Very happy 1st day back since march!!! SUPER CLEAN and lower rates on memberships ....Home sweet home.
Clean, Light, Always Friendly. Child-care is super helpful. Our go-to on a rainy day with kids, and my own downtown morning retreat. Thank you Boll Y.
I have reported the organization to the Consumer Finanical Protection Bureau. I paid for a one month member, and was put on auto-pay without my knowledge, or consent. When I went into my account I was unable to switch it off. I checked the FAQ, and the entire website. There is no information about how to cancel, or remove auto pay. This is illegal according to the Federal Trade Commission. What a shame for them.
Worked there for a few months in child watch. Didnt get paid for my first two days because the director J. Castleberry says she wasnt able to put it in on time. Dig that.Love the kids but my boss mustve just qualified because you can tell she doesnt know what shes doing. I on numerous occasions was to work the child center afterwards. Center is ran like a mad house. I wish i could give it no stars. I dont have any credential or cpr/first aide but was assigned to watch up to 4 infants or more. Teachers having altercations in the classroom with infants and also a parent in the classroom. Smh. Both teachers shouldve been fired. Not enough food to feed all. Seen a teacher often twerking in a class full of 1-2 year olds. I wouldnt recommend my pet there. Some gets spanked. A infant head hit the floor and staff lied about what happened to the parent. A coworker assumed the infant could seat up with no help. Coworker has no past experience with infants. Some teachers bring there own preteens- teenagers to help out in the center. Smh. Question yourself: do those cameras really work? Would you want your child there? The director of Jeanine Castleberry just cover things up, talk to the parents and not tell them everything make it sound not so bad or she directs one of the of the teachers to do that. Casselberrys assistant would do a better job than she does, Miss Johnson.Sleeping teachers. Always out of ratio. I was only supposed to watch classrooms when teacher wants to go on lunch break. But teachers calling off, walking off, and quitting with no notice... Certified teachers being offered 9.70 hour smdhThe director is informed of all incidences. Plus its cameras in every room. Not sure if they work. But i doubt it because too much be going on. I see why YMCA runs threw directors. I was fired. Was sad and glad at the same time. I will miss my kids from child watch. Especially Nico Westin Natalie Isaac and Arie. I very much enjoyed creating Arts and Crafts with them. I also was told Child Watch has never been so much fun. That means a lot to me.
Literally every worker there has been helpful, kind, and goes above and beyond in answering any question. I lived in the south for a few years, and one thing that Southerners love is that they have that restaurant where everyone is super polite. I can guarantee that this YMCA has workers that are more polite than the best restaurant youve ever been to.
The great classes offered are by far my favorite thing about the gym.Fun and motivating instructors. Most staff are friendly and welcoming.Located in the heart of downtown.Offers programs for kids in the community and child care for parents who want time to workout. However, there is no parking and you will inevitably get a ticket (or several) if you are a member if you drive. The hours are very limited on the weekends.I find the price high for what is offered and they aren’t a part of the global network of YMCAs so if you travel you can’t use any other Y, which doesn’t make sense with the price being so high.If they invested in a sauna and steam room, it would be a major improvement. All and all because of the classes and sweet staff it is my daily happy place!
Always up to par . Friendly staff and attendant always disinfects the equipment
If you are looking for a place for the whole family to spend time enjoying each others company while pursuing a healthy way of life this may be the place to do that. My family and I have found this place to be run by all professional staff in evercompletelyt of its operation. The building is always SHIP SHAPE, or clean. They offer so many resources you have to go to their website because I do not want to type them all and could not if I tried, lol. But I believe it is worth the cost for singles or family. The latest weight machines treadmills and ellipticals stair steppers free weights a completely modern wellness center. Two or three pools. A CHILD WATCH, where parents may drop off the children for fun, enjoyment and safety while they themselves utilize the Ys resources for fun or exercise. Check it out you will not be sorry. Peace.
My second home
I really enjoy the Boll YMCA its clean, everyone is friendly and the trainers are very helpful. My one problem is the parking. I do have the parking app of my phone 2 hours for $2.15. I was wondering why there is not a parking lot for the YMCA since our tags are used to get in why cant we us it also to get in the parking lot. This would get more people to work out and less time circulating the block for a parking space.
I called to cancel my membership a year ago and now found out Ive been being charged $56 on a monthly basis. I called to see what the mistake was and was treated poorly by management and was instructed I needed to cancel in person. That was not brought to my attention 12+ months ago when I cancelled or thought I did over the phone. Beyond disappointed and furious about the lack of remorse and understanding. I still have to go in to cancel and now Im out $672 for a service I never received the benefits for.
Decent YMCA with a classic weight/treadmill area, basketball/racquetball court, workout studios, and a daycare. The classes have great times during the day and the instructors are awesome. Monthly membership prices are good for the value
Great facility! There are plenty of options for anyone at all fitness levels looking to get in a workout or class. Staff are helpful and welcoming. Always familiar and friendly faces. A greatly diverse and all-inclusive membership.
I joined the Boll Family YMCA in December of 2015 and I am very glad that I did. I have joined several gyms over the course of 3-4 years, with a conscious effort to keep cost down. However, because of this, something was always lacking from each gym. Some didnt have classes, others didnt keep their equipment clean and up to date, etc etc. After receiving a mailer from the Detroit YMCA regarding a free months membership if I joined today, I decided to take a tour. I was impressed. The facility is very large and very clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the offerings are extensive. I do not have kids so I cannot comment on the programs, but the YMCA has everything I need to achieve my health goals: a great weight room, group classes, a track, and a gymnasium. The only negative comment I have about this particular YMCA is some inconsistencies with their group glasses. There have been a handful of times where I have shown up for a class that was on their online schedule, but an instructor either wasnt there or showed up late. This is particularly frustrating for me when I show up for a morning class as I am on a tight schedule for work. I HIGHLY recommend taking classes with their instructors Rachel and Cheryl. They are great.
Great facility & equally fantastic staff! Just wish they were open longer on the weekends
The staff in the welcome center are knowledgeable, professional and courteous. The lifeguards are alert and very watchful. The lifeguards deserve a raise too. The YMCA is clean, spacious and fun.
I sent my child to their child care facility for three months. At first I was quite happy. All the teachers seemed great and the kids did a lot of activities. I was especially excited that they went to the library every week. Until one day I walked over there to find out that they go over to the library to watch videos. I noticed the care providers would yell across the room to the children, instead getting up and talking to them on their level. The last straw was when it came time to sign a new contract, they increased my automatic debits by $80 without informing first. When I told them this would not work for my family, they took the money anyway. Upon asking for a refund, I was told it would take 2-4 weeks to get back over $400. Im not quite sure WHY it only took them 1 day to take the money, but it takes at least 14 to return it. Upon trying to contact the executive director, I was repeatedly ignored. I would not send my child to their facilities for child care. Theyre more about business and their bottom line than the true care and nurturing of children.
Love the group classes and the instructors are so fun!
Excellent equipment, always clean and very friendly and helpful staff.
I Havent been too pleased with my experience here. I called on May 3rd, the time was around 2:30 pm to 3 pm. The front desk guy was rude, short, and when I said thank you, he said uh huh. If your inquiring about a service that your paying for, please dont act like Im bothering you when Im the customer. No one at the desk returns messages and half the time they never have a clue about anything. The professionalism with some staff is mediocre for other reasons I prefer not to get into. Im just not too pleased.
This is a nice facility to workout and I really enjoy their fitness classes too.The gym has a nice view of Downtown Detroit and the facility is clean. My only complain is that sometimes is hard to find parking especially if there is a big event going on in Downtown.
The pools are usually a yellowish color due to the huge amount of pee content. The Branch Operations Director, Tom Bender, decided that it was fair to cancel my ymca membership, but only after collecting dues for one more additional month after electing to cancel the account. He cited that there is a policy that required a member to come in person to cancel the account but he somehow was able to cancel my account without me coming in person. It happened 34 days after originally requesting for it to be canceled. It seems very strange that his procedure is only important to follow before he receives an additional months pay. Otherwise, the account would still be open now.
Had a screening for my film there, the Boll Theater was amazing and Seth was very helpful and kind! Definitely will be back!
Been coming here for a bit. good location, amenities, nice atmosphere, and very well kept locker rooms. the multiple levels are a bit weird(4 floors) but are accommodated well with larger elevators for those unable to use stairs easily.
Great facility, friendly staff, good atmosphere! I just wish there was a sauna and or steam room for the overall work out experience. 5 stars regardless
This is a great clean facility, with a good and helpful staff.
Offers lots of fitness classes that are included with your membership. Extremely family friendly with lots of options for children. My family loves it!!
This has been a great place to enjoy with my whole family Ill be back this week. I miss it
My kids absolutely love Boll YMCA. I was amazing at how quickly my boys learned to swim in their first lessons there.
Great equipment in weight room. The staff is the best. The weight room has a killer view of Tigers Stadium. Best gym in Michigan!
Love, love, love this facility.
Great place but the parking situation is poor.Should be a private lot
I registered my daughter for a program online. The program ended up being cancelled and I was told to expect my refund within 3-5 days. Never happened! Called several times to find out why and was always put through to an answering service to leave a message. Left several messages and never once did I received a call back. Finally, two weeks later, I called any and all #s I could find and actually reached a person. Found out my refund was never processed and to expect it in a few days. Flat out unacceptable!!!!! And if I could, I wouldnt even give them 1 star.
I love the Y because it has everything you need
Its an excellent facility with great staff!
Wow I wish I would had read the reviews before I came to this place. I am in tears and literally hurting on the inside. My 3 year old son woke me up this morning asking to go swimming. I work nearly every day so we hardly spend time together. I called YMCA 3 times to confirm the pull was opened to the public before I arrived at 0945am. It took two people 30 minutes to sign us in as guest. They took my money and for whatever reason wrote down my credit card information. By the time we got dressed to get in the pool my son and I were kicked out because they were having classes. As we were getting dressed he was crying because he thought he did something wrong and he kept apologising to me. I did not know how to explain to a 3 year old how you guys made a mistake. Instead I had to apoligize to him as if I did something wrong. Oh on top of that! They didnt give me my money back. She said they had to wait until Monday?? Telling from the comments.. Doesnt sound to promising. Please dont waste a special moment in this place
The kiddie swim lessons are Wonderful!! The swim coaches are Very patient and the lifeguards are Very Assertive and Productive!
Great community center w fantastic facilities for all ages.
Clean, well maintained and friendly staff. One of the more affordable options for a gym membership downtown.
It has the best no pressure atmosphere for getting back into shape. The employees as well as patrons treat you like family.
Great YMCA with good equipment, an indoor track, and a great pool. The only thing it really lacks is a better setup for free weights.
Place is always neat, Ive only used the pool here. The people here are very friendly and helpful.
Modern, clean, with friendly staff. Love the family pool, warm and relaxing.
Clean facility. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Great place I enjoy this location. The staff is awesome & they are very friendly.
Multiple terrible experiences with the front desk girl named something with a B I think Brittany.... an utter disgrace to customer service for the Y. Feel sorry for her and the leadership....she should fold towels and clean bathrooms anything to keep her away from the first point of contact
Very new and clean facility. This is by far better than the locations in Oakland county.
Great location, perfect open time for the weekdays as well
Nice facility. A little expensive though.
Ive been going there basically since they built it, and basically I get what I need out of my membership. #happycustomer
I gave my 30 day notice almost three weeks ago and they still are forcing me to pay for another month even though I have moved. Apparently it takes seven weeks to get cancelled. I plan on putting this all over social media. Bad management
Greedy and ignorant. Everyone has to live in the same home to get memberships together. Thats obsurd! Very greedy and shallow of a community center
Beware of the Childcare CenterPlace is a joke seriously if you put your child here Make surprise visits oftenI worked here trust me its shady at its best
Nice place
Put your weights away!
First Class in every way.
No safety. Locker break-ins are common. Non cooperative staff.
Nice gym!
Staff friendly and family friendly
Great community feeling.
Parking not good
Helping to stay active!!
Love this place
