If youre visiting detroit, i suggest taking a walk around these fields of art installations. i do recommend visiting at least twice, once to grasp the area, and the second time to visualize more details :)
WowExcitingUnbelievableHistory in the makingBeautifulBreathtaking
Myself, son and granddaughter visited the Heidelberg Project today, it was an awesome experience. Myself being a long-term admirer and supporter of Tyree Guytons was appreciative that he took the time to share life nuggets with my 9 year old son and answer his questions regarding the project. It takes a lot to impress my 9 year old and he was on cloud nine and has already scheduled our next visit. He is very excited and saw the value in the project. I would recommend everyone going at least once in their lifetime. Its like no other social justice fueled experience.
I visit everytime Im in the area. I love to see how it grows each time.
One of my favorite places in the city. Beautiful art full of symbolism. Thank you mr guyton for your contribution to Detroit.
This project is amazing and world reknown...I had been coming here since a child and have been numerous of times but on this particular day on Nov 1 I had the chance to meet Tyree Guyton himself. It was a pleasure. Pure Art in its best form is what youll get when visiting this project that is ever so changing amd has been a city staple for over 30yrs
Cool place to see, the artist is also very welcoming and has a interesting story. If your in the area, you should see it.
This is one of Detroits most interesting outdoor places to visit. A continuously evolving installation art exhibit of found objects suggests multiple meanings from the concept of time to an editorial on our wasteful society. Is it art? Is it just piles of junk? Anyway you look at it, its a must see attraction.
Exceptional local art project. Met with the founder Tyree Guyton and toured the site. You can walk and see art on your own...lots to see. Very Nice
The Heidelberg Project is way past its prime. I understood that a foundation had been created to maintain it. Obviously, there is no such maintenance. It always looked a little junky - but, that was a bit of its appeal. It wasnt perfect. I dont believe Tyree ever wanted it to be perfect. It was outdoor urban art in the middle of an old neighborhood. It couldnt be perfect. But now its just junky looking.Maybe Im completely off base here. Maybe Tyree approves of how it looks now.Go have a look yourself. After all, art is in the eye of the beholder.
If youre looking for an interesting and eclectic place to visit in Detroit, this is it. Very cool and unique place to see that you definitely wont forget. The artist lives on this street and is very friendly. A Detroit must-see!
I reached out to help plan an elopement/intimate wedding for an amazing couple. Communication was seamless and all of our questions were answered swiftly and with care. We met Erin the Administrative Assistant the right before go time and it was a pure pleasure. We had so much fun and practiced all the safety measurements currently required during COVID-19. I would highly recommend The Heidelberg Project for a truly unique event experience.
Probably one of the coolest art installations you will ever be able to visit / interact with hands down or up or to 10 and 2, I mean there are so many clock hands everywhere literally you can put your hands wherever you want.I Detroit
What time is it? It’s your time. Tyree Guton’s art installation has taken over an entire city block ... the focus is on time - all clocks are different times. Because it’s your time.2+2= 8 is another reoccurring theme. Because you can create your own reality in the installationThe project is Tyree’s labor of love but it’s all about YOU. Whether a native to the D or just visiting - get of the beaten path and come explore yourself
Tyree is a true gentleman and visionary.
Really neat experience took the family got to explore around a little bit had a great time will definitely go again
Dhring my first and only visit I was screamed at loudly in front of a very large group of people for asking artist if I could take a picture. Would have explored more but my group didnt feel it was a safe environment for me as I have C-PTSD so we proceeded to leave.
I had not visited since my childhood. Wonderful trip down memory lane ️
As always an enlightning, and amazing experience, god bless you Mr guyton andcall your neighbors.. much love stay safe and I cant wait to see what you got coming up for it. Sincerly eric and Jayden ensign aka yellow house trespassers god bless, stay safe
Remember going here when I was younger with my mother. Took my daughter today and was thrilled that the art/project grew. This experience was better than I remembered and I am glad I had the opportunity to share this experience with my daughter.
One of my favorite places in detroit!
You just never know who you will see there
I was very impressed with this place. The whole street is full of artwork made of interesting artifacts and very colorful. Youll see people coming at all times. Definitely a must visit place in Detroit.
This seems like a great way for a neighborhood to reclaim its junk and manufacture it into art. The woman at the Yellow House is quite fun to talk to and the stuff is certainly interesting to look at. We spent a total of, maybe, 30 minutes here.
Super cool “outsider”/community art project. Not sure why it’s referred to as outsider because it’s created from within the community! Ironic! Impromptu visit because the Motown museum was closed. Super creative! Check out the dog house & read about the significance of the clocks. Sooo much to see!!
After all these years, Tyree is still steady at work as curator and caretaker of this experience. It was great to see him on site wishing happy holidays to all the attendees on a weekend afternoon. Fun for a jaunt, enough substance for a deep dive if you have the time and interest.
Absolutely loved visiting. Met Mr. Guyton himself. Something so peaceful about the Heidelberg Project.
Im sorry but it looks like garbage out on the street. Didnt like it. If you are short in time you can easily skip this place.
Quite the experience! A must see if youre in Detroit. Wonderful energy and wonderful artwork.
My children and I were able to meet the artist. He was very engaging and had such interesting stories to share
You discover something that you missed every time you visit, such a wonderful exhibit
Super weird place but on the same hand very artistic and beautiful. If youre in Detroit its a place you must visit.
A very cool community art project.
Ive been coming to visit the Heidelberg Project for years.. I love it. Ive seen things come, and sadly, things leave tragically. I always bring out of state friends to visit... Love it with all my heart. Thank you Mr Guyton for creating something so magical in our beloved Detroit.
This area is incredible, the world is a better place because of places like this. We got to talk with Tyree and learn about his project and have an interesting philosophical discussion about what time it was. A must-see if you are anywhere on Earth.
Probably Detroits coolest attraction
Nice it appeared to be about time and rare art. I will definitely have to read up on this!
Great community art project in a small and neglected part of Detroit. Im not an art major, so I dont get all of the art. I probably wouldnt check it out at night by myself. If anything, it was nice to see something being made out of the space and used in a way that allows an artistic outlet for the people that live in the area. I hope more areas in the outskirts of Detroit follow suit. Detroit can use more beauty and less destruction.
The outdoor exhibits are definitely worth seeing if youre in town. Its quite strange and (for someone like me) a little uncomfortable to be told that this accumulation of stuff in a certain order is art.I listened in on a conversation where Tyree said 2+2=8. He then said he made that up, just like he made all the rest of this stuff up. Which is not to say that its any less impressive, but I would encourage anyone to come here with an open mind. And during the day, preferably with other people. It still is a sketchy part of town - and thats not made up.
Hidden outdoor art project. A hidden gem in Detroit. Perfect for a drive-by and admiring the art and symbolism. I like the fence that has shoes attached to it.
Really cool place to see. Some of the exhibits are almost a little creepy but it is a good way to make bad situation into something that helps lift up a struggling area
Some stuff is pretty cool, but if you review the photos, you can see a couple of areas are just plain garbage.
It’s quite unique, not a normal place you can find often. interesting history and meaning behind the project, but I found it’s easily get lost in understanding some of the objectives
What an incredible visit. This is one of my favorite things Ive seen in detroit. An absolute must visit. A very amazing story and history, and its just amazing to walk around to see.
Interesting, somewhat eerie, mind boggling, really cool place. Definitely worth a visit, you have never seen anything like this, 100% sure.
Very cool place and the care taker was a cool dude..
Absolutely amazing! Can’t believe I waited this long to visit. One of a kind!
A bizarre but yet interesting art display of garbage located on Heidelberg St in Detroit. It is a funded project which brings subjective art to the neighborhood. Art is definitely in the eye of the beholder here.
Literally one of the most amazing places to visit in Detroit.
Its interesting, but just a tad overwhelming
It was a rainy day but nice to see the Heidlberg project again. Quite a few people were walking around checking out the area. Glad to see that the fires didnt hinder the project from moving forward. Loved seeing all of the interesting goodies in the yards.
Walked the grounds and contemplated the displays. It’s nice to have the opportunity to walk amongst them in a neighborhood.
They taught me that life without art is stupid.
Beautiful and we got to meet the artist who was soo kind and sweet.
Definate work in progress.
The work of a genius artist who plays by his own rules
An amazing project and work of art. Highly recommended!
Area is safe to walk around. Its like nothing i have seen before, art everywhere and you get lost trying to understand the meaning of all this.
Very cool and eclectic art work. Stumbled upon it by accident while driving to another location and ended up staying spending an hour walking around and looking at the artwork on a rainy day. Has a public port-a-potty even which was very thoughtful.
Omg like and organized junkyard done in an artist fashion
The Heidelberg Project is free to anyone who wants to check it out. They do have a donation center and offer tours. The project is interesting and the theme of time runs throughout the exhibit.
Interesting place. Some like modern art. Some of it is just trash.
What an amazing art installation that I visit everything I go to Detroit. I can easily spend hours looking at everything. Theres some powerful messages through this art installation.
Amazing place with so much to look at! Youll feel safe while visiting due to all the surveillance cameras monitoring the area. Always ppl around and a booth for info if needed and its free!!
Such a wonderful day. Tyree and I sat down and visited to for awhile. We spoke about everything. Afterwards I was honored enough to watch him speak to a group of youth doing a tour. Definitely an inspiration on the views of life. We need more disciples out leading as Tyree does and has been. If youre in town go down and visit.
Easy to find. Must see. Park on the street and walk along the street. Many art installations!
Took a friend to Heidelberg that had never been there. Ive been a few times and its always interesting, mostly watching the people there. People go there as a destination from all over. Its just an interesting place of you really understand it.
What a surprise. I accidentally came upon this place. Quite interesting, so much to see, view, contemplate, and ponder. What a magnificent find. I love art in the unusual form.
My favorite place to show out-of-towners.
Unique and interesting place to visit! Spans most of the street. Read the story behind the project.
This is a very cool outside art project in the D. I recommend that you check it out!
Its a beautiful site, the original artists live nearby and are often seen out and about, very approachable. The art is more than worth the trip.
Interesting. Very interesting. A project/idea that started in 1986, that the community still adds new pieces to.
Its a beautiful surreal experience with a great back story. Must see if youre in Detroit!
Public art covering a city block. Impressive and almost too much to take in, but give it a try anyway.
A True Detroit Gem.I can remember visiting the Heidelberg Project when I was a kid. Its just as brilliant and captivating as it was the very first time I saw it. My Mom brought my siblings and me decades ago. Now I can bring my children. Its both nostalgic, and a new experience at the same time.I love it, and its an undeniable part of Detroits culture and history. If youre local, get here. If not, add it to your bucket list, and still... Get here! You wont regret it.Semi-Pro Tip: During your visit, youll be excited and want to take lots of pics. Photographing the art is welcome, but be careful not to take pics of the neighbors and their homes. Its frowned upon... Plus not respecting other peoples privacy is just undope. So snap away! But be considerate.
I love the Heidelberg Project. This is a great place to wander around and feel inspired by what can be reimagined. We had a very cool opportunity to create an outdoor medical office with the permission of Tyree Guyton back in 2010 and it’s still standing today. There are no admission fees and there is plenty of free street parking. You can donate to The Heidelberg Project online if you feel so inclined.
Interesting concept around reusing and recycling of items to create art, while it feels slightly derelict it only takes a bit of imagination to view some of the artwork before it was exposed to the elements. Its free but if you have some spare change you can donate to the foundation.
Unexpected, and unique collection of household items displayed in vacant lots in the middle of the city.
Very introspective, and an entirely unique apocalyptic feel to it. Spend a while and roam around - theres a message waiting for everyone.
Its changed a little over the years but still an interesting adventure. Its nice to see people go there and walk around in Detroit to see.
Very interesting. So many things to take in.
One of the best spots to bring visiting friends to in the city. Its always changing, so return to see how it grows and moves across time. Also, Tyree, the artist behind the project, is an incredible person, so if you get to talk with him enjoy the experience!
Inspiring, enrichening experience. Local artist and community led. A must for any visitor to Detroit!
A random work of art. A must stop if youre visiting the motor city..
What an experience to walk around here! I visited this block last year and more has been added since then, there’s also just so much to see one trip isn’t enough. Will definitely be back to see what else catches my eyes next time!
Great place to time ...cost nothing good place to take your chickiepoo
Nice art project
My sister knew all about this place as she had visited it before so I wasnt surprised she wanted to enlighten us. We took pictures and learned about the Heidelberg Project and how it got the name from Heidelberg Germany. Mr. Guyton told us it was a nice place to visit. He gave us a first hand account of his vision. Awesome guy.
A great and big art project that brings people together. What a great effort!
Breathtaking work! Worth an hour of exploring.Respect the area by not parking in front of homes & staying off residents grass.
Living art in Detroit - cool to see on my first time here!
The heidleburg project is one of my absolute favorite places. A beautiful art piece made from nothing but trash people throw away. It is amazing and a site too see. I would definitely recommend it too anyone who loves art, free things, cool vibes and a good time!
I loved seeing this, I felt safe and I was alone and a woman. Just go during the day and walk around to see it all. So interesting how this project turned desolation into a work of art.
Its the ONLY outdoor museum where you will find the curator, owner, and overall champion for the effort...weed wacking the property. All about you are blessings of our human conditions, the plight of poverty, and the current state of our society as you may or may not know it depending on your standing in society. My personal favorite was the motorcycle with crutches flying out of the exhaust. Reminded me of my love of motorcycles...and why me and my brother never made it past mini bikes. The wake up sign was pretty popular. Nuf said. Anywho, make your way down to the heart of Detroit (during daytime hours) and let your mind wonder through this urban masterpiece. You may even get lucky enough to have a brief conversation with Tyree Guyton...that champion I was talking about earlier. Get fed.
Always something new and interesting to look at
I would recommend that anyone in the area comes and sees this, it is well worth your time. Thought provoking and truly a work of art. Everytime you visit youll see something different.
