition. Buildings have been brought in and restored to their original look. From an old schoolhouse to a print shop, docents are dressed in accurate clothing from the period. The entry building offers photographs and displays from early Green Bay. The family friendly park has musical evenings, special reenactments and events like the Laura Ingalls Wilder weekend. This is a dont miss whether a local or visitor to the area.
Perfect park filled with history. Go on a day off and enjoy hikes in the park, and watching history in the form of buildings of the era. I loved it. People who work there are really nice people. The park is family friendly and it has parking.
An exceptional living history park featuring early architectural structures from Green Bays past.
Heritage hill brings history to life with real people to enact events that happened. We have only visited one time but it was amazing.
We enjoyed our visit.
Love the way they present the history. People dress in time period clothes and are assigned to specific places. They get the kids involved. Have all sorts of things going on . Weddings, fall harvest, speakers from Little House on The Prarie .Not just a lame tour with one person talking. My grandmother used to work for the blacksmith s wife and on occasion he used to gave her help in the shop. Heritage Hill bought the building and when they opened it it was loaded with everything that is in the shop now. It was like the guy was going to open shop the next day. Just left everything as it was.
We had our ceremony at heritage hill this past August. We were disappointed with the lack of communication on the part of the event coordinator. We were never informed the parking lot was going to be shear gravel on our wedding day! This would have been helpful especially to inform guests what to expect prior to arrival. Park members Im told were also not very accommodating in transporting important guests like my grandmother down the hill to the chapel with the golf charts. In which, I was told this would not be an issue. Overall, paying $800 for the rental is very high especially for the time constraints of 3 hours for ceremony, and pictures.
Very historical. Love it when Little House cast members visit
I was at Heritage Hill State Historical Park tonight for their last summer concert of the year. The music was very good, but the location was terrible. For some unknown reason, music is played at the top of the hill, which forces many patrons to sit on the side of the hill. Its very uncomfortable, and I saw several elderly people struggling to navigate through the crowd. There is no shade, I couldnt find a garbage can, and it seems very disorganized. They would be doing their patrons a favor by returning the music location to the base of the hill, and use the gazebo for the stage.
Staff and the was very accommodating n helpful
Great for weddings or anyone who wants a flavor of history. I have enjoyed both here.
Great place to learn about Wisconsin history!
Houses were closed but gorgeous weather and a nice walj. Everyone still working was most kind and generous with information. Well worth the time.
Great experience for kids. The have various activities throughout the day. We participated in a bucket brigade at the fire station, attended class at the school house, and marched in the army, among other things.
You are escortedTo rushed thru historical site. Whentnatn9am dome by 1130andnsurenindidmdnseenall
Very educational for young and old. I have seen many programs of historical events and they were realistic and entertaining.
Great park for a few hours, the food area was dirty as were the restrooms..definitely for older children and adults.
Open the bathrooms
Great place for entertainment. History is alive with narrators in rhe buildings
I love the living history! We need to preserve these pieces of the past. Thank you so much for all you do to educate & preserve.
Really fun and interesting place to visit and learn about the history of this area
Beautiful wedding venue in the chapel
Having our wedding ceremony at the church in June. We absolutely love it here!
There is a lot to see here, however most of it is closed to the public.
Alot of the builings were closed up. Seemed to have lost its luster over the years.
JfjnfnvmfLtkgjfmv, vkckfk was my time of time the week year old and new I had the opportunity of getting a little bit more than the other
A great museum in Green Bay! The volunteer staff is very knowledgeable and interactive. Great for all ages!
Very nice place to do the Halloween fot the kids.
Beautiful for weddings! Great historical part of the city.
Great park, we spent hours there. The living history actors were very knowledgeable and friendly. Great conversations.
Beautiful park. Very well maintained. The flowers are just gorgeous.
The staff did a wonderful job, thank you for a great weekend
Great people, awesome horses, and fun trail ride. Best value around
