It was a great experience to be there cuz Ive never been there
If you are a Mark Twain fan this is a magnetic destination for you. Gifted by his sister in law, a member of a prominent Elmira family it was originally built at Quarry Farm on nearby Jerusalem Hill where he spent. A good many summers with his wife, Olivia nee Langdon and his children. Twain, Samuel Clemens wrote many of his most famous books in this study, which through the windows encircling it offered beautiful views of the Queen City located in the picturesque valley below, the Chemung River splitting the city into two halves. The Study now sits in a peaceful setting on the campus of Elmira College where a Center For Mark Twain studies exists. Constructed in the shape of a Mississippi Riverboats Pilots Cabin one can see why Twain loved his trips to Elmira where he was at ease to write his best stories.
Well maintained cabin that takes you back to the world of Tom Sawyer!
Loved it. Would recommend the study anytime. The pond was gorgeous as the backdrop to Mark Twains study. Located on the grounds of Elmira college. Check out the statutes of Mark Twain and his wife Clara.
It was easy to locate, well marked, lovely cemetery. We had been to Hannibal, Missouri, Twains birthplace and wanted to visit Elmira after reading how much time he spent there
Great for inspiring writers like me.
A great place very informative as well about the work he wrote.
A great stop on the beautiful campus of Elmira College
Let me save you the a trip off the highway. Its literally this tiny cabin in the middle of a gorgeous campus. Thats it. If you do make the stop you must drive five minutes down the road and see his gravesite to make the trip feel worthwhile
Elmira College is so pretty. We enjoyed walking a little of the campus. The studys setting was so peaceful and quiet. A reflective place with a sense of the time he lived in. I think its a place that people who enjoy his writing would like to see.
Elmira College does a great job in preserving all things Mark Twain. Visitors are welcomed to their holdings. We arrived before the traditional summer tourist season.Amazed to see the dwelling where Samuel Clemmons created his later works. Found central to the campus.
Closed until May, but you could still see inside thought the window. Beautiful!
It was my first visit to the tiny museum. It was fun to see what literary works were penned in that room.
This was a nice historic place to visit.
Great place at Elmira College, Elmira, NY for Mark Twain history..his writing studio and in the college also room of memorabilia about him and his family and his books for sale.
A little gem of architectural history. So glad I discovered this, and set beautify on the Elmira College campus.
Very small, but very helpful guide. Dont miss the exhibit in Cowles Hall.
Awesome piece of history I didnt even know was there
There isnt much to see here. Its a very simple small room. Its not open often, but you can see everything from the window in the front so it doesnt change much.
Facinating little building. The docent that was on duty was great answering our questions
Great place to view history
I wonder if the furniture inside is original.
Office goals.
Very insightful n historically wonderful!
A well preserved piece of history of a man who influenced the world. Ive seen it occasionally open to public where one can actually step inside.
