Very clean and well maintained store. Staff is very personable, knowledgeable, and friendly. The tanks have plenty of fish without being over crowded and were very well maintained. Their display tank is absolutely gorgeous. I would 100% recommend you check them out if you are looking for saltwater fish, invertebrates, or supplies!

Little shop packed full of aquarium finds. Lots of frags to choose from. Friendly staff, decent fish supply. Only minus is no prices on tanks you have to look on price sheet and match up, which is hard for me small print in a dark space. I came home with several corals, cleanup crew, and a shrimp.

My mom purchased three fish from here in the last few months that have died within days or weeks of unexplained illness (a starfish, watchman goby, and a flame angel.) All of her water parameters are perfect and the animals in her reef tank that had been purchased from a different store are all perfectly healthy so there’s really excuse for this and a common denominator is clear. The third fish was a flame angel (not cheap) and died of an infection within 72 hours of purchase. It was quarantined immediately upon showing signs of illness and treated with melafix but it didn’t make it. On the day of purchase the store employee was very rough with bagging it up and took water from different tanks to fill up the bag. Not saying this is what caused the illness but I can’t find any other explanation. The store showed no empathy and refused to refund or even exchange the fish. We started going to this shop earlier this year and service was generally friendly but I’ve noticed that some staff have left or have been let go and things have changed quite a bit.

What an awesome place for saltwater fish and coral. Walked in yesterday and was blown away by the huge display tank as well as their variety and selection. Tanks were clean, fish and coral were healthy. The place is lit enough for you to see where you are walking, but most.importantly it is not crammed. The owner Jarred (sorry if I misspelled) is a super nice guy with years of experience. If you are looking for an LFS that has quality saltwater fish you found your home. Loved it and will.definitely be returning. The 4 fish I got are stunners.

Im not usually leave bad reviews, but lets say thats the most expensive urchin if I consider that the shrimp was upside down when I get back home and the other 2 fishes died on the next day.I send a message to them and they asked me to bring my water to test, even when the shrimp was death when I get home and I just told them about the shrimp that same day, I didnt waste my time telling them about the other 2 fishes and I was not driving over an hr just to have them testing my water.I have over 4 years with my tank and same fishes since then, I test my water and parameters seems fine.I saw few fishes death on different tanks.I hope they can do it better for them, the customers and the fishes!

Really clean looking and smelling! They have an awesome selection of coral. They dont seem to treat their fish tanks with any sort of copper or antibiotics and their fish often look like they have velvet. Which is why I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5. As long as you quarantine before adding to your Dt you should be fine. Super friendly service so that is definitely a plus!

I dont have a saltwater aquarium, but my brother-in-law does and he only buys his supplies from Fintastic! I checked it out with my young daughter, and we had a blast! The employees were very nice and knowledgeable about the fish and corals that they carry! It was a great experience for my daughter and I and we will go back just to learn more about saltwater aquariums!

I have spent a lot of money that this place and there was an employee named Kathy who was always helpful, professional and always answered my questions, she was a pleasure to deal with and one day I went in and she was gone I was told she no longer worked there. She was actually fired and the new manager was trashing her in front of customers which is very unprofessional for any manager to do. I will no longer spend any money at this place and I hope no one does either.

There was a period of time this summer when this store was actually making a decent comeback from removing the previous general manager, however, once they added a new guy from Florida, things have returned to what it was when Paul was there, if not worse. Firstly, I would like to state that this man came from Florida and did not go into the 14 day quarantine mandated by the state of MD. Secondly, his general demeanor is very superficial and his kindness is forced, which made myself and several other customers uncomfortable. Third, he came in higher than a kite and reeking of marijuana. He also apologized to the employee working there that he had been running errands and that was why he was in so late, which in and of itself is very unprofessional, and add in that he was blitzed out of his mind made it even worse. Another customer requested having their water tested and instead of doing the testing for them, he turned to the employee and delegated that task to them, eventhough they were already working with 2 separate customers. Instead of recognizing that the employee was already busy and doing it himself, he walked away to the register area of the store and ignored the customers. I would also like to add that the selection of livestock has become deplorable. I have never seen a store with so many triggers, tangs, and other large fish and not cater to customers with smaller systems. The coral selection was abominable, many looked unhealthy or stressed and the newly fragged corals were dying and whomever cut them did not know what they were doing.All in all, this store was doing well until the previous owner started mismanaging it and was making a comeback for a short period of time until this new guy showed up. Now it appears to be making an even more rapid decline. The employees are miserable and stressed and look to be walking on eggshells. I would be surprised if it remained in business at the end of the year.

Paul has always given great service for the several years I have bought fish from him, first in his Rockville store, then in his first store in Frederick, and now on Rosemont. His staff are fish lovers and friendly too. I love his selection, and the email updates that he sends with stock lists. I have brought home many happy fishes and inverts from his store, all great additions to my tank. I never thought to review here before, but my last visit inspired me to let the world know that Fintastic Aquariums of Frederick lives up to its name!

I am really disappointed in Fintastics management. Apparently, due to mismanagement of Paul a guy name Jared from Florida was brought in. When I was there he bad mouthed employees that have taken care of me and taught me a ton over the last couple years. They kept Paul, I assume because he has contacts locally and has the salesperson vibe down but he has never been a big help to me with the troubles I have had over the years starting out in the hobby. Just with selling me stuff. Cathy was such a big help to me. She even came to my house a couple times to help me with what I thought were emergencies. I will have to take my business somewhere else if the new management treats people with such disregard and disposability. They also always seem to be out of copepods, other inverts and the food that I feed me tank.

Nice marine aquarium store. One of the best around for corals. They usually have a wide selection and of good quality.Marine fish on offer tend to be of a small size. They do have invertebrates. You can also get aquarium water.Staff are very helpful and will go our of their way to help.Prices are not cheap but they are willing to offer discounts especially for multiple purchases.Convenient location. Right off Rt. 15.

The owner of Fintastic has gone out of his way to provide me with exceptional customer service with a challenging order. I had an expensive aquarium system that was delivered at a far later date than the manufacturer originally stated (to no fault of Fintastic) and Paul put forth a lot of effort on my behalf to make the experience positive for me as the customer. Outside that experience I’ve been buying coral and fish from him from for many years and he keeps a constant replenishment of quality stock. If you are a reef keeper in the area get on the email list, see what’s come in that week and visit the shop. This is the type of LFS you want in your area.

The people working here are honest and very knowledgeable. They have a great selection of small amd large frags. Their fish selection is not that big but they can always order the fish for you. Fish are healthy.Prices are good.You can buy RO water and a good price and life rock.

Thought I would give it a try. Came to their fresh water store over a year ago when they 1st opened barely had anything nothing was labeled and things were just kind of scattered all over the place had no dry goods nothing in stock. Spoke to the owner explain to me things were going to get better. Went to the store 3 days ago to check out their freshwater section almost half of the tanks had half the water running in them some of the tanks had no water there were barely any fish in the store in looking to store was going out of business had no dry goods whatsoever their planet tank section are planted tanks were basically just a bunch of Java fern and it was just a waste of time and energy coming there Will not recommend anybody to check out their freshwater section salt water on the other hand they do a great job fresh water they suck at it

We USED to make the 45 minute trip almost every weekend. We loved this store. 6 months ago, it was the best in the state. As of 3 weeks ago.. ill shop elsewhere. New gentleman is rude, dismissive, raising prices, its just not at all the same store we loved. Sad to see. No familiar faces. Experience, and conversation is GONE. Sad to see this happen to good places.

Small, FOCUSED shop, Specializing in SALTWATER/REEF Aquariums. Fintastic has the look and feel of a professional laboratory, dedicated to Marine Biology. Staff is friendly, helpful and VERY knowledgeable!!! Many sizes and selections of Corals and fish; however, fish sell quickly. So, if you want it and dont see it, THEY WILL ORDER IT FOR YOU! They are great at problem solving and also fish trade-ins. They will work to make sure YOU are happy. All levels of experience are welcome. I highly recommend them, especially in the Frederick area.

I drove two hours to this store after seeing it on youtube. I am fresh into the reefing hobby so i was looking for my first corals and fish. The guy that was working was super helpful and friendly. I needed help figuring out which corals were the ones i had researched online because they look different in person. Also i came multiple days after shipment day so he apologized multiple times for being low on stock which was crazy to me because I thought there was tons of selection. All of the negative reviews on here blow my mind because this store was amazing and the associates were super helpful

Very nice wide variety of saltwater fish and coral

Please don’t go to fintastic! Very quantity over quality. The last few fish I have got from them have died within a few days. I know it’s not my water either because I tested it and was all perfect perimeters plus the last fish a hippo tang died within the day and the other 3 fish I added from ricks at the same time are doing perfectly. I make an over an hour long trip to get up there but not no more.

Awesome store; awesome people; awesome livestock. This place is a must. The corals are beautiful. The tanks are full of life and clean. There was minimal sick fish which was really cool. I did lose the fish i bought but it was probably the drive home that stressed it and the tank mates probably didnt play well with a stressed new guy. Thank you for being open! Also weekend hours are great for me!

The best aquarium livestock store in our area hands down. Knowledgeable staff and great prices make this a must visit place if you have a saltwater or fresh water aquarium. They run awesome sales as well and are active on social media. They also have a nice selection of foods and chemicals for all your needs as well as equipment.

We’ve been twice now to add fish to a tank that was destroyed by ich after I bought fish from a big box store - so far very happy with what we bought - the staff is knowledgeable with great information but not pushy - they don’t have a huge fresh water supply but what they do have is very clean and healthy!

Great local business! Had a tank for 4 years and been super successful thanks to all their support I was able to start up my second tank and much bigger! Would not recommend because they are impossible to get ahold of, and I cant justify driving 45 minutes for them to not have hardly any freshwater fish in their store (did this once). They also never post any stock lists for their freshwater fish, only saltwater. I have been trying to get fish from them and/or do business with them for over a month now. I am beginning to think they do not care about freshwater hobbyists or care to have my business.*update to my review*Funny how this review gets attention so quickly... there isnt anything fishy about my review. I attached a couple pictures for you to look at if you think my post is so fishy. The message via Facebook was sent after I commented on a post which was not acknowledged, BUT somehow someone from your store managed to comment on TWO comments after mine (see the picture). After this the following week I sent you an email through your website, that went unanswered... I then called EVERYDAY for a week straight, at various times during your normal business hours with no one answering....So, I have officially done everything you said to do (many times): call, email, and Facebook messaged with no response. What more is there to do?- I guess speak to you through a review?Furthermore, as far as I have seen-before I quit following you on Facebook because it seemed to be a lost cause as far as freshwater fish-I have not once seen a freshwater stock list, in your own words the posts are filled with all sorts of saltwater fish and on one line at the very bottom it reads TONS OF NEW FRESHWATER FISH IN STOCK TOO! (or some variation of this)- so I guess you can say you posting the freshwater stock list for once is a step in the right direction.I am all for small businesses, and actually would rather do business with small businesses. Heres your one star constructive criticism- maybe its time to get everyone on the same page and have your employees forward on YOUR info for someone to get a hold of you. Maybe its time to take some of the effort you put into setting up tanks and spend it someplace else. Maybe this is a time for you to not become so defensive and take this info and make your business that much better.I have spent way to much time and effort trying to get ahold of you (or someone in general) and writing this review, so at this point I am taking my time and money elswhere.Oh, by the way. I got my first coral for my 10g, and my fish and coral for my 65g from here, slightly misleading as I was naive and didnt do my research before purchasing a red thorny starfish.

Ive found my new local fish store! Im relatively new to the hobby and the people at Fintastic were super helpful explaining care, maintenance, and generally alleviating some nervousness I had regarding stocking my tank. I love my new fish/corals, and plan to add more soon! Also, their prices cannot be beat...online or locally! Great service, great prices, and awesome looking tanks!

If your just getting into the hobby I would suggest going here, everyone there knows what they’re doing and want to see your tank succeed and grow. Great specialized saltwater fish store.

I purchased a setup from here and was new to the hobby. At first they were helpful but got a lot of conflicting information when I asked questions. As the year went on I must have purchased 12 to 20 fish that never made it passed 24 to 48 hours even though I dropped them in per Fintastics instructions. When I asked what I could be doing wrong I was told well, these are wild animals. I had even gotten frustrated to the point of asking how do I sell the tank and was told they would give me a free cleaning and evaluation (never happened). Was also told I would get a discount on restocking the tank the one time when everything died (also never happened). I have also been there more times than I can remember either to get water or something else and they did have any water when I or someone else needed it. Excuse is always we needed it for this or for that. Supplies are also hit or miss (mostly miss). I am now doing my business with their competitor or online for my supplies and fish. Unless you are spending $5,000+ or want them to do full service of your tank I would go somewhere else.

The owner, Paul, is really nice and knowledgeable. I was visiting him when he used to own king of corals, and I was very pleased to still see a nice selection of corals in this new store. The bonus is that they also now have a huge selection of fish and inverts. If you are looking for supplements, theyve got a decent selection, but almost no other supplies... At least not on display. Im sure he could order stuff for you though. Bottom line, this is the best fish and coral store in the whole area. Its worth the drive. Oh, and to the guy who hates the website... I hardly think it makes a difference, and I certainly dont think it should affect a review of the store.

Fintastic has become my go to place for all questions related to my reef tank. Everyone there is knowledgeable and very patient with questions from a newbie to reef tanks. In addition, Paul the owner is also knowledgeable and was great at suggesting a solution for my various issues.One thing that sets this store apart is the fact that they are more concerned about providing great customer service rather then simply selling me something and dismissing me. This is rare these days. Great job folks, please keep it going!

Super clean but really limited selection. It might be because the spot was relatively new at the time. The dry goods selection is quite limited. The staffs knowledge level is mediocre and prices on coral are not competitive at all but its a saltwater store in the middle of nowhere MD which is nice. So all and all still probably worth giving it a shot.

Visited the store twice in one weekend. Stood around for nearly twenty minutes without help on the first trip and over 10 for the second trip. Not a single employee acknowledged my presence. Half the fish look sick or beat up because they are mixing species they shouldn’t in the same tank.

Decent selection. Staff is just not very helpful. Ive been three times and each time Ive been ignored until I ask for help, and even then I felt like I was bothering them.

Not much selections, same fishes all the time with very few variety. Floor always wet and never dry. Consider Ricks or Aquatic Creations for large variety of fishes - these stores may be a little pricey but $10 more wont hurt if I get the one I really like and keep it for may years to come. Paul is a liar and will make you purchase anything by Demeaning your setup that he has not even seen!

Best selection and best prices on fish and corals in the area!Not good at returning calls though. Very disappointed in the owner for that. I have been a regular customer since he opened and messaged him to see if he would lay away or hold something for a week or 2, and he never answered. I went over to get a some fish, pods, food etc.. Paul wasnt there so I asked the lady working and she took down my phone number and a week goes by and no phone call. So go by the store again and I asked the lady about why I havent heard from him. She proceeds to say he told her he doesnt do lay aways.Well I am fine if their policy is no lay aways, BUT I am not fine with the fact the owner doesnt care enough about his customers or respect them enough to return their call or answer their facebook messager questions.

I was actually skeptical about going to Fntastic due to how awful their website is.... One of the worst websites I have seen. After my friend had the same reaction to the poor site he decided to go anyway and said the store looked a lot better than the website. So I gave it a shot.Fintastic offers great deals on fish with low prices that are hard to beat. I still choose to buy my corals online just because they are similar in price and online you get a money back guarantee if something was to die which you do not get with Fintastic. Fintastic can answer most of your fish questions so this store is great for the beginner hobbyist but, the experts id suggest to stick to the online wysiwyg.In the end Fintastic is a pleasant store with nice customer services. Fintastic get a better web page this is the 21st century.Update: not a huge selection a day or two after shipments come in. Still awful webpage.

Stopped in today to get a naso tang for my tank. Great selection of fish and corals and REALLY low prices for the quality. Got a blonde naso for less than it would cost to get a regular one from an online vendor and no shipping. Might be 45 minutes to drive, but this is now my go to place for my aquarium livestock.
