We visited Skyline Caverns when we were on a camping trip in Front Royal. It has ample parking and has a very well-stocked gift shop. Our tour lasted for a good 45 minutes and was hosted by a young lady called Audrey who enthralled our young son. This natural wonder is well worth a visit if you’re in the Front Royal neighbourhood. For the disabled people it is quite a hike down and back up with stairs at the end. Great value for money.
Loved this place. Was here a week ago as an anniversary present for my girlfriend. Teagan was a great guide. Masks are required during the tour which is amazing. Not a lot of people follow guidelines theses days. The place is so beautiful and the history lesson on the place is very interesting. Thanks for the awesome experience!
Absolutely incredible cave and tour (Audrey was a fantastic guide!). We were so glad we randomly ended up here instead of one of the larger more advertised caves. Skyline has formations that exist only 3 other places in the world! The hour-long tour is a perfect length and the views inside are incredible.
Awesome tour and guide. Beautiful lighting in the caverns. Enormous gift shop. Top notch operation with super friendly and accommodating staff! Fair price when compared to other caverns in the area... Caverns felt like they were just discovered and not too commercialized which is what makes the experience better. Glad we planned this stop on the way home from our weekend in the Shenandoah area. Wouldnt hesitate to return in the future! Highly recommend it if youre in the area with an hour or two to spare...
This was my first time at any caverns. It was a very beautiful place. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour fun. The prices were not bad for the length and sights you will experience. The gift shop was way more than what was expected. From kids tours to shirts and did I mention...STONES!!! We deal a lot in healing and protection stones through our Paranormal team and let me tell you, this location nailed it. From their selection to their prices, you wont find any better. We have a stone shop in NY, a couple in PA, and no we have one in VA!!!
Really nice place. I like our tour guide. She really nice. There is one part that she sang. She was good. My two year liked it. Just remember there 61 steps to go up to go out.
If you are in the area, this place is surely a must see. The caves are beautiful and were quite a sight to see. The staff was very friendly and they knew what they were talking about. Our tour guide, Audrey, was very kind, very knowledgeable, and very patient. The price was right for what we received and the tour length was just long enough for those of us that arent all that geologically inclined as some. The facts were interesting and it was wonderful to learn so much!
This place ROCKS! Ha! Seriously though, I am a rock nerd but this place was awesome. Good tour, good guides, fair price. We went early morning in the middle of the week and there was only one other person on the tour. Masks on at all times, felt super safe. The rare crystal formations are unbelievable and the cavern itself is so so so cool. I was very impressed!
The cavern tour was great! Our 3 boys really enjoyed it! The mirror maze was too cool! Definitely a must. Id have given 5 stars but the miniature train ride was closed. Our kids were really looking forward to that. I even called a week before our trip (were 2 hrs. away) and made sure everything was going to be open and was told yes, so I was very disappointed that we didnt get to do all the activities. I was told that the train has been broken for several weeks, so Im not sure why the person on the phone told me it was open. Either way, we had a great time and now we have a reason to return one day! I did feel like the staff could have been a bit friendlier.
Love it. There wasnt many people & we had to wear our mask the entire time. It was great. Definitely bring your jacket to the caverns. Only thing I did not like was the steps but other than that it was great experience & will be going again.
Our tour guide, Billy, was fantastic, extremely kid and question friendly. This place is a family friendly facility unlike its better known competitors down the road in Luray. Though if you have time for only one take this over Luray. The exploration is fun and educational. The staff treat you like family not just a a pay check. The caves, underground river and natural wonders are beyond belief. The mini train was also a hit with my son.
I really enjoyed the Cavern Tour. The tour guide, Audrey, really made the tour interesting and fun!
I think my wife and I liked this one better than the Luray caverns. Well worth the visit. It is a guided tour which is good and bad, we like to take our time and look at everything. It was nice though having someone to answer any of your questions.
Skyline Caverns was wonderful. The gift shop is adorable. The caverns themselves are very interesting. Not as big as other caverns, but they kick up the fun with several colored lights. They also have some unique mineral formations, and under ground streams. The staff is also wonderful. They have a wishing well, but I didnt have any change on me. Our tour guide Josh was kind enough to give my kids a few pennies to throw in. It only cost a few cents, but it was really a huge thing for my kid. He was also very funny, and very patient with our group.
Not as big as Luray but it was perfect and they still give guided tours! I loved it
A very neat little cave with interesting back story. Our guide was very helpful and offered lots of information. The gift shop area was also very nice.
Great tour from Teagan! If youre into caves, youll dig it! Parking lot was shady for the pup in the RV too!
Very nice! Great having a guided tour! Have a bunch of anthodites that you can see up pretty close. Only a very few places in the world have them.
Its been around a long time. Reminds me of going there as a child, not much had changed.Nice hour guided tour with history lesson.Nice gift shop for the kids.
An awesome place to visit. Caves are always cool to check out. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. She had some great corny jokes to tell. Definitely made the tour better. The tour itself is about an hour long and goes about 260 feet underground.
Our second time there. Always a good experience, everyone is friendly, the groups are kept small enough that it doesnt feel like a crowd, and so far we havent had a bad wait-time at all, just enough time to stroll through the cute little shop. Our guide this time was a young lady who just started a few weeks ago and yet she was very well-versed in the caverns history and was able to answer any questions we had. She kept the tour light and funny and added to our experience. This time we also did the mirror maze- which is super cute, and the nature trail. This is a gem of a little spot to spend the day and learn about cool little facts about our town!
Neat place. Commercial obviously making it not as neat as real caving but fun nonetheless. The tour guide can definitely impact how much you enjoy it.
Went to skyline caverns today for the first time. Was a great first experience. The tour guide Jordan was patient, and informative. Answered everyones questions. Tour group was a nice small size. I liked the fish pond in the caverns and the anthodites. All the staff at the shop were nice.Would come back to do the caverns again and do the nature trail that is outside the building.
One of the best things about summer is being able to take a long drive and explore new things. I heard great things about the Skyline Caverns, but have never been. So, I journeyed out today.Above ground is a huge gift store with a hugely diverse set of souvenirs, mineral trinkets, and artisan craft. Theres a parking lot outside, and a mirror maze that you can go through as a side event to the cavern tours. Although a bit expensive, the tours are definitely worth the trip.Inside the caverns, the tour guides expertly talked to different structures inside the cave, some history, and even was able to answer obscure questions about the science of minerals and geography. The tour lasts about an hour long, and each cave room has something different to see. The temperature inside the cave is between 50-60 degrees, so you may want to bring a hoodie or light jacket. Unfortunately, people with poor knees and mobility issues may find it hard to navigate through the caves and up the final climb of stairs (48 of them) out of the cave. This is no fault of the tours, however. You can tell that extensive work has been put into making the caves safe for people.I truly recommend going here for the experience - its unique to other caves around the world and is a great place for bonding with friends and family alike during the hot season.
Skyline Caverns was amazing! When you get there, there’s a rustic gift shop with memorabilia, shirts, sweatshirts, crystals, jewelry, etc.. some old photos to give you some history of the cave. When we arrived, we waited about 20 minutes for the next tour. I brought a sweatshirt as the temperature is a bit cooler inside the cave (~50°F), or you can buy one inside the shop. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. The entire tour lasts about 1 hour. You explore with the guide, and pause every few feet to understand the rock formations, ponds, gems and other interesting facts. He also turned on & off lights at various parts. Some areas were very steep, so wear sneakers or shoes with good traction. Also, some areas had low ceilings that you had to crouch down and some were spacious.I loved this adventure! Got some pretty cool photos too..
Theyve upgrade the place since I was last there about 10 years ago. Its a great experience and a short excursion from the DC area. If you go, plan to spend the entire day there because there is much to do. However, the eating selection is a little bit limited so you may want to go somewhere else unfortunately. Give them a try!!!
Nice cave. This is a very young cave compared to many in the area so there are not as many formations but we liked the more personal tour and unique parts like the live fish. Worth the visit.
Interesting cave; able to see evidence of the water and rock movements that led to the cave as it is today. Unique crystalline salt formations which developed in a partial vacuum that existed in the cave before human involvement.
This place! Wow was I impressed! Staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable! We came for the caverns and the mini train. Unfortunately the mini train was not running due to maintenance. It might be down for a while so it would be a good idea to call first if its important to you. Our guide was Jordan. Jordan was friendly and extremely knowledgeable! He was very patient with answering all our questions. Kids and adults alike will enjoy this amazing attraction!
Ive been on plenty of cavern tours. The lighting in these is especially well done, and the anthodites are definitely unique. Its less expensive than some other cavern tours in the area, and the guided tour only takes about an hour, so it made a nice stop on the way to Shenandoah National Park.
Such an amazing cavern. My wife and I came here the other day as part of our anniversary weekend. Weve done Luray for years and wanted to see and do something different. After a quick search on the magic Google box we found a few other caverns within an hour or so from us.Upon arrival it didnt seem like much. A old building or two with mini train sign. We went in and paid for our ticket. Since we had a few minutes before our tour would begin we walked around the shop and checked out what they had. There were some interesting items some of which included a bunch of skull decorations.Once our tour was called we went down into the first part of the cavern with Jordan our tour guide. He seemed knowledgeable and answered any question he was asked. The tour took about an hour and was very informative and very personable. Who knew that there was an actual reason for using colored lighting...if youre not sure what that reason is well take the tour and find out.
Pretty cool caverns. The lights make the formations come alive. Length of tour was perfect.
Tour was the bomb!Great tour guide / very knowledgeable! Family friendly
Great example of a cave eventhough its technically a cavern. Guided tours and very nicely done. Good compliment to Luray. Tour guide was great!
The cavern is historical, mostly natural and very few man made things. Tour guide was knowledgeable snd fun. Fun for kids. Would not recommend to bring strollers since it has lots of up and down during walking, even though it is allowed. Loved it. We also did miniature train ride which was awesome.
We arrived at 9am when they opened and were in the first guided tour of the day at 9:20. It was the 2 of us and a family of 3 for a total of 5 visitors on the tour. This allowed for easier viewing of the stalagmites and stalactites, as well as the anthrodites, which are super cool and unique. They had several spots with flowing water and even one small lake with trout in it (which are not naturally there). Overall, I believe the tour lasted shortly over an hour, but with a larger group, like the one that was entering when we were leaving, I imagine it could take up to two hours for the entire your. Dress warm as the caverns are approximately 54°F year-round, as they are at a depth of 200 ft to 400 ft below the surface. The tour starts and ends in their gift shop.Unfortunately, we didnt have time to check out their other attractions, such as the dragon maze or hiking trails. Regardless, the caverns were amazing in and of themselves!
So incredibly amazing! If your claustrophobic or just dont like confined areas, I would avoid taking the tour down into the caverns. But certainly visit the shop and look around. Beautiful area!!
Very nice tour guide. The employees in the gift shop were nice too. Clean bathrooms. Just an all around good place to go for something to do and to learn something new.
One hour cave tour. Cool and unique stuff. Good stories. Good gift shop. There are a few stairs to climb at the very end and the caverns get a bit chilly. Wear a sweater.
Lady tour guide was great & very informative but the caverns are really not spectacular like other ones located further south. Tall male employee with glasses that sold us tickets kept staring at my girlfriend while waiting for tour to start. Was very unprofessional & made her feel uncomfortable. They should not have someone like this dealing with the public.
Exactly what you would expect. Smells like nostalgia, looks like nostalgia, sounds like nostalgia. Exactly what my family needed in 2020!The caverns are beautiful and the tour has a couple of really interesting back stories.
Great visit. Able to socially distance. Must wear a mask - which I appreciated! Tours are smaller sizes to keep things safe. Staff is very friendly!
Prices were reasonable. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Allowed as much time as needed to get as many photos as we wanted.
Wonderful place. Can view nature of Gods creation. Very clean and very well oganized. The tour guide was wonderful in explaining and cracking jokes. She was the best respectful girl. Keep it up.
Small group tours. Seems like a small cavern but it goes on for a while, natural and beautiful.
Ive never been to see caverns. It was a nice tour and our guide Lilly was awesome
Excellent tour. The rare anthodite formations are amazing!
Been here several times over the last 3 decades. Always love. The big draw during the summer is the constant cool temp. (Take a sweater if the cold bothers you) only other tip for the caverns is good traction shoes. I went in flip flops and survived but better traction would be great. Lol
I loved the your and our guide was funny, knowledgeable and made our trip special ! Shout out to Virginia!
Best cavern tour we have been on, Mary our tour guide was awesome. We were never rushed, she knew the answer to everyones questions and had a great attitude. It is not the biggest cavern system, but the price was very reasonable compaired to some of the other more commercialized caverns weve been to. Thanks for a great time.
Awesome cavern. The tour guide was funny and informative. The cavern has breathtaking views. The gift job is beautiful. Great family visit.
Not as exciting as other caverns. In my opinion this location is not worth the cost of admission. Does have 1 unique rock formation though.
Fun family day place. Some of the other attractions need some updating but still enjoyable.
Very informative tours. Thank you for such a wide-eye opening experience!!
Well worth the money. Amazing outlooks, trails and campgrounds. Cant wait to go back to Virginia
Beautiful place, nice shop with jewelry and gems. Photo- June, 2020
I should have called before heading out there, but groups were larger than 10 and no one was separated over 6 feet. Although everyone wore masks, they definitely made it clear that ventilation was poor within the cave. I would have postponed if I was aware of these limitations. As an active adult, the guided tour was a little slow-paced for me, and it was clear that human activity was leading to some destruction of the cave w mold and moss throughout. I would not go again or recommend friends to make the drive to go either. I think perfect for kids, but be prepared this isnt Carlsbad.
Delightful tour. Very v educational
Great caverns with even better formations of crystals, stalactites, and stalagmites. Great tour guides. A great activity and even better when its hot outside. The caverns are cool all year round!
Excellent. Smaller than other caverns--which made the tour more personal. Wonderful people. Ive been to Luray and Grand caverns. Skyline is just as good. Just different. With rare formations.
Enjoyed our vacation and this was a big highlight for my kids.
Everyone was very nice and friendly. The tour lasted about an hour.
This place was amazing! The tour guide was so awesome. She was sooo funny! My family and I drove from Massachusetts just to visit this cavern. I highly recommend it. These were just a few of the million pictures we took lol
Fun. Informative. Super interesting. Lots of beauty.
Bring a jacket, even in the summer! Slightly cheaper than Luray Caverns and a different experience, worth going to! Be prepared to walk, but there is a lot of stopping because the tour guide talks and you can take lots of pictures. I wouldnt expect a child under 7 to really appreciate it but wouldnt hurt to have them with you. There are fish and lots of rainbows and shadows. The gift shop is neat to look at too
Beautiful caverns, interesting tour.
The tour was excellent. The tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. Not as large as Luray caverns, but the tour guide experience, the multicolored lights throughout the cave, and the old fashioned atmosphere made it just as fun!
Very unassuming place from the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the caverns and the staff. The host and receptionist were both kind and knowledgeable.
We went there on a Saturday afternoon and we had a great time. The tour is about an hour and easy to walk. Our guide was great and always good to understand. I have seen a lot of caves but this one still had a unique suprises for me. I can recommend a visit.
Different than any other cavern Ive seen. Beautiful rock formations all from water running through.
Each cavern i have visited in Virginia is different so is definitely worth it to go visit this places
Beautiful caverns, tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining as well!! Definitely a must see!!
Great place! Has some interesting history and its the only place here in the Shenandoah valley as far as I know that has anthrodites. Definitely worth the visit especially if you dont like big touristy places.
The most interesting of the caverns Ive been in so far, the history is amplified by the beauty the caves offer. Our tour guide was a awesome guy, we had fun listening to him and answering his trivia questions. Gift shop was also very nice, def. Want to come back again.
It was OK the wife couldnt make it the whole way through. Shes doesnt like closed dark places. Could use some more lighting
Did everything: caverns, train, maze, shop, and prepackaged ice cream goodies. Very nice people working there. Cavern tour is done in smallish groups. Maybe 15 people in ours. Takes an hour. If you cant go up 61 steps dont do it. Its a great first cavern adventure. Perfect for 4 year old. Well lit and easy to walk. Train is fun for young kids. Otherwise can be skipped. Our 4 year old boy liked it. It takes about 10 mins, maybe a little more. It is a gas or diesel train so you do get some nose and smoke smell. We sat in the front though and it wasnt overwhelming. The dragon maze is also best for young kids. Worth it if you have some. Its in a separate air conditioned building. Decent amount of free parking. There are bathrooms and a shop.
Awesome experience and was able to see the crystals without the net! Thanks to National Geographic being there taking photos!
Excellent visit. Beautiful caverns. Virginia did a great job and was a very knowledgeable tour guide.
The tour was great and had very fun and informed staff. Great cavern overall and lots of interesting parts.
This place has friendly staff and beautiful caves, for a decent price. The tour takes about and hour and runs through a large variety of cave scenery. There are 3 underground streams along the tour, 1 of which is home to some fishes. Many of the cave formations are also lit up by colored lights, adding some flair to the natural beauty.
Very nice, good informative guides
We were truly and pleasantly surprised at the beauty and geological grandeur of what I presumed was a simple cavern. Our guide, Josh, did an excellent job at presenting the history and features of this cavern.
It was interesting! Very unique formations compared to other caverns in the area. The gift shop was like a step back in time which was fun.
Wasnt busy when we came. It was a older building. Had a free walking museum above that was very interesting. The walk inside wasnt very difficult but did have some areas to duck and careful while walking. the guide was informative and extremely nice. Would definitely recommend. Quiet area and not much around the caverns.
Staff was very friendly and courteous. Well kept and clean. Caverns were interesting an awesome experience and beautiful formations. Our tour guide Lily was very informative and lively. There were a few steep areas to walk through so if you have limitations in walking or climbing stairs I do not recommend the tour.
20 minute tour stretched out to an hourSome amazing geological formations which they tried to enhance with colored lights making an entertaining enterprise but an unnatural phenomenon which cheapens this cavern into just another tourist trap worth $5, not $22.
Very cool experience. Guides were super knowledgable & friendly. Dont forget to tip them! :)
What a beautiful cave to visit! It’s worth your hour to see such an amazing place. Our guide was fun and knowledgeable! My kids, 3 and 5, loved it! We will for sure come again!
It was small but very beautiful... The tour guide was new,bit was very confident and passionate about the caves
Great place to visit if you are in the area. Less expensive than some of the other cavern locations and kids under 13 are half price. The tour of the cavern was very informative and lasted just over an hour. They have some very interesting mineral formations that are unique to that cave.
Beautiful unique cave with amazing anthodite formations! Josh was our guide and hes nice and funny and very knowledgeable. Really different from the other local caves. Worth a visit!
Funny and interesting. Nice guide named Virginia, a/k/a Katie.
So fun
Excellent caverns with a shop worth shopping at. Great tour with a knowledgeable guide, kids had a blast looking at the caves and the natural formations. Highly recommend if you have an hour and half.
Skyline Caverns is an awesome place to visit. My son is 5 yrs and he enjoyed going through the different areas of the caverns, looking at the different formations and looking at the crystals that where on the ceiling.
Caverns and shop are awesome! Like this spot much better than Luray. Its on par with Shenandoah Caverns.
Awesome experience w/very knowledgeable tour guide!
Nice day out! Great guides!
Mini train access only? Hmm no. needs a rethink
