Not only good instruction but I found i was already planning for my next class part way through the first. His passion and skill were infectious and I was able to make something that I was proud of! Highly reccomend!

Flagstaff Forging is as real as it gets.Let me preface this by first stating, that I have never written a critique or felt the need to leave an opinion on a performance or anything for that matter.  That being said... My wife surprised me with a gem of a gift!I came to Joshs forge/studio with very little expectations and was greeted with a warm smile and welcoming attitude to the art of blacksmithing.Having 4 hrs to work with Josh, I wanted to make the most of our time together. Joshua guided me through the process of fabrication. Giving insight to the molecular changes taking place within the steel and the methods to best bring my concept to life from the raw steel.Staying a couple steps ahead, Josh visually mentored how to work the metal. Hammering side by side, jamming to tracks from Sublime, Green day, and Bob Marley, it was cathartic to bang away at glowing red steel.  Unlike any other class or trade course, Josh never took hold of my piece (only once to demonstrate how to safely handle pliers when manipulating the steel between anvil and forge). He gives full autonomy to the student, allowing them to manifest the best piece from the students imagination.I wanted to leave his forge with a functional piece. I did just that, along   with an experience I share with everyone I come across these days.Drop the hammer with Josh... if anything it will leave you with numb hands, buffed shoulders and a real appreciation for the artistry of metal work.  While for myself it left me with an indelible mark I will not forget.Till next time Josh,James Alba

I spent 4 hours at Joshs studio a couple of weeks ago to take the Blacksmithing course I was given as a birthday present. I had no experience with this craft but came out with a useful, beautiful (if I do say so myself!) tool. The time went by quickly as Josh taught me to heat, hammer, grind, sand etc. a piece I came up with partly on my own after looking at Joshs completed projects. If Id had a couple more hours I could have made it perfect (!), but I think its not bad for a first try. Josh was informative and encouraging during the process and made his own knife at the same time so he was able to show the process without doing my work for me!

I bought a Flirting with Fire package for mu (adult) daughter and my husband. When they came back they couldnt wipe the smiles off their faces for hours. Josh took time with them and listened to what they wanted to do and they came home with two great projects. Overall an incredible experience and a dream come true for them both. I am now recommending it to ALL of my friends. What a gem!

My husband and I took a private Intro To Blacksmithing class with Josh. He is an incredible teacher. He kept the atmosphere very casual and comfortable, and taught us how to safely blacksmith. This was the perfect place to learn blacksmithing basics. Josh showed us how to make the project and was very patient in instructing us. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who is interested in learning about blacksmithing.

Learning to blacksmith with Josh is the best. I received a lesson as a gift and loved the experience so much, I bought another session right after.

Yesterday we unleashed our inner vikings in Joshuas forge and made our own knives in our first class ever! Joshuas teaching style and humor makes you forget about the thought of your arm possibly falling off as he keeps you having an educational blast the whole way through. We learned lots of tips and tricks in just 3 hours and were hands on with his expert guidance through the entire process. Josh was also great about taking epic photos to help us capture the experience for a lifetime. In the end we were successfully able to quote It will cut (dont judge us for being huge Forged In Fire geeks ha). We walked away feeling like we had made a friend along with our knives. We are already planning our next class in the future and ready to start slinging the hammers again! Thank you for an unforgettable experience Joshua!

Bought a gorgeous hunting knife from Josh after seeing some of his work on Instagram. Custom built and couldnt be happier with it. Shipped it to Michigan for me!

Had an awesome time taking Joshs blacksmith class. He was a fantastic teacher and we had a great time turning metal rods into knives. We had a group of 8 and his shop was well suited for us. None of us had ever blacksmithed before but felt like pros by the end of the day.

Blacksmithing feels like one of those things that is out of reach. Something that you always thought was cool, but obviously you could never do yourself. But, you dont have to travel to 16th century England to be a blacksmith. You can make something cool right now. And Joshs classes make that possible. I took the 2nd Saturday class and in just a couple hours turned an old, rusted piece of rebar into a functional piece of art. And you can too. His instruction was simple and effective and literally within just a few minutes of the start of class, my project was already taking shape. And theres fire, and noise, and hammering and, boiling, and heat. Its an absolutely incredible experience. 100% recommend. Maybe I will see you there, cause I will definitely be back.

My daughter and I have been watching the “forged in fire” show and so when we saw an opportunity to give it a try, we jumped. We took the “taste of blacksmithing” class from josh. He was very instructive on technique and had us feeling confident quickly. He was fun, patient and encouraging. I heartily recommend Josh’s class for everyone interested in trying something new.

I took the blacksmith 101 class with Joshua. I had a great time as he walked me through the steps of making my first knife and hook. I really liked his approach of him doing the steps first as an example, then I would follow. Highly recommend!

It was a ton of fun learning how to blacksmith. Josh is a great teacher and there was never a dull moment. If you’ve ever wanted to try it, I would definitely suggest going with Josh. You wont be dissappointed!

Nice to connect with a fellow artist and learn a new craft. This workshop was more than I expected, it definitely opened a new door of possibilities for me along with appreciating the work behind the craft. Good teacher. Everyone should try this at least once in their lifetime.

Signed up for the beginner 101 blacksmithing class and it was THE MOST FUN we’ve had learning a new skill in a long, long, time. Joshua is a great guy, and a great teacher - and that is coming from a teacher myself. He explained everything in detail but also let us do our own thing and just create! We felt like artists and yet we’re doing everything for the first time! I couldn’t recommend Joshua’s classes more highly and I am already yearning to get back in the garage to create more!
