This is a nice area for taking a slow stroll. We walked around the observation center but did not go inside. There are quite a few signs that give very good information about the manatees and their preferred habitat. A worthwhile trip indeed.
What an amazing experience! We didn’t see any manatees, but instead we’re surprised by a huge array of other animals! My daughter and I are new to Florida and the tropics, and being animal lovers we want to learn them all, and the Center helped us on that quest! The staff was INCREDIBLE! The volunteer coordinator (I don’t recall her name) was so knowledgeable, patient, and kind! We started by watching an extremely informative video all about manatees and conservation. We didn’t think we would be there more then a half hour and ended up spending about 2 hours there! It’s a must see! Especially for kids (and admission is only $1) can’t wait to go back!
Invasive species from the west indies, not endangered, yet we shut down out waterways to no wake zones every year. Captains can spot them easy
The Fort Pierce Manatee Center is located near the Fort Pierce City Marina. A small educational facility dedicated to informing the public about manatees and some of the other animals living in the coastal waters of Florida. The Manatee Center is strategically located near the water. The manatees and other sea life discussed may actually be swimming nearby. In a previous visit to the marina, I saw a juvenile Manatee pass by in an area with relatively shallow waters. The Manatee Center has a few tanks that contain marine life much smaller than a Manatee. Small fish that dont have to exercise an enormous amount of caution in the water to be safe from this gentle vegetarian. The design of the Manatee Center seemed straightforward to me, except for one detail. When I was in the outside area of the building, I felt as if I was on the deck of a boat.A minor detail that makes the Manatee Center the perfect pit stop before going on a fishing or boat tour.An opportunity to learn about the sea life swimming around or beneath your chosen vessel.A trip to the Manatee Center can be memorialized with a purchase from the gift shop. Hopefully a small memento of a memory made.
Very small but truly interesting. Absolutely worth a visit, if youre in Fort Pierce.
In love this place! The Manatees Ive seen have been in the AM during the Fall and Winter months.
I would have given it a much higher rating, if it had been open. Very disappointed. Earlier, we had been to the Oceanographic Center so we figured this would have been open as well.
We didnt get to see Manatees but we did see Moray Eel, Seahorses and lots of other sea creatures. It was only a dollar to enter.I would recommend stopping and check it out. The people running this place were very friendly and knowledgeable.
Not only is it wonderfully educational with information about not only manatees but turtles, fish and wildlife. It is also breathtakingly beautiful. The butterfly garden is gorgeous and informational! If you get a chance to cisit the manatee Center, you should absolutely go.
They dont have a big exhibit, its more of an educational facility, but they have a few tanks showing local wildlife. Theres also a short movie about manatees and the background of the center. The staff are always on hand to answer questions. Outside in the marina you can look out for manatees. Its a really nice area. Its worth a visit as its only $1 for admission and they do good work raising awareness of ecological issues.
This was a very interesting place to visit. We unfortunately didnt get to see any manatees, but we did witness the feeding of the seahorses which was pretty cool. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and very inexpensive. The view is awesome, and they have a second floor deck to get some really nice shots of the fish and view. The butterfly garden was beautiful. Would certainly recommend anyone of all ages to go.
Awesome place. Very knowledgeable. Great for youngins to learn
No manatees in sight! However the staff introduced us to their pet crabs and snake and were very knowledgeable and clearly loved sharing.
I liked how the employees here were geriatrics. They were so friendly. If you buy something inside the souvenir shop, you can get inside their mini museum.. the place itself was nice. Too bad we havent seen any Manatees. Manatees go here during months of 2nd week of Oct til December when the water is warm.
Really cool place but if you want to see manatee you have to go on one of the 5 cold days we have a year. We did. Its awesome! Deffinetly worth bundling up in your hooded sweatshirts and long pants, and venturing out.
We loved coming here! Yes its small but you can make the most out of it for an hour or so. We were lucky enough to see manatees in the water while there. A worker came in and let everyone know they were there which was super nice. Loved the education my boys obtained from hands on exposure. We will be back for sure.
I go every year and now that i live in the state i go often. Such beautiful creatures. The classes and mini aquarium is great to start teaching young chosen children about oceanic wild life...plus the ladies in the gift shop are really nice!
Nice place. They saw 20 manatees today. We got there too late Cute grit shop. Very friendly volunteers
The education center is very small, but interesting, especially for children. We didn’t see any manatees in the harbor, probably because it was a cold and windy day.
The volunteers at this place rock!!! 1st a kid show me a bunch of little turtles. He put one in my hand. Next a girl picked up a sea urchin and put it in my hand. Long story short, I held have the oceans critters in my hand that day and it only cost $1. They have a small aquarium and an area that you can wait to see manatees if your lucky.
I always love coming to this little place. The gift shop is fabulous with lots of local-made goods. You probably wont see manatees while youre here, but its still a nice little spot to hang out for a bit.
Very informative and polite staff had to drag my kids out of there unfortunately no mantises
This is a great place for visitors and locals to enjoy! It is educational and fun for anyone interested in marine life.
Great place to visit..saw a Momma Manatee with her 4 babies. Great gift shop..wonderful people that work there.
My granddaughter loved it.
Not much to see. Insolent kids were fishing in the area so we were unable to sit and enjoy the view. Gift shop has cute stuff but was staffed by young girls that did not seem to know how the register worked. Education center is nothing more than a kids play room.
Great place with several hands on exhibits. The Vanishing Mermaid gift shop is a must with affordable gifts and a great selection.
Volunteers here are very patient and informative. We saw our first manatees in the wild during low tide on an overcast evening. Thank you again!
They have wonderful friendly people nice exhibits that you can see and find out the information about the fish seahorses sea turtles that are in the tanks and then about the manatees
It was very informative. The facility was great. The staff was awesome. Definitely a place worth visiting.
You may not see a live manatee but there are interactive exhibits and video of the manatees in their natural environment.Kids will like the touch tanks where they can hold live marine animals. I like it too. Not a large exhibit but I really liked it. Staff is very friendly. Gift shop has a lot of nice trinkets.
Great people were friendly and there is always things to do there that town is on fire
Adorable and charming! This is a super small place with alot of charm. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place for small children. Dont expect alot other than a couple fish tanks but it is precious.
Patience, the greeter is a darling. Juat seeing her smile makes the visit worth the while. Only $1 and worth a million! Thanks
There were 5 manatees outside by the docks, that was cool.Inside was just fish tanks and volunteers to answer questions
A great place to take out of town visiters. And the gift shop is so cute. ️️
I thought there would be more hands on exhibits. And some type of underwater visual. But the workers were very nice & knowledgeable.
We saw manatees. Inside they have a nice display with touch and feel animals
Nothing was open. It was okay around the actual build. But otherwise wasnt very pretty. No manatees when we visited.
$1 will get you into a small, interactive museum... perfect for like ones, students and visitors... volunteers are knowledgeable and friendly... you might even get to see a manatee swimming by outside....HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Ive been here in the past and not overly impressed. But today was definitely 5 Stars! Two volunteer workers, Zachary and Xiang, made our trip AWESOME!! They were extremely knowledgeable regarding all the exhibits and all of Floridas Marine life and habitat. They also spent time answering questions and showing us some marine life and other animals. If you call ahead and either of these wonderful guys are volunteering it will be well worth a visit!
We visited in early June. Sadly there were no manatees outside, but there is a nice overation deck with another small deck upstairs. They also have a few photo opp spots outside if the kids want to pretend to be mermaids or manatees. Inside is a small education center plus a good shop. They all for a donation to go inside the education area, but everything else there is free. Plenty of free parking.
The woman was very helpful with informing my family on the upcoming events while we were on vacation. I didn’t get to take any photos but her recommendations were great and we had a very fun time. She gave us a pamphlet and I’ll be definitely using it on the next trip to Fort Pierce
Lots of information packed into a tiny building, including aquariums, mini-theater, and a touch sections where are all the land lovers can touch real sea animals. Oh yeah and its cheap.
Nice place. Courteous staff and saw Manatees
What a gem My toddler had an amazing time and the volunteers were so helpful and kind and patient with her ! We can’t wait to come back when the weather gets a little chillier
Fun little place for the kids!
This is a great place for kids and adults alike. You may not aleays see a manatee but there is so much more to this place than that! On the right day you may even get to see the snake, Diego, eat a mouse!
You cannot miss this!!! First off entrance fee is crazy low. A $1 donation is all it takes. Learn cool facts about some of the area wildlife and if youre lucky youll see some odd looking fish swimming outside or a manatee hanging out.
Very nice but no Manatee
Cute little exhibit for $1
The volunteers were great. I love that they have kids teaching others. everyone benefits. Great inexpensive family activity.
Really cool saw 6 of them out In the river at boat dock
Wonderful place to spend an hour. Cost only $1 to get in and you get to enjoy a touch tank and learning about local marine life.
Awesome place.. Go whens its cooler out to see the manatees!
Beautiful view!!!! Perfect lunch spot !!!
Not a huge deal attraction... Just a nice little place to visit. Good observation point for Manatee especially in the winter.
For just a dollar you can learn a lot. Its mainly geared for kids (were told) but we loved it too! Plus theres a very nice gift shop next door. Friendly helpful staff.
Nice place to spend with the family. Clean for the most part and a great learning experience.
Loved it. Long time resident so remember when nothing there. Everyone should visit.
Great place to take family. Very educational
Some days I would love to go back when the Manatees will be there.
Awesome spot to learn about our gentle faint manatees. Great movie, fun interactive touch tank and friendly Corn snake
A small place that teaches people about manatees. It has an educational video, coloring station, friendly staff, a gift shop that is inexpensive compared to other places, and a very nice viewing area. We did not see any real manatees but its worth stopping at. Kids will enjoy themselves.
Had a really fun time. The kids enjoyed it. A feel tank with turtles and a snake, and urchin, conc, others. Very friendly and told us right where to go to see the Manatees. Kids got to see one up close in the water. The movie was quite informative.
Never got to see a Manatee. A very nice place to hang out and walk a bit.
Very friendly staff willing to answer questions.
Wonderful staff, very friendly and professional. Lots to learn about Manatees !
Didnt see any Manatees but met a very friendly corn snake. Definitely worth the price of admission, which was only a dollar.
The gift shop is bigger than the exhibition areas. Not much on exhibit other than fish, turtles, sea stars, a corn/rat snake, and seahorses. Was very interesting to see the seahorses up close and feeding. A manatee skull and some pictures with graphics detailing their plight. But.....it was only $1 per person. We would rather spend time at the Navy Seal exhibit just up the road (with actual boats and landing craft used).
This shop was amazing found lots of goodies for my loves at home.
Good volunteers and a worthwhile trip
Unfortunately we did not see any Manatees. It was not the season. I recommend, if you are not in the neighborhood, call ahead.
When I went there I saw my first Manatee right outside there were four of them. Then we went inside and it was a little exhibit and fish tanks $1 to get in
Took 3 children 5,6,&15. There was something for all of them to do. They had a great time. The boat ride was very good they got to see dolphins and manatees. The price was a bit high though.
Love seeing the manatees here!
Theres a quaint little gift shop and a short covered walkway that overlooks the canal. There is also a very small information center that charges $1 USD to tour the inside. Didnt see any Manatees but it may have been too cold for them.
Very hands on and a reasonable gift shop.
Beautiful area for strolling around the waterfront.
Great place for kids and adults as well, very informative.
Nice place and friendly staff. We were having fun watching a hermit crab searching all over the tank Seahorses were cool!
Wonderfully creative gift shop for all your holiday presents!!
Visited several times during the winter months and saw many manatees. Center is very pretty, lots of educational info. Great for all ages.
Lunch and Learn program was very interesting. The topic was Backyard Beekeeping. While we have no intention of getting a hive we were interested in the nature component. Very informative and we learned quite a bit about bees, etc.
Great place to learn about manatees
Very informative and a good place to take the family. Staff was knowledgeable and we saw a manatee in the wild. My 17 and 13 year old daughters really liked this place
Lots of great things to look at here and the volunteers that run it are extremely knowledgeable and kid friendly.
