The Murphy-Burroughs House, also known as the Burroughs Home and Gardens, is a historic home in Fort Myers, Florida. It is located at 2505 1st Street. On August 1, 1984, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The Burroughs Home provides living history tours and functions as an event venue. The three-story home sits on the Caloosahatchee. The beautiful veranda wraps around 3 sides of the house. Monas Dancing Porch extends from the East side of the Historic Structure. Completion of a large, open waterfront pavilion occurred in 2015 to accommodate weddings and events.

We highly recommend this house tour. The docent shared a wealth of information about the history of the area, house, the families that lived in the Burroughs house and their friendships with people in the Ft. Myers area. We were able to tour all three floors of the house. This house is in excellent condition and an accurate example of homes from that period in history. Must see!!

Have been here several times for weddings, fund raisers, and other events. Always well put together, clean, and welcoming.

Each year the womens club of fort Myers decorates these homes for Christmas. For$5, it is more than reasonably priced and a great look into the past. For a savy night out, try downtown house of Pizza before or after.

Two beautiful historic homes spectacularly decorated for Christmas by the Fort Myers Womens Club. The cost is incredibly reasonable. You have access to the entire homes. The Burroughs property goes all the way to the river.

Beautiful venue for an event. Has an open, but covered structure in the backyard, so you will always have a Plan B for outdoor events.

I worked an event here as a part of the catering staff, and I was blown away by how stunningly beautiful this property was. The wood detailing indoors is gorgeous, I loved the paintings, the trees, the view of the Caloosahatchee River,...I’m excited to return for a tour to see the full home and gardens.

One of the best historical tours all in one place. So many interesting details. The tour begins with a brief intro re: home and gardes....you can even sit on the furniture! Then proceed to exploring each floor, most rooms, and the beautiful gardens on the water. Fun for visititors and residents alike.

It was a very pleasant evening touring the Burroughs House. The Christmas decorations were beautiful and nicely done. Admission is very reasonable.

So much more information and or history of the houses could be offered. Christmas music throughout both houses wouldve been nice. Who lived in those houses? Was it same time frame as Ford and Edison? Even with the 2 pianos in the house, recordings could be made and playing.. softly. You have so much in the rooms, but we couldnt enjoy it! Beautifully set and so pretty.

Anyone visiting the area should check this place out. In some ways, its even cooler than the Edison Home. The old wooden architecture is definitely worth seeing, and the interior is completely restored with period furniture. If youre interested in this for the history, also check out the Fort Myers History Museum.

Pretty stale in all honestly.Houses are poorly maintained with mold in one of the top left bedrooms from a roof leak.Half ass repairs .Place is a dump that has been poorly maintained by I would guess a handy man

Best holiday value in Lee County or maybe SW Florida. Open for a limited time during Christmas holidays. Fabulous decorating job done by the ladies and staff. A cant miss visit.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the place and it was nice. But we paid full price to have our wedding there and for them to have the place under construction on the big day with tools laying around and the two women in charge to be completely sour to us and our guests. Let alone show up in a tank top and tights. They packed up our reception an hour early, and denied me a drink the moment they did. Easy to say the day is not about the bride and groom. Anyway I wish luck to anyone trying to work with Magean or Jena. They will sell a great character and flip a switch the day of your event, and after when you try to contact them about it. Other than the people, the place is beautiful.

Great house museum, learned alot

I love coming to this place when they have the holiday houses. Its really beautifully decorated. I also visited here with my daughters 5th grade class. If I could, I would love to spend the night in this home.

Get the historical tour of both houses! You will feel totally transported to the early 20th century, which is such a great feeling as much of our community is so newly developed. Sometimes we forget we have history here!
