Spectacular views, the grounds are clean. If you need to just revive your spirits there is no better place to take a little walk if you can I personally dont walk well and so I tend to sit and just take in the beauty both Hearing the sounds of nature and seeing the sights. It definitely will not be a wasted trip.
Easy drive up and unlike many bird observation spots you can come here without climbing stairs or hiking. Porto potty available. Accessibility gets 5 stars. Beautiful hiking and great spot to see birds.
One of the best places in the nation to watch birds fly over. When the center is staffed its wonderful to get to see birds as they are caught and banded. Beautiful views as well of lake Superior and right now full fall colors!
Beautiful view all the way around, nice observation platform. There are some Trails, it was almost dark so I didnt get a chance to walk them. Nice view over the city, it is wooded and not all city lights.
My home away from home in the fall! A beautiful spot, where you can enjoy a heat view if not the awesome bird migration. Bird numbers vary from day to day, but a great place to visit anyway. Great staff too!
The view from Hawk Ridge was spectacular. There were naturalists there to answer questions, besides plenty of other bird-watchers who were happy to share their observations. In one morning, we saw many sharp-shinned hawks, some eagles, a kestrel, red-tailed hawks, crows, song birds, and turkey vultures. Bring binoculars!
View is amazing, especially at night. Love to come here to enjoy the nature. Ive never personally seen any hawks here but I know that at the right time of year they do show up.
Beautiful day, some eagles (golden and bald), and Goshawks. I always enjoy learning from the expert birders who are counting the migration.
Amazing hiking right in Duluth! The fall colors were exploding and amazing views. A must see anytime in Duluth
Bueatiful view of the city. Saw a few birds. Nice trails
Beautiful place. We followed the creek and it was so clean and relaxing. The trees at this time of year are soo vibrant. It was super foggy so we didnt get to enjoy the distant view, but im sure it was beautiful.
Discovered this by accident today and was a great find. Hiking, great views, we saw eagles and hawks, talked with one of the several staff people who count and log the birds.
One of my favorite places to hike all year round!
Its nice to have a walk with a view of the lake so close to Duluth. They could improve their signage.
Beautiful view throughout the year; one of the best place to view migrations; great activity whether alone or with family and friends.
We were visiting ang took a hike. Awesome.
Absolutely gorgeous.. take time to enjoy the view
This observtion point is a hilltop at the narrowest point of lake superior. The naturalists and ornithologists and birders that are in attendance during the migration are awesome. There are guided hikes, instructional eyes on the skies sessions or just casual bird watching, but make no mistake these people are serious about birding. This is a marvelous shared experience when the winds are right and the migration is at its peak. You can even go at night for the owl observations.
Fun year round!! one two legs of wheels.
Beautiful vantage point, peaceful, and the walking trails are fun too.
Beautiful day with beautiful views of Lake Superior.
It has a great view but the road is very dusty in the dry summer and it can get very crowded.
Very nice, but definitely would be better during migration seasons
Unfortunately it was rainy and cold while we were there. No birds.
Very nice lake view. Good hiking/biking trails.
Beautiful scenic hike and breathtaking views of the sunrise. Hawks ridge is a great place to take the family hiking along the 7 bridges road. Lots of trails heading off in all directions. Beautiful drive during all seasons.
If you have an interest in birds and love being outside, this is worth a stop. Best time to go is mid day and in September and October. We visited during MEA break in mid October. We loved the experience! The staff are friendly and helpful. They have binoculars you can borrow and teach you how to use them effectively. They are tracking the migrations so they call out birds as they fly over and helped us spot them. Very informative and eager to answer questions. My daughter enjoyed making a bird mask and learned about banding. She even got to release a hawk and they emailed me a pic on the spot. Super memorable moment for us! It’s all outside so dress for weather. Trails all around to explore so bringing hiking boots helps. Parking is just along the dirt roadway and cars drive through slowly so watch your little ones. Gorgeous view of the lake and in the fall it’s even better!
Nice area, great bridges.
Always a nice stop and look
Beautiful! We leaned so much!
Not the most beautiful place in Duluth, but a great place to be. Closes in the winter months which is a bummer but a great place to hike, run, bike or just cruise(gotta watch out for pedestrians).
Love the scenery.! Trail is well groomed and so much fun with rocks walls and alternate paths if you dont want to do the climb on rocks! Personally I love the rocks!
Gorgeous views!
Go between 10am- 2pm for the best chance of spotting all the different species of predator birds. Whenever we visit the Duluth area we make sure we always visit this place. Plus its a fantastic view of Lake Superior and downtown Duluth.
Really cool spot but heads up some of the trails get confusing as they weave in and out of each other and there are a ton of non marked trails. Having said that, its not that big of a place so you wont get too lost
I chaperoned a field trip today for my sons second grade class. We were given an AMAZING experience and learned a lot of interesting facts about the area and the wildlife! Having the opportunity to see a red tailed hawk up close and watch the release is something we will never forget. HUGE thank you to the staff and a special thank you to Mr Andy who taught us SO much and answered all of our questions. I cant WAIT to come back and do some more exploring on my own.
Best view
This is a great place to see raptors migrating south in Sept. and Oct. There is usually a volunteer birder on site to help you locate the birds andexplain what you are seeing. For best chance to see lots of raptors, go on a day when the winds are from the northwest. Best of all, you can watch for free but consider making a donation to keep the good work going!
Easy hiking with great views especially during the fall. I have heard good things from those who have camped here as well.
Beauty everywhere
Great place! No Hawks during the time we went. I met very enthusiastic people who gave me great insight about the migration season. I look forward to going next year to see thousands of migrating Hawks!!
Sighted several Bald Eagles, Broadwings, Swallows, Sharp shins.... a lot of fun
This is a place where I played in the early 60s. It has become one of the best bird watching spots in Minnesota.
Good place to see birds and hike
Beautiful view of Lake Superior.
Great place to spot raptors during migration. The people are very helpful and knowledgeable too. They’re happy to loan you binoculars if you’ve forgotten yours.
Absolutely gorgeous place
Mountain biking, hiking and the views. 7 Bridges road is very cool too.
The amount of aviary life here is plentiful
Amazing views
Great views and color. Lots of hiking.
Beautiful view, nice place to park and enjoy the view, bike, or take a walk!!
Indeed it is a very nice place. We went to the festival they have today. It was pretty nice, at first one volunteer approach us and engaged with us immediately. My son and daughter enjoyed talking with two of the first volunteers we approached and my son started to do some of the activities. He finished part of the activity booklet (the young naturalist guide) and he got his patch. He was pretty excited and he even met the person who created the activity book for young naturalists. That experience was pretty neat for him as well as the banding activity where they make a bracelet for you. But, shortly after he finished the activity book, a woman (a naturalist or volunteer) approached the public with a Sharp-shinned hawk for release and she was rather rude. Our son was excited to see the hawk and she immediately said in a snarky and rude tone to him to “step down from here to the first step.” Her tone was harsh and not one to be used with children. She asked everyone what species of bird it was and our son correctly answered sharpy which is short for Sharp-shinned hawk. She gave a short informative talk about the species which was good but then asked who wanted to help release the hawk. She barley looked around the crowd and selected a young girl who we later saw was associated with one of the volunteers working the cash register in the trailer they had set up as a gift shop. We now can see how things work as you seem to have to know someone who works or volunteers at hawk ridge to be able to partake in the releasing of a bird. I would put our review to 1 star just for this woman volunteer who held the hawk and gave the short talk. It makes me wonder if she has a bias against minorities or people who are not Caucasian as we are a mixed family and not Caucasian. I just can’t tolerate that kind of behavior. As a minority these things always cross your mind and you wonder how treatment like this might effect your children. I have been working with birds and people for over 10 years and I have seen other bird observatories similar to this interact much better with diverse groups of people. The only thing I can say is when you talk to young people like that you can leave a lasting and very negative impact.......I am giving 4 stars because the other volunteers were very inclusive and did not make us feel discriminated against but I never will go and try to be a member or get a membership. Don’t get me wrong, I love what they do but they have to make a conscious effort to work more effectively with people of diverse backgrounds or all you are doing is creating a career field (such as ornithology and conservation) with all people from the same background and you exclude people who might bring wonderful new ideas and concepts to this field. Isn’t the main goal to conserve species for generations to come?
Great hiking path with gorgeous view over Lake Superior
The hiking trails are wonderful! They offer a great view of the lake and a good workout!
Great view that is a short jaunt off the road. Come in the fall and youll see all species of hawks, eagles, owls, etc as they fly south for the winter.
The view is just great! So peaceful and a great stress reliever!
This spot is a great for over looking the lake and its also a nice place to watch the bird migration come through.
Awesome Vistas of Lake Superior and valley. Great bird watching, trails, and an berries to pick.
For a beautiful place to stop and view the lake, and at times view beautiful raptors and other birds, come here!
So beautiful. . And very interesting, learned alot.
One of the best bird watching areas in the Midwest. Great trails and views with parking. Free! and great for people of all ages.
Great for birdwatching and good views of the lake. Hiking trails are overgrown and could use some maintenance.
One of the things to do in the fall when in Duluth.
Great place to see the migration. The education staff offer great interpretation of the flight and make it easy to understand.
Great place to visit all yesr
Stunning views of Duluth and the surrounding natural areas... 10/10 all year round
The trails and views are awesome!
Beautiful views.
It was closed but I have high hopes when its open again.
Dress warm! Great, friendly, knowledgeable staff
Very cool. Super knowledgeable folks.
Great experience
Slow day for raptors. Cold wind from the south. A little rain and hail didnt help, either.
Beautifuly view!!!
Great hiking or mtn biking area
A must see when in Duluth.
Best view in Duluth. Just happened on it after going to seven bridges road. Went 10/18/2016. Aaron Brody is hot kinda deal.
