Great Theater, enjoy the art movies and off beat movies that play here. Make sure you get some popcorn.Miss this place and the movie experience.
I used to like the unique and hard to find movies this theater offered, despite the older chairs and plain decor. However, lately, its impossible to find a movie that is not rated R or pushing a shock liberal agenda. I no longer use this theater.
Seems to house more indie films, but that isnt really the vibe you get walking in. Its a bit older, going off the seating and the entryway, but its fine. Bathrooms only on second floor, so that is a little unfortunate. Overall its a good place to watch a movie, wouldnt necessarily be my first choice if its available elsewhere.I saw Parasite here, however, and this was the only theater I could find playing it. That alone gets major kudos from me. Loved the film, would recommend.
When my husband was wooing me in the early nineties, the Edina Theater is one of the places he took me. The art deco decor and indie and foreign film program utterly charmed me. Like us, its somewhat the worse for wear. Dont think the pretty carpet could be replaced--look in corners to see what it looked like originally. Maybe a deep clean would bring back the jewel tones? And who wants to pay the big bucks for reserved seats in the empty multiplex theaters? Give me the Edina and the Lagoon theaters any day. Im just getting used to the expensive remodel at the Uptown and dont need the drinks. Stay the way you are Edina. We see almost everything you show and plan to keep right on doing it as long as the price is right, the popcorn and cookies are great and your friendly staff is there to keep us cozy.
The high prices with somewhat shabby decor are the cost of keeping a very good independent movie theater alive in a neighborhood where the property is in very high demand for luxury condos. Better enjoy this theater now, while you can, before developers buy out the lease and turn it into additional high-end dwellings for affluent Edina retirees. This, along with the other Landmark theaters in Uptown, are the only real option if you want to see interesting foreign, independent and documentary films that multi-plex theaters wont touch. Yes, seats are old and uncomfortable, but popcorn is great and you really cannot beat the movies this theater brings in.
Edina Cinema is an iconic neighborhood theater. It has the best independent films at a great location with free parking in a safe neighborhood. It also happens to have the best popcorn in town! Im happy that its kept its class by not serving liquor. Its a movie theater, not a bar. Walk one block in any direction to a variety of restaurants serving good food and libations that can be enjoyed before or after a show. Some of the seats have seen better days but Ill take this theater experience over the lounge chairs and multiplex monstrosities every time.
Classic cinema experience in a local theater that features foreign films, indie films, and mainstream films. This is a worthy location for locals to support regularly. Well be back for certain.
I love the selection of films this theater has and the location is great. My one recommendation is to update or repair the seating. Many seats have tears across the fabric and I had an armrest fall off just by brushing by it. Comfortable, clean seats are one of the most important aspects of a good theater experience.
I love this theater, Ive been going here for 20 years+. It could use a bit of a remodel... the staff is great!
This is a great place. Full of interesting history. Loved the movie. Staff was so friendly.
The place needs a major renovation. Bought my tickets online, and it clearly said to walk right up to the ticket taker. As I bypassed the line of people purchasing tickets, the lady in the booth yelled at me like I was a criminal. I had to stand in line behind all the people who were purchasing tickets to show my phone. Beyond that, the place is just rundown. Its not old and quaint, its just old and dumpy. Will not return.
The sign alone is worth 4 stars. Love old theaters. Seats have been well sat in, could use a make over but, Great corn and nice people!
All the critically acclaimed file you want, not a bad ticket price, comfy seats
Could use updates and new seating, but I appreciate that this theater carries movies you cant find elsewhere.
Time to remodel! And PLEASE dont ever go away. Consistently the best movies in town.
Love this theatre. Hope it never goes away. Good independent films. Places near to stop for a drink after a movie or appetizers.
Great place to see a limited release movie but they really need to update their seats.
Love the kitschiness and ambience. What are my favorite places to see a movie.
Watch out seniors. Old theater and you pay for tickets at the concession stand. They dont ask if you are a senior. They run the total for tickets and concessions all together. We were over charged 6 dollars. Not happy.
The place to find first run Indy and foreign films. Free parking in a ramp 100 ft or so to the north. A little run down, as are most cinema theaters these days.
Numerous seats have nasty stains. The lobby and theaters could use better lighting and a current paint color. I would be hesitant to bring my mother or grandchild to this venue. Such an upscale neighbor Hood, thought there would of been some pride for a Landmark. Youve asked me to edit my review? So I will edict. Get a liquor license sell the booze put a nice decent healthy food in there in addition to your upgrade of seats and atmospheric conditions, and then maybe youll have something that warrants saying come spend time here in my venue.
Great service, decent prices and still a nice theatre after all these years. Plus tons of great seating.
The theater is fantastic and very charming. Staff and service are wonderful.
Older theatre that could use some TLC however, they show a GREAT line-up on quality, thought-provoking, independent films that are so worth the time to go see!
The movie was good. The popcorn was expensive, small bag $6.25, seats are old and uncomfortable.
Edina always has the best movies that arent being shown in the other theaters. I could go to almost any movie there without knowing anything about it and really enjoy it. The popcorn is amazing and they have real butter for an extra charge. They also serve Peace Coffee, good quality chocolate bars, and they have cold bottles of Honest Tea. There is free public parking in the ramp behind the theater on 51st.
If youre looking for the independent films, documentaries, and limited run/distribution movies-- this is your theater! The popcorn makes up for the ripped/judgemental seats.
Interesting foreign and indie films. Free parking. Lots of restaurants nearby.
Love this theater. Quirky decor, friendly staff and quality movies make it a great choice for a date night. Plus, the area around it has many fun shops and restaurants.
What good is buying a ticket online if you still have to wait in line when you get there?
Classic seats and movies worth seeing.
It was a mid-week visit for an evening show. Pretty quiet! I loved it. Film was pretty good!
Went all the way there in the snow, to see the only night time show for Mary Queen of Scots. Found out it was cancelled. There was no notice posted saying the heat was not working. I was not the only one who showed up. I didnt find out until I tried to buy a ticket. I will wait for it to come out on DVD.
One of my favorite theaters to go to in the entire Twin Cities area.
I love older classic cinemas compared to the megaplexes.
The go to place in the Twin Cities for foreign and independent film with 4 theatres.
Movie was 5 stars. Seats in the theater need to be replaced, very uncomfortable.
I have loved this theatre, and its immediate surrounding area (restaurants and establishments), far before moving nearby. The theatre supports (and almost entirely shows) independent film, which really adds to the exceptional buzz of arts, culture, and community in the area (film you cant see anywhere else). The historic facility inside and out could use some updates, but if you are looking for an independent film theatre and/or romantic date, those things are not that important to the overall experience. Bravo Edina!
Great popcorn, top notch films. No marvel comic movies here, thank goodness. Now, please improve the seating!
OMG I was going to See the movie Maiden 230p on a Saturday $10.50Uhmmm for that Price I will wait for Netflix Extremely disappointed
Shabby, crowded seats, but nice service
Love having art films in my community.
Employees polite & knowledable. Auditoriums clean & sound good. Popcorn delicious. 1st time here & would definitely go again.
Good to great films, mostly indie and foreign. Popcorn has very little salt, perfect. Seats are pretty good but could be upgraded. Good sized theaters and screens. Sound is good, not great. Great staff, great atmosphere.
I have fond memories of the Edina Cinema from childhood, and it continues to offer excellent programming in a classic venue. Housed on a lovely little street, you wont find the latest trappings of modern movie theaters here, but you will find hidden gems.
Great theatre and love the renovation for seating. Matinees are easy to find nearby parking. Awesome location for pre/post grabbing a bite to eat.
Love this place. LOVE IT! I see movies here at least once a month. Sound isnt as fancy as a multiplex but the seats are great, the popcorn is great and the staff is super friendly.
Recently saw a film in the Edina cinema in theater #3 and the projector was terrible. Thousands of red pixels against white images and there were two dead green pixels against dark images. It was a big distraction for what was a beautiful foreign film. When I pay top dollar for a current film I expect the projection to be of high quality. It wasnt.
Love this little art-house cinema. Foreign films, Oscar-bait and small Indy flicks. Plus its the only theater in the TC that has nutritional yeast.
They show excellent movies that you may not find at other theaters. Still have the old style seating though.
Quiet but staff was fantastic.
Good movie selection.
Great place for independent movies.
LOVE IT!GREAT FOREIGN FILMS. FRIENDLY & EFFICIENT STAFF. WE GO THERE FREQUENTLY.
This is what history smells like, looks like, feels like. You have to go at least once!
Everything about this place is old and awesome!! Older customer base, older building, traditional seating (dont expect any leather recliners). Plus, there are movies here you will not find everywhere else. A charming experience not to be missed.
I pretty much only watch indy and foreign films and this is my favorite theater for watching them. Love the old charm of the theater and Im pleased they havent remodeled, Im not able nor want to sit in a newly remodeled theater that is off-gassing PVC, and formaldehydes. If they remodel that will be my last theater day.
I hope, one day, that I can own a movie theater as charming and cozy and affordable as this one
Great venue. Great moves, great location. Plenty good experience. - go catch an early show.
By todays standards this is an old school movie theater. But that doesnt stop them from charging premium prices. Paid $10 for a matinee here in Oct 2018. Nothing special about this place. They have lots of stairs to climb.
The theater is in rough shape in terms of seating (old 1980s style seats), concessions (prices are way out of line....medium Coke and a medium popcorn ran me $12.50 while the ticket was only $10), restrooms are dingy with stalls and urinals that are out of service, carpeting is worn out, etc... That said, it is the closest and smallest theater to where I live for going to see foreign and Independent studio films which will never be shown at AMC, Carmike, Marcus, Regal, etc... The staff is pleasant and efficient and the ramp that is situated right behind the theater is free and so handy for access but there are peak times where it can be nearly impossible to find a space anywhere on the 5 levels of the ramp. Landmarks other two theaters, Uptown and Lagoon are both in better shape with modern amenities, but it can be far more difficult to navigate the Lyn-Lake traffic and the nearby lots and ramps are not free. I stopped going to either location because of the hassles associated with making it a night out with friends. I really wish Landmark would spend some decent money in remodeling and updating the Edina location as it surely needs it and would be welcomed by repeat theater goers.
Old style neighborhood theater with great selection of independent films.
One of my favorite theaters
Love this old, nostalgic theatre. Great popcorn, nice employees. Seats arent as comfortable as the newer places but the theatre shows good, independent films.
Wonderful quaint movie theater showing great indie films!
Best popcorn in Minnesota. Good movies too haha!
Great place for independent films, but the searing is dated, and there is significant sound bleed between auditoriums.
Love the movie selection, love the location but pleasefix the place up. I feel like I have to shower after every visit.
Ive been coming to this theater for years. Its always been of my favorites in Minneapolis. That changed today. No ticket sales at the box office, on a Saturday. Had to go through the concession line, which I was not buying, to get a ticket. So I get to wait while everyone gets their popcorn and lattes. Not cool.
Very nice old theater. Lot of different movies that you dont see in regular theater.
This art-house theater isnt fancy, especially compared to the rest of the businesseses at 50th & France, but it does a terrific job bringing foreign and smaller films to the Western metro.
Basic theater, looks old style. Can have better seating, even if not recliners.
This movie theater has a delightful mix of mainstream and offbeat offerings. Conveniently located near 50th and France, there is ample parking and the area has a wide variety of eating establishments to complete the quintessential dinner and a movie.
This theater has character and style - if youre looking for a small gem of a theater and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere for movie-going, then Landmark Edina will not disappoint.
Great parking available at no cost. All rhe latest movies. Great food.
Nice movie theater with more unusual movie fare than the chain theaters. Drove 18+ miles to get here, worth the drive
Cool Old School theater. Love the neighborhood too.
They have movies that are not out in the bigBox theaters. The seats are old and the theaters have terrible temperature control. Prices are high for the comforts you don’t get.
Old seats and old people that will not shut up. the theatre is quite run down at this point. rips in the screens, dingy gross carpet, the concession stand looks like it hasnt had a proper cleaning since the 90s. its a shame theyve let one of the only indie movie-houses in town go to pot like this. the popcorn is good, but again the concession stand looks disgusting. also one thing that happens 3 out of 5 times I see a movie here is there are many people in the audience who chatter throughout the film. Its really uncanny how often this happens. More often then not its a group of people in their late 50s to 60s and older. I dont even understand why most of them are seeing these weird indie pictures. Seriously most of them gasp in horror at whatever Todd Solondz or Michael Haneke film is screening. Is it just the neighborhood theatre for them? I really dont know, but it would make sense that the retirees of Edina would feel that much entitlement they could just babble as if they were in their own living rooms.
This place is a terrible theater in desperate need of refurbishment. They have the same seats they had 20 years ago (see photo below taken today). Landmark has done a horrible job running this theater. Long lines to see great movies that arent available anywhere else. What a mess!
This theater needs a little sprucing up.... That said, they show movies few other theaters do.
The theater needs new everything, but we still go due to the wonderful movies they show.
First run movie house. Old style, yet comfortable seating.
Excellent movies. Nothing fancy inside but has become one of my favorite theaters ever.
Like how the theater has been renovated
Good theater to catch an indie flick
Paid at concession counter. Had to wait while other customers bought food. I did not buy food.
Old charm but the Theatre is ran down and seats are uncomfortable. Could do a better job with cleaning too.
Nice spot for indie movies
Great memories, classic place, unique movie selection.
Great indie theatre, fabulous popcorn and Diet Coke.
The kids dont fit their cups and so my drink spilled in my lap! Staff COMPLETELY unhelpful.
Great place with great restaurant options near by
Fun theatre! Owned by Landmark. Lots of Independent and Foreign Films.
Nice theatre very cozy !
Great independent films. Unfortunately no senior discount.
Great atmosphere. Great movie selection (if you love indie). Check it out!
Edina Cinemas esthetic is terribly outdated and not in a charming nostalgic way. For me it wasnt an enjoyable experience.
