The best course I’ve played in the state. This is golf nirvana for golf purists. The layout is naturalistic, challenging, and beautiful. Every hole is unique and yet thematically consistent; meandering, sloping fairways demanding precision over distance off the tee, usually into raised fortress greens requiring approaches over lakes, creeks or valleys. Angles and positioning are everything here, and like all great courses, this makes Bear Creek never play the same way twice. I’ve only been on the course once but the par 3’s stand out to me right away, they are just incredible: downhill (sometimes massively downhill) into island greens or lateral slithers of greens that demand accuracy, or a shot over a lake into a peninsula green. Speaking of the greens: you won’t find better ones anywhere. They are all multitiered greens and missing the wrong tier but landing on the green will often be worse than chipping short sided, that’s how tough they are to putt. Running a 9 when I played but I’m told they run around 12-13 in the summer (God help me). Many, many putts from 20 feet away on the wrong tier are nearly impossible to stop rolling close to the pin, resulting in a lot of three putts. The tiers and slopes on these greens coming off the nearby mountains means gravity dictates as much of the putt as the read, if not more. Seriously, this course is challenging in all respects of the game and will demand every club and every shot you have in your arsenal. Maintenance is superb, the greens and tee boxes are impeccably maintained. I met the membership director Rich Goins for a tour of the facilities and the course, playing about 6-7 holes, and he was incredibly knowledgeable of the course (my goodness does he know these greens) and so friendly and welcoming. He introduced me to the staff and everyone was warm and friendly. As we toured the course, I got to meet and play along/through a few groups of members, who were equally friendly. The vibe on the course was complete happiness, it seemed every member playing loved this course as much as I know I will too after joining. Practice facilities are awesome, I’m told the food is too but I only had a stellar chicken salad sandwich so far. The views are spectacular, the course is quiet and peaceful. The best natural layout I’ve ever seen too, I was shocked to learn how little earth was moved to produce such an amazing links. This might be the most challenging golf course in Colorado (or anywhere) but it plays fair, rewarding great shots yet mercilessly punishing the long hitters who struggle with accuracy. This is a shot makers paradise. ProV1’s on the driving range — is there anything better than this place?
A nice course in a great fine location, but absolutely appalling that its mens only in this day and age. Im trying to imagine if people would still be ok with the course if it was whites only or discriminated based on some other genetic characteristic. Moreover, the course staff are not courteous to the rest of the Bear Creek Community.
Couldn’t go because I’m a woman. Pretty cool in 2020...
Terrible staff. Course is good.
Beautiful course. Nice pros and pro shop.
Great place, tough course
My boss took me great spot, fun course !!!
Beautiful course, very difficult with lots of hidden pin locations. Private members only. With a few more grounds staff, it could easily be a 5*
Worth the look if you have the time to play golf absolutely great food at the club house and the pro shop is first class
Beautiful. Humble and pleasing and very welcoming to me, a guest, of a member they all knew by name. Very relaxing and calm setting. The course is pretty well immaculate. Members obviously value their golf, and their greenkeeper(s)! Pro shop was stocked with all great stuff, reasonably priced.
Was not here as this is a men only golf course. That is too bad.
Won a foursome at a Brents Place tournament and the staff was over the top friendly!
Tough golf course awesome views and was in great shape, but not open to the public
The floors in their kitchen bathroom look fantastic
Just went to a wedding reception there.
