The NRA museum is great, every part of it is memorable. Its also probably the only truly free museum Ive visited, no entrance fee and they didnt take money out of my paycheck to fund it. It inspired me to restart my membership, thank-you.
If you enjoy being an American and lube your freedom sticks with melting snowflakes then youll enjoy the fine art and craftsmanship of everything in there! Items from around the world and things youve never heard of on display. The free tour is WELL worth your time. You could spend an easy 3 hours reading and admiring the beauty of all things perfect.
A very tight museum with a nice collection of very high quality firearms. The staff is professional and of the utmost respect for patrons. For a free museum is definitely worth a visit, however, even for a small fee, they could use that to organize the exhibits a bit better and broaden the usage of space. If youre a firearms buff then you wont need a guide, but if youre there to learn about mechanical or the history, there are better museums to visit. All in all, a great place to look if youre in the DC area and into firearms.
Fantastic museum with hundreds of authentic pieces. We enjoyed the hours spent scouring the exhibits. One of the most extensive collections Ive seen to date.
This place is great! Definitely worth visiting even if youre not a gun nut, there is an insane amount of history in that museum. You can catch a free guided tour or they have touch screen kiosks throughout that detail the collections in each case. I lived this place, like a kid in a candy store!
No person, Institution, Organization, or branch of any government thereof should ever become; Judge, Jury, and Executioner. In comparison of media reports and in context of a simple visit, a reasonable person will understand guns are a simple tool not even considering the actual rights granted to all of us under the constitution of the country. I have been a member since 2011 I think. I am also a Life member. And a Golden Eagle. However, I received my basic training from the Isaac Walton League of America and online State PD verification free of charge. You can do the same and more. Everyone love and care for their children in one way or another. And at times caring for others children is the best reflection of how much you treasure yours. The point is I am certain no member of the NRA wants to see random shootings. I do not however speak for the management or staff of the NRA. I encourage you to visit the Museum in Fairfax, VA to get your own perspectives of firearms and the organization. Tours are usually at 1pm but you can walk through doing any open hours. Travel through safe jurisdictions to visit the shooting range but youll need to bring your own legally acquired firearms.
A great stop if you are interested in the history of firearms and the Second Amendment. The exhibits range from the first black powder firearms to modern weaponry. There are sections that cover movie guns, and many others have a lot of history behind them. Take the time to speak to a docent - they have a lot of knowledge and can tell you the stories behind many of the exhibited guns. We heard quite the story about a particular shotgun...
Very very cool place to go and free admittance! You dont have to be a gun lover to appreciate the displays and the rich detailed history associated with the weapons on display! *Bonus points if you can name 1/4 of this collection without reading the plaques! Great place to just stop in even if you just have a few minutes. Its free! And this is Merica after all and you are too! So stop in and enjoy, they accept donations and have kiosks for easy lifetime NRA membership signups.
It was good and there are a lot of historical rifles there but I dont collect older rifles so it was not as interesting as it could be.
Beautiful machinery from the moment you walk in. Real history within these walls. If you get the chance and you have an interest it is Definitely worth the time. Plus the admission is free.
Very cool place. Much larger and much more to see than expected.
Great range. Clean and well maintained. One of the nicest ones in the DC area.
Fantastic collection of firearms. The museum is very well laid out and takes you through the history of firearms through the ages. The curator was out walking the floor when we were there and his knowledge and stories are great. You can get a tour from him at certain times of the day. If you have an interest in firearms you could easily spend 3-4 hours here, even if you dont have a big interest give yourself at least an hour to look around at the impressive collection. They also have the expensive rare room with some truly special items. We found out that they have 2 other locations around the nation in Raton, New Mexico and Springfield, MO. We are looking forward to visiting the other locations
If you are into firearms this is an excellent spot to check out. They have firearms thousands of things to look at from revolutionary war up to modern times. They also have Rambos movie prop firearm and Scarfaces little friend. The cost is free so wont cost you an arm or a leg. If you feel like shooting there is a NRA indoor range in the same building.
A great place to learn the history of the Gun
Great collection of guns. very good display on the genesis of the second amendment. would have liked to see more technical information on the difference between shooting a black powder gun and a cartridge since most people will never have that experience. looking forward to going back
The history of firearms through the years is amazing and most of the ones on display are packed with history.
Excellent museum. One of the most extensive collection we have seen. The displays are categorized by periods and themes. Some of John Waynes firearms were donated. A must see destination.
Great collection, well presented. For a small museum, its got a huge collection and it is easy to spend a few hours here.
Very neat place. Over 3,000 firearms. If youre an enthusiast, youll need a couple hours at minimum. Almost hard to keep track of what youve seen and not seen.
We were lucky to receive a personally guided tour by Ric Nuemann. He took us through the museum and gave us the benefit of his knowledge about each of the exhibits. So many points of interest to a firearms aficionado.Highly recommended!
Not a fan of NRA politics but the museum east nice. A lot of cool handguns that interested me. Even had a movies section with this gun east used by this Persian on this movie. Cool. Light saber from star wars movies proves that it is actually a real thing.
This fabulous museum is full of weapons from recent as well as long past history. One can see how guns and pistols became more and more sophisticated with the passage of time. How cumbersome the weapons used to be in the centuries past. You could also stand next to a stuffed polar bear. They are so huge. Beautiful.
The whole place is about rich people gun collections and guns history lessons in the form of signs that might get you tire of reading. I dont care much about the history of guns so I was done with the exhibits in 30 minutes and it felt very repetitive, it was like they have too much of the same stuff. but the place is free so is worth trying if your in the area, parking is free. Fun fact: only museum without a weapons check point, you walk right in.
Amazing Info. Great tours. Some old some new. Great for the whole family
If you want a TRUE history of firearms then this is the place to be. Took a 2-hr guided tour - awesome. So much to learn about.
You could spend hours and hours in here. The history is just amazing. The pleasant surprise is at the end, where the have famous guns from blockbuster movies. I enjoy taking visiting family members to the museum and then head around the corner to visit the NRA range.
Love the museum and the layout. Even if your not into firearms the layout and information presented draws you into the history of firearms and ammunition.
I love this place. Pretty much the history of the world since the development of good steel. U have no pictures to post because they request no photography. Everything is behind glass which makes flash photos very tough.
A little small but worth seeing. Free admission.
Wow! guns guns guns. Very well presented in a very nice gallery. Worth checking out. Guns from every era.
Wonderful displays. Staff was courteous and helpful. One of the staff came out to chat with me about the museum and certain items on display. Very knowledgeable. Will go back if I am back in Fairfax again.
Fantastic display of guns for all intetests. Well worth a visit. The NRA is a wonderful organization!
All the years Ive lived in Nova Ive never been to this museum. What a great place I would encourage anybody who has any interest in this type of stuff to take a couple hours or a couple of days and go spend it there
I went car show that was there this morning. A wonderful turnout and show. The crowd was good size with a full variety of car trucks and motorcycles. Open until 3pm today. CHECK IT OUT !!
Excellent place for history of firearms, including historical events and those used in the movies. Great 9/11 tribute.
I’m not all that into firearms, but this place is actually pretty cool! We were lucky enough to go somewhere around 1pm because Monday through Friday they have this tour then. We jumped into the in-progress tour and it was very informative. The curator had been there 34 years and knew so much about every section. There was just soooooo much to look at. I have no idea what they possibly COULD’NT have there. Someone who is really into that kind of thing would be in HEAVEN!!! They even have lots of seating scattered throughout which is a very nice touch. Definitely worth seeing! I liked the bear (I forgot his name).
Awesome place, just currently closed due to the Covid 19 mess.
Why does it say open if its closed
Great collection of historical interest and value
Most fun is getting people who hate guns to tour the place. Invariably, in my experience, they enjoy it more than anyone. The guns of Hollywood is always a big hit.
The museum tells a story of the development of long rifles, revolvers, pistols and other firearms used in the be development of the United States, the defense provided in times of war, and enjoyment received by many sportsmen in hunting game and shooting targets, clays and Olympic events. A must place for those wanting to hear a true history of guns. If not, then those are not objective enough, you could learn something
Was far cooler than I expected. About 2 hours of interesting information.
Great museum thats free! The range is good too but they do not sell any firearms.
Awesome collections, lots of them you never see them before.
Amazing collection of superior artwork on engraved Firearms. Some excellent historical examples. Only caveat some of the commentary is not exactly unbiased.
If you enjoy guns, from the simple reliable verities to the exotic Who would ever even think of this, then this is the place to go. I was blown away by the sheer number of firearms and the wealth of information available. But be warned, you have to seek out the information at touch screen terminals. This involves finding the number of the exhibit you are at, the number of the particular show case you are at, and the number of the gun in the show case. If firearms are your thing, expect to spend at least 3-5 hours here. If guns dont tickle you fancy, be prepared for boredom after about 30 minutes. There are almost no exhibits that do not exclusively show off firearms.
Ok so heres the thing, I love museums... I love all kids of museums, even if Im not down with the whole message of the NRA, I am 100% down with a well curated museum to keep history alive and to show the public things that they otherwise might not see. This is just barely that. The museum has all of the guns and other artifacts needed to make an amazing museum and they are technically displayed for visual consumption by the public (also kudos to whole thing being free). The issue that I have is that the exhibits seem to be laid out in a some vague way that has very little flow which had me turned around more than once. It is barely chronological in order. On top of this there were items with little to no description without going to the randomly placed touch screen information centers (see pictures below where an item is marked 13 but 13 does not even appear on the description board. All in all if you love the NRA, or love firearms, this collection is massive and youll probably enjoy it. If you love history and museums, Id take this as a solid pass and drive a little further down the road to a better one.
Firearms museum amazing collection and its free!
Well catalogued set of collections with guns for war, hunting and self-defense. Highlights include some beautiful hunting guns, ivory handled pistols, Thomson machine guns and weapons from various movies (including a light-saber)
I needed some time to kill so I walked 1.8 miles pushing my daughter in her stroller to the NRA gun museum. I feared my time would.be for not, but to my satisfaction it was well worth the walk. The security to get in has the DC government busing feel which is cool with an all glass building. Inside is the personal and donated collections of famous names across the globe as well as unique pieces like the French crossbow from the battle of Cercy in 1346. The crystal clear glass displaying absolute works of art blew me away. Even if you are not a gun euthusaist but a fan or patron of art and craftmanship, that alone makes this a great recommendation. You do not have to be a NRA member (I am not), admission is free and the gift shop was incredibly low priced. I bought a Declaration of Independence for $7 unlike the forty dollars Nicholas Cage spent in National Treasure.
Very enjoyable. A small museum, very well laid out. The firearms on display are historic and some are incredibly beautiful. The exhibits change so a second visit should be just as interesting. We were only there for an hour, but would have enjoyed staying longer if we had more time.
Amazing collection of historical and memorable firearms. Very well kept and great museum.
The phone message and google said they are open. Drive all the way up here and they are closed!
They are more than just weapons they are works of art and tools when you see them up closeYou get the sense of the history when you look at each piece and realise that it wasnt just man that made us were we are today but his tools.
Really neat place... We often overlook these smaller venues because there is so much to see in the nations capital, but this deserves seeing.
Staff was very nice and informative. A must place to visit with thousands of amazing guns.
A trip everyone; gun owner or not; should make. Rich history of our country. Knowledgable staff. Friendly atmosphere.Definitely a two trip visit just encompass everything. Plenty of parking.
Awesome exhibit of very rare and unique firearms. A must see.
A great place to go for firearms fans and collectors and history buffs.
The history enclosed here is just mind boggling! Loved it -and we support gun rights to law abiding citizens. A must see!
There are truly many firearms here, some of them beautiful antiques, but all of them evocative of violence. There are taxidermied animals and carved animal tusks. I would have liked to have learned the story behind each gun, and the touch screen monitors in the corners are not as accessible to people without knowledge of guns.
Awesome collection
Its a really neat museum to visit. Provides a history of firearms and has some interesting exhibits. Would recommend for weapons enthusiasts. Its also has a nice eatery near it.
More variety than you can imagine...but needs better organization. After 3 hrs, youve seen a lot but hard to put in some kind of order.
Amazing Museum, better then some of the ones on the Mall, of you can make the drive, its worth it
Im not really a huge gun nut, but this museum was amazing. I wasnt expecting much, I was shocked at all that was shown. Mayflower and Jamestown Guns, President Lincolns firearms, US Military firearms, a Star Wars Stormtrooper rifle, etc, etc. Through the guns, the museum told the history of our country and the world. I was thankful that this was not some NRA propaganda museum, it was very professional. I would highly recommend it.
A truly stunning museum with a plethora of amazing and unique firearms.
This is a great collection of firearms. There are collections of firearms used in movies, historical events, hunting classics and modern weaponry
Very cool place could have spent all day and security was very friendly. Will definitely go back when I have more time to look and read
Lots of guns, history of gun and a top notch range at the back
If you are interested in firearms or firearm history, then this is a must visit for you. I have been to numerous museums and none even come close to the sheer number of firearms here. When you finish one area, there always seems to be a corner you missed with more stuff. I really like the themed rooms. The floor layout was a bit weird but I cannot blame them. If I had floor to ceiling cases of guns, I too would have trouble fitting it all. When I was there I think they were upgrading databases because not all of the touchscreen info stations worked. Kinda bummed about that but the gift shop is stocked with books of all sorts and prices on all items are not gouging you either.
My family loved seeing all the firearms and historic items. My husband and son took their time and looked at EVERYTHING. They loved it.
Museum of firearms? Makes no sense. Should be turned into a museum of peace and harmony.
Awesome place. Really too much info to absorb at one time. I was in awe about how many guns and the early gun.
Extensive collection of historic firearms & a tour pointing out notable firearms and famous people from yesteryear.
The displays were awesome. We liked it better than the Smithsonian museums. Tour guide was friendly and informative. Loved the movie prop gun room.
Had a car show this weekend at the NRA HQ great show the staff that works there are really nice the cafe area was clean with good food had a great time
Awesome Museum. Spent about 3 hours looking at what they had. And that was just a quick overlook. You can probably spend a day if you want to look at every gun.
We thought their exhibits were amazing! So many firearms, so little time. Wish we started earlier and allotted more time to spend in the museum. Nice gift shop as well.
Very impressive collection of vintage and current firearms. Found out that a majority of them were donated to the NRA. Just to much to take in this visit. Will have to return to finish up what I missed. There is a very impressive shooting range in the lower deck of the garage and they are very reasonably priced to shoot if you are a member. There is always something going on here so you would need to check the website and calendar to find out what they have planned.
Fantastic collection of firearms from the Pilgrim landing at Plymouth to the current military issue weapons.
They have lots to see from unique and historical. It’s free and the cafe is a great value, they don’t take advantage of you like most museums.
Lots of guns. Historical information was added to give meaning to the displays of guns. Many of the guns were demonstrations of how affluent persons can spend money on trivia. In some cases the art on the guns was amazing. In others, the art looked like a distasteful tattoo. The attempt to link the second amendment with killing large animals, opulent displays of wealth, conquering a race or continent, killing millions in wars, and keeping a militia was a stretch in all but one case. I was along for the ride. Ill never go back.
Most amazing collection of guns ever. Go join and support your right to bear arms.
This place is very interesting though one of the historic parts is far from the truth that you learn in college. So while its nice to look at the firearms I would not bother reading the things on the walls seems they need to take a few history classes.
This is a great opportunity to learn about American history without any cost to the public. A must see for any visitor to DC
NRA. Great place. History of rifles, firearms, liberty of guns in USA.Very cool place who loves guns and military culture. Whole history of era.Recommend to visit.
Well put together set UP and range
This is a really cool place. Easy to access, clean (almost spotless by museum standards), great collection of firearms, and they did a guided tour at 1pm the day we visited which was very entertaining and informative. The tour lasted about 90 minutes. If you know nothing about firearms, and if you have no appreciation for the role firearms has played in the history of the world (both good and bad), then dont waste your time here. If, however, you have an appreciation but perhaps only know basics about firearms, then I think you would enjoy visiting the museum. Even if you only have a really short attention span, a 30-45 minute visit is worth the trip. Entry is free, parking is free and they have a cafe in the other tower in case you are hungry.
Amazing collection of historically significant firearms. Go through on your own or take the 1:00 guided tour.
I am a proud american who enjoys target shooting and skeet shooting.Great museum, but the FBI display of mobster arms is better in my opinion. Stories told in this museum are displayed directly and given between the lines. I particularly enjoyed learning about the story of bump stocks and large magazines (up to 100 bullet drums) and the connection to politics. I personally feel safe with shotguns and pistols in my home for protection, and dont believe I should have the right to buy military guns for domestic use. They should add an exhibit on my favorite radio personalities -- some say they will keep thier guns with large magazines regardless of the laws. The NRA doesnt ask for my opinion on lobbying, but they should add it to the museum. I pay the NRA to get gun safety lessons to my son and they use that funding for lobbying to keep large capacity guns in american homes, something I dont believe in. The large capacity mags generally have the purpose of target fun and offense rather than defense.
Whether you shoot or not this is a place Im fantastic historic objects from the 1500 all the way to the present with some truly remarkable artifacts. Such as the accompanying photo of princess Diana personal gun which she shot quite a bit
I was amazed the collection was entirely donated. I have never seen such an amazing catalog of firearms. Free AND worth a visit. Firearms are not just for murder, they are also rich in history, artistry, craftsmanship.
Excellent place to visit if you enjoy historic weapons
AWESOME collection of firearms...... must see exhibits!
Quite interesting. I enjoyed the section dedicated to the entertainment industry. Additionally, as a senior citizen, I got a chuckle when I saw the coon hat displayed in the diorama of the young boys bedroom. The coon hat is identical to the one I have owned for several decades, stored away from my grands reach.God bless America! We must all join together to help continue to protect our rights for life, liberty, and property in America!
