Steep walk with some climbing (crawling on hands) at end. Beautiful views a third the way up and at peak. Our legs were trembling after completing this hike.

Trails need better markings, kind of like almost every place near El Paso. Parking area is closed, no word on why or when it will be open again.

Love this trail, always a great time. I understand that it is considered difficult but I led a group with two beginners who made it all the way. Theres enough places to stop for a breather and the other hikers are always very friendly. The whole scenery going up is gorgeous but at the top is truly a sight to see.

It’s a great place to hike. We come ever Labor Day to hike and this Labor Day 2020 it’s closed!!!! So sad :/ Now my husband and I have to find another place to hike

Great hike for children and middle ages. If you have trouble with your knees though, you might want to brace them. Used to hike much more and I remembered how beautiful it was, however the rock itself needs serious attention. There is now more graffiti on the mammoth than in some ghettos. People just dont take care of parks anymore. There is spray paint graffiti up there, as in someone went up there with the intent of destroying it. The trails have fallen into minor disrepair.

Just above one literal mile above sea level, the air is just a little crisper on this rock, absolutely beautiful!

Great view!! Loved this hike. Trails are overlapping and can be hard to follow, so keep aware of where you are in case you need to improvise your path. Unfortunately a few spots of graffiti and trash, but mostly clean thanks to the park rangers. Be sure to pay your $5 at the self service payment booth at the start of the trail.Does get pretty tricky at times, requiring slow climbing on all fours, bordering on all out rock climbing. I found it harder than North Mount Franklins peak, which is actually a little higher than the southern peak.

Hiked up Franklin Mountain Range, Ron Coleman Trail from the base up the draw to Mammoth Rock. It took just under an hour to make the 1.75 mile trek up. You will be on all fours at some point so not for the beginner homer. Your reward at the top is a cool cave that the locals visit to stimulate their minds and leave tokens of their love for another.

It’s not a short hike but definitely not the hardest. There are several smaller trails that will lead up to mammoth rock depending on the level of difficulty you want. You can get a glimpse of both sides of the city once you’re up there

Difficult hike up to the top. At some places the trail is not in very good condition. The views from the top are superb. Make sure you have good shoes and plenty of water.

First time here and it was worth the trip. Im not in the best of shape and found it challenging but doable on the cardio side. About a 1/2 mile in the trail splits and its not well marked, despite the appearance the trail to the right is the preferred route. The trail zig zags up a fairly steep red dirt trail to the top of the spur, and then the trail follows the top of the spur for most of the rest of the way. I would not recommend bringing young children, but some people did. Make sure you have some cash and a pen to fill out the form you leave in your vehicle, the park ranger was there writing tickets as I was leaving.

The earlier you start the hike the better! It took me 2 hours roundtrip with no breaks. There are several cool caves you can rest in away from the sun on the way up. Bring sunscreen and plenty of water.

It is not for the faint of the heart but it is doable I did it and Im a novice hiker with a fear of heights....the view is impeccable my Gosh it is breathtaking wear comfortable shoes and good spiky shoes because certain areas are slippery. A little bit hard but it is worth it.

Beautiful scenery! There are a couple different ways to get up to the Mammoth. Going straight up is a little steeper and more strenuous or you can go along the ridge to the right of the Mammoth. Once you get up there you can see all the way to Mexico!
