Beautiful aquatics facility. Mediocre experience. Aquatics staff would do well to emulate the model created by other local YMCAs where staff greet and genuinely welcome their swimmers upon arrival and warmly thank them for coming upon their exit; and, importantly, where the aquatics manager has created a culture of friendliness, kindness, gratitude and humility and also holds her staff accountable for the quality of their customer service delivery. Safe pools have rules. I get that. A far better member experience however would also include being greeted by a genuinely friendly pool manager and lifeguards--and go a long way to reflect YMCA values of respect, caring, honesty and responsibility--despite the challenges of the times were in

The Warlick is a great facility to meet old friends and make new ones. Lots of classes for anyone no matter age or physical ability. Most classes are able to accommodate any level, from the older beginner wanting to slowly get back to exercising to young people who can move faster. Always smiling faces. Bring friends and have a look around. You will find this facility to be marvelous.

I love going into this place. Its a relaxing and inviting atmosphere. Most of the classes offered are top notch. They have a lot of treadmills and cardio equipment. The free weight room could be a little bigger, but overall, a really great gym. The building and view are beautiful.

I am loving the YMCA swim lessons. They keep the classes small so that there is a lot of attention on each kid. My sons class only have 2. The instructor is very thorough and always takes the time to tell me what they worked on, how he did, where he may struggle, and if there is any homework, like working on kicking from the hips and not the knees. We are only 2 weeks in, but I look forward to the remainder and having my son be a strong swimmer soon.

Yogi Berra famously said, Nobody goes to that restaurant. Its too busy. You have to stand in line forever. I love to see the large crowds at the Warlick Y with so many people of all ages using practically every room. Its a great asset for our community and a tribute to those who made it happen.

I have been going to the aquatic class, I am 80 years old and I truly feel this class is going to keep me going at my age I have a few medical problems with my back and knee.

I have kids who like to shoot basketball and there is always adult games going on kinda stinks they can never shoot. Seem like this YMCA closes early I don’t understand why especially weekends they can be open later.

The facility is great. While exercising you can look out on the lake. There is lots of exercise equipment and plenty of activity and meeting space. The staff is very helpful and friendly. It is easy to get to and a great place to go to keep yourself healthy and fit.

Beautiful facility and an amazing view of creation as we look at and around the lake behind the Y; watching ducks, geese and other wonderful things as we enjoy some of Gods creation while improving our lives with fantastic friends. Employees are always available and friendly to each member. The most pleasant way to being a day is by first visiting the Y.

Awesome facility. I can’t wait for outdoor kayaking to open again! Lots of events for children. I highly recommend this facility.

Very informative! My daughter is so much happier and active at this afterschool program then her previous one.

I appreciate the cleanliness of the locker rooms and the organization of the equipment. The view is amazing and the staff are friendly. My husband and I recently inquired about the personal training program. We look forward to participating in that after the holidays.

Awesome coaches who teach good sportsmanship. I am also impressed with the drills and skills instructions given to the children to empower them to learn to play each sport.

We have loved our camp experience! My son has gotten to try many new things and has been able to enjoy the outdoors. Thanks camp friends!

Absolutely horrible experience today at this YMCA that Ive been to so many times . first they tell me they are not accepting Charlotte resident .then they tell me that I had to have made an appointment to work out but theyll let me work out today for 30 minutes cuz their hours changed and close at 7 so then when I get to the weight room I am harassed by one of the staff members that looks like a crackhead with glasses and followed me around telling me all these different rules then told me they close at 6:55 instead of 7 like they told me downstairs then stood by me and demanded that I put my weights down at exactly 6:55 and that it was time to go

The instructors and very helpful and friendly! I love the y! Its inspiring me to become more healthier and fit! Never thought Id have so much fun exercising! Thank you all so much! Plus the facility is beautiful and has everything i could need!

This place is beautiful!!! I have never heard of it until yesterday when my wife signed our daughter into Swim & Gym program. I never expected anything this nice in Gastonia. I was truly impressed.

The Gaston Family YMCA offers a very pleasant and inviting family atmosphere. There are a variety of activities to engage in. It’s good clean fun for everyone!! We enjoy our time there being healthy, being competitive, and building friendships. It’s worth the investment! —L.Staley

I could ask for a better place to send my daughter for after school and summer camp. She has been going for the past few years and we love it!!!

Great gym. I travel and utilize a lot of Ys around the country, this particular one far exceeds the others I have been to. The staff is courteous as well, it deserves a big fat gold star.

Ive been going to this Y since it opened In Dec of 2017. I really enjoyed it until the basketball goals started to mess up. The basketball goals/rims gradually lower down. Ive told many workers at the front desk to tell maintenance and management. Its been 4 plus months and the goals are still not fixed. We have to request that the front desk raise them everyday we go to play ball. We pay all this money to have a small basketball court and defective equipment. Also child watch is super expensive and the kids have to be outside all day in 95° degree weather. Our kid was sun burnt because no worker told us we needed to pack sunscreen or that they would be outside. Then when we did send sunscreen they didnt use it and he was burnt again. Once again because no one told us it had to be spray sunscreen....No communication with our childrens health and well-being at risk and defective equipment. SMH........

An amazing place. Wonderful exercise classes with well trained and personable instructors. The lake setting provides beauty everywhere you look. Super aquatics and lake front kayaks. Gastonia is fortunate to be given this gift.

Great facility and friendly staff. Well worth attending. If there is one complaint it is the swim lessons. The sessions are 25 minutes long which is fine for the price. The problem is for 15 minutes of that time your child is standing on the side waiting for an instructor to cycle back through.All in all we watched maybe ten minutes of instruction and the remainder of the time was just my child being bored waiting. Definitely recommend going somewhere else for swim lessons.

This is 5 stars facility with great amenities but is not flexible enough. No other complaint

Very reasonably set rates depending on your family size.Very clean facility and nice staff.Awesome play center for children 6-12 yrs old. My daughter loves going.Great & reasonably priced events every mth, such as “Parents Night Out”.Sometimes can be a little crowded, however not to the point that there’s no equipment available.

I look forward to a vigorous workout at Warlick and enjoy the various comfort zones to relax alone as well as with others.

I went there for the GO Gaston Kickoff. Although I didnt go into the building I did experience quite a bit from the outside. A beautiful area to walk, a spectacular view of the lake, and watched a soccer game at the field. The location had an excellent kayaking facility as well.

I love the actual facility of the YMCA for exercise but I would not recommend the Afterschool Care. Kristy is one of the adults at the Robinson Elementary site and has had a bad attitude with me as a parent from day one. She has always treated me differently than the other parents and recommended her supervisor call DSS on me about my child instead of calling me as a parent. I have done nothing wrong to my child and I go above and beyond to care for my child. I make sure he is properly supervised when in my care. Anyone who knows me knows what I do as a parent and no outsider will take that away from me!

Staff are rude and not very knowledgeable about events and going ons. I go there to play basketball and the court is too small for the community. Also, the court is not very well maintained and the goals are almost always low.

Nice and clean, but the staff is pretty rude. Front desk people act like youre bothering them. Old woman in child watch seems very cold. I left my 6 month old there and about 20 minutes later, they had to come get me because she wouldnt stop crying. She hardly ever cries. Got there and the old woman was just sitting with her on her lap. No toys, no trying to soothe. Just rolling her eyes at my crying baby and quickly handed her back over. I definitely wont be taking my daughter back with me.Also, actual work out area is not very spacious. Limited number of machines and it feels like everyone is on top of each other. Pool is FREEZING.I will say that they have a good variety of classes and the instructors seem fun.

The machines are high tech and brand new. Not to mention they work well. The pools are both huge and the collection of free weights and exercise machines is massive. Other than that, the staff is very polite and the facilities are always clean.

Beautiful facility. Id say this is by far the best gym I’ve ever joined. My 6 yo son LOVES the play place they have in their childcare! I’m never quitting this place!

I contacted this Y months ago and asked if I was eligible for a discout as a 100% disabled OIF US Army Veteran.....their response. NO. Not unless I went to the facility and filled out finacial paperwork (which is embarrassing in the very least).Interestingly enough when I was a Police Officer I only paid $1 a month at the Albemarle NC YMCA. This Y wont get a red cent of my money and their is NOTHING Christian about their establishment.

Why are so many single adult males using the family lockers to change or store personal items? I walked in with my 5 year old this morning, and an older male was changing right in front of us. He dropped to his underwear.Please monitor this closely! It’s not okay

Beautiful building with special people at the front desk. I met Ms. Teresa and she was awesome in helping me become a member. A very friendly staff of others the front also.

The parking is horrible for handicap people, it needs to be closer to the door! The basketball gym is awful because it’s so small and as long as I’ve been a member my family has not been able to play basketball because it’s always over crowded! To do anything on the lake is very expensive and when we already pay so much for a membership it shouldn’t be! The pool is nice but it’s full of classes all the time which I understand the need for that, but maybe there should be a pool specifically for classes. That way other people can still swim in the other pool while classes are going on. This ymca is just so much smaller and it’s the ONLY one here and that just doesn’t make since! If you still had the other ymcas open and didn’t shut them down this one would be fine. It’s just not feasible for our community being how big it is and How small this ymca is.

I got an email saying if I didnt pay a gym membership for $35.00 that I havent used since feburary it will be sent to a collection agency. So the Y.M.C.A has turned into a shady company too now. They are really wanting to mess up peoples credit over a gym membership well good thing I can pay for what I want in cash. They should change the slogan too we use to help people now we hurt people.

I agree with the others . The old guy at check in desk was rude and not helpful . He wanted me to pay 20$ just to workout one time and that’s unheard of my membership at planet fitness is 20$ a month but I can’t swim there . I couldn’t even tour the place because there was no one there to walk me through it but they expected me to buy a membership of something I’ve never saw. I heard that there was free enrollment but it’s a month away . The financial aid website was down and he wanted proof of income and I had none because I been doing odd jobs because my truck was stolen and I didn’t have full coverage so since I’m self employed that didn’t work anyways. Maybe I’ll try back when someone else is working hopefully .

The facilities are nice, but are way too small for the amount of people in the community that go there. Wish they would followed the Dowd YMCAs floorplan in downtown Charlotte. The free weight area alone at Dowd is as big as the whole gym at Warlick

Child care constantly has a wait due to understaffing and no one seems to care. It’s also unfortunate for the teenage workers because they have to deal with frustrated parents. You cannot promote family wellness when you cannot accommodate parents needs because you can’t keep good employees

One of my favorite Ys to visit. I actually make it part of my vacation any time I visit Belmont with family.

Of course this place is nice and new, but there are several design features that I question. Like who puts a running track upstairs that people are constantly Crossing back and forth over to get paper towels or to get to other facilities in the building? Also not very much room for free weights or machine weights. As just for a gym this place is very subpar. The good things of it is the pools although I wish they would have added a hot tub somewhere. And the Kids Play Place facility. They put a coffee shop in there that looks like they had nothing else to do with the wasted space. I think I would have rather put it out in the middle of the floor as like a coffee coffee and snack bar filled with protein shakes and snacks along with coffee are Frappuccinos or whatever people would want when theyre just hanging out. $8000000 facility and not enough room for 200 people to work out at a time comfortably. I just dont understand the logic of it. Ive paid a lot less for better gyms in my time

This is a great gym with many different programs and activities for all people. Clean facility and friendly staff.

I have experienced rudeness by the staff two times. The first was when I went in, and I thought the lady was just having a bad day, but then I called and got someone else at the front desk just as hateful and ignorant about her job. I wont be back. I miss the old people at the front desk before they moved.

PROS: The facility is new & beautiful, and the machines are nice. The child care team is great & courteous, and the big kids playground is awesome. CONS: The customer service is not good and make you feel that they are doing a huge favor for you, instead of making you feel like a valued customer. Ive seen other people notice that as well, but I wonder if they are just overwhelmed with the amount of people coming in every day. They have been gradually downgrading all of the benefits and changing the policy just so they can go over capacity. And no one likes an overcrowded gym. No one likes bait and switch.

Beautiful facility sized perfectly for the beautiful neighborhood it is in. Unfortunately that design strategy wont work as long as it is the only YMCA in this community of over 80,000 people.

Awful building idea. Parking is horrid, inside is small, and basketball court is a joke. Weight room is embarrassing and track around machines is just plain stupid. They have a stand alone fire place in the middle of the lobby?? Like whos idea was it to close 2 YMCAs to funnel all the members into a smaller Y?? just awful design should be embarrassed id much rather go to clovers Y or Belmont. Dont get me started on the customer service...its a joke. smart mouthed old wrinkly women.

I called to see about the programs they had on the lake and the woman on the phone said I couldnt rent any kayaks unless it was the weekend and I had to be a member. But never gave any Info about memberships or why I should be or any other lake fun.

Great classes, staff and pool! The day care options work perfectly for my family.

Great to have the variety of class times...early morning gets me pumped up to face the day, and looking forward evening classes gets me through the work day! Lots of choices keeps exercise from being boring.

Fantastic employees make the Y an enjoyable place to work out. Best part is the racquetball courts.

For the money it costs it should stay open later on weeknights and weekends. Very inconvenient. May be spending to much money in employees that just stand around and are not needed.

Now that the Y is here the lake is no longer accessible to the public so there is no where in the immediate area to swim or take the family. This is a shame and a great loss to the general population here.

Me. Barbara Has a nasty attitude act like you bothering her and doesn’t make you feel welcome makes you feel like you shouldn’t be here . And too many activities are at the pool .No free swim time .

They dont have late enough hours and swimming is occupied by classes most the time.

It really makes me angry to see grass planted where parking should be! Lockers, who did that? What were you thinking? You had all the info from old facility, but you ignore all of it.

Slam packed waited an hour for a machine. Parking lot was jammed up as well. Ridiculous just ridiculous
