Course was kinda dry today and it had been recently aerated. the greens were shaggy as hell but thats to be expected after recently aerating. but the overall experience was great. The holes are a lot of fun and are very forgiving.. The nature on this course is great as we had a couple of groups of fawns just walk up on our hole to check things out. Plus the water fowl sightings were great too.. Sat around after the round with my family and had a couple of brews. Great atmosphere and friendly staff!
Great shape. Greens nice. Fairways looking good. Aprons need work. Pace of play excellent. 4
Nice course well taken care of, fair price. But my only down fall with this course and others, they jack their prices up on a holidays so the working perso cant enjoy a day on the golf without being punished for working. I will never play on a holiday price should be fair for all.
We played with a member who was very friendly. The fairways were in good shape. The tee boxes were in pretty good condition. The service staff, marshal and starter were all friendly. The bunkers had a fair amount of sand in them considering there are no rakes because of the pandemic. The rough was a little long in some places which made it hard to find balls if you missed the fairway. I dont know how much a golf course can do about this but there were several divots on the greens. Maybe a few signs around letting patrons know about golfers responsibilities?$65 for non-members on Sunday morning isnt a bad rate when you are surrounded by golf courses that are asking for ~$100. My friends and I will be back.
Cluster Spires is a great and reasonable priced place to play golf! The course is well maintained providing a challenging layout having numerous bunkers, difficult rough upon a scenic background. The staff are friendly and professional. During the virus the course provides a safe atmosphere and are extremely diligent with precautions to protect customers and employees. I am new to the area and now consider Clustered Spires my home golf course.I have been fortunate to recently have taken golf lessons from Scott Peterson, the Certified PGA Professional who is also the General Manager of Cluster Spires G.C. I have recently retired and looking to learn how to golf and have had multiple sessions with Scott. Scotts interpersonal skills and personality complement his golf coaching abilities. He is an effective teacher and provides valuable techniques, drills and guidance that is helping me in improving my struggling play. I feel extremely fortunate to have had Scott assist me learning the game of golf and will continue to use him for my golf lessons and goals to improve my skills and scores with this challenging game.
Great course! Pretty open fairways. Greens were in great condition. Pace of play was good too. Played 18 in just under 4 hours.
Drove 2 hrs to play this course get there in they say credit card onlyi understand thru these times were in but u could of said that when we called for a teetimevery disappointed.but drove down to willow springs n no teetime n payed cash had better time anyway
Senior friendly but fairways divot-y, fast greens.
If you like thick rough and wish to spend time hunting for your golf ball, this is the course for you. The rough is very penal so expect to lose a stroke when entering. Good practice facility although if you are on the driving range min the afternoon, you are looking into the sun. Have fun.
I live 10 minutes from the course and used to think it was a great track. Their practice facility used to be nice also, but they’ve closed the grass range for over a year( I realize weather can’t be stopped) but the mats are always soaked and the range balls are dirty and old. I loved practicing and playing here but not anymore. Their chip and put areas are still nice however. The course always seems to be in good shape but you better break out the big bucks if you want to play prime time. I don’t think it’s worth the money they ask for it. Over all not a bad course just wish they would ask reasonable prices and step up their game on the practice side.
Enjoyed the course, but did not care for the marshall. He advised us to pick up the pace because there were two holes open in front of us and things were backing up behind us. However, we were six minutes early at the starters stand and did not see anyone on the first hole at all which makes me think we started two holes behind the group in front of us.Furthermore, the group behind us was not even close to pushing us. Usually, we were off the green before they even reached the tee box. We finished the round in 4:15. Thats not a slow round, especially for a public course where you frequently have to look for your ball if you miss the fairway because the rough is so high.
The customer service is the worst I’ve ever had!!! They indignantly denied a request for a simple accommodation for a player with ALS Lou Gehrig’s disease. DON NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
Been playing here for years, never really had a bad experience. Course was in good shape, but between the grumpy pro, lurking rangers - not going back for a while :(
Was quite disappointed for the money. Greens had been aerated with no prior warning, fairways sparse.
Greens were in great shape.
Play Crusty all the time. Great course, great staff!
Course was in good shape.
Course is average difficulty with minimal elevation some water and not too many bunkers. Greens and fairways are in excellent shape. Very good value.
Played today Mon.11/11,Veterans day. Was charged$65 asked why Veterans fee was not allowed M-F $37. Told by staff Fredrick County makes the fee so had to pay holiday rate. What a rip off. Course was not in good shape (granular fertilizer on greens, ball mark holes everywhere, bunkers not raked and bare spot galore. This course is not worth $65 anytime
Nice course, in great shape, friendly staff.
Google says my reviews are popular (over 200 views!) So heres my take:I dont golf but i went with my mom today and it was a blast. I hit a birdie on hole 4 and had a pretty good drive on hole 9. Good time and also the weather was nice. Ill come back probably
Nice course, but we had poor service from the course management. Hot, humid weather 85 degrees they had a strict carts on cart path only rule. We had an 80 year old golfer in our group, they wouldnt allow him to use 90 degree rule. He ended up only being able to play 9 holes since they couldnt accommodate him. Worst customer service in 3 days of golf.
We were constantly harassed about our alcohol which I paid 40 dollars for a 12 pack. We were never warned about cart path only conditions and the ranger was super rude about it. The ranger on duty today was acting like he was protecting Augusta National on a Sunday. I will never go back. Average course with a trash staff. Any other course in the Maryland area would be a better experience.
Weather has hurt course conditions but the fairways, layout and greens are excellent. The staff is exceptionally courteous and the egg sandwich is best I have ever had. Worth a visit. Great group of golfing members. Played with daughter who is part of the Sunday group. Some excellent golfers who shoot in the 60s. Very talented lady golfers as well.
Very fair layout. Always in above average condition.
Very well kept. Good food, nice clubhouse facility. Many activities for all golfer levels. Polite and friendly. Just a great municipal course.
The course was in good shape considering how much rain we had gotten. It was cart path only. The greens were very nice, and the rough was low, made playing enjoyable. Staff was friendly, pace of play was good. I observed that everyone was leaving the flag in, it does speed up play.
Course in good shape.
Beautiful Course
8 of us are on a Father’s Day golf trip and this is a course I would urge you NOT to play. We had an older player and the course would not allow a 90 degree rule for him. When I asked before the round they laughed and said 85 is not old. He had to leave the course after nine holes and did not even refund his money. The course was dry and there was no reason not to accommodate him. The course is mostly clover and not worth playing. I told them they should be ashamed of themselves! Please never play this course!!!
Okay municipal golf course.
Good course. Fun layout. Easy scoring holes. Pretty short. Were nice to my 4 year old kid along for the ride. A little slow.
Golf course is in great shape.
Very nice golf course.
Staff sucks!
My hat off to the course superintendent, the course was in phenomenalshape (early April 2017). The fairways were lush and green. Oh, that doesnt help with the roll of your shots, but the grass was thick and lush with no divots to play out of.Our foursome remarked often about the conditions being grand. Pace of play, for a mid-Wednesday morning was just over 4 hours, very acceptable. The check-in and starter personnel were friendly, lots of fun banter. Will be back for sure. Great senior rates, very nice walking course if that is what you choose. It was a grand no hassle day of golf.Solid food choices for a lunch afterwards. It really was a 4.5 star course.
Very impressed, first time golfing here. Nice track, rough was very high but the greens were well maintained. Definitely coming back!
Clustered spires is a course that can fit any golf game that can bring you both your best or worst round. A generally friendly track aside from hole 5, 8, 9, and 16. Generally good conditions, greens have been on the slow side for early 2017, but warmer weather should change that soon. Per experience, great conditions in the summer and this course holds many fun and noteworthy tournaments.
Absolutely terrible staff. Extremely unprofessional, I was harassed and they threatened to eject me for wearing a polo shirt with a small college logo on it just because the starter went to a rival college. Then the marshall followed our 4some the entire match rushing us along even though we were within a stroke of the group in front of us. Unless you are scratch golfers and play fast dont bother.
Great with a caveat! The course is generally speaking in awesome shape, especially when they are preparing for tournament qualifying events. The rough is thick and the clover makes balls hard to find. The course is located right in the heart of Frederick, MD and the staff is extremely friendly. The thing that is annoying is that on Thursday mornings they close their driving range until 10 AM or so...despite it being light at 5:45 AM. Ive walked in multiple times and folks other than me have wanted to hit the range before work, but couldnt do it and they didnt have time to play actual holes, bummer. Why not open the range at 8 AM and get the maintenance out of the way earlier...?
Great golf course. Great staff.
Great place to play. Very nice people. Not too costly. Great practice facility.
NICE public course! Our company outing was here and not only was the course beautiful but the weather was excellent as well. Super friendly and helpful staff!
Nice manicured golf course
Absolutely horrible experience. They were starting everyone off on 10, which is no big deal at all. We saw a marshal on the first two holes...great, but then down hill from there. The pace was miserable, and we finished the front 9 in 2 1/2 hours. When we got to the 1st tee box to begin our back 9, there were two additional foursomes ahead of us. We asked the starter what was going on, and he said the one group had a tee time. I asked then why not start them off on 10 like everyone else, and he simply said No. Then the next foursome had stopped for lunch. No, they didnt stop and grab a hot dog and beer, they stopped and had a leisurely long lunch. We waited 35 minutes to start our bag 9. So after 3 hours and 5 minutes, we had officially completed only 9 holes. At that point, we complained in the pro shop, to a solid Oh well mentality, and we left and went and grabbed lunch somewhere else. $50 for 9 holes of golf in over 3 hours. NEVER AGAIN! I will say the staff at the grill were extremely nice, and prompt.
My husband took my 6 year old daughter here to play today and they wouldn’t let them out on the course. Originally they said to come back in 30 minutes so, they went out to hit some balls then came back in about 35 minutes later when they were told they were too late. My husband said he would pay for the both of them and said they wouldn’t hold anyone up. They were still told no. My husband said it’s because of her (my daughter) isn’t it? They just said “sorry” This is unacceptable and have lost our business. My husband used to be on the league here and has no plans to return. This is not the first time there has been an issue with this course. The staff/management should be ashamed of themselves.
Great course for the average golfer and the staff is friendly and very helpful. Love playing there.
Nice course. A few neat holes that make you think a bit. Water not too much of a factor. Rolling greens make long putts challenging.
Played back 9 last evening. Course is beautiful, greens in great shape, fee very reasonable, all around good experience!
The staff needs to work on people skills.....We were told we broke some rules before teeing off.( parked cart on concrete pad a driving range, hit a few balls a range out of there designated area) Which we apologized for. As i went to the first tee was told that it was cart path only and they would be watching us and if we strayed from the cart path we would be told to leave the golf course. The rough was like U.S.Open condition...You should be penalized not lose your ball. which happened several times in our group.I like the course overall but highly unlikely ill play again
Great public course. Good deal. Ill be back.
I played the course with a golfnow hot deal. The 17th hole is temporary due to a huge city construction project. The course appears to be in great shape other than that.
Awesome golf!
Great layout. Course is always in great shape. Greens were fast.
Best afordable golf in the area. Bill keeps fairways and greens in top shape. Friendly staff, Scott is one of the most approachable PGA pros you will ever meet.
The coarse was in good shape considering it is February. You can see how well cared for the greens are.
Well maintained. Hole 16 is currently out of service.
Other then 5.5 hours to play 18.course was in great shape
Very bad experience. There was no water on the fairways, or on the greens. Had to do cart path only. It slowed the game down greatly. I dont know what they were talking about when they said everything was wet. I had 2 wheels of my cart off the cart path so other carts could pass on the transition from the front 9 to the back 9 and the starter said, cart path only. With that kind of attitude, I can go to many other golf courses. Im finished with Clustered Spires.
This place is awesome. My second home when its warm. Great place to hone your game!
Staff couldnt be more helpful. Always a pleasure to play there.
Great value. Confidence building course. Great maintenance.
Good golf course. Players usually score well there.
A little pricey for a public course but still worth the challenge. Course is always in great condition.
Good course
Course in great shape. Reasonable rates.
Its a decent course but needs to be better maintained. Ive went several times and the grass was no at a proper height.
Best value in eastern Maryland. Personal favorite.
Nice course. Reasonable prices
I have played golf here for many years. The staff is very friendly and the location is great.
Normally love this course but a couple of holes are messed up for the monocacy bridge work
Great public golf experience
Nice, open, friendly course for the price.
