Visit today to ride thru the preserve, as per the website there are biking trails... Mountain biking, as its rough terrain, so not for my touring bike... Swampy conditions after all the rain here in SW Florida, so be prepared with boots, bug spray, and of course, your camera... Beautiful looking preserve, looks like an adventure worth taking...
My absolute favorite place in the state of Florida. There is a mixed variety of stunning systems at work all throughout this 9,000+ acre preserve - first established in the state in 1966. Bear in mind that all species, plant and animal alike, are protected and are prohibited from being removed or disturbed! Also, leave no trace ethics are absolutely necessary when visiting this pristine area. Coming here instills a sense of ownership and stewardship within and it’s incredible.
Poorly maintained. Deep tire tracks in the trail made it impassible and hold water.
Lots of trails, but carry bug repellent .. the trails arent flat but have vehicle tire marks
Nice location but can get very wet
Nice place to walk a dog and enjoy nature.
Excellent hike. Enjoyed it very much, dont mind the mud but can us some filling. Was wondering can we camp out there?
Very primitive, unimproved but quite interesting. No bathrooms, no maps. Wear good shoes or hikers and take your phone. There is evidence of wild pigs there also and beware because they can be dangerous.
Love the nature, but it was to muddy. We will try again when it dries up.
A very natural area with no facilities and with street parking. Trails are a pleasant walk and are maintained well enough that you wont easily get lost. Trail condition will be based on how much rain has fallen, on my trip during the dry season, the park was bone dry, no standing water anywhere. Because of this, there were no birds to see but also no mosquitoes. A visit during the rainy times I would expect a lot more standing water and bugs.
This is a great place to find birds and take a walk away from the crowds, be warned though it can be very muddy in wet weather. I make sure to be wearing rubber boots . The trails are good and wide but it is easy to get lost so pay attention. There is a large pond that is very hard to find, actually there are 2 ponds both are hard to find they are surrounded with trees. You can walk all the way down to Estero bay . this is a large mud flat and there are a lot of wild boars around, you can see tracks everywhere you look but you wont see them during the day .
It can get very hot & humid out and mosquitoes can be a problem but besides that its a nice little walk. A lot if land to cover. If you have a Four Wheeler or DirtBike, it is a perfect place to ride. Already trails from fourwheelers. Also, I heard theres good HOG hunting out there. Ive never seen any hogs. That doesnt mean theyre ot out there.
When dry, its very cool!
Excellent place to hike (when the water is low). The dried up lake beds and estuaries provide a scene unlike any other in Florida!
Nice walk, not much to see though
