A beautiful natural wonder. Miles of vast land and then this garden offers the perfect temperature, and location for these cactus to grow. Please be respectful and stay on the trails.Look but dont touch.Be mindful of your footwear. No flip flops or thin shoes. There are thorns everywhere! This is not a place to let your pets or kids, or for that matter anyone to run around. The throns/splinters are no joke.
Lovely views of the cactuses but it is not guarded as it should be. People are free to get up close and risk getting pricked by this cactus whose needles can fly around with the wind. If you get pricked, theres no first aid or help available so steer clear of these! Recommend going here during sunset to get the best photos.
The view of the landscape is magical. Make sure to get plenty of photos but be very careful while going close to these cactuses. I saw someone get a whole big chunk of cactus needles stuck in the hand. Always maintain your distance.
Easy, flat, wonderful plants and animals, but you have to watch your step. Far safer than in years past, there is now a well marked and wide trail so you will have no difficulty exploring the garden.
This place is beautiful even though almost everything looked dead. I imagine the winter and spring everything looks greener.
Loved Joshua national park. CAMPING available, lots of hiking, beautiful desert flowers, and rock formations, rangers and information headquarters super friendly and helpful!
Great sunset spot. Plan to arrive early enough..sun sets over a mtn peak so a bit earlier than actual sunset
Cool as all hecks, go when the light is low they glow bro craazzaayy
Must see when you visit Joshua Tree National Park. Short loop hike around the garden. Super easy and not strenuous at all. We started our day there and backtracked our way back to our campsite visiting other hiking spots. Marked path will keep you away from the prickly cholla trees. Stay on designated path.
You may think, oh just a bunch of dense cacti, but the cactus garden is pretty amazing and the placed its perched at offers some amazing views of the surrounding valleys.
Beautiful garden with a little wrapped path that one can explore. Crowded to park at later in the morning, but stopping is a must!
Sticky situation. Keep your elbows tucked in and wear sturdy shoes. No flip-flops!
If you are driving through Joshua Tree National Park put this roadside stop into your itinerary.Just amazing the teddy bear cacti as far as you can see on both sides of the road, all part of the natural beauty of the desert.
This place is magical at sunset (or presumably at sunrise). Go then, take a thousand selfies and tell people you were underwater and theyll probably believe you.
A must stop on the way through the park. These small cacti are beautiful and other-worldly looking. This is a nice place to stop and stretch your legs as well.
Love love love Joshua Tree National Park and this is my favorite spot. Some nice soul added a first aid kit recently with tweezers and band aids. How nice!
Worth the short hike to see some really strange cactus, all clustered in a small area. Stay on the trail - you don’t want to fall into one of these
If you are searching for any value to this Choy-ya cactus, then just ask someone with a camera there to delete their pictures... This is seriously one of the most scenic and aesthetically pleasing landscapes Joshua Tree has to offer.
Super cool cactuses! Please stay on the trail. You can be right next to the plants and still be on the trail.
Best in Joshia tree NP
Very cool place! The cactuses look so neat but you really should not touch them since their thorns are very sharp and thick. A must visit spot at Joshua Tree National Park!
Easy walk through a cacti garden. The area is fun to check out and quick but avoid bringing kids and pets as those are quite dangerous.
Amazing stop within Joshua Tree. Most people dont know about it or dont make it all the way there because its towards the end of the park. Its worth getting there, a must during sunset for sure.
Really cool. Careful though, Cactus are extremely sharp. Almost like needles
Gorgeous! This is part of Joshua Tree National Park. These cacti are deceptively tall! Unfortunately, too many visitors totally disregard the guidelines and go off the marked path. Instead they have to trample through the middle of these cacti, ignorant to the destruction and damage they are causing. Please stop, so coming generations have a chance to see this as well!
Great spot to see all the Joshua Trees, amazing views of the valley floor too
If your in the south side of Joshua tree this is a must stop little trail. It’s unlike anything else you will see in the park.
This place is so cool!!
Is a shame to live in southern California and not visit this national park
Very beatiful cholla cactus..
This place is amazing! So many cholla cactus!!! Definitely a must see! I heard it is a good spot for stargazing too.
Cool area with great photo ops.
We were expecting different kind of cacti (it was a “garden” after all) but as nature has it, only one kind took over the ecosystem.ps there is a first aid kit at one of the entrances of the trail in case you get pricked. we saw one family using it for a crying kid.
A nice place to watch the sunset.
Amazing. Only one kind of cactus but hitting this area with the sun heading down after starting at the west entrance was well worth the stop. Even if you just have a day I recommend driving the whole park.
Nice place to walk through thousands of Chollas that will stick to you, as soon as you touch them. Roads are well labelled with stories and many useful information of this cactus.
Warning: Don’t touch the needles — they’re poisonous, and extremely sharp.
Dont touch the Cholla! The backdrop of the desert landscape is hard to beat. This huge Cholla garden sits at the bottom of a flood plane. Come here after a rain event and the Cholla will be puckered up.
A garden with many cactus. about 25 min. from the main road. its worth seeing if youre in the area. a new landscape.
Hide yo kids, hide yo dogs....no kidding. There are a lot of tears at this garden when kids think its fun to touch the cacti. Also dont bring your dogs out here, their feet will not stand a chance against the barbs. Our group tried playing hot potato and it didnt work out well.
Fun place to visit, even in the hot summer heat! Pack your cooler before you leave Palm Springs and you will be fine. Very cool cacti and vegetation that withstands the dry desert temps. Stay off the grounds outside the walkway in that area due to contamination (mining history?) Cool place to check out & support our parks!
Interesting Chola cactus exhibit with hundreds of specimens.
Nice stroll through the cholla!
Fun little cacti trail
So you come to Joshua Tree National Park, you see Joshua trees (cool!), you see the rock formations, you see water at Barker Dam, and you think “ok, that’s it, now the rest is going to be variations of the same thing”. Wrong. National parks are huge and have so much more to offer. The Cacti Garden is a great example. It’s so different from the rest of the park, and so amazing - that it can’t be missed. You see cacti miles and miles away, it’s a huge field of them (not a “garden”).The hike is very short, it’s just a walk near the parking lot among the cacti.Be very careful when stepping off the trail to take pictures. The big cacti are obvious danger, but there is also a subtle one. There are small ball-like cacti on the ground. If you touch them with your shoe, it will bite you through it.One girl in our group accidentally did that. I think everybody on the trail became extra careful after that - she was screaming very loud when I was pulling the spikes off her toe. She was fine after. So be careful, these cacti are dangerous. But it’s a must see.
Beautiful little roadside park area in Joshua Tree National Park - and its aptly named. There is a sea of Cholla cactus here. Nice gravelled walk with some wooden bridges over certain areas. Dont go off the path, at your own peril. The spines of this cactus are very sharp, and let me tell you, there are many, many spines in this area.
We visited on early July 2018. It was a long drive from the north entrance. Cholla Cactus Garden is beautiful but hazardous. Cholla Cactus has sharp needles. The parking is adequate. We walked around the garden about 30 minutes.
So many of these awesome looking cacti
Absolutely gorgeous cactus Garden! There is a trail where you can walk between cactus plants be careful and do not touch any of the cactus plants!
Beauty in bloom
Beautiful place with cactus in a small round-trip walk (20 mins)
The only advice I have is not to go on a windy day
Beautiful spot. DO NOT touch the cactus. It hurts. I made the mistake thinking it was nothing. Never again!
Interesting place to visit. Quick stop on your way through Joshua Tree.
This 0.3 miles trail is well marked and there is a reason to stay on trail. Got too close to the cholla cactus and ended up having 100s of souvenirs hanging inside my 3 layers. Took lot of efforts to pull them out.The area is very beautiful with cholla cactus bloomed as far as you can see.
Very interesting and strangely beautiful
So cool! Ive never seen these so dense
Really cool to see so many cacti in one place. Visit during the sunset for then the cacti cast long shadows
Perfect short trail. Clean, view was amazing with cholla cactus.
These trees are so cuteee
Beautiful to look at - but dont touch. Even a light brush by will cause the cactus to shed an arm and cling tight to your skin or clothes. Didnt look too easy to remove either. Ouch.
A really nice view of the comet, stars and some animals.
Stunning view down to the valley
Amazing garden of endless cholla cactus. Beautiful. Watch out... do not brush against them or even try to touch them. They will stick to your skin and clothing, and they hurt!
We made it just in time before the sun set. Great for a quick stop and walk through the cacti. I think we made it at the perfect time of day.
Such a fun!
This place is enchanting and desolate. Like few other places in California.
The garden is about 15 minutes from the south entrance. Plenty of parking.Theres a dirt path that is very easy to walk. I recommend going late afternoon for the warm light.Bring food and water. No restroom.
Nice little loop through the cholla cacti. Not super interesting, just a bunch of cacti. Worth stopping at.
Great little place to visit in Joshua tree. Crazy how it just appears along the drive. Watch out for the caterpillar crossing the path.
About 30min north from the south entrance of JTNP off I-10. It’s a easy flat 20min loop tail. You walked among the spiny cholla cactus which are only found at this area of the park. Dog int allowed on this trial. Parking might be difficult during busy days. Best to avoid noon sunligt when visisting’
A lot of cactus! Definitely worth a visit.
Worth a quick stop if you are in the park.
Its beautiful and worth a stop but people, please stay on the trail. I saw 4 different people stuck with cactus needles and unable to remove them in a fairly short period of time. Hold hands with the little ones.
One word: BEAUTIFUL!
One note and a bit far from the other things to do in the area, but wow, very different from anything else you will see. So strange to be surrounded by human-sized cacti with projectile spines. (Okay, so they wont throw their spikes at you, but they will glow with an otherworldly light and tempt you to touch them, then make you regret your lifes choices, as you should. Who touches a cactus? Seriously.)
Its wonderful to walk among these cactus.
Beautiful garden with amazing cactuses
Not too many visitors stop here.Which keep it relatively virgin.A great pearl of the park.
One of the spots the Eagles band members cemented their status as a group, esp with their naming of the band happened here. The bands first album pictures were made here with the group on an inspiration trip with the help of tequila and peyote buttons
Ive never seen anything like it.
It was okay- nothing that exciting. Might have been better in a different season and/or when the cacti were blooming.
If you can make it out toward the Cottonwood entrance of the park, you will come across this little gem in the Colorado desert part. Nice little walking path amongst the cacti. Be careful of needles and bees
Beautiful place!! Definitely visit.
Pretty awesome view. But those little cactus balls arent fun. Avoid them!
Inside Joshua Tree National Park driving north to south these strange cactus appear out of the desert like a strange dream. Truly these species of cacti do not seem to fit into the surrounding biome. Get out of the car and walk around and see for yourself. Worth the drive.
Very cool stop....
Do not touch the cactus! There was a small piece in the middle of the short trail, and I tried kicking it to the side, and that was dumb. I should have let it be. It stuck into the rubber of my shoe. It was more of a sweeping nudge than a kick. I didnt dare touch it with my hands. There are signs telling you not to touch the cactus, and if my memory serves me correctly, it may be poisonous. I got the cactus of my shoe carefully.
Great trail, short and easy. There are no toilets so use them before you visit. The trail is nice, great for pictures. Please stay on the trail and dont break the cacti, there were lots that had signs of human damage. Be sure to carry out all trash that you may produce as plastic and nature dont get along.
A real interesting trail through some pretty sticky cacti. Be careful not to rub up against one, and No Pets allowed. A short but very interesting trail.
Beautiful views from this place. Walk among the Cholla Cacti, just remember not to touch these guys. Went during sunset and got some great shots of these interesting plants.
Nice array of Cholla cactus. Can get hot in the afternoon. And beware of the bees in the parking lot!
What an otherworldly place! I could not believe the sight we had after jumping out the car. It seems that we were underwater in a gradient coloured coral field... that stings! Take a closer look at the inside of a stem if you can, the structure is mesmerizing! There are not that many informative panels on-site and the flyers box was empty. Luckily we were able to learn a bit more about these cacti at the visitor center afterwards.
