Played golf at the vineyard on November 9, 2020. The course was in fine shape, but the rental clubs provided were awful. My son and I rented two sets at $35 each. I doubt you could buy these clubs for $35. The fairway wood I had something rattling in the head of the club. The clubs provided were dirty and obviously not sanitized. The putter provide in my set was a Ram. Does Ram even make putters today? This was shameful for the Vineyard to provide such inferior equipment.

Had a great day of golf today. Fairways were generally in good shape, but the greens need a little TLC. Some bunkers were in great shape, while some others needed a little work. There are some beautiful views on a handful of holes. I found the layout to be very interesting, with plenty of strategically placed water features and fairway bunkers. The par 3s are pretty easy though - maybe even TOO short. Staff was great. Played at the senior rate of $37 - didn’t have to ask for it either. That’s a good value for a well-maintained par 70 in North County.

Always been the best deal for the money in northern county, but this year the green fees have jumped and essentially doubled for Fall/Winter play since an afternoon discount will only get your 9-12 holes before sunset.I dont see the justification for the increase. Sand traps need some work, and during peak hours, the carts run out and you have to wait for a cart, log jamming the tee times. The fairways and greens are pretty decent for the price.Im not playing there until next summer when the afternoon rates allow for 18. If I rated this course 2 years ago, it would have been 4 stars.

Its a scenic course with a challenging layout and good greens. It does get very crowded, especially in the afternoon and weekends. Front nine is fairly flat and the back nine is hilly but has great views. Overall a fun course if you can beat the crowds.

Greens are okay, fairways very patchy. Bunkers were horrendous. Each one had grass growing in the sand and some had weeds 6 to 12 inches tall. Was terrible to try to hit out of bunkers. I guess they gave up on maintenance during the shut down while other courses still cared. Plus, theyve decided to charge even more in the mornings. Price for tee times is the same before quarantine but now theyve added a cart fee. Total rip off and not worth paying over $70 for this bad quality. We would rather play a course like Encinitas Ranch or RB Inn for a few extra dollars because their quality will be exponentially better. We wont be returning to Vineyards for a long time.

Disappointed with management and the courses policies. Took my mom here for her 70th birthday a few weeks ago. It was raining the morning of so I called to see if we could get a rain check but was told thats only possible if theres thunder and lightening. We ended up driving up from downtown san diego, by hole 7 it was dumping on us so we were forced to call it. I went to the pro shop to see if we could get a 9 hole rain check but was then told they only give out rain checks if the course is forced to shut down. Meanwhile my poor mother and I are just soaked in wet clothes. When I initially called I asked to speak with the general manager, I was told they werent in but would give me a call that week. Its been three weeks and I still havent heard from anyone. Unrelated but I was also told when checking in that I did not have a reservation, the website for some reason didnt record my pre-paid tee time. They had to bring a manager out and I had to pull up my email and show him my confirmation.

Played today: Really not an enjoyable round of Golf. 5 Long Hours: New procedure you can not check in and get your golf cart until 15 minutes before your tee time. You have to tote your golf bag from practice venue to venue if you want to hit balls, putt or chip prior to 15 minute before your tee time. If you drop clubs at bag drop no one helps, you can not get your cart so you tote your bags to an area waiting to be issued a cart. Golf course was not in very good shape many sand traps were muddy or wet, many fairways marked with white outlines as ground under repair. On one of the tee boxes an employee on a mower did not move out of the way to allow us hit tee shots even went as far as to keep mowing in front of the tee up and down preventing our teeing without possible injury to employee so we waited for him seems what he was doing was more important than paying customer making an already long round longer. There are many golf courses trying to find players what we saw and experienced today was not a way to lure golfers to return for additional rounds.

I think this golf course is a good because it has a practice range. When I became a member, it gaves me 200 balls every for practice. It a really good deal for me. A couple of things that bothers me.One. This place is a pretty hot compared to sorento canyon. I felt even hot because the Sun is in front of me in the morning.Today morning, it was approx. 84 degree. It was sweating a lot.Two. There are some bugs at the range. Especially, after I started sweating, more a little bugs were flying around my legs and arms.Other than these, I was good place.

It was my first time playing at The Vineyards Escondido. The course was beautiful and very forgiving. I would have given them five stars except there attendant who was driving around was a little rude. We were golfing in a little slow so he came to tell us to pick it up which is fine, but was rude about it. All four of us playing felt the same way and we had just met one of the players that day. Other than that we had a great time. I would recommend it.

I decided to take my 10 year old twins to a new course for us based on the ability to play after noon on a Saturday, with their Jr Golf Program. I was immediately told by the snooty club house man, You cant get them on till after the twilight which is 2:00 PM. I said ok, but the website of the program your club belongs to states it is available after noon. Quote of the SCGA website for Vineyard at Escondido states SCGA JuniorWalk up only (no tee times), M-Th Anytime, Fri-Sun and holidays after 12pm, Supervisor must pay cart or green fee, Driving range Sun, M, T, Th anytime He responded like a privileged country club pro, Well the website is wrong. After he sighed, he said, Ok this time ill let you go early. Gee thanks, I thought, I hope the other employees here are nicer. Luckily, they were. The course was a below average San Diego public course with tee boxes which were either dormant or in need of attention. Luckily we had fun on the course and my one guy chipped in for birdie on 17. Course management remember, I am a customer and have options. If the website is wrong, you need to fix it. That is the reason I drove to your course. Second, treating the youth that way is so close minded. These guys are the future of playing this game and paying your greens fees and salary. Dont worry about doing us a favor again. We wont be back. There are other options out there, who want our patronage.

Ri
Review №54

Nice course, not too long and has beautiful views. However, there are a couple of things you should know before playing. If you are a high handicap player and 90 is a good score, it will be a frustrating course to play, especially the first few holes. You must hit it straight because there are no bailout areas. #1 is the hardest hole on the front nine, #2 has water on both sides of the fairway and in front of the green, and #3 is a par 3 with water in front and jungle in back. That is a tough start for good players, much less a duffer like me. Fortunately, length is not an issue on most holes. The course conditions were very good and the rates reasonable. The golf course GPS works well and is needed since most of us are visitors and have no opportunity to get to know the course. I didnt try any of the course food services. Bring a couple of water containers with you because water availability is limited. There isnt much for on-course bathrooms either.

The reviews of this course are misleading. Its a mediocre layout and not in very good shape. The fairways are sketchy. The greens are okay for the most part, but extremely slow. Great course, definitely one of my favorites! AWESOME customer service especially! After a long wait on the course they helped us out. Ive played this golf course many times and I obviously like it. That attitude is starting to change. I ranked the course as excellent, but the service as poor. The last 2 times Ive been out on a Sunday afternoon and it is so slow that it is hard to believe. When it gets that slow, people get anxious and start hitting into you from behind. It took over 90 minutes to finish the 4 hole, 16 holes in 4.5hrs and it got dark. When it gets that slow it is not enjoyable for me and I will play elsewhere or not at all. What really irks me is that the guy in the pro-shop always replies with its not too bad when asked if it is crowded on the course. Not too bad? Really? What is too bad then? Well, it is too bad that this beautiful course is mismanaged. I would gladly pay more if this course was better managed.

Playing on a Monday took 5 hours. I thought we were playing on the weekend, it was that slow. The people who run the course have it backwards, and should start at #10 and not #1. The course immediately backs up after the first hole because of water on the second and third holes which a lot of people hit into so they have to take two shots on #2 before getting out of the way.The pin placements on Monday were absurd. If you happened to be above a hole, you could not two put. It was an automatic three putt. I find the greens there to be average, but tricky and difficult to putt. Some of the holes are strangely designed. Number 2 is a pain because one can never have enough club to get over the water. I dont like the course and I dont plan on going back unless I pay 25 dollars or less to play it.
