At 8 my daughter was very interested in gymnastics, but had no experience in the sport. She started Level 1 classes once a week. Through her desire to learn and practice at home the skills she was being taught in class, she was pulled up to level 2 and asked to be on the pre- comp team within the first year. Coaches and staff here are wonderful at training those who want to learn!
My daughter has been coming here for gym since she was 2 and a half and she is 8 now and loves every minute of it. She has the best coaches, and the owner Jean is always communicating with me about all events. Miss Tisha always keeps me up to date with currents news and is always happy and helpful. Would definitely recommend!!
This place has been absolutely amazing! My daughter has always been very flexible and I knew she would do amazing things in gymnastics so I decided to give this place a try and I don’t regret my decision at all!!! They’ve been absolutely amazing and my daughter loves it! She looks forward to gymnastics every day! Coaches and staff are amazing!
My daughter absolutely loves coming here to do gymnastics!!! The staff is friendly and professional!!! The coaches do a great job making it fun but also challenging them to try harder things! I recommend emerald city for all gymnastics needs and parties!!
My granddaughters love going to this gym. They have learned so much and had so much fun over the past year. The staff is supportive and always working to help the gymnasts grow.
I love bringing my daughter here. The coaches are amazing and work with the kids to bring out the best in them.
Absolutely love all coaches professional approach to teach my kids to do the best. Staff is very friendly and highly knowledgeable .
My daughter went here for two years in a row was in the same class and learned nothing but the recital routine for two years. The whole experience made my daughter lose interest in gymnastics. A year later shes finally interested in gymnastics again and found a good gymnastics place that will actually teach her things as everything she learned there still has her in a level one class after two years. Save your money and go somewhere else!
This place is horrible. My daughter has a speech delay, nothing serious because she is very good at gymnastics. Even so they don’t allow her to continued in this place justifying that she did not understand and they have only one coach. These people have no idea that discrimination for disability is punishable, they should inform themselves with the disabilty act. This place is not child friendly, they expect them to act like adults and the owner or manager treats the children rudely. if you want your child to practice gymnastics look for other places in fort walton, less expensive with a better environment for your child.
Just started here a little while ago. I have never seen a gym with friendlier and more supportive staff. Even the rec coaches regularly touch base with the parents to make sure all is good and give updates. This amazing gym seems to care about the whole athlete, not just the skills. Its refreshing to see!
Everyone at emerald city is amazing. The staff is amazing! Three of my kids have been coming to this gym for a couple of years and we have never had a negative experience. They are always showing my girls things to work on at home while challenging them in class. Highly recommend this gym.
My daughter has been coming here for 2 years and loves it so much that shes had her last 2 birthday parties here. The classes are very age appropriate and the coaches guide and challenge her as she moves up to each new class. The coaches also provide instruction on what to work on at home. We are very pleased with Emerald City Gymnastics and would highly recommend to our family and friends.
My daughter Phoebe has been coming here for the last 3-4 years. She has Down syndrome so I wasn’t sure what the experience would be like. It has been AMAZING!!! Phoebe loves all of the staff and they are beyond friendly to her. But it’s not just that......they still set expectations and get her to reach beyond my expectations. I love the sense of family and how much my daughter looks forward to seeing Miss Tisha and Coach Holliday ️
ECG was the first gym I worked at and learned how to be a great coach. Jean & Lori taught me so much. I wouldn’t have become the coach I am it wasn’t for Jean. This will always be my hometown gym!
ECG does an amazing job of offering a wide variety of gymnastics classes for all ages. My children participated in the program from preschool through competitive level gymnastics, as well as circus and trampoline activities. The coaches and staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Safety was always a priority and I always felty were children were encouraged and well cared for at all times. As a former USAG gymnast, coach and judge I feel ECG is an excellent ambassador of the sport.
My daughter has been coming here since she was 2 we are now in her 4th season here. The coaches are like family and my daughter looks forward to her classes each week. She has learned to be a team player and the confidence it has given her is priceless. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun competitive environment!
I am not one to write a review but I have to shine some light on this place. I grew up in this gym doing gymnastics, cheerleading & tumbling. I never once had a bad experience with any of the coaches that taught me over the years. Every coach I had knew me by my first name, critiqued me in a firm & professional way & always put my safety first. I started with recreational gymnastics & ended with advanced skills in tumbling, all of which I learned from the staff at ECG. At the end of class, staff would meet in the lobby & speak to parents about new skills or skills that needed some work. The owner was always there to greet you with a smile and share some of her knowledge as well. Now that I am older, I still visit from time to time & the owner & office manager still know me by my first name! I have taken my two nieces to open gym and we really enjoy it. Its a fun & safe way to get out of the house & burn some energy. We even hosted my nieces 4th birthday here. The staff had a wonderful, age appropriate set up in the gym as well as the lobby. I would highly recommend this facility to children of all ages & experience, as well as adults.
I am not one to leave reviews, but I felt like I need to let the parents know about this place before they waste their money. My son is 3 years old and we signed him up to go to a 3-4 year old class. We did a drop in class and I felt like even though the coach was a little strict perhaps he would be better the next class. The class starts out doing group exercises, which my son did great in, and then would do stations. The coach would show 8-10 different stations all at the same time. And then would place each child (5 kids) at a station and would expect them to remember what she taught. And when my child couldn’t remember, she would get frustrated with him.In the first official class my son got scared and didn’t continue the exercises, the “coach” began to yell at him and asked him if he “ had ears” and why was he not listening. He was then kicked out of class. After the first class was completely over, the coach never talked to me in private, but in front of all of the other parents said that my child needs to listen better. Again, he’s 3. And it’s not like he was running around or bitting people. He was curled up in a ball. Because he was scared.Although I wanted to go all mommy bear on the coach, I thought I would let it go and we would see how he would do the next class. The next class was ok, at least he wasn’t kicked out, and didn’t cry.Our last class there and the coach kicked him out again because he started crying and wanted to come see me. She told him if he went to see me he wouldn’t get any stamps, (reward system) and wouldn’t be allowed back in the class. We are done going here. If you want a child to learn, you have to get to know them. Or at least talk to the parent. Perhaps the coach would be a better fit for a very competitive gym, but, NOT for a 3 year old class.Btw, we found a new gym, and literally within the first 5 min my son was laughing, learning so much, and was beyond excited to go back. It’s not the sport, it’s the coach.
Shame on you Emerald Coast Gymnastics for not accepting William Paas in your school. Glad they have another gym who accepted him. Sometimes life is not perfect and we are dealt different hands. He should have been accepted without all the discussion. You are not a nice person. Maybe the government can shed a little light on the ADA or a lawyer.
Great place great atmosphere
The owner and staff of this facility need to educate themselves on the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 before their business is shut down for illegal discrimination. Called to inquire about enrolling my 3 kiddos. Was told they could come take a free introductory class to get a feel for it and see if they wanted to commit/register. I informed them ahead of time that my son has spina bifida but it doesnt keep him from running, jumping, climbing, etc. I told them he may not have crisp or perfect landings but were not looking for gold medals. They said thats ok, well meet him and see what he can do... etc, and agreed to let us just come check the place out, work one on one with a coach, and see if it would be a good fit. Show up 2 days later for our scheduled free introductory class and the owner had changed her mind, told secretary to not allow my son to enter their facility. The owner never actually met my son - just outright refused him service based strictly off his diagnosis. This is the very definition of discrimination - to deny service to someone based exclusively off their label. Im waiting for the owner to call and explain herself. I left my name, phone, and email and were on day 2 with her not reaching out. My son was in tears - with him right at my side, they said He cant do gymnastics because he has spina bifida. This was the first time in his 9 years hes been told he cant do something because hes disabled. Wow. Its 2019, Yall. You might want to educate yourselves on federal law! You might also want to google photos of gymnasts who have competed and won medals despite having only 1 arm or 1 leg! You cant even deny a fully able bodied person from bringing their emotional support chihuahua into your business but you think you can close the doors in my sons face?? In this day and age, youve got to bake the cake if you know what I mean. And you certainly have to open your doors to disabled individuals - no matter how severe. Not ok and this is not the last youve heard from me.
I want to let people know the homeschool class they said was for beginners is not for beginners. My daughter was SO excited to learn gymnastics but the coach acted irritated that my daughter did not know the basics. By the end of the class my daughters enthusiasm was completely gone and she was holding back tears. The coach gave me this list of things my daughter needs to work on if she wants to stay in the class.-Bridges-Fwd Rolls-Arm strength-Jumping and Landing-Straight Legs-Seat Drops-ConfidenceIf I knew gymnastics and if we had a trampoline then I could teach my daughter these things but I thought she would learn these things in a beginners class and not be expected to perfect them the first day. Also, the last thing on her list was confidence underlined which is what I thought was most inappropriate. My daughter has confidence but if your coach is irritated with you for the whole hour you are there then you do lose your confidence by the end. Real coaches encourage kids, help kids learn, and help build their confidence. This coach definitely did not do that. Maybe the coach was having a bad day or maybe this is why there was only one other child in the class.
They have good programs for kids of all ages and for a great price. The classes have a good student/teacher ratio and they do provide special instruction for the kids that need the help. Happy to have my daughter in their care for her class, and I trust them to instruct her well.My daughter is a very timid, very delicate young lady, and now she is strong and confident. Started in June 2017 and still attending once a week. These ladies not only teach her gymnastics, but build up confidence!
This place needs some serious updates and a deep clean . I understand kids and adults all ages walk barefoot and therefore it might be hard to keep the floors clean but the carpet & floor was filthy dirty . The floor edges in some areas are a hazard for crawling children . I’ve been to a few open gym classes and this is by far the worse place Ive been to . The kids can’t do much expect walk around and maybe jump and walk on balance beams in certain areas. I can’t comment on the other activities/classes they offer but if you’re thinking of going to open gym, look elsewhere .
Awful place that discriminates against special-needs children and military families.
My daughter enjoys her time here and feels encouraged by her coaches. I like the owner, staff and the atmosphere feels emotionally healthy for the young gymnasts and their parents. It feels like a gym with a heart.
We love this gym! Coaches are amazing and teach the kids great skills. The girls advance very quickly and they enjoy every minute of it.
I took my daughter 5 years old to the free tryout lesson today 26 Jan 2013. The facility is in serious disrepair. The carpets need to be replaced, the wood underneath is showing along with the screws protruding out. Since the kids are required to be bare foot, this is a serious risk to the kids. Even the trampoline has a big hole in it and they just put a pad over it and tell the kids to just stay away from it while they are jumping. The place also smells like a dirty dog. Additionally, the teacher looks like he just got back from fishing. Has a big beer belly and drinks soda while teaching. For the amount of money they are charging, there is no excuse for these things. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless it has a serious overhaul.
Took my daughter to a open gym class. She did her first flip and was so excited and ran towards me to tell me. And because she ran one of the ladies that works there yelled off the top of her lungs at her and told her to go sit down somewhere. I heard her and just watched My daughter to see what her reaction was. She looked scared and started crying. Before class was even over I grabbed my daughter and left. Will never go back and will also let the rest of the mommies know how rude these young ladies that work there are.
My girls love to go on Friday nights, open gym, $10 kids stay from 7:30-9:00.
HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.Child on squad for 2 years still Level 2 and have not advanced. The Owner charges more than ANYONE in the local area. Over priced Level 2 cheer. The Owner is not involved with the cheer program AT ALL. Left in the hands a 20 year old, so thing dont go well at all. Completely unorganized. No one is in charge. Charges outrageous coach fees. Our season started in June 2008 first competition didnt happen till January 2009. Remember there are other Cheer companies in our area that charge half the price that Emerald City does and they are so much better.
Very professional and kids love their coaches!
My daughter is 10 and loves this place!!
