Loved everything about this Historic Mansion. Diane is a Very great Tour Guide, she always was up for answering questions about the Mansion. There is so much to see there, if you happen to be in the area, put this Mansion on your itinerary. Everything we learned from the Riordan Brothers to the Metz sisters was all very educational and fascinating. The Mansion wasn’t hard to find at all. It’s right next door to the College Campus. Went in the Beginning of November 2019, and have to say the weather was just perfect. I don’t want to post too much about the History of the mansion because that’s what makes the tour interesting. 12.00 dollars for Tour per person. All the Funds do go towards Mansion repairs and keeping everything running. Make sure you charge your digital camera and or cell phone because you’ll want to take plenty of pictures of the Home. Wear comfortable shoes, you’ll be doing a lot of walking. Tour is about an Hour long. (November 2019)
A really great historic gem in the heart of Flagstaff. The free visitors center has cool displays of historic furniture, tools, toys, and some really amazing antique photographs. You can also take a short walking tour around the home and learn about the exterior. The $12 home tour is also amazing and I highly recommend it. The encroaching city takes away from the ambiance a bit, but a visit is well worth supporting a local historic site.
This was a fun experience. We paid for the tour and got to walk through the house and take pictures on the tour. Would recommend to friends, but probably wont return. The story of the house is pretty cool though! And the grounds outside the house are beautiful as well.
This house is going down in our favorite house museums ever - special thanks to Margie, who was the perfect docent. Hilarious jokes, heaps of interesting facts, and a great level of enthusiasm. Can’t wait to come back again in a few years. :)
Beautiful home with a very unique history. There was much to learn about one of the founding families of Flagstaff. The staff were very knowledgeable tour guides. There is also a small gift shop.
Great experience and really interesting. The tour was very informative and learned a lot about Flagstaff beginnings.
Went on a tour that lasted an hour this place was very interesting & the craftsmanship that was put into building this place is astonishing. My 7 year old even loved the tour definitely enjoyed the history
Great staff, really amazing tour and great visitor center. I really loved how beautifully the house was preserved and the interactiveness of the museum is on point
Loved walking through this mansion. What a beautiful Catholic family that lived here. It is 100% not haunted like others try to say. I was intrigued by the supposed haunted label, but realized as soon as we went inside, it was the house of a holy and good family. Quiet, peaceful, a Crucifix and holy pictures in every room. It was a pleasure to see and decorated just as it would have been 80 years ago! Our tour guide Marilyn was very knowledgeable. So glad I saw this mansion.
Loved this place and the story. Great architecture. Relaxed tours. Beautifull period home from a famous local family.
What a gem!! We stumbled upon this lovely historic home and it is now on my must visit while in Flagstaff list. Wonderful tours of the home and self guided tours around the grounds. A fasinating family and history, as well as a great example of the Arts and Crafts movement architecture and funiture. Dont miss it, if you enjoy history!!
Admittedly, it looked a little boring, but I was pleasantly surprised by the history and how the functional architecture blended with the natural surroundings. It was actually fun learning and seeing how people lived back when life was both simpler and more trying. The VOLUNTEER tour guides were very well informed and ready to answer any question. What I though was going to be a quick stop in Flagstaff turned out to be a couple hours of wonder and awe.
What a neat place and the history behind it is fascinating. I must see attraction well worth the low cost and time.
Loved the history, depth of knowledge of the guide and beauty of the place.
The guided tour was informative. They do a good job preserving the mansion. The mansion looks like inside the Boyce Thompson Arboretum Mansion.
This is a really cool historic mansion. We were looking for something to do in town, and this came up. The location is great, right next to campus, and we enjoyed a really interesting, hour-long tour from a local docent. The architecture and furniture is the big draw, but it was also very fun learning about the history of one of Flagstaffs most important families. Overall, a nice, unique and affordable location to stop for a visit if youre in town.
Great for Flagstaff history, period architecture and Stickley furniture. Highly recommend a visit!!
If you love historic homes this is a must-see its a beautiful place. Small fee for the tour but its worth it.
Great place to visist if you are in town, lots of history here
They have tour every hour. I highly recommend to take the tour. Its was a lovely house/museum experience.
Very interesting and informative. Quite a place for its time period. Highly recommend visiting.
Very impressive and the tour guide was quite knowledgeable. Enjoyed our stop there.
This is a great attraction to see. I personally would not go out of my way just to see it but if you happen to be nearby or driving by (like I was) and are looking for something to do or need to pass some time, this is a great choice. Its $12 a person (kids are cheaper) and the tour is about one hour.
Me and my family loved this location. It was not at all what we had expected and I was grateful that it was different. The history of the family and their businesses was vast and impressive. This family more or less helped build what is now Flagstaff. The tour guide was knowledgeable and answered our questions with ease. I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes to learn about history and see some great architecture.
Very fun. Suggest call prior to get on a tour. Otherwise u may have to wait. Loved the guide.
Very informative. Just a really cool thing to see while in Flagstaff.
Really interesting architecture and history of Flagstaff at the mansion. I really enjoyed seeing all the Mission style furniture.
Love the History of the Riordans Family
Very interesting tour. Guide was very knowledgable about the family which enriched the experience.
Really interesting to visit. You learn a lot about the history of Flagstaff and the museum guide is great. Thank you.
An amazing turn of the century mansion. Great piece of AZ history. Extremely knowledgeable staff.
Be sure to do the guided tour. Starts every hour. Enjoyable walk through the mansion.
A gem for anyone who appreciates history or architecture. Sofie did an absolutely incredible job guiding our tour. So glad we stopped here.
Take a tour into the past of the Riordan Families who pioneered the large sawmill founded here. This Mansion consists of two homes with a shared common area for the two brothers and their families. It is full of history and antiques and an interesting way to spend an hour on their tour or exploring the beautiful grounds.
Great guide. Very interesting and informative.
Very interesting look at a family key to growth of Flagstaff. Pretty well preserved house for 112 years, with great examples of furnishings, etc
On the last tour of the day and i was the only one! Personalized tour of a beautiful craftsman style house. Make sure you go around the corner as gps takes you to the wrong entrance.
A great look at an arts and crafts masterpiece.
Pretty view quiet grounds
Went to the Christmas tour. It was nice but a lot of walking and no heat so pretty cold in the winter. The history was great to learn about. Overall had a good time. If you have trouble walking a lot or standing in one spot for long then it may not be for you. There are also stairs.
What a really nice piece of northern AZ history extremely well preserved. I enjoyed our guide, Anita, she told the family story in a very memorable way.
Unusual home of two pioneering Flagstaff families, built in 1904. We took the guided tour of the house led by a very knowledgeable docent.
Very unusual and interesting house. Take the guided tour. Guides are very knowledgable. Worth the trip!
Amazing 13,000 sq. Ft. 40 room cabin mansion built by a Chicago family out of Ponderosa pine logs!
Lots of history here, guided tours very informative. Really neat with lots of original furniture and fixtures. Highly recommend, must see.
I took the tour inside and out. Excellent! Learned alot about this family and how they came to build these homes, and yes there are two homes here.
We enjoyed walking around the mansion on the self-guided tour.
Loved seeing Riordan all decked out in Christmas. Our guide, John, was very knowledgeable and learned a few new things that I hadnt heard from a previous visit. I brought a friend/family member visiting from Nebraska and it was a perfect snowy day activity that brought Flagstaffs history to life.
Very interesting. Guide was very knowledgeable.
Our tour guide Audrey was so sweet and great with the kids. We had a great time and learned a ton. The grounds are beautiful especially in the winter, great place for kids to get some energy outside before doing the tour. It takes about an hour, but goes by fast with all the stuff to see.
Wonderful collection of memorabilia and our tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable.
Very informative tour guide, Ken.House (s) quite impressive. Enjoyed the arts and crafts architecture and decor.
Loved the history lesson and the way people lived. The tour guide did a great job.
Cool place to visit. Friendly knowledgeable staff.
The 1905 homes are very interesting and the tour was well done. We really enjoyed it.
A great place to go and learn about the early familys of Flagstaff. I recommend it to all heading that direction.
Great tour with the docent John. He was enthusiastic and ultra knowledgeable about the history of the home and Flagstaff history in general. A must do when visiting Flagstaff!
Really enjoyed Richards talk on the Grand canyon and Major Powell
Fascinating tour led by an extremely knowledgeable guide. With an interest in mission furniture and the arts and crafts movement, my partner and I found this a great stop on our vacation.
We nice house, docent did not know her facts.
The tour was informative and fun. I would love to do it again soon. Lots of photos and family pieces that make history come alive. Details and facts about Flagstaff history.
Didnt do the guided tour. Staff was kinda rude when they told us to keep the kids practically in our arms. They didnt seem like they wanted to give us a tour and just carried on a conversation between themselves while we there. Maybe if you dont have kids its a good spot, but if you do its better to go elsewhere.
Was a ver good experience with lots of information. Teri was a great guide.
One hour tour of historic homestead and information about a family dedicated to community service and development
Do not book your wedding here. What a rip off. Guests are not even allowed to park nearby. We had to walk far and they even asked us to talk to every single one of the guest to not park in the area. That is crazy considering the ridiculous ammount of fee they asked. Very disappointing.
Amazing historic park in Flagstaff. A must see for anyone visiting the town. Flagstaff, Lake Mary, Snowbowl and most things in the area owe their existence to the Riordan family. Seeing their house and experiencing the early 20th century lively hood is a fantastic experience. The one hour guided tour is extremely informative and entertaining.
This is a wonderful slice of Flagstaff History. Do not expect a Wrigley or Vanderbilt mansion. The volunteers are well versed and delightfully informative. In addition, the added Talks that the volunteers put on are very well presented. This is a not to Misss activity while in Flagstaff.
Excellent 1 hr tour given by a very informative guide. This arts and craft mansion had many conveniences for the period it was built (1904).. 2 wood baron brothers and their families lived here.. 2 mirror houses joined by a common room.. pretty neat!
A lot of fun and also pretty cheap it was beautiful and we learned a lot
An incredible piece of Arizona history. Very beautiful.
Fun lil place to stop & visit. Beautiful place.
In my youth I fell into what I couldnt realize then was a dream job, Park Ranger at Riordan Mansion. Ive given that tour over 2,000 times and can still give it backwards and forwards. Once the Riordan Mansion is in your blood, its there to stay. Foolishly, I left there to pursue a dream job once I finished my degree at NAU, too young and foolish to realize that I was already there. I have nothing but regret over leaving and fond memories of the mansion. Go there and often, each tour is just a little different and there is always more to see. Ive been back only twice in the 25 years since I left, too painful a reminder.
Fascinating story of the Riordan Family. Grounds are well-maintained. Most of all, the design of the house and all the surrounding areas are most interesting. Its a place I would want to live in that time period.
Susan did a great job presenting the tour.
We had a great guide and a great time thank you for the experience
Great house. Very informative tour.
It was really cool but I wish I could see more
Enjoy the history provides by the your guides, thank you.
Great example of Craftsman architecture and period construction. Outstanding historical information about northern Arizona and Flagstaff. A must see for visitors and residents of Flagstaff.
Randomly chose this site while in Flagstaff. Ended up being a great choice! Very interesting. Lots of area history. Tour guide had a heart for the family & property. Her enthusiasm was contagious.
Fascinating history, well worth the modest admission of $10.
We did not go inside the house but we bought a pamplet and took the self tour and really enjoyed it!! I wish the tour wasnt so much because the kids would have LOVED it. Im hoping to find something on youtube. I really enjoy historical architecture and botany so this was a fun stop. The entrance welcome center and gift shop was really great. Theres a table of old items that can be touched and played with and that was fun for the kids and me. There is a LOT in there alone! Its really a great spot to learn about that time period without caring much for the Riordan history, honestly. The kids had a fun time running around the area, looking at the old photos and tall pines. I do think their favorite part was the welcome center. The staff was great too and gave them a coloring sheet and buttons. Its worth an hour of your day to stop and take a stroll.
Pretty cool and interesting place. Didnt get a chance to do the guided tour this time, but the self guided tour was still cool.
Learned so much of the history of Flagstaff. The house itself was built to last and the design is awesome. My wife is really into classic collectibles and the house is full of them to view. Hand made furniture everywhere and the staff was so informative.
Price point, accommodation and service are outstanding! But REMEMEBER, this is an outside venue and you must be flexible with what mother nature brings.
The outside self-guided tour was informative. The guided tour was worth the cost.
Great guided tour and an interesting piece of Flagstaff history!
An interesting home and a tour that gives you a personal insight into family life at the time. Fascinating.
This place is rather magical. A step back in time, the air smells of pine.
Had a lot of fun. Learned a lot about Flagstaff history.
We have heard about this place and was very interesting. Our guide made it better.
Very knowledgeable staff. very enjoyable
BEAUTIFUL! Well worth the money. Staff was helpful, engaged, they really went out of there way to make this a great visit. Tours start on the hour so plan to get there right before. Areas for a picnic outsidé.
This Family is rich in Arizona History. Very interesting in how they lived then.Cannot touch anything, understandable, very visual almost hands-on. Have visited several times and has always been enjoyable. This was one of the first families to occupy this area.
