Nice place for a getaway. Apart from the fact that you hardly get phone signal there and the cabins do not have wifi, we enjoyed our stay to the fullest.Very neat and clean cabins and facilities for campfire and BBQ are available as well.
Beautiful park with plenty of activity nearby, glad I came here and enjoyed my stay in Alabama! Would highly reccomend visiting Little Falls, which is a beautiful scenic drive with plenty of spots to stop and gaze at the wonder of nature. Very great place to stay, great scenery, and nice staff! Hope you enjoy your stay!

Very clean. However, there were wasps in our cabin. I think these should be inspected more carefully; especially when you have kids and family staying in them.
This is a beautiful place to vacation, only reason for 4 not 5 stars is that a lot of things are still closed.
One of our favorite places. We go every year. Love the lodge the views around the drives. Close to so much natural beauty. We visit little river canyon and pigeon mtn ga when we stay here. Quite lovely and refreshing. Oh and wildflower pockets are incredible.
We stayed at Desoto since 1986. We stayed in the camp grounds, the original Cabins, the chalets and the inn. We came down from Ohio for Alabamas Christmas for kids and even brought decorations for the cabin. We always had plenty of room. They enjoyed going to the pool during the jams. We always went to little river canyon and lots of hiking. Best memories ever!! Thank you Alabama!!
The motel rooms were spacious, clean, and fantastic. But this review is about more than that! I accidentally left my keys in the room, and I received a call within 30-minutes of our checking out. I had a long drive that day so I asked if my keys could be mailed to me, rather than turning around to retrieve them. The lodge receptionist took my information, wrapped up my keys very nicely, and I received the package a few days later. I thought that their service was exceptional!

We went to the lodge for their Thanksgiving special lunch. It was outstanding, and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating to us. We loved it!
We go to the park for our family reunion. Its nice. The location is beautiful. The rooms and cabins are clean when we have stayed. I dont stay every year. Sometimes I only go for the dinner when everyone is there. This year when my mother called to make our familys registration for a block of rooms, there was a new person working the registration who was very rude and said things were no longer done the way we have been arranging it for many years. Once we were there, things worked out well though. The restaurant did well getting orders and food out for 18 people but the food itself was just okay. We werent impressed at all. I had the salmon with baked potato, green beans, and salad bar. My husband had the steak and said it was too done. My sisters catfish was not good at all, she said.My sisters family tried out the new zip line and said it was great.
Love DeSoto State Park, the Lodge/restaurant is our go to for Thanksgiving Buffet and any other time when camping and dont feel like cooking and cleaning.
The waterfalls were not really that big but it was a nice place to hike

Here right now for the Steak and Seafood buffet.When we walked in 90% of the buffet was empty. There were no plates.Asked for a manager and was told there was no restaurant manager.There was a lodge manager, but he was off property. Told the server and she said they were short handed. Thats a restaurant issue, management issue and not my issue.Very disappointing and expected better.
Had our 30th class reunion. Food was great.

Clean friendly quiet getaway
This is an expertly developed trail system with diverse scenery and wildlife. You find memorable rock formations, streams, waterfalls, and overlooks. Also shaded pavilions and ropes course.
We love this place. Great place to stay if you like peace and quiet. The only hotel you will ever stay with a back porch and a creek behind it.
Vicki is a great and attentive eaitress, and the cook, Bonnie, usually does a great job.
The rooms are outdated. They remind me of the 70s. Old wallpaper, old comforters, lumpy pillows, and the mattress was hard. The lamp was broken, switch was broken off. The overhead florescent lights that were over each bed were broken as well, they had the old plastic coverings on them, were dirty as well. Our bathroom had an old nasty shower curtain. The TV was way too small for the room. We were very disappointed.
What an absolutely wonderful example of incredible people making a tight budget work! DeSoto State Park is an incredible park with incredible people who make far more out of the funds that the State of Alabama provides than any other government agency that I have ever observed. From the clean rooms, cabins, bathhouses, and lodge, to the food served at the beautiful restaurant, anyone visiting Alabama has not seen the best part unless you visit this wonderful place.
Enjoyed our stay in cabin 8. Would definitely reccomend staying here. Good accommodations and very friendly staff.

Always a great place to go and spend time in summer or winter. Really laid back. Great restaurant. The staff are really nice folks. Big rock fireplace burning in winter as you dine. We love it.
I have to say the restaurant at the lodge was a surprise! The food was wonderful, the location excellent and the history of the lodge enjoyable. I would recommend anyone traveling in the area or staying in the State Park be sure to make a trip for one meal. If were in the area again well be back!
Motel needs repairs. Resturant just average. Havent gone back. Park is hard to find and gps doesnt work.
Everything about this place is so pretty. We stayed at the Inn that connects to the lodge. The room seemed huge with the pitched, white shiplap ceiling. And then we had our own little private deck off the back.Breakfast is at the lodge but is not included with our stay but thats ok.Great over night stay for anyone traveling the 127 yard sale...not to far from Mentone.

Service was good but the chicken was tough and the okra was overcooked. Meatloaf was not the best and too greasy. Its a shame because we always enjoyed eating there. Also the price is a little too high.

Great place to stay
Desoto State Park Lodge in Fort Payne Al. I just spent a few days there and had a wonderful, relaxing time. I am in a power chair and it is often difficult to find activities that the chair can get to or through. At Desoto Lodge, there are handicap accessible rooms that open on to a deck with a beautiful view. There is also a boardwalk that goes at least a 1000 feet into the woods that end at a beautiful waterfall. Not far from the lodge is Little River Canyon that has a long ramp that leads you down to the areas big waterfall. It is gorgeous blue and green water that has a cool, crisp mist that floats in the air and gently coats your face. The lodge has a restaurant that serves delicious meals and free breakfast if you are staying at the park. They also have cabins for families. However I did not ask if they were handicap accessible, but I believe there are some. As for my Bi-ped partner, there are many trails that hikers can travel into the woods and take pictures of the beauty and bring back for me to see. I will be back to enjoy nature, and be away from concrete.
Two beauitful water falls. The lodge has motel rooms and cabins. The food at the resturant is great.
Enjoyable. Good food. Comfortable bed. Pretty Lodge falls nearby. Saw a beaver/badger right outside patio. Wish it hadnt rained or wed enjoy the pool. Friendly staff and waitress. Veg soup in bread bowl was great. We normally camp but it was booked.

Great service during cabin check in. This is where you go to check in for motel rooms and cabins. They also have plenty of brochures, hiking maps, and sell firewood here. The breakfast buffet was just ok, but inexpensive. Would go again.
Love staying at the Lodge. Hiking and good food
Good food and good service. We had the appetizer sampler, the applewood salmon, and the farm raised catfish special. Highly recommend it. The batter on the catfish, mushrooms, and onion rings was very light and not greasy at all. Everything was clearly freshly prepared and worth the wait.

Steak was tuff to the point I could not chew it. It had been soaked raw in dales till it was so salty you could not of ate it anyway. Salad bar good. Potatoe was good. Service was young and nice. No one of age seen.

Well our first time, not to great,fist was told by one very young girl that she would look for us a table,only 3 other couples in there,sat down at table which appears to be clean until you put your hands on,then felt nasty and sticky,for the price, pretty bad, didnt look fresh,and appertizer was very small, salad was good,look at Rock floors,at one time they might have been pretty but at this point was very dirty....at least we tried it

Went to eat about 740 ish at night and they do close at 8 but in my opinion you should get the same great food and service at 740 as you get when they open. Its summer time, people dont get dont with activities till 7 to 8. Went for breakfast next day at 900. Service was excellent ... the food was bland and tasteless, the biscuits were like concrete. I would like to try the seafood buffet.
