This place is closed until further notice due to COVID-19. I cant really rate a place I have not visited. However, I give this review because the management here have failed to update their presence on the Maps app, causing me to drive out of my way to visit a place that isnt open.I tried many times to update the hours of operation for this place but Google Maps refuses to do it because they cant verify my suggested edit.
If you love american history you will like this site
Would have given 5 stars but they were closed
Search an amazing place with incredible history.
Closed maybe for COVID as of 7/25/2020. I wish they would update google and the hours. I can’t wait to try to go back.
Its historical laid back and a good place to kill time 4/1/2020 they are having a special event out there
Lot of history here. Nobody else there but us and the Ranger and he was very generous with his time and givingn us a lot of history and information about the place. He even let us stay longer after it was closing time. Gave us water for dogs and was a really nice man. Well worth the drive to check it out.
Local team was very knowledgeable and provided a tour which was very helpful to understand the history of the Chickasaw Indians.
Awesome place to take the family. Picnic or grill, and tour the old fort. Free admission. Be sure to check out the old truss bridge just down the hill on state 199
Had a great time will my boys. Person in gift shop very nice and helpful.
Said it was open for Saturday but when we arrived it was closed.
It was a great place to visit but the police didnt believe that I was harassed by a ghost
Experience was fun for the kids, parking was easy, bathrooms are port-a-johns, vendors and others running the camp were friendly.
Nice place. The 1800s reenactment was pretty fun. Some really cool stuff. Not as authentic as I thought it would be, but looking for a great time outdoors with the whole family and do some knives throwing or basket making or weaving and a bunch of other stuff, then you should check it out.
It was wonderful experiencing a piece of history. Its definitely worth checking for current events any time youre in the area.
Friendly people on site and informative about Oklahoma history as well as local.
The gentleman who spoke to us about the fort was knowledgeable and helpful. The park was very well maintained. We will be back and hopefully the South Barracks will be restored by then.
The historical site was amazing. It really gave you a sense of the time that has passed and lives that passed through.I didnt give it a 5th star because the guy making hot dogs kept touching them unnecessarily.
Ive been going to Fort Washita since I was in H.S. This site is so full of information and interesting historical artifacts. There is definitely a lot of walking but if you visit during a time when there arent any events you can have the entire place to yourself. If you ask the staff theyll unlock the cabin and let you walk inside. Its a great place to take a day trip. Youll want to fill up your gas tank before you go as there arent any gas stations close. The bathrooms on site are clean. The ruins are beautiful and fun to walk through. My boys love going to Fort Washita. The Rendezvous Days are especially fun.
Enjoyed their ww2 reinactment the gift shop nice their knowledge was what I liked the most.
Have been here a few times now and love the public displays they put on. Not always well advertised but well worth watching.
A lot of history there. Its easy to imagine the peoples of that time carrying on with their daily lives. The idea of it being haunted adds to the whole experience. Ill be back.
One of the best and most well preserved of the Oklahoma Forts. Lots to walk around and see. Enjoyed every inch of this place.
The place was fascinating. My great great great grandfather served there. It was really rough conditions. I dont know how anybody survived then.Great piece of history.
Very beautiful could use some cleaning up
It was very neat. Its was my first trip. Lots of history.
Awesome place to visit! Great people!
Great place to visit. I always like to see historical places and buildings that have been redone, refurbished, or kept up. To me the old buildings are the best part, specially when you can walk. Through and around them.
This historical site was once the most western fort operated by the U.S. Government. It provided protection for both the Chickasaw and Choctaw tribes during the early days before Oklahoma was a State.
Great day trip from Tulsa. Its free, its history, and easy to explore with young kids.
Little known place. So much history so close to home! Wandered around for a couple of hours but still more to see.
Wish it hadnt burned down.
Historically important part of Americas frontier and civil war era......very beautiful also @
Absolutely LOVED it. Staff is so informative and nice. The grounds are beautiful from the landscape to the buildings. It is so serene and peaceful there. Will definitely go back.
I love being able to go to historical sites and this was an amazing place to walk around and just contemplate the history
There is a small informative museum and outside ruins. The property belongs to the Chickasaw Indians, and they have the money to rebuild the bunk house in the next year.
Cool place to walk around!
Really enjoyed it. Was fascinating checking out the history of this place
Went on the Chickasaw Hidden Gem bus tour it was amazing. Just wish we would had more time to have spent here.
The chicksaw Indians keep this park beautiful. They have been donated enough money to rebuild the barracks.
Love visiting this place. Have been going here for over 20 years. Never a disappointment! Take money, so you can enjoy the food, drinks, and rock candy. Youll regret it if you dont!!
Always have a great time!! Good root beer and kettle corn!! Love to walk around!!
We went to the haunted ghost tour of the place. It was cold, rainy, and windy and still had a great time. Ive been there before, but its been a while. It was fun going through it at night, but you cant see the true historic aspects of the place. We plan on going back during the day and walk around and see it again. Every one of the volunteers were well educated about the layout and history and were in period correct costumes. There is a gift shop and little museum there. The only standing barracks were burned a few years ago, but there are plans to rebuild it.
Nice place, lots to things to read and places to explore. Spent about 1.5 hours.
Great place to visit I have a lot of childhood memories there.
Oklahoma history few people even know about. Ghost tours are fun.
Never really liked this place just had to go because of mothers day.
Awesome history very friendly staff.
Loved touring here, it was so neat to learn about this historic site!
Whether it be for an event or just on our own accord, Fort Washita never disappoints. Our family enjoys going because we always seem to learn something
A beautiful place, well taken care of. See an original Frontier Fort location with some original building foundations, the California Gold Trail, the Fort cemetery with original head stones, and a Confederate cemetery with 200 unmarked graves.
Veru nice place with good camp ground.
Very interesting history. Getting to explore some of the ruins and enjoying the landscape were my favorite things. They had a group of living history soldiers from texas that day and were doing demonstrations and taking pictures. We went after a rainy day so it was a little muddy, most of the pathways are original
We go here for their special events. Great place to take the family.
Ive been going to Fort Washita since I was a little kid you should definitely try and catch the spring rendezvous in March great place to grab some Pioneer souvenirs. You can find professionally tan hides even some awesome homemade root beer.Incredible variety of handcrafted leather and beaded materials as well want to learn how to shoot a musket this is the place to go want to see Confederate gravesites and pre Civil War structures they got it. Theres all kinds of great activities related to the time period of the original Fort Washita that are scheduled there but even on a day when its completely empty its still a good place to go for a Saturday evening stroll .
Take a history lesson and stand in the footsteps of the people who walked The Trail of Tears. The old trees surround the old historic Fort and the workers there teach you all about the 5 tribes forced from their original homes
Neat place to go to learn history
Love history.
Wow, this is a Great historical opportunity to really see how life was back then
Beautiful, historic, and wonderfully intelligent and helpful staff!
Attended the Battle of Middle Boggy school day and reenactment the next day. Very informative, people were very nice
Beautiful place to visit and learn about history. The employee at the center was extremely helpful and nice during our visit.
Great take an an interesting part of our history, I really like that the chickasaw tribe runs it and the history is a lot more honest and balanced now.
They was closed
I was there with my 2 brothers my son and a cousin from Ardmore. My great-grandfather came to Fort Washita before it closed and work for the Fort commander at the horse and mule barn. He was 15 or 16 when he arrived there. His name was Frances Roberts and is buried in the Colbert Oklahoma cemetery with my dads twin brother Burl Roberts.
Beautiful country the USA and all it stands 4
Tell the nit wit it isnt burnt down.....ONE building was burned by two little no good shmucks.....they should have been put in a labour camp for at least twenty years! The rest is quite unspoilt, quiet, peaceful, and for the most part, not too well discovered by the general public...long may it stay that way!
My daughter got married here, it was wonderful. The man in the office was very nice we enjoyed talking with him.
Visited here on the way back from Turner falls took the long way home to sight see very under rated stop was well worth the time and money.
