I called before going over to ask if they have artists tape, 1/4 & 1. They did, so I picked it up. See my pics of each. I use it to frame my paper before drawing my picture. I love the feel of this store, its like walking into a real old-time cabin. But its larger. He explained they carry more supplies for drafting/architects due to the corporate stores now. Unique lamps decorate the store and actually offer a museum quality to its interior. I enjoyed my visit, and saw a couple other artists tools that Ive never seen before, and struck my interest for a future visit. The customer service from this gentleman was very appropriately accommodating, pleasant, and cordial. Thank you. -Mya

I hope you guys make it, but yesterday I got in my car and drove to Soma to pick up some oil pain supplies, based on their website which said their hours started at 11:00, and the place was closed.... at quarter after 11 I called and a man said “actually, i’m Doing laundry,” so I went somewhere else. If your website says you are going to open, you should be open, or lose customers who might have become loyal to you, and, as in my case, people who come there and it ends up it was a wasted trip.

This place is a mess. Its NOTHING LIKE THE IMAGES! ! do not be fooled. Its now a tiny, cramped, hot hole-in-the-wall behind a wood workshop.. There is NO supplies displayed and everything is in the boxes still covered in sawdust and dust. The minimal supplies there were subpar and bent, damaged, and stained. The floors and doors are not safe and I nearly twisted my ankle on the beat up rug at the door... If youre allergic to dog dander youll have a hard time here. I will never come back to this place. I gave one star because I appreciate an artist trying to make their living without giving into big businesses.

SoMa is such an amazing and important part of Gainesville. Celino is such a friendly guy, who makes such incredible light fixtures. Was an absolute pleasure coming in and talking with him! Stop in some time and support a local business!

Photos are NOT AT ALL correct!? I was so confused when I got here, because the photos show a REAL STORE. Its actually just a messy room with no AC and a few art supplies for sale. Nothing like the photographs show and nowhere nearly as many supplies. Barely had the basics.

They pretty much put students between a rock and a hard place. on the one hand they are the one of the few dedicated art stores that sells architecture supplies and i like the idea of supporting local businesses as a local myself. but that sympathy goes out the window when i see the enormous price mark ups they make on their stuff. Its honestly ridiculous. I recall buying a sheet of plywood from them for $22 and across town at another store they sell that exact same sheet for $4. on some items they are slightly pricey but on others its just too much. I know they are a business and are not here to give handouts but i dont know how they can justify some of the ridiculous prices they have when the same items can be bought much cheaper elsewhere. In the end however they sometimes are the only store that has what i need which is the only reason why i go there anymore otherwise i try to buy my supplies from other stores or online. They have us students beat and they know it.

Do yourself a favor an order materials online. The owner of this business is an absolute child. He closes whenever he feels like it and hangs up on customers. Ever since the other supply companies closed this guy has acted like a 5 year old. Ill never spend another dime here. Do your yourself a favor and order online.

A little pricey but worth it, I rather spend $1 more on a paint brush and support local artists who give a damb than give it to a corporation. overall, The staff is friendly and the materials are nice quality, my only complaint is that they have a limited stock.

This art store use to be good at one point, but 3 weeks after magnum wood has close they have become worse than magnum wood in there pricing; i have been buying from soma since they open and im very disappointed in the fact that they have one price on there items but when you pay it is a very different price, and if i was you i would get the items at another store that is not over pricing everything they sell, is like they think we don’t know how much this things are worth, i have been buying art supplies for over 4 years now, about ones a month so yeah i know about pricing and i know that most of this prices are not going up (like any store prices go up but they do not go up 3 to 4 times as much of what they actually cost trace paper was mark by soma to be at 6 dollars they dint take there pricing off, 2 week later i need it more trace paper and it was now 13...... i got it from them and as i was in the store i say man this is really expansive to my self.... one of the owners hear me saying this and mention we have the best prices try finding it in another store lol broo no you dont.. ps dont worry about replying to me you lave lost my business and the business of those around me.
