Great escape from the norm.

This is one of the few places where the US Army built a camp specifically to resupply the Apache scouts that were used to track down their own people in the Apache wars. An interesting Battle of Rocky Mesa happened here, where somehow over 30 soldiers got the medal of valor for a lil skirmish against the Apaches. Wyatt Earp is said to have been a process server & been out to Camp Rucker several times for his job. He had also gathered a few stolen horses from here and taken them back to Tombstone. The tragic story of how camp supply was renamed to Camp Rucker shouldnt be forgotten either. Lt John Rucker giving his life to try save his Comrade in Arms Lt Austin Henely crossing a swollen wash, when a flashflood from a July monsoon swept thru as they were having some beers at a traders store close by. These two soldiers were in charge of the Apache scouts, some of the fiercest warriors of all time. The Apaches & young Lt’s learned to trust & respect each other & were unmatched in guerrilla warfare. They lived up to General Crook’s belief that it takes an Apache to catch an Apache, A lot of great history happened in se Az during this time.
