Odyssey Dance Theatres annual production of Thriller, which is currently touring in several cities in Utah, is a pioneering example of bravery, fortitude, and dedication. Every single member of the company dances with the utmost athleticism and prowess of an Olympian. Their preparation for the countless rehearsals are grueling and albeit one of the hardest warm-ups I have ever witnessed.Let me state the facts since I know I am associated to the dance company on a personal level. My comments and opinions may sound biased. But believe me, they are not. They come from a point-of-view of someone who has seen them struggle, evolve, and persevere. As an Asian American and a theater performer, I have seen their efforts to correct their faults and failures. I have seen them reach out to the Asian community. As a result, they were greeted with a spectrum of responses, from downright hate and anger to compromise and peace.Do not let politics hinder your lenses when you are trying to have a good time at the theater. See art and expression for what it is.So my review of Odyssey Dance Theatre is this: GO! GO! GO! Be entertained. You deserve it! Smile behind those masks with your children and your loved ones. Witness some of the best dancers on this Earth who are capable of an assortment of dance styles. Dancers who are so good that you wont believe that it was the same person who transitioned from a classical ballet to a full-out hip hop routine. Be transported into a world of fantasy and imagination as these performers create a stage of magic for you. With their sweat and tears. Do not cancel them out because you had a bad day. They perform for you not for the money, but because they love what they do and dance is their life. As they carry you through the season of Halloween, Christmas, and Easter, let them give you the gift of dance in the only way that they know how. Through beauty and grace. Gain an admiration for their hard work and passion.During these uncertain times of quarantine, loss, pain, grief, and confusion, let Odyssey Dance Theater give you an hour of their time to smile, laugh, and be merry once again. Fun, lively, incredibly talented dancers. I’ve enjoyed all the shows, and Thriller is a tradition now. The opening dance is phenomenal. The apparent discord melts into a tight amazing routine, then chaos, then formation. It gave me chills! Loved Jason, the witches are so beautiful. Frank and Bride is hilarious, and on and on. So excited to see more from this fantastic company!!

Odyssey Dance is very creative and inspiring for the audience. We all get to see what is possible with talented people who choreograph and dance for our enjoyment. The emotions flow from foot tapping tunes, enjoyment of Halloween and Christmas, and being together with family and friends for truly uplifting performances.

Odyssey Dance Theatre creates such amazing shows. Their Halloween show “THRILLER” is the perfect fall tradition. From zombies, to mummies and everything in between it is sure to entertain you. I highly recommend experiencing an Odyssey show!

Odyssey is such a unique gift to the dance community, especially in Utah. If you are bored with the typical dance performances you see, then ODT always has something creative and out of the box. They are an extremely talented and hard working group of dancers and artists. Lets not forget about the wonderful costumes and productions! It is not common for dance companies to be around for this long, and to be so successful. There are even some lifelong company members who always come back because of how much they love the ODT family. I danced with the company in the past and those couple seasons were some of my favorite years of my dance career. I found a family. I finally fit in within the dance community since I was always well-rounded and never stuck to just one genre of dance. Ive lived and danced professionally in NYC and other cities, and there is nothing like ODT. If you are not a dancer, then you will not understand that the themes or stories are part of the theatrical part of the shows/company. Thrillers dance with the Lost Boys and girl being attacked... that is based on the original story and is a clear depiction. There is no underlying evil intension - just art - just expression - just storytelling, something ODT is best known for! The director is one of the most hard working directors I have worked with and puts everything into the shows and the dancers. So before you post a rude comment about a show, take a second and think about how difficult it is to even get a show started or how difficult it is to make things different, instead of going with the norm when it comes to storylines and character choices. Odyssey was great when I was there and through watching/hearing from current dancers, it appears they continue to provide opportunities for performers and continue to put on entertaining shows.

My husband and I left thriller halfway through. It’s not what you expect from a dance company. Too many odd mini stories and no consistent theme from one dance to another. I thought it would be Halloween based, scary/mythical, but nope, there were random acrobatic acts in the middle of one creepy act to another. Wasn’t my favorite. Won’t go again. Wasted our money.

I dont normally write reviews, however, my experience with this company, (specifically Annie) was HORRIBLE. She was so rude and wasnt willing to work with me or make things right. I am disappointed in their customer service and how they treat people. I will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Thriller has been a huge part of my life growing up. Each year the show the show changes a little and continues to keep me on my toes. The dancers are extremely talented and so much fun to watch. Thriller is funny, creative, scary and everything you need for your Halloween season. If you love October I really recommend making Odyssey Dance Theaters “Thriller” apart of your fall traditions!

Just watched Odysseys Thriller show and it was awesome and a fun experience! I feel like they do an awesome job of getting us all in the spirit of Halloween. The dancing is also spectacular. Ill definitely be coming back next year! I think they have other shows too so I will have to go see those too.

Saw Thriller at Tuacahn. IMO, show needs an update. Pretty spendy for same show.

Always well organized in every show Ive seen. I saw thriller last night and was once again amazed by the performance and overall production. Amazing work!

Ok, seriously this dance troupe is freaking amazing! I saw Thriller today and I was blown away! Not only are they seriously talented but they act as well! They know so many different types of dancing and they were great at all of them! I cannot rave enough. You need to see them now!

First I see ugly and insulting behavior of my cultural heritage by white performers. Then Odyssey Dance Theater responded to backlash of their racial insensitivity by saying community members overreacted. They did not apologize, nor even own up to, their actions. I am tired of seeing this behavior and the half baked apologies. They are perpetuating stereotypes and being closed minded to suggestions of cultural progress in their productions. Using “tradition” as an excuse for continuing racial stereotypes and yellow face is sickening. I refuse to support a dance company that believes they are in the right when, in reality, they are on the wrong side of history. I encourage others to do the same. Support organizations that lift up our communities of color instead of ODT.

Amazing as always! I have seen Thriller 3 times and I am always impressed!

Parking is horrible!! When dropping of my daughter, the regular traffic lanes around the building were blocked by people picking up and dropping off their kids. I almost got hit by someone turning onto the road because of it. I eventually had to park two blocks away because youre not allowed to park on the street anywhere close. Its a nightmare! They need to stagger when the previous classes get out and when the next classes start so 80 cars arent trying to squeeze into their ridiculously tiny parking area at once.

What the hell. I watched the nut cracker and I didn’t understand a single thing. Needless remixes that are so far from their originals you can’t tell what they are. Sound levels were so bad during the angry birds skit, also, why is angry birds in the nut cracker? Why are the main characters parents drunk and gesturing extremely leud? Why does the main character screech the entire show? The Arabians have a slight rape undertone. Another odyssey production, Thiller, has a similar scene where shirtless vampires attack a woman under a bridge, but it’s embelished with sexual innuendos. Dancing was ok, but the production and ideas surrounding the shows are very bad and cliche
