It was Girls night out so we went to dinner and then to this fabulous HS production of The Bodyguard! Walking into the auditorium, we spotted a rainbow! The singing talent was amazing and at intermission we bought some freshly made popcorn! The only problem was an occasional glitch in the sound system, but it was minor!

My son goes to this school and they never fail to be an entertaining group of kids doing amazing things. The staff seems genuinely into making a great experience for each child. Worth visiting even if your kids dont go there.

The Dillard Center for the Arts is a live performance venue on the campus of Dillard High School. Dillard High School is a performing arts magnet high school and they put their shows on in the Arts Center which offers music, dance, and theater performances to the general public.I came to the center to view a performance of Peter and the Wolf by the South Florida Symphony. Since I knew it was at a high school I was expecting a high school auditorium but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the theater was. The small (roughly 400 seat) auditorium was clean and the chairs were comfortable. Since the venue is not large all of the seats offer a good view of the stage. Some of the upcoming shows available for purchase include the Marvelous Wonderettes Dinner Theater, a concert by the schools award winning Jazz ensemble, a dance performance by the schools students called Just Dance!, and the musical The Bodyguard. Tickets can be purchased on the Dillard Center for the Arts website and they offer a student discount.Dillard High School was established in 1907. Its a historic school and was the first public school for African Americans in Ft. Lauderdale. It was a enlightening to see how this performing arts school is thriving today. I enjoyed the concert I saw in the theater and I now I am interested in supporting the students and seeing some of their performances. Most tickets are an affordable $10.

Awesome performance of The Body Guard by the students! Even though I didnt partake, at intermission they served spaghetti, salad and bread. I thought that was awesome!!

The area is always clean from what it seems, the kids are seemingly dedicated to their schoolwork, homework, and extracurricular activities. However, it seems the teachers may not care about the students as they are behind in some teachings or dont feed the kids when they have them stay hours after school, not even warning them that they should eat. This school is a decent school, but beware the bullying here can be heavy as well.

Dillard is an incredible place for Performing Arts. From the programs to the facilities it is Ft. Lauderdales best kept secret. The performances are professional, you wont even think youre at high school. Everything is world class. From the vocalists, to the musicians to the dancers to the actors. Check them out on Goldstar for performance discounts.

Students are not controlled, security flirts with students instead of escorting students to the bathroom or patrolling the halls, school is dirty, most of the bathrooms are locked, and counselors are no help. The cafeteria also serves dry food and sometimes its overcooked. The people who work in student affairs are selectively generous to those they speak with. People who work in the office ( assistant principal, counselors, etc. ) Walk around bad mouthing and swearing all the time.

I had the opportunity to watch some incredible performers on the stage of this arts-focused school. Singer and songwriter, Jason Derulo, is an alumnus of Dillard Center For the Arts. If you live in Fort Lauderdale and you have a talented young artist in the family, you may want to consider this school.
