Such a cool place to stop and check out cliff dwellings just outside Flagstaff. The hike is easy if you are in moderate shape. Lots of stairs so not wheelchair friendly down unto the canyon. The rim trail is better suited for the less physically inclined.

We love anything National, so when we last minute decided to stop by on a whim. Because we Google this place, didnt disappoint! Staff nice, social distancing mostly observed, limit peeps inside the store.at bottom of Island trail, theres a 1 way directional path, unfortunately the 700+ steps up and down werent. Be aware that trail closes at 3:30pm. Cool to observe the CLiff dwellings up close!

Walnut Canyon is absolutely gorgeous, and the trails are very well marked and maintained. Theres a lot of great information about the indigenous people who made this area their home, as well as reminders about the importance of conservation. The hikes arent very long, but the Island Trail was a little difficult for us on the way back (you climb about 30 flights of stairs).

Easy reach from Flagstaff, fascinating history of how the native Americans lived in the natural cliff dwellings. Moderate walk down some 300 steps but then you have to climb them back up! Just take your time and you too can do it!

Beautiful aera. Short hike but lots of stairs. Kids and families loved it from what I over heard when I was there. I will be back, very cool to see the dwellings up close. The elderly wished they could have seen everything but were concerned about the stairs. There is a difference path along the canyon that is good and can be done in a wheelchair. All pathways were well maintained. Great info signage along the main hike too!

This place was awesome. Loved the view, the walking path was amazing!!!! It was a perfect place to be out in nature. We were crunched for time while visiting this, due to incoming rain, so there was a lot of the path we didn’t make it to. What we did see was truly beautiful!

This was an extremely interesting visit. We had children with us who the park rangers gave workbooks to so they could learn about various plants and other attractions. One trail consisted of steps that led down to a loop. The stairs were steep but our group went down, then up without stopping. Many seniors were stopping to enjoy the scenery and to rest along the steps. What the indians built was impressive and ideal considering what they had to work with. We gad a senior pass but this site is worth the cost they charge. Very interesting lessons to be learned here.

The views were stunning and very informative. You can see easily a few dozen Hopi dwellings and enter some of them. This park is great for a short and sweet visit if youre trying to follow a dense schedule. The hike is a short 1 mile trail with lots of stairs that wrap around the main area of the canyon and is relatively easy on the body. We took our friend who is asthmatic and he seemed to push through with little trouble. The stairs might be of a slight problem for older people or those out of shape. Luckily there is stable railing along the steps in which you can pace yourself through. All in all a worthwhile journey, even through the rain and snow.*Note that the accessibility lift was broken as of this writing.
